Awesome BEATS for Rooted Galaxy S3 At&t Tutorial - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

This is My First Tutorial On how to get AwesomeBEATS installed on your Rooted At&t Galaxy S3. This will basically run under your sound preference. Natively with Google Music... at least with my Tutorial.
***Please note: If you decide to install this Zip and follow the instruction. Is at your own risk.***
1 Download the .Zip file included on the post.
2 Connect your Rooted At&t Galaxy S3 to your PC
3 Copy and Paste the .Zip file on your internal storage of your Rooted At&t Galaxy S3. (Do not Extract.)
4 Disconnect your Rooted At&t Galaxy S3 from your PC.
Then on your Rooted At&t Galaxy S3 follow this steps: (Possibly there is a shorter way but this is how it worked for me)
1. Boot into Recovery
2. Make a Nandroid backup. Important before proceeding.
3. Wipe data/factory reset
4. Wipe cache partition
5. Wipe Dalvik Cache
6. Flash AwesomeBEATSv3. zip
7. DO NOT REBOOT – STAY IN RECOVERY
8. Select backup and restore
9. Select advanced restore
10. Select the Nandroid backup you made above
11. Select Restore data
12. Select Yes – Restore data
13. WAIT!
14. REBOOT
15. Close all open applications on your Rooted At&t Galaxy S3.
16. Go to Setting, then Sound, then Music effects, Select Awesome BEATS. Enjoy.
To find the AwesomeBEATS Equalizer:
1 Go to Google Music, Select the song you want to hear. Then select Menu & Equalizer.
All the Thanks are for "Awesome" who created this port and to "PeterGuru" who Instructed me on how to properly make data restore without a sweat.
Hope This Makes Happy a Few People.
***Please note: If you decide to install this Zip and follow the instruction. Is at your own risk.***

Flashing now !! Will report in 10 mins

Quick question. When you install a custom ROM on an s3, is all of the bloatware removed?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app

QUOTE amessina: Quick question. When you install a custom ROM on an s3, is all of the bloatware removed?
When you go an download a new custom ROM It should specify if the bloatware was removed or not. It depends on which ROM you picked.
Normally this is specified in the description of the actual ROM thread.

depends on the rom. Most carrier bloat is removed on the s3 roms but Samsung bloat still on most touchwiz based roms

I'm Happy that it worked. I was searching for a good tutorial that anyone could follow. So I decided to make this for everyone could enjoy it. Cheers!

Surprisingly I haven't found a need to root my GS3 just yet...I'm still holding off but this just added another for me.
"Thanks" button hit

Has anyone used this with the speaker booster app? I currently use that to increase my speaker volume but was thinking about flashing this. Please let me know your thoughts.

Great tutorial. Works "AWESOME"

Works amazing! Thanks so much, I am really enjoying the improved audio!

Great job! It sounds so much better. Just another reason to root your SIII.

Hmmm. I ran everything as directed and I have no "Music Effects" anywhere in my settings/sounds. Do I need to run though everything again?

I'm running the stock AT&T Rom - rooted, of course. No errors during installation and everything seemed to go as planned.

Does this work on aokp?
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda premium

At the moment only only stock rooted. I haven't tried on AOKP. I'm sticking with stock rooted for the moment. If someone would like to try. Just make sure to make a nandroid backup.
jerastan: I would suggest to try and do a restore from your nandroid backup and to it all over again.
I tried a different rom today and it didn't requirer the data wipe to install the .zip on top.
Just clear cache and dalvik. Install .zip and reboot.

Many thanks! Especially because this seems to be the only third party equalizer i can get to work with Google Play Music on-device songs on a stock rom.

Any stable JB update?

I really want to flash a JB rom but i keep seeing that other software needs to be reinstalled. Just wondering if there was any JB rom that is close to factory as far as installation? EX. Flashing any firmware on your phone has inherent danger to it. If you feel nervous about, just wait until att pushes the official JB update. If you don't want to wait, just do a lot of research first.

Purchase Titanium Backup Pro from the play store. Great app. You can back up all of your apps and app settings there (dont backup/restore the system settings though) and then when you flash the new rom, install titanium on that, and restore the backup
Is that the only program that does that? How about astro?

You'll have to look around for an app that will backup/restore apps and data.

[App]Google Wallet Installer

Google Wallet Installer for Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and US Cellular Samsung Galaxy S3.
Requires ROOT, an UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER, and BUSYBOX!(A deodexed ROM is just recommended)
My newest project, RemoteFlash, was just released! Take a look and give it a try!
Wallet Installer Is Now Available For Free To All Supported Carrier Models On XDA! (Donations Appreciated)
My application, "Wallet Installer", will install Google Wallet on almost any US based Samsung Galaxy S3. It simply edits your build.prop and then places the correct modifications into your system. It downloads all the files from my personal server, which is pretty quick. Just select the appropriate Rom type: AOSP, JB Touchwiz, or ICS TouchWiz, and then your carrier: Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, or US Cellular. I also added a restore option for your build.prop, so you can restore it after you setup Google Wallet. Hopefully this helps you out and makes the process easier!
Wallet Installer has been updated on the server side. The credit goes to Paul Obrien for the new version! To install it, simply reset Google Wallet, delete it, and then rerun Wallet Installer! Make sure to also have BusyBox installed/updated!
Please donate if my work helps you : )

Unfortunately, no. It has to use an open, unencrypted recovery to flash the files. I would allow use of CWM if it was unencrypted, but it's not. An option I am planning on adding in the future is the option to backup your current recovery and flash it after TWRP has been used.

It sounds like you had a bad download. Go under your /sdcard partition and look for files like: "Wallet.zip", "recovery.img", "Fix.zip" and delete them(they shouldn't be there if they flashed correctly). After deleting those files, try again. Make sure you have a good data connection. Preferably WiFi.

Technically the open recovery isn't an issue, at least not development wise. I use it because there are different versions of CWM rolling around, and they aren't all capable of the same things. This way, with an open recovery flash, I greatly reduce the chance of bricking/other issues.

Also, if the build prop was edited to SPH-710 the Samsung voice program would still work
EXACTLY what I was looking for. I saw the entire post about getting it working, and just didn't feel that I was "qualified" enough to do what was required. I bought the app and figured I'd give it a try. It took a bit longer to download from the Play Store for some reason, but once it was done, it installed rather quickly.
I then ran the program, and selected as it was instructed. POOF it started installing, and then the phone rebooted into TWRP (I already use TWRP anyway), and all went well. I set up my account and that too went well. I tested it as I could and it works, then I decided to restore my build prop, after that again the phone rebooted, and then tested out wallet. It too works again.
Now then the only thing I am thinking about is automatic updates. I have to have that for another program for my work. I've seen the other post that you do not want the auto updates on. If on the next auto update it causes a problem I will report that here, but I think that just re running the program letting it do the build prop again, get it working, then restoring the build prop should be an easy fix for that.

Every time you want to flash a new ROM, you have to reset google wallet. Then you can use my app again, after the new ROM flash, and you'll have wallet again. When it comes to 4.2 in specific I can't give you a straight answer, since I don't have access to a 4.2 ROM. My guess is that it will work fine, but it's never been tested.

If I just update a new version of a current Rom as I do weekly doing a dirty flash or not wiping just clearing dalvic cache etc, would I still need to re-install the app. Or only on a full wipe or a new Rom would I need to start from scratch? .
Another question if I re-install the app would I need to setup the payment every time and add new funds or cards or would all that information be available in the account

If you're dirty flashing, you should be fine leaving Wallet as is, but if you need to do a wipe, you should really reset Wallet. All of that information is saved on Google's servers, so it will be there next time

Changing From Rom to Rom

Titanium Backup.
Been some problems with titanium back up when flashing new roms, see galaxy nexus development threads for some examples, if you want a relatively failsafe method that stores your apps off phone you can use a file manager like astro to back up all your apps into apks then drop the backups into a folder on your computer via usb, along with any media or data you want preserved, then reload after fully wiping phone and flashing new rom, you might have to download a file manager to install the apks if rom doesnt have one. Gather you have a custom recovery installed, dont forget to update it prior to flashing new rom so you can recover if all doesnt go to plan. Good luck

If you are using the latest version of titanium backup, you have the option of creating flashable zips of all your apps with data included. Tried it a few times and it seems to work flawlessly for me. The key is to avoid restoring any system apps. I have about 70+ apps to restore and setup. Before it would take me an hour or two, now is done in about 10 minutes.

Titanium backup is useless unless you actually have the pro version. Pro version makes it all one click, set it and forget it. Definitely recommend it for any custom rom flasher.

I've never used other roms so I'm not familiar with any. No idea about kernels either.

I'll just try a few and see what I like.
Also, how do I access my 'sdcard' directory on my Nexus? When connected to USB it navigates straight into 'Internal Storage'. I'm looking for my Nandroid backup.

We don't have an external SD card. So the internal storage is where all your files are at. Under a "0" folder since your on 4.2.1.

Yeah I just thought there was an emulated 'sdcard' folder linked to Internal. I just can't find the clockwork folder, or the '0' folder (which I understand is for multi user in 4.2.1) for that matter.
0 is a symlink. Your computer should ignore it for the most part. At least mine always has with both my Xoom and My Gnex. Just takes me straight to the contents of the 0 folder.
I'm pretty fond of CM 10.1 nightlies, but that's for toroplus. I'm just familiar with the feel of CM from using it a lot on my old Optimus S. Among other things, it gives me the old, familiar Notification area toggles instead of JUST offering the quick power tiles (. . . whatever they're called) that AOKP uses.
If you currently use the option to back up your apps and settings to Google's servers, the fresh install of a nightly build will automagically download a lot for you. You'll likely want to use Titanium Backup to save the few settings that can be safely restored, and the most recent app data, before each new flash. It's worth it to get the Pro Key so that batch restores don't involve 85 million "press this button" confirmations. Ask anyone who uses TiBu; they'll tell you it's a good, solid app.
Do definitely shop around for the ROM you like most. They all have different features and flair. (I almost uninstalled AOKP on first run because of the bootloader animation; it's a bit garish.) And don't be afraid to go back to stock if you find that you just don't care about the bells and whistles on offer.
Don't forget to download the latest Gapps and flash it after flashing each latest ROM. You'll have a difficult time setting up your Google account otherwise.
I've used AOKP, Xenon Hd, Paranoid and Stock mostly, the custom roms have some nice features but I've found lack of stability some times, so far I always end up going back to stock.
My recommendation is to do a nandroid back up and/or Titanium backup and try as many roms as you want until you find the one that is ideal for you.

[Q] Phone Won't Remember Default Apps

Hello. When I am opening files or links it will ask me what app I would like to use, and even though I select "Always" afterwards it still prompts me again the next time I try the same action. Now I just hit "Just Once" in order to avoid that annoying "Clear defaults" message (Yes phone, I know where to clear defaults, you've told me a thousand times...). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
What Rom? Rooted or not?
Did you try the usual, turn it off and pull the battery, clean the odex left over files. ..etc?
Maybe some tweaks you did or a roque app you installed?
More information would be helpful.

Go here and install the latest version UVBMD1:

Most likely that will fix your problem.

It is up to you which one you want.
It looks to me that you didn't do this before, so my advice is to read, read, read and when you think you understand it READ everything all over again. We don't want you to brick your phone.
Go to Original Development section and learn how to flash Roms.
Good luck.

I've rooted and flashed roms before on my previous two LG phones and my tablet, I've just haven't seen them labeled like that before (Factory Image, Odexed , Deodexed, Kernel, Modem). My question is: Which is the best/easiest one to use for a newb like me (or a link to good thread that explains the difference)? Thanks.

I've been having the same issue.
T mobile note 2
Latest at&t Bean stalk Rom
Latest Devil kernel
No system apps are restored with tb
Basically no apps retain default settings
Examples
Facebook: does not retain dolphin as default browser
Handcent: does not retain quickpic as default gallery
This happens even if phone is not shut off. I can set them as default apps and at some point in the day they lose the setting. Happens whether clean install or dirty flash. Any ideas? If more info needed please advise.

I should add that some of my defaults work fine. I use different text editors to work on files from different apps and never have any issues with those. It seems to be mostly browsing issues on my phone.
