Stock Rom without Deleting Files - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hi forumers I need some help.
How to return sto stock rom without deleting my personal files? I dont have a back up of my phone.
Thanks in advance.

Backup your personal files. If they are on the sdcard then no problem there to backup, just put them on your computer. Then from any method you can found on this forum, using manual commands, tookits (wugs, gnex) just flash the stock version you want and then restore back your personal files.
Of course some manipulation will be needed, that is why I suggest you do a little search before doing anything. Remember Google is your friend.

[Q] Remove / uninstall apps from Nandroid backup

Greetings,
I can't seem to find relevant information on my query. I have backed up my Desire Bravo stock rom using Nandroid. I would like to know if the following are possible:
1. Remove apps from imaged backed up by Nandroid. If it can, how?
2. If apps can be removed, can I flash the image back.
I have rooted the phone using Unrevoked, not s-off yet.
Please advise. Newbie here trying to learn and understand the phone better
Thank you.
Not really.
AFAIK, it is an image file (like .iso). However with some tricks you can edit it, but then it will be an MD5 mismatch - so it won't be good.

Plug it in to your computer and copy it over. Your data and pictures will be fine, think of your 16 or 32 gbs of memory as a memory card. It will be safe.
As for being the first time you flash a custom rom I would recommend reading through instructions multiple times until you feel comfortable. Even look up videos on youtube.
and if anything goes wrong, am i able to just copy all those files back over and overwrite what happened?

Yes you can fix it if you mess up. But as long as you follow the instructions properly you will be fine. Not to mention that the community here is more than willing to help out

Backup question

Hi guys,
So Im not happy with my current rom and want to change to a different one but I dont want to have to start again with a blank phone. So is this the correct way to backup?
- Run a full Titanium backup and copy the backup file to my laptop.
- Factory wipe my phone and flash the new rom.
- Restore from Titanium backup.
Will that put the phone back to how I had it last with all my apps but running on the new rom? Or am I asking too much?
Or will I need to reinstall everything but then restore the backup so I havent lost anything? I really want to avoid reinstalling all apps and loosing progress on my games etc.
Any help appreciated!
No need to do all that.
The SD isn't wiped during this process.
Just follow my guide linked in my sig.
Post 2 details flashing a rom.
Thanks for replying so quickly! I think I get the idea now from your guide. So the Nandroid is just for emergency, I dont need to restore that unless I get a dead phone etc?
so the factory wipe doesnt delete everything on the SD on the GNex? So the Titanium backup will still be sitting there even after a factory wipe? I just want to be sure!
Followed the guide and all worked ok, thanks Jubakuba!
I must say the AOKP rom is amazing, so fast ana many features.

[Q] Odin Backup for GT-I9195

Hi!
I would like to create an Odin backup of my GT-I9195 and found the following thread for the GT-I9000. Can I simply follow these instructions or would I have to change the input files of the dd comand lines? What files would I need to create a complete backup including all private files for backup purposes?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=960946
Also: At the end of that manual there is the file darky.tar.md5 given as output. Do I simply flash this file as the PDA file with Odin without flashing any other file in parallel and it would do the job?
I would like to have an Odin backup in addition to my CWM backup in case I will ever experience a hard crash and it will not boot into CWM. I had this problem once with my SGS GT-I9000 and don't want to go through that again...
Thanks,
kp

Bump, same here
Hey guys, really nobody???
Changes must be made! You'll need to find the partition scheme on your phone (block devices & their mount points) to know what to dump with dd. Then you should pack the files with tar and flash with Odin as one file (in theory). In practice there's a great chance of bricking your phone for nothing. It's simply not worth the risk, my opinion.
P.S. If it's not urgent for you, I may try to create/flash such a backup if I have enough time to deal with it.

Ok, I didn't know that that is such an effort. I just wanted to have a clean backup in case I am even unable to boot into the CWM menue but I don't want to risk bricking it. Then just let's hope that this will never be necessary. Thanks for your offer to create an image anyways.
Such an effort... Well, the procedure itself is quite easy and fast though you have to know what you're doing. If you want to do that for fun then it's OK, otherwise you're looking for a trouble.

That's exactly my problem: I would not know what I am doing...!
I am not familiar with the structure of the files that is needed for Odin flashing. I thought there was a general and easy way to follow (like creating a CWM backup) so that one can simply create an Odin backup in case of having trouble for any reason.
However I found some stock images from Samsung that you can flash with Odin. So if I would ever have severe problems with booting into CWM then I will just flash that base image. Installing CWM on it and then restore my last CWM backup. It's a little bit more laborious but it's a way I can live with.
Exactly! I would recommend that; always have stock firmware around. Hope you won't stuck into trouble to use it.:good:

E975: Backuping original LG's Software before going CM?

Hello there,
I googled a lot, I searched a lot here, but I did not find what I searched for.
I am thinking about testing the new Version of Cyanogenmod, the problem is that I in fact never did anything like this.
I want to set back the device to manufactures setting and then backup the original LG Software, so that I can go back to the standard before selling, or if CM isnt quite mine.
Anyone tips or links how to manage that?
Thank a lot before, sorry if this was asked before (I'm pretty shure), I couldn't find.

After rooting and unlocking, make sure you place the efs backup somewhere safe. You can also make a nandroid backup and restore it if you don't like cm. or you can use kdz updater to flash stock firmware.
I'm sure you looked all the places, except the FAQ
Okay, this sounds good to me.
Does any of the 3 Methods give me the same way of a full backup from the original software, or is there something else that has to be done?
I searched for the Faqs, but I couldn't find any?
Thanks a lot!

No, these are different things. EFS backup is to save your butt in case something happens with your IMEI. This is one of the most important things, don't overlook it! Nandroid backup is a "snapshot" of your existing ROM, including all your installed apps and their settings. This is the easiest way to get back to your previous ROM after experimenting with others. And KDZ is not a backup - it's a factory image that will return your phone to the exact same state as it was when brand new.

Look in @kimitza signature. It's his baby. :good:
the nandroid backup is like a restore image for windows. you will have all apps/settings from that time saved. here is a scenario:
1. On clean stock rom, root and unlock(unlock will also flash cwm recovery). Place FREEGEE folder somewhere safe.
2. Enter recovery mode and make a backup.
3. Flash any other rom ...and if you don't like it, restore the backup you made earlier.
4. Restore EFS with freegee.
5. Use Unroot from supersu.
6. Backup all your files(photo and other media to pc) then do a hard reset.
7. You will have a clean stock/official rom, like it came from factory.
All of this can be simplified by backing up your files and use kdz updater, followed by a hard reset. .It takes less time and it's safer.
I rooted it, but I dont have an hint of an idea how to do these efs backup?

what is to do with that zip? I'm from germany and I have no clue what run in recovery mode should tell me. On the Phone or on the PC?
If unzipped, what is there to do?
As I want to use the cm installer with 10.2 stable, I just want to backup everything important..
Sorry, wrong link, i meant this of course, its allready rooted

Sorry for posting again, but honestly, I'm not allowed to post in the efs thread, so I cant do anything right now.
Im still waiting to flash it.
Anyone should do efs backup, so basicly people should be able to tell me how to do that or?
Please anyone!
When you unlock the bootloader with freegee, it automagically makes a backup of the EFS,amongst other things(like bootloader state, imei, partitions etc). It's enough to place that FREEGEE folder somewhere safe. If you ever run into troubles(like no IMEI shown or you just want to go back to stock without using KDZ updater),just restore with freegee. It will relock you bootloader and restore EFS(with imei).
