("Main version is older") Stuck on HTC Bootloader - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

I'm on a HTCDEV unlocked Inc2 and tried to get S-OFF tonight. Big fail. Hopefully somebody can help ASAP.
I relocked the bootloader through adb. Then went into bootloader, where the phone scanned and installed the RUU.zip I had renamed as per instructions. All went fineand I tried to open revolutionary but it kets scanning for deviced. Rebooted and but it keeps reloading the bootloader and trying the same RUU install over again and keeps failing saying "main version is older." ADB won't talk to the phone and now I'm dead in the water.
HEEEEELLLLP!!!!
Edit: Fastboot adb is talking and connected.

You try with taco root to downgrade?
Sent From My Goonified Kangdemnation Droid Incredible 2

Didn't think I could do tacoroot since I'm already rooted.
As an update. I was able to re-unlock and get back to the normal functioning bootloader. I actually hit factory reset and after showing the verizon update screen it booted into my old CM9 ROM. I totally botched this.

Actually you need taco root your just rooted from unlocked and soffing while unlocked is bad that's why you need to relocked use taco root method to get temporary root to achieve the downgrade and be able to use revolutionary

I read the instructions completely wrong. I though I had to lock- apply the gingerbread .zip , re-unlock and then revolutionary. Whoooops. Back to S-ON for me. I guess it'll have to wait for another night.

[Q] Sending Incredible back to Veri.but rooted

I'm sending my Incredible back to Verizon for a new Inc. but I'm rooted with the new update. Want should I do so they don't know I rooted this phone. OK just check my phone I guest when I did the official update it unrooted me. I' still S-OOF. But I got to go back to original stock before I sent the phone back my phone should get to me in 2 days. So I need to put back 2.1 and S-ON.
Have you done unrevoked forever and turned off the S-off, if so you should probably not send it in.
The best thing you can do is look for the stock 2.0 firmware. Also look on YouTube for a unroot video. I have unrooted and re-rooted this phone so it can be done.
Sent from my Rooted Droid Incredible
I'm S-OOF right know. So I should go back to S-ON and try to find 2.0 rom. Where can I find the right programs to this before 2 days.
I'll help you out.
It does NOT matter if you send the phone back with 2.1 or 2.2, they don't care.
They care about two things you need to worry about.
turning it back to S-ON
and having the stock recovery.
to achieve this. You MUST be rooted to do S-OFF or S-ON, so first off get rooted if your not. Then visit unrevoked
the unrevoked3 is for root, unrevoked forever is S-ON, S-OFF.
once you are rooted, follow the instructions to turn it back to S-ON. **(the same exact way you turned it to S-OFF, but using the new S-ON file.)**
Once this is completed now you will have S-ON, but you are still rooted, and have the ClockworkMod recovery. You need to un-root by downgrading using the 2.1 OR 2.2 RUU. your pick and like mentioned above. don't matteh. This will get you to have the stock recovery, and S-ON. Go in that order. Hope you get it. Peace.
If your S-OFF then you are screwed. There is no way to turn it back on. You are SOL man. You can always restore it to factory but the S-OFF will ALWAYS remain
Sent from my Rooted Droid Incredible
Also your phone has all the programs you need. You just news to put them all in the root of your SD card and reboot into hboot

Unless there has been a break though in getting HTC's and Verizon's super secret security code then I doubt it. The reason its called unrevoked forever is because there is no way to turn it back on. Check other posts in the xda to prove my point. If you return a S-off phone you will void the return and have to pay full price for the new one.

FYI unrevoked forever 1.1 was released last week allowing us to return to s-on.
Also, the reason its called forever is because it forever allows our phones to truly be ours, unlocked and how it should be.

Assuming that to be true why would unrEVoked be offering a package called unrevoked-forever-son?
They SPECIFICALLY provide it in case you need to go BACK TO S-ON....
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How can this be removed or undone if I need to take my phone in for service?
A: Download the latest ''S-ON'' tool to a temporary location and follow the installation instructions above to run it. Once your phone is S-ON, you may lose root permanently if you install an official update

Download S-ON file from unrEVOked's website and run that so that you get S-ON back onto the phone.
Then download either the 2.1 or 2.2 RUU (find them in the Android Development Section) and run that and it will wipe the phone and bring it back to factory state.
If it says your phone is not found when using the RUU, try downloading the HTC Sync software for the Incredible and installing that first. You need the drivers for "MY HTC" on the computer for the RUU to recognize it and HTC Sync will install that for you. I had that issue, but remedied it with the HTC Sync software install first.

S-OFF still showing after OTA?

My wife got her replacement Inc2 today after the one she got last week just died. She was on Froyo so I might of.. swapped her phones.. anyways, I rooted, went to the bathroom and the stupid ota ran I guess because when I came back the phone was on GB 2.3.3 however my boot screen shows S-OFF. Can anyone help me to verify that S-OFF is indeed still off. I can post any screen shots etc.. I am still a noob when it comes to the Inc2.
If your boot screen says S-Off, you are S-Off

Did you flash clockworkmod recovery when you rooted? I didn't think the OTA would take if you had a custom recovery. In any event, since you're still s-off, you're fine.
I actually hadn't flashed recovery yet. Went ahead and flashed recovery. Superuser installed but busybox keeps failing. I am manually installing them since the patch I found also includes a rooted kernel but it is for Froyo.
The biggest deal for me is I am still S-OFF. I'm just confused as to how I managed to remain S-OFF after the OTA went through. If I can't get busybox installed I'll probably install Ginger Sense to obtain it.

Alpharev changed ur hboot to a higer version than the one in the OTA.. this is why it kept you S-OFF.. if I'm wrong someone correct me.
So basically I just got really lucky and kept my S-OFF even though the OTA went through.

No. stock hboot is .97. alpharev bumped you up to 1.something.. idk I used XTC clip.. since your hboot is newer than the OTA.. it keeps you S-OFF, pretty smart by alpha.
So does this open a gateway to first root in Froyo and then go gingerbread and retain the root?
Only way to be able to tell is to have someone repeat my steps which were: stock froyo, run AlphaRevX, did not flash recovery, Run OTA (this happened by accident I did not intend for the OTA to go through) after the OTA is finished reboot and if it is indeed a "gateway" then S-OFF would still be on. (After seeing S-OFF was on (and making sure it was okay) I went ahead and installed cwm recovery at that point)
Now when I use the term "gateway" I say this loosely because it doesn't fix anything for anyone who is already on GB. If indeed this works, it would only work for a small percentage who get Froyo and don't flash clockwork before running the OTA.
I just got my Inc2 as a replacement for my fascinate, came with 2.1 might try your steps and see if my root will stay after doing the OTA

I've been wondering about this. I got my Dinc2 early July and I'm still on stock, unrooted Froyo. Somehow the OTA update to GB hasn't hit yet. Could I run ApharevX to get S-off and stop there for now? I am happy with bloated stock for the time being and want to be able to receive OTA updates, but would like to have the option down the road to add Clockworkmod and flash custom ROMs. From kujayhawks experience it seems that this should be possible.
Basically, if I achieve S-off with AlpharevX now, will I be able to pretty much do anything later?
P.S. First post, though I've been lurking around for a while. Great forum/community.

It appears from reports that S-off stays after the OTA to 2.3, so yea, that would seem to be the case.
If you turn S-off with AlphaRev, you might want to just go ahead and install Clockwork recovery at the same time. Doing so won't root or install SuperUser or anything, but you would be able to then backup your phone and be ready to flash if you wanted.
If you install clockwork recovery you won't be able to receive OTAs though, just keep that in mind. You can flash back to the stock recovery, but unless you are familiar with ADB, it won't necessarily be an easy process.

[Q] Root 2.3.4

So, did I screw up? I reflashed to stock 2.2 in order to fix a few issues. I got the OTA message to update and I did, so now I'm on 2.3.4 with no way to re-root because I can't turn s-off. Would it be safe to use the unrevoked s-off forever tool or should I go with the gingerbreak.apk method. I feel like an idiot for updating, so take it easy on me... LOL! Thanks in advance.
I used this guide to get my Incredible rooted.

My first time ever rooting an andriod device. May work for you, may not. You didn't say which device you have. I ended up using the zergrush method to get mine rooted with s-off. Not sure I needed to use that method since I had screwed up and made myself think I had to try it that way.

Thanks, but it didn't work for me. Not sure if it's because I'm a Mac user or what, but it was definitely a no go. I don't want to be stuck un-rooted forever! LOL!

Kind of a pointless video. Of course you can root 2.3.4 if your already s-off. That is the whole point of being s-off, so if newer firmware comes out that isnt supported by unrevoked or other rooting programs, you can still easily get root by flashing a custom recovery thru hboot and the su binary thru recovery, and your fully rooted again.

S-off help

S-off okay I've searched the forums and can't figure this out I've had a rooted Inc for a year now I had it unrooted for about 2 weeks before using unrevoked too root and install cwm but my hboot is set to s-on this hasn't been a problem until I tried to update cmw it won't install via hboot or rom manager. So I need to get to s off I'm running cm7 latest nightly. I see htc has unlocked the boot loader for the Inc today will this help me? And I rooted my brother's phone at the same time and his is set to s off this is why I'm confused...

Where did you see that the incredibles bootloader had beed unlocked by htc?
Unrevoked shold have given you s-off also.

What radio (baseband) version are you on.
EDIT: I see that htc has unlocked the incredibled bootloader, so yes you can just use that to get s-off.

Unlocked and cant flash renamed RUU in bootloader!

Probably should have TacoRooted and flashed the ruu but just went ahead and did htc unlock. Then renamed the old ruu as 'PG32IMG' and booted up into the bootloader and tried to let it run. Keeps on loading up the blue bar on the right side but never installs the files! What am I doing wrong, seems like the simplest process out there??
Before anyone blast me for not doing the method that there is more info on in the inc 2 threads its cuz this isn't my phone. Its my moms and was planning on relocking and going s-off. I know it will say re-locked, but its damn near impossible to brick a s-off phone-atleast from my experience on my rezound- and her contract is almost up so its not going be going back! Plus I figured I might be able to edit the characters of the boot screen like on some other htc's and maybe do something similar like 'oem writesecureflag 3' on my Rezound.
Any help would be appreciated!!

just my 2 cents, but doesn't he have to relock to flash an ruu
It can't be the download, relocked and tried to flash - it actually starts to flash but stops and says something like...cannot install older version.
Was going to try to force it through 'fastboot flash...' But adb won't find it - haven't messed with a Inc2 for a while and the s-off process is dif for my rezound - can't remember if you can push it like that while unlocked.
