Is it possible to replace the touchwiz messages app with the stock ICS messages app? Thanks!
You would have to be rooted to use the exact messaging app but you could just use go SMS pro and theme it like ics.
Nope, you don't need to do that anymore. I had swapped out my sms app for the stock one but you can now simply download 'Android 4.1 JB Messaging SMS' from the market.
Works just like the stock one I had installed.
Enjoy

but then it is a third-party app and you will have two messaging apps i like the OP would like to know if we can replace the stock messaging app with the stock JB messaging or even the ICS messaging.
Thanks.
Yes you can, mash here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1728308. This should be in Q&A thread.
Thanks guys! Turns out you can just move the ICS MMS.apk to /system/app and it works perfectly. Renamed Samsung MMS with .old so I didn't get double notification.

Since updating to EB13 I haven't been able to stand the look of the Messaging app. I realise there are 3rd party options (Handcent, GoSMS, etc.) but I'd rather only have one Messaging app on the phone.
Is there a way to remove TouchWiz Messaging and use plain, vanilla Android Messaging? If I do this should I expect it to break SMS Backup?
I do have root access and Windows, but I'm not particularly savvy with adb.
Thanks!
Check out my new themed mms. you can also use the no bubble mms from cm6 that we used on dk28 and I got another trick up my sleeve for tonight

I wish. After doing my black mms I realized a way I can do it without bubbles. So it would be the tw mms app but no bubbles

Im currently on the Andromadus Audacity Beta 3 and love the rom so far, but the MMS apk included kinda sticks out. Is there a way to change the colors of the app so I can get a black background and blue or white text to match the ICS style theme, or is there another apk I can flash to replace the one that came built in with the rom?
Found all over google play

I didnt want an add on app though like go sms or handcent. I like the stock one just not the look of it.
Go SMS is your best bet. It has plenty of themes to suit your needs. It even has quick reply, quick text, (and more) something stock doesn't have. It's a nice app.

Do you know if its safe to remove the stock mms app and use go sms as a standalone?
You don't even have to remove the stock one but you can, or if you want in between freeze stock in titanium backup

Removing the stock mms apk will force close go sms. At least this is what I've found on testing when I was making a rom having only go sms.

I always use go SMS and delete the mms apk via titanium backup. There is a feature that allows it to operate with it deleted

If u want to theme the mms app, you have to decompile mms.apk and go into drawable hdpi folder and change around some of the images. For more complex things you can edit the style.xml file in the decompiled mms apk

Hi,
is there any mod that would show the number of SMS messages per contact in stock SMS app, like in old Sense versions?
Device One X and Sense 4.1
Not sure about mods but the ics messaging app on play store has this feature

I know, but i like Sense stock sms app .
I don’t think there is a mod. But you can try a different messaging app like Handcent SMS. You can make it look like the stock messaging app by modifying the theme and color settings.
hello, as the title states, i wish to replace the touchwiz messaging app on jedi X7 with the messaging app from cm10. Is this possible? thanks in advance! i searched but it seems most people do it for htc's messaging app. not sure if its the same for touchwiz and whether anything has changed for jb. Thanks!!!
So I have managed to replace the TW MMS with AOSP just fine. I would like the AOSP Dialer and Contacts app if it is safe to install over the touchwiz ones. The Camera seems to work fine and MMS don't cause force closes for me.
Also if anyone has the Touchwiz ones in case I break something, I'd love those as well.

Nit sure if it will work but to back up your files just rename the contacts.apk and dialer.apk to contacts.apk.bak and dialer.apk.bak and then rename them back to original if you mess up. Also this is in the wrong forums as this is not an app or theme so should go in the qna section since it is more of a question.
