Question, if I wanted to make a dinc2 connect to boost mobile, wouldn't that just be a switch of the apn info? Where as it would be connecting to Sprint towers instead of the Verizon ones?

If you mean that you want to have service with Boost they would have to add your ESN to their systems and they don't do that to my knowledge. I know Sprint won't do it.

You would actually have to flash your phone to boost mobile. If you browse craigslist there are a lot of people who would do it for a reasonable price. Or you could try yourself.

May not be that difficult.. I used to play around with a Moto Droid X and the only way to root the latest OTA was to flash a file that turned it into another phone and on TMobile... I don't have them in my area for service but while on the TMobile Rom I tried *228 and it connected to their activation service and not Verizon... Was weird. I belive, at least in my area Boost uses Sprint towers so... Should be easy if you can find the right software/tools to do it... Good luck!!

Um.... *228 doesn't work on Tmo for activation.... best case it will take you to a CSR. For most people it just tells them to call 611. Are you sure you're remembering that right?

What tools are you talking about? If your just needing to push stuff to the phone you could prepare the packages in windows on the program(s) then push them in linux, I really don't know exactly what your speaking of though could you be more specific?

Qpst, cdma tool, and I'm forgetting the others... If I /can/ just make a flashable with them it would be fine but the first hurdle to get over is drivers. I think if I have understood the programs correctly they need to directly interact with the phone.

thinking of changing to republic, but i still want to keep my inc2. anyone have any ideas that knows more about this company?
I wouldn't recommended that. Republic seems too good to be true. You can keep your inc2 but you can not use it on their plan bc they have only one phone (LG optimus)

There's also an article on android police
Seems like a good idea for the service but when not using WiFi you are really hampered...I think somewhere they basically consul you on getting back on track using wireless if your 3g or whatever gets too high. I like the concept but would make sure you check all the details before taking the plunge.

Also since it is based off of Sprints network you will be really sacrificing signal for cost unless you are always in WiFi. Look into page plus if you are needing to cut cost. They run off Verizon towers and can use any Verizon phone if unlocked.

Signed up for the next round of invites, going to try one as a second line.
I would actually be interested in this, if I didn't already have an Inc2 and service through my parent's family plan. Maybe in a few years when they cut me loose, I will check it out, assuming it's still around. Would probably even be more refined.
Just lost my phone in taxi I'm rooted also have face unlock and pattern unlock secondary. Is there anything I can do to assure the finder can't use it. Or can I track it. I'm on monthly 4g so no insurance!
That sucks man. As for gps locating your phone I believe that's offered by your insurance, or if you had any type of Norton, kaspersky, trend micro etc security on it. They offer stuff like that. Otherwise you might be SOL. As for them getting in I don't know. Maybe someone else can shed some light on that answer.

Go to the play store from your computer and download "plan b" it will be pushed to your phone and allows you to track it.

I hate how easy it is for someone to look up how to wipe a phone and easily bypass all security. Usually when someone finds a phone, that person doesn't want to know your stuff.
Where's my Droid can also be pushed, and then you can get it's location

did u ever set up Lookout on you phone? it comes w/it.. if you maybe randomly did one day, you can find it with that
2nd to the Plan B. That works amazingly. Also, check if you have a cab receipt. You might be able to use that to identify which cab specifically had the phone. You can call into their dispatch office and ask for that cab. Lookout is awesome too.
I called the cab said he saw no phone. Another passanger could have gotten it. I'm not even going to bother now what's done is done. Thanks to you and everyone for your help. I wanted a new phone anyway maybe my wife will get me one for fathers day. I find that the GS3 is not much of a significant upgrade from the GSII. I would much more suggest a Galaxy Nexus since it will still be relevant for many more months to come. The GN comes with pure stock ICS not that TW crap. The GN is almost certain to receive jellybean directly from Google pretty quick while the S3 will have to suffer through what the SII just went through from GB to ICS

I would recommend setting up a pin lock on your next device, that way whenever the phone is restarted it prompts you for the pin. It doesn't matter if it's been wiped or not, it registers with your carrier. Also, as added security, I use Avast and from there I can remotely wipe my sd card and the phone, thus removing any chance of someone getting any of my personal info.

It would take a lot of work. Modify the apk, modify the phone, then modify your ports and proxy. Still wouldn't be very safe and would have to make sure nfc beam was off. For reasoning on this point, just research why most credit cards lost their smart chips. For the lazy, a person of interest may find it a bit easier to get your credit card details if your are broadcasting it.
Now if Google incorporated a little 2 step process, Google it, then maybe it could work. Though I am sure this may prompt certain individuals to start working hard to get access to our Google ids.
For giggles, I tried first and second part. It kept crashing settings.apk. Something with the nfc trying to initialize and at random times killed my radio when trying to connect to Google. Not sure if that had something to do with TMO. Didn't bother looking into it more.
Well it is possible that way but modifying the apk will lead to problems but i just think that we take files from the galaxy nexus gsm and edit the phone like build.prop so instead we trick the apk but we might need to tweak it a little.
Ps I'm not a expert dev or a newbe im in the middle closer to newbee because I'm too scared to root my phone.

My friend is getting a Sprint gnex tomorrow, and he wants to activate it on boost. ESN is clean and all that, just wanted to know if it would work with boost. I've read that if the phone has 11 or 18 (something like that) numbers on the ESN they won't really give you a problem activating it on boost, since it matches up with their system. Thanks in advance
Yes its possible just look for a how to. If you don't know anything about programming or whatever

Cool deal. Sounds like your phone's wifi is borked. Now how about some information.
Stock
S-off/on
Htcdev unlock
Yeah, rooted or not? If its not, go into bootloader and try doing a factory reset and check again
May just be a corrupted system, so if you root it then you could try flashing another rom to see if that fixes it
My bad yeah its still stock.. I already did the factory reset twice.. talked to sprint customer care.. they said I need to talk to the local sprint store... I think if I root it and put a good ROM on it that it might fix it..

Okay so a used or refurbished? If you have no warranty on it by all means root, s-off, and never look back. There are two things that can be your problem. Bad software on system or bad hardware on board. If it is hardware well no wifi but if it is software than you will then have a full rooted super fast evo.
50/50 odds wifi/nofi with no variables added yet.
Bad ota update would make it around 70/30
Next bad htc software 75/25 wifi/nofi
Sure I say go for it. I am doing one as we speak. While taking apart a cheesy Inspire to see if I can get the buttons working after it dived into a wall.

It may be his router causing the issue if it worked at sprint. If its hardware the radio is replaceable and fairly cheap these days. As long as you know how to work a screw driver and aren't a clumsy oaf, all you need to do is open it up extract the part carefully and order a replacement. Then replace it, button it up and give it a test run. Ifixit has the tear down to show you where and how to replace the radio

It could still be the router/phone combo. I know my sons kindle fire didn't like certain network types. It wouldn't even see ad-hoc and wouldn't connect to infrastructure with security. There could be a setting on the evo that isn't playing nice with the network settings or vice versa. Could be hardware, or software. Make sure sprint connections optimizer is off under network settings > more > mobile networks. You could also try reinstalling the firmware with an ruu and see if maybe the radios need updated or something in /system is corrupted
