Numerous "posters" have taken the habit of commenting without showing their signature.
I find this very disturbing as you do not know what they are referring to.
May I please suggest you put everywhere a STICKY reminder?
Keep up your b..... good site, Have a nice day and God Bless.
Mmmmm
Yes! it must be a rule... instead nobody read the rules..... but when we have time to attend those who has problems or opinions, we dont have enough info... maybe if they has it in their signatures, we have less posts unnecesary so it would be great that in login claim for fill these info with obligatory (*), before gain the access to the forum threads... what would you say?
and of course a request for the one who dont have and is new... thanks for read mods.
wait what are you talking about?
do you mean people are not showing their signatures (those little things at the the bottom of each post)? I suppose not showing it could be a problem if they reference it, but is that what you are talking about?
YES
Mr Mikechannon: (Or do I need to say: sorry SR!! but...I think...)
I like you to see some day the upgrade forum for HTC Wizard its full of people that bricks their wizards... why... cause he dont understands what he got on his hands...
For wizard is very important to know wich model to get the proper ROM if dont knows nothing about it...
This info is very usefull not comfort for the ones who answer questions and provides help or support... Never... its a pleasure can helps but then they starts to blame about this kind of thing... I know it doesnt matter but its so sad to read it.
Just read a little that has problems with dead or bricked wizards.

And so much more...
I know this is a hughe site, or tell us where to post to be able to ask for change the login info and make the user insert his info corectly.
Maybe I imagine this like an utopy but could be amazing have this kind of info by default.
Thanks just for read us GENERAL!!!!!
i see...
the thing is, alot of the problems in some of the other forums are not necessarily rom related, and rom questions could probably be better answered posting in the rom's thread.
despite what some may think, most problems are universal regardless of rom, at least in my experience.

I see your point, but you can't make certain info mandatory for users. Most of the time when users post a "problem with device" type thread, they usually mention which it is. For the Wizard users that don't specify which model, it doesn't mean much except they never knew there were differences from the beginning most likely. Just point out the differences and most will catch on.
Nice try...
Already tried so... i think that we need to make a sticky likely thread saying!!!!
Y'ALL!!! Put your info device on your Signature before post!!!!
Maybe they can read it with hughe words.
I'm very sorry but as good a practice as it is we cannot enforce people to do so, adding a sticky would clutter most forums as most of the time there are already multiple stickies there.
The best you can do is suggest to people to put in their signature or post whenever they feel it's relevant.

The Mods have to sticky your thread.
Geez, how nit-picky can you get??
I can understand the frustration of people who ask without searching or reading first. I've completely customized first my mogul, then my diamond.... and by spending far too many hours searching & reading (according to my husband.....)
I can also understand the frustration of newbies poking around in the dev areas.
But this is over the top.
Out of all those hours spent reading & searching, I've never seen a requirement to post a sig. Wouldn't apply to me anyway.... I don't flash ROMs. Personally, I don't pay attention to who is using what rom in their sig. I only pay attention to what links are there.
BTW, I never paid attention to it before, but it appears that the admin & mods don't do it either. So why the beef?

I'm not sure Flar was giving permission, I think she was just saying that the best way to pass info to majority of the users is through stickies, but it may not be possible due to forums already being cluttered.
The theory is sound to add info to your sig but as with so many others in this forum I have a pile of previous devices and if I listed them all in my sig with all the relevent data, my sig would be longer than the message!
Plus, it would need changing every time I tried a ROM or added a supplier update/patch, I wonder how many have reflashed a ROM and not remembered to change their sig??
Also for the data to have some meaning you would need to include all software installed (interaction problems) and ever reg edit/Tweak they have added/removed. The list could be endless!
Its much easier for members just to try and remember to add the details in the message body when asking about problems with their device.
HTC Universal
HTC Startrek
HTC Wizard
HTC Hermes
HTC TytynII
HTC Touch Pro
HTC Shift
And still have them all...
I think the problem here is people not knowing how to ask for help. "Won't let me flash a ROM" and "Active Sync doesn't work" do not explain what the issue is. As a follower of Raymond Chen's blog and his war on people to ask the correct questions when requesting email support, there are a few things that should be mentioned in every request for help:
Specify the problem: What is the error, full details, error codes, message dialogs, etc. Or if there is no error, what did you expect to happen, why is something not working as intended.
What did you do: What steps have you followed to get to the problem (how to re-created it). And what steps have you taken to rectify the issue your self.
What is your environment: What phone are you using, what version of the software are you using, ROM version, radio / SPL / IPL, Windows version. Some of these are not applicable, but anything relevant should be listed. List other software you think could be contra-indicating.
This list is by no means exhaustive and of course, the standard Forum Rules on searching, duplicate posting, etc. should be followed. With this information, most people should have a clear idea of the issue and can offer the best help they can without having a long dicussion on all of the above points.
I take my hat off to the members that can answer questions without this information, they have amazing guess work.
Thanks
Dave
YES!!!
Everyone has good ideas, so forgive me for missunderstood the Flars answer... do what ever to help people efficiently.
Its our dont pay job.
But Im proud of it... yes getting all the info for you devices will be hard to put in 500 characters so... ask everytime.
i will edit the thread about the permission.
It seems to be getting a mess in the dev. section lately.
Put your idea on this thread and we'll look into it.
1. create sticky for official (samsung) firmware as easy downloads
2. create sticky for some basic guides
3. create sticky with pointers to roms for the in-house cooks (rotohammer etc.)
this is a start.
MOD EDIT: BEFORE POSTING ANY THREAD IN THE DEVELOPMENT SECTION, PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING:
If you have developed a ROM, or are working with others to do so, the development forum is somewhere to discuss and share ideas, post useful feedback and logs or crash dumps, and to discuss a common goal developers are trying to achieve.
It is NOT the place to post your question because it gets higher traffic, or because more experienced users frequent it. Doing this just annoys those who are working on the device, and drives them away. Developers don't want to wade through 20 threads of "Help me urgently" to find their threads for porting and fixing camera issues etc. Similarly, if a thread is designated as discussion for developers say, porting a camera fix, please do not post in there asking "When will it be ready?", "Can I flash this yet?" etc. This is both completely disrespectful to those working on the project (you evidently haven't read the important posts in the thread), and also is making it harder for developers to find comments from other developers or testers when required.
Similarly, don't make loads of "Thanks for your work here" posts in an active development thread. It's just as annoying to developers as asking when something will be ready. If a ROM is complete, then go ahead and thank the developer if you wish, but don't go into threads for devs only, and interrupt it to post "thanks". It's basically spamming, and is treated as such.
If you are posting in development, you should have read every sticky and notice there, and should be actively developing or helping in the development of something. Developing isn't installing a ROM, or using a tweak, it's creating a ROM or other hack or tweak. If you haven't read for several days before starting out on XDA, you are likely about to ask something already solved. I registered on XDA when I first wanted to post, and that was to join in a discussion on something. Sure, join up and ask a question, but read the information available in General and Q&A first, as your question will have been asked before. Search is your friend here, become familiar with it.
Regarding when to post in development if you are not actually developing something, there is one occasion where it's acceptable. If you find a leak of a new ROM, which isn't already posted, and you verify it's legitimacy via either running it, or based on the source you obtained it from, then this is assisting in development, and should be posted in development. If you want to ask when a leak will be available use search first, then if not already in discussion, open a thread in general or Q&A.
If you have a problem flashing a ROM, this is NOT related to development. It's up to you to determine if it is specific to a particular ROM, and post useful information in that developer's existing thread for the ROM. If it happens on more than one ROM, and isn't a known issue (remember you should read several times more words than you post), then find out what you are doing wrong. Check guides written by others, try to repeat the problem and see if it happens every time. Something needs to be reproducible to be fixed effectively.
Once you have identified what you need help with go to the device Q&A forum (general if device lacks one), and make a clear, informative thread that explains the issue, and what you have tried doing to fix it. Did you re-download the ROM? Did you ask a friend to flash it for you, to reduce chance of user error? What steps (exactly) did you follow? What errors did you see (exact wording)? Did you double check all the steps? Did you do a wipe or hard reset?
If you make a clear, concise, yet detailed post, you will find help forthcoming, and should get the problem sorted very quickly. If someone suggests you try something, report back on what happened, did it work etc. Then, next time someone has this issue and searches, they will find this and have a verified and tested solution.
So remember... before you start a thread in development, ask yourself what you are developing. If you can't answer, then stop, step away from the post button, and think about where you are posting. Would it be better in General or Q&A, or is some more time with your best friend, search, required?

I would recommend having tags for the different models of tablets. ( [VZW] [TMO] [AT&T] [SPNT] [EURO] etc...)
Just my .02
We really need to have them separated... This is getting bad. Take a vote and and promise everyone would be on board!!
Galaxy Tab Android Development (CDMA)
Galaxy Tab Android Development (GSM)
Galaxy Tab Android Development (...)
Please!!! lol
I agree that the Tab development needs to be split amongst compatibility.
GSM/EUR
CDMA
etc.
That will make the issues with possible flashing mistakes lower and also enable people to find the best build for them.
A third vote for at least something like a top level and sub forums for GSM and CDMA. There might be things that apply to both, but it seems like real development would be at least specific to one or the other, if not down to the carrier level (and I'm not suggesting per carrier forums).
A sticky for my directory(bible). This will be updated frequently. And will be useful for all noobs and pros alike.

What we really need is a bigger community. The larger the user base, the larger the dev base. Especially in the states, it seems like no one is developing for our Tabs specifically. And from what I've found, ours are, just like the Galaxy S, different from the international version.
So do we even have a Mod ? Can they do this for us ? Its been like weeks since we asked to split it up.....
+1beeeeeeelion to split and have a CMDA and GSM and Intl section added....and then under those when people list just say [Sprint] or [VZW] in the title of the thread....

Your official mod is taking a break, just busy with life lately. I'll be taking over until he comes back.
I've forwarded this thread on to the admins, being that after being here for 2 days I can already see how bad it is. Hopefully we can get the sections split up and I can start moving posts around.
Can we please also have teh same tagging as HD2 section has, ie the date at beginning of title..
example...
[19.MAR.2011][ROM] Rom Title Rom Version [KERNEL]
is it possible to get this "stickie" out of the developers section?
it would be more helpfull to get serious content into there. also the actual official thread is sticky and dead.
a sticky should be something important or something must read. this thread is not a "must read"
sorry, constructive critics
I agree we need some reorg. PLEASE look at my sig, and follow the HD2 url,
Seems the HD2 overall section has recently had a makeover. It is much easier to navigate, and the people whe are not devs can op in on the thread.
The devs, on the other hand, have their own section, that requires you be a dev in order to get into it and exchange ideas. This keeps the riff raff from convelouting the threads.
So, can you please look it over. What ever work is needed to be done, I will offer my assistance to reorg the threads and topics.
Thanks

I just looked at HD2 section, and theres nothing new there.
They have a section for NAND dev, and for SD Dev, thats it.
There are some plans in the works for the site in general that may do what you're referring to, but nothing is done yet for any of the fora.
If they give you guys the new sections, It will take me a day or so to move everything around. And I dont know tis section as well as I'd like so it may take a little longer as I'd have to go through every thread, but it would get done.
/IF/ that happens, it should clean up the sections a lot and make it easier to find everything. If not, I'm open to suggestions.

did you change the file name of the backup?????????????????????????????????????????????????
If your using rom manager try reflashing the recovery.
browse the SD card using your computer... find the backup file that you are trying to restore... rename it to something simple without any "-" and especially no slashes "\" or "/" ... reboot back into recovery.... no restore the newly renamed backup
oh ya and post in the right section... don't use exclamation points.... and of course my favorite: I could have answered or ignored... but i will post just to tell you you are a nugtard

I was panicky, drove into oncoming traffic and almost killed 30 people because I wasn't thinking straight and able to get my **** back proper.
We go through this everytime. Posted to wrong section, broke rules and didn't read. Stickies are there for a reason. It gets old, people don't care and post anyway.
I mod alerted the post before I posted to help avoid flame wars thinking a mod would come along and move it quick, and yet here it still sits. So apparently no one else cares that Q&A gets posted here.
So, instead of fighting the problem, it's easier anymore to just 'lulz' around in these threads and wait for the next one to be posted to repeat the process.
Then you might ask "why not just help?". For one, it just encourages more of this crap. Next, I read the OP. Any help given would be a shot in the dark and not worth the time or effort. Others have 'suggested' things but without more information from the OP, who seems to have vanished, we can't help anymore than playing 20 questions.

great points. the lack of research is a detriment to us all
Ok, awesome for the thanks feature. Thanks to that.
But, if we could also get a feature on the other end of that stick, that would be really great I think. A dislike, or thumbs down on posts that are just useless to the topic, then be able to set in your USERCP, any posts with -3 or more get auto minimized (clicking a + would open the post).
It seems more now a days than back in the day, there are more 'noob's on this site than ever. And they just cant seem to read. Or care to read. Or know how to read, the english language. So, they spam DEVELOPER threads, with 'does this woK?' 'eta on xxx' 'how to install this'....when, its ALL in the OP! Constantly, do I respond back with READ THE OP! Like they should be doing. + The stickies with tons of good guides in them.
So, I know the dislike/thumbs down wouldnt resolve this problem completely. But, it would help clear a huge thread (some with 1k+ posts) down so some of us that 'arent' noobs can go in and actually see comments relating to ROM, not the installation, or partition sizes (non-rom relation).
I understand, this could be abused. I really hope it wouldnt be. But, youtube uses a similar feature, like/dislike, and still use it. I am just throwing this out there, because a great thread (HERE if curious) is being BASHED with TONS of stupid questions. And damn, its very aggravating to see people not read, and im not even the dev...
Tried not making this a rant post. Just trying to see if there is 'some' solution to this 'on-going' problem (not JUST that thread, every thread has repeat questions). And maybe if people start seeing -10 on their posts or -50, they will know they are doing something wrong. Instead of me replying, wasting space I will hit the dislike instead .
Thanks for reading.

I looked 2 pages, I guess shame on me for not looking further. But in anycase, it doesnt appear to be in the gnex threads anymore. So, just trying to get more support for them to bring it back I guess, hopefully in full scale. It would really help I think.
There was an experiment of this in the galaxy nexus forums... I believe it will now be improved based on what we found from that test
This is a serious question. I'm not trolling, flaming, or anything else you might think.
I really don't understand how to get a question(s) answered on this site. I don't care how much or how little information I give it is never answered. I will google my questions, search the forums, read and reread developer threads and even search youtube to try to find my answers. When all else fails, I post here. Never have any of my questions been answered.
I would really love some advice on this considering I'm a noob at most of this rooting stuff and I have some questions. I don't want someone to hold my hand or anything like that. I just want some helpful links or advice.
If anyone could tell me how I should word my posts so they would be answered I would be so appreciative.
Again I am not trying to be rude, I have the utmost respect for the mods and developers here. I just don't know what I am doing wrong to never get questions answered.
I'm sure you can understand how frustrating it is to come home after work and look back at a post hoping for an answer and nothing is there other than a locked thread. I don't want to be that person that annoyingly keeps reposting something over and over. I just want to learn what I am doing wrong, fix it, and hopefully help others out when I learn from my own mistakes.
Moved to About XDA.
Well the key is to post in the right section, if its a device question post in that devices sub forum so other users see it.
Its possible if your asking in a low activity sub forum then it will not get answered

Just my suggestions to get your posts answered:
1. Extensive searching before posting:
Maybe you are not the first one with this question or issue.
Search for other users posted the same or similar problem and look if they got propper answers.
2. If you can not find anybody else asked the same or similar question, then search for descriptions/explanations which might solve your issue.
Maybe the answer is already there (even without an explicit question).
3. If neither the question nor the answer can be found, then you have to find the proper place for posting your question.
Is there a forum for your device, then go to that forum.
Is there a dedicated Question & Answer (Q&A) sub forum, then go there.
Is there a thread for asking / even for new users, with many posts and the last post is from today, then go there and post your question there.
This step is very important, as you have to find a place where your post will be seen by some experienced users which know the answer.
4. Now let's check the contents of your post itself.
Please think about the xda rules (no offence, no personal attack, English, etc.).
Describe as much as possible, what might be useful for others to think about the possible cause of your issue and a good solution to fix it or to give your the right answer.
What device/model, what app(s), what firmware version (ROM, kernel, modem, etc.), what was before, what is now, what have you done, what has happened in between, etc.
Maybe not all those information is really needed to solve the issue or give your the answer, but are you sure that it is not relevant?
If you are not sure, then provide this info.
Be polite, stay as "objective" as possible ... most of the time, emotions are not needed to solve the issue
Maybe you say something like "I would appreciate any kind of suggestion, even if it does not help to solve the issue for me.", or "Thanks in advance.".
It's a kind of motivation for other users to be confident to answer your post, even if they are not absolutely sure that it really can solve your issue.
Good luck !

Notes for help seeker :
1. Make the situation SHORT and NEAT
2. Highlight the main problem
3. provide info by point form like me
4. always provide related keyword for SEO , so that similar help seeker will come to your thread and share their experience too.
After looking over your posts I see you seem to have alot of issues related to your camera and SD cards.
Providing a logcat is the biggest help. As for one rom you used. The MIUI rom it is best to check the MIUI site as no development is done here for it. Only simple ports.

Some issues are quite complex or involved, and very few people will be able to answer them.
Camera is often one of these things unfortunately. In some ways, the silly, often-asked questions get more answers than the "real" ones. The fact nobody else has had the issue means nobody else can likely help...
A shame, but hopefully you can get it sorted out!
Don't get me wrong, but why don't you consider this as an opportunity to learn more?
Try learning what causes the problem, what is supposed to happen, why does it happen, why doesn't it happen...
Take this as an opportunity to learn more...about android, about hardware, about kernels and roms...
Not saying that it would be easy...
Hopefully, you may be able to do something about it...
And who knows, maybe XDA would get lucky with a new dev on the block
