Whatsapp on Nexus 7. Help? - Nexus 7 Themes and Apps

Hi, i know there's already a thread about this but i can't seem to get an answer..
I have the nexus 7 tablet but i do not have a smart phone to install whatsapp..
Do you have any idea to what i have to do??

i think you can install google voice and talkatone first, then use the number to install whatsapp, didnt try it yet but i think it should work
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium

if you have an rooted android phone it would be possible to back it up in titanium backup and then install it on nexus 7 which also should be rooted

The only way I've found to install Whatsapp on the N7 is to restore a Titanium Backup on it. Both your phone and your tab will need to be rooted though.
EDIT: Ah, I see that you don't have a Smartphone - not sure how you're gonna do it...

Try to download the APK from somewhere (google it) and then allow unknown sources and install it. Then I think it should be doable to put in the number of your phone and once you get the message copy the code in.
I am not sure if this is doable, since I haven't tried, but I think it's worth a shot.

Did you use Appguard to block Whatsapp seeing it's on a tablet?
---------- Post added at 06:59 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:39 PM ----------
Download the AppGuard .apk from http://www.backes-srt.de/produkte/srt-appguard/
Direct link to .apk http://hive.x-pire.net/appguard-mobile.apk
Now, with Whatsapp installed start AppGuard and select "Secure a new app" and then select Whatsapp. AppGuard will take you through three steps and secure the app. With that done, you now need to change Whatsapp's permissions in AppGuard - remove the setting for "Phone calls - read phone status and identity".
Whatsapp should now run ok.

That works, but it's verifying the number, says sending SMS to verify and just fails. Phone verification doesn't work either.

Hmm, I'm not sure what to do. This is from the Whatsapp webpage for people having problems with verification:
Please call +1 (650) 332-4931 from the phone number you are trying to sign up with. Our automated system will speak your code back to you. Another way you can complete verification of your number is by sending SMS to +44 7900 347295 from the mobile number you tried to register with for WhatsApp and type your email address ONLY inside of the SMS message. For example: [email protected] (our automated system will send you the code via email once we get your SMS) -- and to make it simple for you

The email thing might help, but the phone number seems to be dead. I'd pay money for the tablet version of the app, it's annoying when your phone is upstairs and you're downstairs you have to go and collect messages.

The solution (probably)
Here's a link of an installition guide for whatsapp on nexus 7 :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29234421&postcount=17
the author made everything pretty clear but some extra information wouldn't be bad.
Steps:
1:
To get the code you have to use a phone with whats app and as number you can simply use your landline(or also your mobile number).
2:
Then you let whatsapp call this number so you can note it.
3:
Then you open whatsapp on your nexus 7 and type in the number(the one which was used to create the code) and click ok to verify the number.
The app now wants to text a message or call the number but this wont work, but you already got your code from the previous step.
4:
To enter it you have to hit the 3 dots on the right bottom corner of your device. ( Were you usually open the settings )
A box should now appear and you can type in the code.
Voila,
your Nexus 7 is Whats App ready !!
EDIT: Mobile Numbers should work too but somehow i dont get the code on my iphone 3gs (stupid thing i wont some android )
it would be pretty interesting if i can use the same profile on 2 devices ( mobile number on iphone and nexus 7 )
Hope I could help someone took me some time to find out how step 4 works
I'm german so pls no complaining about my bad english skills
EDIT 2 :
Ok, to use the same account on two devices doesnt seem to work.

It does not work.

Found another way which is easy and worked for me!
Start by following this:
Install Whatsapp apk: http://www.whatsapp.com/android/current/WhatsApp.apk
Install Appguard - details here for the next few steps: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29234421&postcount=17
Now if you fail verification for both the SMS and Voice methods like I did, and if you don't have a smartphone, the following is an option.
You need: a pc, a mobile phone for texts (an ordinary mobile phone is fine).
1. Download and install Bluestacks on your PC
http://www.bluestacks.com
2. Select "Social" and install Whatsapp on your PC.
3. Input your mobile number. The SMS verification should work this time. Be patient, it can take 10 minutes.
4. Once you have your code go back to your Nexus 7 and input it.
It works!

Any luck?

KH3/KG3/KG6 E-Mail APK for device-administratorless Exchange access :)

Hey guys,
just thought i'd share this with you. For those who don't like corporate control.
This Email.apk should pretend to the exchange server that device administrator is active, while not really enabling it.
While configuring your Exchange account there will be a message that device administration will be enabled.. If you press OK you would normally be shown the permissions needed by the device admin and be prompted to confirm them. This screen won't be shown anymore. You can also check "Settings/Location & Security Settings/Select device administrators", which will show an empty list now.
Have fun.
EDIT: KH3 version added
EDIT2: For all those curious guys in here.. The patch is that easy actually.. I'm too lazy to make a diff so..
The file that needs to be changed is com/android/email/SecurityPolicy.smali:
You need to find this method signature and change the first boolean constant:
.method public isActive(Lcom/android/email/SecurityPolicy$PolicySetZ
.locals 12
.parameter "policies"
.prologue
const/4 v7, 0x0 <- just change this value to 0x1

That's it.
Fantastic thank you
But how do I push this on to my device? Tried to install via ASTRO but Email app already installed and can't reinstall over the top!
Any help appreciated!
You need to place it manually in /system/app after removing the existing Email.apk AND Email.odex. I have to look into making a CWM-package.. Until then you'd have to place it there manually using a mobile terminal app or ADB.

Unfortunatelly, doesn't seem to work.
I used the older 2.3.4 email.apk with bypassed security before this one, and it worked fine (replaced in root explorer in system/app/, no odex as I'm running Cognition 1.31).
Upon creating account, asks for security changes, I click Accept (or activate), it asks me to create a password. No way to choose "None" for security settings.
Email doesn't update, says error connecting to server due to security settings.
EDIT: FIXED. Weird though - when renaming Email.apk in Root Explorer to Email_Orig.apk, it kept the reference to it, and when setting up account, it didn't use the new Email.apk, but still used Email_Orig.apk (even after reboot).
Complete uninstall of Email.apk, reboot, copy new Email.apk, then setup the account - worked.
Worked for me using Root Explorer (moved stock apk and odex, copied new, rebooted, reconfigured Exchange account, done).
Thanks!
Yes.. You need to completely wipe Email.odex and Email.apk, place my file there and reboot. Or if it doesn't work out, better reboot twice (After deleting and after placing the file there)..

You may need to reconfigure your email accounts.. If you delete the apk in /system/app and reboot afterwards Android would possibly wipe the userdata for this app.. Not my fault
Thank you so much much for this awesome MOD. Its working flawlessly on VR2.3. Please keep this mod alive further. Its very useful.

[How to][Tip] Disable Data traffic and Download limit reminder on MIUI Roms

This is for those who are on unlimited data plan and annoyed by the download limit reminder on MIUI Roms.
I searched and researched and couldn't find recent information on how to disable that friendly reminder. But finally found it and thought I help save time for others.
Step 1: Open 'Download' (mine was in a folder called 'security center' after flashed)
Step 2: Make sure 'Download via WiFi only' option is unchecked or turnoff
Step 3: Hit menu and go to settings
Step 4: Make sure 'Data download prompt' is also unchecked or turnoff
That's it.

One of the main reasons I went back to PA was because of the mind numbing pop up every time I want to download something off of the internet and download or update an app in the play store.
Thanks Myowin, looks like I'm going to give miui another chance lol.

Need desperate help. Unlocking Huawei y6 pro (SLAL02)

After factory reset I'm stuck at google account screen which I don't remember since it wasn't my main google account.
After a lot of research I've tried the talkback->youtube but chrome or any browser doesn't open so I can't use it
Tried the gmail path but whole menu' doesn't show up, only account section and no options
Tried the keyboard "assist" but google search bar doesn't appear.
Tried to flash stock rom from sdcard but fails at 5%
Phone wasn't rooted and everything is stock
How do I get past google account screen? Is it as good as bricked?
UPDATE: I managed to get past FRP through the stock email app exploit! I cannot post links however due to forum restrictions.
In case anyone needs:
1. Follow guide with normal talkback->share link->email(select stock email app instead of Gmail)
1.1 Create a hotmail or whatever account on an other device.
2. Sign in, compose email, attach file from sd card (QuickShortcutMaker apk, you can google it)
3. Send email! you can send to random address
4. Go to outgoing, open sent email and open attached file and install
5. After install open and scroll down to "Huawei Home", open first option, then tap "try"
6. You now have access to whole phone, go to Settings->Accounts and delete all accounts
7. Go back to settings->backup&restore->Factory reset and confirm
8. Phone is now clean of FRP, enjoy!

Will anyone make a Google apps enabled rom for the Mate Xs?

I'm very interested in buying this phone, but not without google apps like Play, maps, etc. Is anyone planning on doing a rom for the Mate Xs?
Does not work (without Root), no way (Backup or any App). And root is NOT possible without Bootloader-UNlock.
It should be possible using this method.

No, using the other method with the backup; the link provided by jutley.
It looks like everything is installed correctly but I'm completely blocked by Play Protect. I've tried factory reset to get a new gsf id and registering that as well but no dice. Seems like the id registering just doesn't work?

english please
can one help us to how to install Google app shown in Spanish YouTube in details in English.
with needed files.
Thanks.
I can try to summarize the steps I think is needed after trying for a couple of days.
(Disclaimer: I haven't actually tried it from scratch but I'm pretty sure these are the only things needed)
(Start at 10. if you already have it working but want to get rid of the errors.)
First get the files from these videos:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3MfxLUNWJr0
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sEBrOwQP_0o
1. Put the files on a USB stick (Dunno if it is needed, it might be fine to put them on the phone directly)
- (!)The Huawei folder needs to be in the root.
- You'll have 4 important folders, Huawei, Google pack, fix and newfix.
2. Go to Settings/System & updates/Backup & restore/Data backup/External storage/USB storage/17 October 2019 and then press restore.
- Enter the password it asks for (a0000000)
- This will put 2 sketchy apps on your homescreen.
3. Install all apks in the Google pack folder.
4. Run the sketchy app with a purple G and press Activate when it asks you to. Then continue pressing the buttons (really see the video for this) and restart the phone when it fails with the first spinny thing.
- Once restarted you will be spammed with errors, ignore these for now (disable sound, they are super annoying)
5. Revoke the access and uninstall the sketchy apps. It's not needed but I wouldn't leave it enabled for a second longer than I need.
- Go to Settings/Security/More settings/Device administrators and set the G app to inactive.
- Uninstall the G app and the other one as well I assume.
6. Uninstall Google Services Framework.
- Settings/Apps/Apps - search for google and enable Show system processes in the right corner menu.
- I had issues with this on my phone that it would just freeze and restart when I tried it, the solution seemed to be to clear all its data and force stop the proccess until the force stop button stopped being active.
7. Go to the fix folder and install google account manager4.0.3.apk
8. Create your google sync accounts in Settings/Users & accounts/Add an account/Google.
- Follow the instructions as you would for logging in to google.
- (!) Add all the accounts you want to sync now, I can't seem to add them afterwards.
9. Go to the fix folder and install com.google.android.gsf_10-29_minAPI29(nodpi)_apkmirror.com.apk
- Restart and after that everything should work except for a lot of errors everywhere. At this point the fist video tells you to just disable the notifications but it doesn't help for example gmail and you have to do it for every new app you install so it is pretty annoying. The google sync also broke for me after restart.
10. Install the Device ID app from the app store (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=vtechnotm.com.deviceid&hl=en)
11. Uninstall Google Play services - same procedure as 6.
- To verify that you're on the right path the version you just uninstalled should have been version 19.2.75.
12. From the newfix folder install modagain1gsm.apk.
- This is the Google Play services version 19.4.20.
- Make sure the play store still opens, it might show an error but should preferably still show apps.
13. Reinstall Google Services Framework.
- First repeat step 6.
- Install the file in newfix Google Services Framework-com.google.android.gsf-29-v10.apk
14. Start the Device ID app and verify that you don't have any GSF ID.
15. Poke around in the play store until the Device ID shows a GFS ID, see the video.
- This step feels very unscientific and sometimes it took me forever...
- If it doesn't work make sure you have Google Play services version 19.4.20 installed.
- Don't reboot your phone, it should regenerate the ID just by poking around. I got it regenerated when rebooting but then it didn't work after that.
16. You got the ID generated! Uninstall Google Play services and install the file com.google.android.gms2.apk from the newfix folder.
- Verify that Google Play services is now version 20.12.14.
That's it! Everything should work after this.
I'm pretty confident you can skip some steps here, for example you could install Play services 19.4.20 from the newfix folder already at step 3 to avoid having to reinstall once. But I'm also super unsure why all this actually works so I'm scared to change the procedure
Feel free to suggest corrections!

Iqoo neo 3 rooting issue

I tried rooting this device but i found no way or guide even in Chinese known forums, if anyone knows how to root this phone i really need help
Im also interested in to this .In developer option you can turn on OEM unlocking / bootloader .So there must be way how root this phone .
Exactly, the oem option says, "allow the bootloader to be unlocked"
I also tried uninstalling some Chinese ballast from phone .And there is couple things . Do not uninstall oem messages app sms will not work with third party aps after uninstallation. Also after I deleted vivo shop and maybe couple more apps what I deleted through ADB shell .I can't install apk files (just google play works) and oem update stopped working .I hope in future we will have some development with root and clean Android. Its very good phone for money cheapest snapdragon 865 but still too new .
---------- Post added at 08:00 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:08 PM ----------
So issue with apk installation and update solved through ADB .
Do not disable this Apps
Vivo store com.bkk.appstore
Security com.iqoo.secure
Sdk com.vivo.sdkplugin
Vms com.vivo.vms
Messenger com.android.mms
Have you tried installing the new update through the recovery mode.
You can do so by going to the recovery mode if you don't know how just turn off you phone and press the volume up with the power button until you see recovery option then go to updates through the network. If it doesn't show up keep retrying until the full package shows up then install it. It will not delete any data from your phone.
Also I'm using third party messaging app i just changed the default messaging app from the settings.
Go to application and permissions then permission management then go to permission, scroll down to default app settings and change the default messaging app.
I tried update in recovery but it basically just update your system but all disabled apps through ADB are remaining disabled even after update. So I did well when I backed all package names what I disabled in ADB (you can install them back). The problem with messanger is when you disable oem messanger in ADB sms simply stop working. Even if your third party app is set like default will not receive sms. I just wanted to clean useless Chinese apps as much as possible but is necessary keep apps from my post above than everything works well.
I understand i tried to clean all the chinese bloatware also but I didn't want to disable them as they are useful sometimes, i think your only option now is to flush ur phone I'd suggest going ro baido search engine and use google chrome translator to search for a a tutorial on chinese web pages, i found a tutorial on how to flush the official software but you'll need to do a lot of translating with google translator
