I am trying to flash cm9. I just updated CWM to version 5.8.4.7. When i go into install zip from sdcard, there is no option to install zip from internal sdcard. When i go into choose zip from sdcard, it shows my internal sdcard (the rom is on my external). I tried to mount /external_sd and nothing changes. When i try to mount /sdcard, it wont mount.
Should i just try to install the rom from my internal sdcard? I heard that it was dangerous and it has to be the external sdcard. Is there something wrong with my cwm? I installed it by downloading the recovery.img to my internal sdcard and running dd if=... of=...
Sorry if i explained it poorly, again i cannot choose the zip from my external sdcard in cwm.

5.8.4.7 doesn't support the sdcard. I cant speak for who ever said its dangerous to flash from the internal...but I've been doing that and I haven't had a single problem.

Why doesn't the latest version of cwm allow flashing from external sdcard? Is it the best version to use?
Why? Idk.
Best one to use? Depends on you...some will like the touchscreen one others will like this one....I've never had a problem with it.

[Q] Trying to install StarBurst ROM from CWM, external_sd says "no files found"
I have Zedomax 4.1beta installed, and would like to install StarBurst ROM. I did a backup, formated, wipes cache, and dalvcache and then i select "install zip from SDcard" and select external_sd and it kicks me back to the main menu and says "no files found". I have formated the sd card multiple times (using computer, phone, and sd formater from sd association). The sd has the rom's zipped files.
Any ideas why this is happening?
Can i use the internal storage to install rom?
I dont know why it is not recognizing your sd card.
But yes, you can use the internal storage. Somewhere in CMW, there is an option to mount the sdcard, so you can connect ur phone to the computer, and put tbe ROM in the internal memory. Then, under "install zip from sdcard", there is an option to "install from internal memory". You tbst option to install the ROM from the phones internal.memory. if you cannot see that option, you need to use the latest version of CMW, its somewhere in the development section.

I second the CWR suggestion. One of the ROM or Kernel packages has a bad or old CWR in it, because I have seen your issue too. Using various Roms/kernel packages changed the color to CWR to orange and Blue. One of them didn't even have an option for the the internal SD card. Don't know which one because I tried all them.
I for one will be glade when all the developers get on the same page. Things will get better, it's just a new phone and the community is still forming.
Guys, i was installing the CM 10 B7 and the BurstV2 tweak, before actually see there is a problem.. so then i need to reinstall the CM10 again, but fact is i don't have it on my sd anymore. How do i put it? The Mount option on the recovery doens't work, as i need the .zip files from the custom rom in there...
please help me.
Where do you put it last time? SD Card or Ext. SD card? There's actually no need of mounting.
If you put it in sdcard, then go to: CWM > Install ZIP from SDCard > Choose ZIP from SDCard
If you put it in external sdcard, then CWM > Install ZIP from SDCard > Choose ZIP from External SDCard
Then find it.
If you don't find it:
Boot normally, then go to your File Manager, then find your desired zip.
If you find it, then maybe there is a problem, try to move it somewhere in the sdcard/external_sd
If you don't, then the file is not there.

Hi,
i tried to flash a custom ROM and i found a tutorial which said to use "super wipe android revolution" so i put it in the sdcard like the .zip from the custom ROM.
I launched "choose zip from sdcard" and selected super wipe.zip, but after rebooting on recovery when i tried to apply the next file with "choose .zip from sdcard" it said to me that "no files found"!
When i reboot normally, there is the samsung LOGO but nothing else after 5-10 minutes....
Omg that script is erase all the data so why should i do this before flashing a new rom i can't understand why i can't do anything know execpt going on recovyer/ DL mode.
Can you please help me to find a solution like putting maybe the custom ROM on external SD card ?? is it possible or ?
Thanks a lot i'm very afraid of being in this situation...
No need to panic, you can either flash a stock rom from odin in download mode, or put a custom rom on your ext sd card. You will need to flash a decent recovery though for ext sd something like twrp, you can use odin to flash it.

I putted my backup on external sdcard, i'm triying this i hope it will work.
Otherwise i 'll try to put my ROM in external and try again.
Good! I just recover my system by putting the backup on my external sd card! Thanks a lot i'll try to put the .zip for flashing the rom now.
I had a complete disaster and lost everything. I have mounted the sd as usb storage and put a rom onto it but neither TWRP or CWm will see them .
Sideload fails in TWRP and every time I try to push i get an error telling me that /data/media/ is a directory ..please anyone got any ideas ? I cant RUU as im on H3g and there isnt a JB one released
Mount the sdcard, copy the rom.zip to the root of the sdcard. Reboot the recovery and install the rom.

Thanks but as I said in the post I had done that but TWRP and CWM would not see the ROM's. .
It turned out to be the file system on the sd card. I formatted it to fat32 and the recoveries then saw the ROM's .
Ah check. Well i had a similar issue a while back. Copied the rom and tried to install, also not visible. Rebooted the recovery once and that probably rescanned the sdcard
But good that its solved
I used the Marshmallow feature to merge the external SD card with the internal memory.
I decided to flash SuperSU but when I rebooted into TWRP I could only see the root directory and I'm not sure how to get to the internal storage. Looking at it in Solid Explorer it appears that the internal storage should be at:
/storage/emulated/0
but the storage folder doesn't seem to be in the root directory when I look at it in TWRP.
Any ideas?
Internal storage is mounted under /DATA and /SDCARD in TWRP.

Tested this on Marshmallow with the external sdcard mounted as internal storage, but it isn't mounted there.
Same here.
How to mount Internal storage or SDCard formatted as Internal storage in TWRP ?
it may have something to do with the new way of handling sd cards in marshmallow
(I know this thread is old but have seen the question asked many times but not solved).
Have been using sideload for the last month - thought there must be an easier way. There is!!
Access /data via a file manager (as root) and copy the zip to /data . You can then access it via recovery.

Don't mean to be a jackass... But, what zip file should I move to /data?
---------- Post added at 03:32 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:22 PM ----------
Wait, you mean whatever I wanna flash?
Yes, the CM rom zip, supersu zip or whatever it is you want to flash. Just remember to delete it after you've flashed it (or before you copy the next update there) so you don't fill up that partition.
Hey. If there is someone who can reply to this thread?
It seems there isn't any workaround yet to solve this problem
moving to /data works! thanks!
Wondering if TWRP will solve this file reading problem in the future. Also are there other folders that can be read in TWRP besides /data? Just wondering. Thanks.
hi guys,
i figured out this problem
1. reboot to your recovery (twrp)
2. click mount
3. enable mtp and click on usb (which is at the down left corner)
4. connect your device to your pc with a usb cable and load the files which you wanna flash .

that worked! thanks! after mounting the system and enabling MTP my computer could see both the internal storage and Micro SD as separate entities. I just put the zip file in the TWRP folder on my computer and I navigated into external_sd in TWRP on my phone to see the zip.

None of these solutions worked for me, I formatted sd as internal and cannot access it in recovery, and get error message using computer that file could not be copied.

What directory are you looking at in TWRP?

Turns out in recovery my phone was ONLY able to access internal storage and not the sd card which was formatted as internal storage.
To fix this I simply re formatted the sd card as external, unfortunately losing the data on the sd card.

What you described is normal.
When you activate adoptable storage the internal and external storage become combined. There is no separate external sd card as it's all treated as internal.
In recovery internal would have also been external storage.

Ummm, if I had root there would be no need to flash supersu. And without root, I can't flash SuperSU. Wonderful.
@ahmed rashid, thanks for pointing out that the device can be mounted via MTP when in recovery! That saved the day.
If u have rooted device & Su then the path of internal storage in recovery must have, Select data/media/get into internal storage files & folder
I'm using OS 5.0.2 with twrp 3.0.2, this method working fine for me check it & thanks me later
