Sorry if this is a stupid noob question but can someone tell me exactly if Nandroid Restore will recover these things:
Apps
Email accounts (Exchange) and all email/attachments
Settings
Call History
Text Messages
Picture Mail
I don't know why it's so hard to find this out but if you could help me out I would appreciate it. As I want to make my NAND fully unlocked but I don't want to have to lose everything as I'm on the road and don't want to redownload and setup on a 1x roaming network. Thanks in advance.
Yeah, nandroid is basically a system image. It keeps all your apps, settings and other information backed up exactly as it was when you made the backup.
Sorry, not that I don't believe you but can someone else confirm, as I said I don't want to get into a situation where I don't have the setup (since I'm not at home) where I can afford to do a restore.

what he said but feel free to not believe me also...
Thank you both!
lol I love peeps when they ask for so-called "second opinion" and they say "..not that I don't believe you" meaning, I don't believe you....haha j/k
Yeah nandroid backup/restore will basically put EVERYTHING back to where it was before, and not missing a single bit of it. It helped saves me lots of times because I flash all sorts of different ROMs from others to my own. I have a base ROM that I really like setup to where I like and nandroid backup, and restore when I want to get back to where I was in minutes. Loving DROID!
Two tools I can't live without: Nandroid and Titanium Backup.
Like vboyz103, I have a particular ROM fully configured and backed up via Nandroid. If I'm in the middle of playing around and have to run out the door, I can always nandroid restore that image and know I have a reliable phone to take with me. When I make that nandroid backup, I also do a backup with Titanium...
When I install a new ROM, the first thing I do is hit the market and download Titanium Backup. I run it and do a restore, and all my apps are then restored on to the new image, without having to go download them one-by-one. Once everything is back in place and I'm ready to start using it, I do another nandroid backup and save it as a "base" image of that particular ROM. If I screw it up, I can just nandroid restore that base image of that particular ROM.
That's my routine, I'm sure there are other methods that people prefer!
Didnt want to start a new thread just to ask another nandroid restore question.
Should you wipe data/dalvik before you nandroid restore?

No, when you do a nandroid restore, the caches are replaced as well.

So i've just rooted my mytouch slide (had a g1 running CM 6) however, i'm alittle hesitant to flash a custom rom mainly because I'm unsure of the degree of backup nandroid provides....maybe someone can clear it up - please answer only if you know for certain.
Running stock and rooted, if I do a nandroid backup - and decide to flash CM...then decide I want to go back to stock - Can I easily use the nandroid restore function? Will i get back everything? Will I get back stock apps such as swype? Honestly I would think the answers to my questions are "yes" but I really want to be certain.
Thanks in advance!

Wrong forum.
But yes, a nandroid backup will restore everything. Settings, applications, themes, emails, etc.
oops! thanks for the clarification! next time i'll try to post in the right area
Yup, think of nandroid taking a snapshot of what your phone currently has.
exxxcellent, sounds good enough for me! I always figured it would restore me back.....obviously thats the point, but i never had an issue with my G1 so i figured it didn't hurt to double check. Thanks for the help.

I was in the same situation, never had to use Nandroid until this phone.
is there an app or way to read the info from a nandroid backup to know which rom and kernel its using without flashing it first.
i have several, and have long forgotten which rom/kernel they were.
so i would like to be able to load them in some program and see what they are.
can this be done?

just back up existing one rename it to something
then restore the others to check them and rename/delete them
then when done nandroid back to current one
there isn't really a way to check them without doing that
Same here. After I make the nandroid backup, I rename it to whatever ROM it is.
yeah well i did that a few times then got away from it.
and now am stuck with some backups i would rather not flash,, then rename, then flash back to what i was on.
the android emulator might, i just dont know how to load them, guess i will maybe have to check with one of the dev's.
and just to clarify what these guys are saying, for those who don't know... they are renaming the folder that the backup files are in. //sdcard/nandroid/xxxxxxxx/ gets renamed to //sdcard/nandroid/9.4.10_stock_root_2.2/ or whatever your rom is called.
you do not, and never should rename the files in the backup folder.
Hey guys;
Essentially; if I do a nandroid backup before I flash a new rom, can I go back to stock by doing a nandroid restore?
Did a search but wanted to get a proper answer.
I have a n7105 with Vodafone software from Australia. There is no stock rom to download for this, and my main concern is keeping some sort of backup so that I can flash back to 'stock' if anything goes wrong and I need to do a warranty repair.
I have flashed many phones in the past but this is the first time I haven't been able to download the stock software.
If I root the phone, flash CWM, do a Nandroid, then flash a different rom, can I get back to my original software by loading my nandroid backup? Is that how nandroid works?
Thanks people; I really appreciate it.

Awesome! So, again to clarify, I can move from say, cm back to Vodafones 4.1.2 or whatever it is?
Also, I would probably want to move the actual backup image off my phone once its made, is that possible?

When you will restore your backup you will come back to your ROM (included settings) you had when you proceeded to this Nandroid.
You can move the backup but be careful: you will have to put back the folder in the same directory and name.

Yes look at you sdcard/clockworkmod folder after backup. You should not cut it. Copy it in anywhere and dont touch any of this file or you will get md5 error..
Any time you want to back just press the restore button ...
Now flash any rom..
Cheers
Hi guys, I just got a phone replacement and I was wondering if I could take a TWRP backup form my old phone and install it onto my new phone? And if that isn't ok, is a Titanium backup ok?
Twrp backup, I wouldn't. Titanium backup I've done plenty of times. It has the potential to go wrong as well so keep a backup of where you're at beforehand
I've done it several times on my nexus 5,never done it on the G3. No issues on Twrp, just make sure you don't restore the EFS...
Probably wouldnt reccomend a twrp recovery. Titanium backup is fine.
No to twrp.
AWESOME G3
Is it possible to open a nand on a computer and pull data from it? Like if i were to lose my phone, could i take a nand that's been backed up on my computer and pull the pictures off of it?

Nandroid doesn't back up anything on the sdcard, internal or external. It only backs up your rom and apps and system settings. So any files you downloaded, pictures/videos you took, will be gone if you lose your phone and didn't back it up yourself either to another computer or to the cloud.

Thanks for the help guys. I just did the Titanium backup and it all went well as far as i can tell. Still makes for an easy transition.
