ROM is killing my battery - Suggestions on a solid ROM? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Is there a current ROM that is rock stable and offers good battery life? I don't mind if its JB or ICS but battery life is really important

Actually roms do not affect battery life, the responsable of battery dains is the kernel, in my experience I have tried only stock ics (rom and kernel) and battery life was decent, then I switched to miui with air kernel and with this kernel I have the best battery life for my use. You have to try different kernes and its setup because every user has different tasks to do with the phone.

Kernel is probably the cause of the battery drain, not ROM

try whichever you want:
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
as mentioned above

im very happy with franco's kernel ...you should try it...its stable and gives a great battery life
plus the all the cool options

IMO the best ROM isn't listed on this website. It is CodeNameAndroid. I know it is a ROM full of controversy and I don't care. It is by far the best one I have tried (I have tried almost every ROM), no others even come close. I am running it with the Trinity Kernel v35.

AOKP for ICS or ParanoidAndroid/CM10 for JB

[Q] Quick Question

Hello everyone,
I am new to the Epic 4G Touch and I have a question? There are quite a few roms for this devices and I was wondering witch rom is the latest? I was running AOKP, but the battery life for me was vary bad so I had to go back to stock for now.. Is there any ICS roms with great and or better battery life than AOKP?
Try cm9. Its fast, smooth and stable. Or you could give a touchwiz rom like Calks 1.6 rom + kobridge tweaks a go.

If you absolutely have to be on ICS, I tend to agree with Rick.
Calk 1.6: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1527041
Kobridge Tweaks for Battery Life: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1668853
In any case, for the BEST battery life & stability, you should go with a Gingerbread ROM. At least until ICS is fully released.

Only use el26cwm to flash to or from any ICS ROM.

Been using CM9 since the start. After updating to Alpha 4 after a fresh install battery life has been pretty good.
Battery life after fresh install seems to last most of the day. However life depends on many different issues and what you have installed.
Calks seems to last pretty good. Battery tweaked version seemed to last all day for me.
Thanks everyone!
There is one thing I do not get is those battery tweaks? There are several zips in it and I'm not sure witch one to flash?

Kobridge's tweaks are pretty good. I wrote the flashable zips and Kobridge has been busy tweaking.
SF = Super Fast (least battery savings)
F = Fast
M = Medium
A = Agressive (most battery savings but you may notice a little lag here and there)
Edit: There is a set specifically designed for Calk's ICS rom too!

I don't know how new you are to these roms... just give them a chance to settle in. It takes a couple of days for any fresh install to settle down so don't expect to see real results for a little while.
i know blue kubans rom is pretty good on battery life as well. and has alot of choose your own customization built into the rom with rom updater. i recommend u check it out. its just screams awesomeness if ur tired of the old classic epic 4g touch theme

Experiment! My current setup is in my signature. There is no best. I haven't been on the GNex forums too long, but my Nexus S was super picky with what I ran on it, so I just stuck with stock.

What ROM/Kernel do you use for best battery life?

Hey all,
Just wanted to see which ROM/Kernel everyone is using. I'm looking to get the best battery life I can. I'm currently using Sammy but I've heard that the stock kernel is good as well? I'd love to hear everyone's recommendations and suggestions.
I'm using the current AOKP (actually i haven't installed the update from today yet) as well as the latest Ktoonez's KT747 kernel and have nothing but great things to say about the battery life. The KT747 also comes with Ktweaker for overclocking and undervolting which when balanced properly can increase performance all the while actually improving battery life.

[Q] Need a good ROM for my wife

My wife and I both have Galaxy S3's, mine from Verizon (Work) and her's AT&T. I'm running the Jelly 'Beans' ROM with Imoseyons 1.8 Lean Kernel and the phone is great with excellent battery life.
What I need for her phone is a stock-looking ROM on the front end with a fast and stable back end with GREAT battery life. She came from an HTC OneX and her only complaint about the S3 is battery life compared to the HTC. I need something that I can flash and forget, doing constant flashes on her phone isn't feasible. So, what's the best ROM and Kernel combo for her?
For battery life and simplicity Liquid Smooth beta with KTOONZ kernel is what I'd run excellent battery life. Its my back up rom. I've had 4% battery drop in five hours. Very fast and stable no glitches at all.

If you want a ROM where you dont need to flash constant updates - stick to a TW based ROM.
Like CSRom or Dandroid
If i had to recommend a good rom i would say Vanilla Rootbox, it's stable with a good amount of features.
Team Venum Wicked Sensations.

Another vote for CSROM. Great battery life (especially with Ktoonsez's kernel) and it's TW so she won't have much adjusting to do.
I think I'm going to go with CSROM with Ktoonsez's kernel. Thanks for the replies!
CSROM or i747z are great.

If you want to keep it simple, try Task650's AOKP 4.2.1 rom. Great battery life, extremely stable, no ridiculous theming, tons of setup options within the rom. Would be perfect for your wife, sir!

I'm running Task's AOKP on my AT&T S3. It's fast and I get great battery life, up to 2 or 3 days sometimes without heavy use. With average use, you can still easily get through the day.
CyanogenMod is a pretty good and light rom to start with.
but if you dont like constant updates, i'd say just stick with TW rom, the Samsung apps on there are pretty sweet, especially S Memo
Rom (Blackjelly): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1883845
and
Kernel (KT747): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1756776
Both combined give me a fantastic battery life along with great performance.

I don't know if you've made your decision OP, but most of these people recommend TW based roms. I agree with them. AOSP roms are constantly getting updated which is not what you want, so touchwiz based is the way to go. CSRom is an excellent choice and KToon's kernel is superb for battery life in my own experience. Just wanted to let you know that AOSP roms are not really what you should choose if you don't plan on flashing her device a lot.

Actually, you only have to flash a lot if those updates are important to you. I've been on the same version of tasks 4.1.2 rom for months, no need to update... most of the updates are tiny tweaks and updates, like lockscreen options, and things like that... as long as it's stable and fully functional (which tasks builds are infamous for being) just grab the latest version, flash and forget.

At this point 4.2.1 is still in early stages. I would wait a while until most things are fully functional and the only things being worked on are additions and minor minor bugs that don't affect performance to much.

That's how it should be but in reality it's not. Sammy roms have much better battery life but then again that could just be because there are better power and memory management features on stock. It's the only reason I've been reverting back to stock since almost every other cm10.1 based roms have ridiculously weak battery life.

that's kinda weird because on mine the battery on stock sucks but on cm10.1 it lasts a lot more so i was thinking the same for note2
Not really. Battery life is awesome at is on stock. You could flash some kernel like Perseus and do some undervolting or even underclocking to
squeeze more battery out of it though.
Battery life, I've found it to be more or less the same, if not marginally better on stock.
@bushako - How's battery life on MIUI mate? Heard it drains battery more than other stock based ROMs?
So what is better i hear different story's haha

I actually ended up going back to stock based Rom. The battery life wasn't as bad as I had thought, it got me about 6hours screen time. Don't get me wrong MIUI really looks gorgeous but at the expense of performance, especially at this stage since there's quite a few bugs that needs ironing out and also because MIUI and xposed framework use the same setup they are incompatible and I'm use to lower DPI. I might get back with signs of improvements.
Also, I found that Perseus kernel is not compatible with aosp and that so far the one that does work is neak and redpill.

Lower dpi means better battery life or drain the battery?
