I used an Incipio Feather for about a month, and over that time my phone became pitted and nicked (quite deep) on the back, and even left a rectangular imprint on my battery cover. The damage was caused by the case, and nothing else. I've not dropped my phone or anything, and treated it like my child. I emailed Incipio and told them this, and attached the same pictures I've attached here. They emailed me back...
Here is the email:
"Thank you for contacting us. We are very sorry to hear about your Galaxy Nexus damage. Unfortunately, our warranty does not cover any damage to the device itself and only covers damage to the Incipio product. If you would like, we’d be happy to send you an alternate style for the Galaxy Nexus, such as our NGP or SILICRYLIC, which gives slightly more protection to the device.
Please let us know how you would like to proceed."
Now I fully understand, and would even agree with them had the damage been caused by inadequate protection from the case (like me dropping it and it landing on an uncovered part of the phone). But the fact is, the damage to my phone was caused simply by using the case. It was not my fault, but the fault of an apparently faulty product.
Is there anything I can do?

Probably not because its not their responsibility to cover the phone as well and there's no guarantee that you didn't damage the phone yourself
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Looks like some dirt or sand got caught between the case and the phone. You are unlikely to get any satisfaction from incipio, so take the offer of a different case and sell it or something. You can get a new housing for the phone relatively cheap. Not sure if the Sprint one is available yet, though.

Actually I was worried that would happen, so I removed the case daily to clean it. There definitely was never dirt under there.
Seriously, just accept their offer, that's all u can get from them.
Also, I'm using the same case and never had any problems, sometimes dust gets underneath but that doesn't cause any scratches.

i've had my feather for about 3 weeks and loved it, but I took a ride on my motorcycle last night and presumably the phone was pressed up hard to my leg while in my pocket. some kind of stress that it went through cracked the part under the speakerphone hole - i had never dropped it before. so beware, that part of the case is a little weak.
luckily, incipio has an amazing warranty policy and will be sending me a replacement.
Similar thing happened to me. How did you go about the warranty process?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Hmm... I was planning on picking one up but maybe I'll just pick up one of those replacement battery covers.
Same here. I still like the case though. I went through like 4 of them under warranty when I had a Nexus One.
the case doesnt seem very durable, has anyone dropped their phone with this case?
Mine cracked by the volume rocker. They are quite brittle. Even with the good warranty policy, I'm going to look for a different case.
Mine broke in the same place. Never dropped it.
I've yet to try to warranty it though. I just put a little super glue there and it's good as new.
I always keep my phone in either a speck or otterbox, and when I go to sell it a year later since it looks brandnew I'll make more money off than what I bought the phone for which is why I wont use any of those slim cases

Wow, mine broke exactly on the same spot. I never dropped it..
The spot it is breaking in looks like the place its broken of the mold at the factory. Case feels a little rough at that part.

meh ----- not a big deal as long as the atrix doesnt break.
i had the same case until i dropped it of the table and the case dropped and shot off and chipped the corner of the atrix
well days later the case just broke
i paid 30 for it and it just sucks
i just tossed it and got a tpu case off of amazon and i love it and have already dropped it and nothing happened

should have kept it. i just got a replacement for free, all i sent in was a picture of the damage and my order number. it was almost instantaneous and they didn't ask for it back. i also was able to order the new red color instead even if you didn't want it anymore, you could have just sold the replacement.
I was debating whether to get an otterbox case (commuter or impact) or the incipio feather, and I ended up getting the otterbox. It's a lot more durable. I feel like the feather is more decorative then useful...
Mine broke just from removing it from the phone maybe 10 times since I got it....the rubber starts to come off too close to the fingerprint reader and the edges of the case. I really like the lightweight design. Otterbox is too bulky.....I have the Speck case and that is already too much bulk for me.

I got mine from radioshack and it cracked in the same place as the creator of this thread. Is it possible to get a replacement on it if i didn't get it online though? I see u mentioned an order number =/ So now im starting to scratch my head and getting ready to cross my fingers.... Its a nice case and the thinnest one so i wouldn't mind getting a replacement considering it was $24. I have never dropped my phone with it in the case, but somehow it just snapped while it was in my pocket

Of course you can still get a warranty replacement from Incipio if you bought from RadioShack. I would call Incipio @ 800.733.0088 (US Toll Free) or email them @ [email protected] to find out about a replacement (info taken directly off Incipio's Website).
If you are within 30days of buying it from RadioShack, I would try to see if RS would exchange it for you in store- to avoid shipping and wait time.
you can also talk to online support and they will give you the proper steps. if you have a receipt of the purchase i think it'd be fine; luckily for me since it's online they didn't ask me to send it in, i don't know how that would work out for ones bought from vendors.
anyway, here's the new red one they sent me. the color is amazing; it looks completely different (maroon -> brilliant red) depending on the lighting and angle.

Slipped out of my hands taking it out of my leather holster. The phone fell down face first from about 3 feet high. It made a loud "pop" sound when it hit the floor.
I think it's possible the case made a suction cup type of effect so there was no place for the shock to go which ended up cracking my screen -_-
I probably won't be buying any more cheap $3 cases, but then again this was probably my fault for dropping it in the first place and I'm just trying to find an excuse not to take the blame... lmao
Sorry to hear that...it can (and does) happen to anyone. Try the Otterbox Commuter for your next phone. You can buy replacement screens on Ebay, but you may be better off selling the phone for parts.
Lol... I HAVE the Commuter for the Atrix. I just decided not to use it today because I felt like having less bulk for Mother's Day brunch. LMAO
I've got a couple options so I'm not even worried.
I can get it fixed for about $50 or file an insurance claim for $125. I was wondering though, if anyone knows if they force you into shipping the broken phone back through asurion?
Dropping any phone on its face is going to cause it to shatter probably the only thing that would have saved you is the defender
Have to say though... that's one impressive looking crack. I'm not entirely sure about the whole suction-cup-y thing... seeing as that pocket of air would have been so tiny it would have hardly been an issue.... but that's probably the issue right there. very small lip means that the phone probably still either came in direct contact with the ground.... or just the edge of the case smaking the ground somehow cracked the screen. It's just odd to see it crack quite like that.

BUUUUUUUUUUUT... I did slam it in the Defender for the time being. I dropped it a couple times flipping it into the air and failing to catch. The cracks aren't getting any worse from what I can tell. =D
I bought this case with my phone the day it came out because I wanted protection immediately. It was the only case available so I got it. I've taken care of my phone diligently and the only scratches it has are from the stupid sprint carbon fiber case. Is there any way to get any compensation from sprint for buying this stupid case or am I just stupid or both?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
which carbon case do you have? I have the black carbon one with the kickstand and no scratches. Also there is no way that sprint will compensate you.
I have the one that schnergun has as well and I got it the day my phone came as well. So far the only scratch I have on the phone is from a drop (before I put the case on it) other then that it's been very nice.
And as above I really doubt Sprint is going to do anything about it. It's wear and tear as they will see it.

Yup... and I'm not one of those people. I have no issues with this case. Is OP taking it on and off too much? How would one see the scratches without doing so? Sounds like it IS wear and tear...
TPU Scratches
I just got the carbon fiber/kickstand case yesterday. But my TPU case I've used for the last two months has scratched the crap out of my GS2 edges. I miss the chrome edge and rubbery back of my OG Epic. Wish they would've used that on this phone.

Of course I'm taking it off from time to time. I do it to clean the damn phone. I know the scratches are from the case because there are 5 perfectly straight lines across the side of the phone. I'm pretty sure it happens when removing the case. I am now using the phone with no case because at least if I take care of the phone it won't get scratches. Maybe the cases aren't all built the same and i got a badly made one.
I also don't think my phone should get scratches for taking a case off too much. It's a damn case. It's supposed to protect the phone not scratch it if I decide to remove it as many times as I want.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
I've had this case since I bought my phone, and I remove it multiple times a day (I have the desktop charger at work), there isn't a single scratch anywhere on my phone and the case is a nice, snug fit. Maybe you just got a bad case.
That's what I'm thinking.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
At best, the store will exchange it for another of the same case, maybe they'll look at letting you switch it for a different case of equal value or have you pay the difference for a higher value case. You can always just ask the store.
As far as compensation, you probably won't find anyone that can see the scratches as anything to compensate for. (What compensation do you expect? Are you looking for a bill credit or a new phone?) It's wear and tear, and unless it affects the functionality of the phone, they're not going to do anything about it.
I just use a skin on mine, since I use the car and desk docks, but I also don't drop my phone. Ever. So I don't worry about needing some kind of case for it.

Have you tried this one? http://www.tridenteer.com/products/Aegis-Case-for-Samsung-Epic-Touch-4G-(Black).html
I'm still on my TPU, and the comment about the TPU scratching the phone is kinda scary. None on mine yet, but I'll keep an eye out. The TPU is a great case, I'd just like I need a little more protection. I drop phones a little more often than some of you guys do. Put an Aegis on the Evo 3D, and was very impressed. Not missing Otter at all,... Otter who? Still, I'd like to hear what other GS2 users of the Aegis are feeling about the case. Just can't seem to find any GS2/Aegis users right now.
Hey guys
Switched from an Evo 3D and an Evo 4g to Epic Touch and I have been using cheap hard cases on all my phones including my new Epic Touch baby and never have any problems with them. My phones always look band new and no scratches. I only pay $6 at my local swap meet
I have had the case and phone since new with wrist strap. I also have a really annoying nic on the upper left where the case grabs onto the phone....sucks as it stands out cause it makes the phone have chrome nic....it would be nice if sprint would cover/credit the case cost back as it damaged the phone. Instead of doing this, I went got invisible shield and ballistic case. I couldn't be happy.
I'm just taking it as a loss....
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
I initially got the case cause I really needed protection asap, (somewhat of an idiot occasionally). BAD IDEA.
The Pro(s): light weight, thin, kickstand
The Con(s): lightweight, flimsy, cheaply made, really expensive, minimal protection.
I have sense upgraded to the trident aegis and couldn't be more happy with it. I feel like it really almost wouldn't matter what I do to it, my phone will still be okay. Build quality and materials used on it are VERY pleasing. Significantly more protective, not just for drops, but dust and dirt as well. It has mesh over the microphone and speakerphone holes so dust doesn't get in and has silicon flaps to protect the audio out and micro usb port. Buttons are very easy to use as well (no fumbling with the slick samsung volume and power buttons).
Hope that helps. Link to aegis case is in a comment above mine.

If it makes anyone feel better, I smash my Epic Touch hard against a table repeatedly as a sales tactic, after asking if the customer would dare do that to their iPhone.
I do not have a case on my ET (just a screen protector). No problems or dings on the corners yet from doing so, so hopefully that gives everyone some cause to worry less. This said, I do this because if I really messed up my phone, I could just get a replacement, so I really wouldn't advise phone smashing on a regular basis...
And with some/all due respect to the OP and some others, I would take delight in laughing at you, along with every other employee. Would you demand a new laptop from Dell because it got a scratch on it from the Dell case you purchased with your computer? If you did, do you think they would ship one right out to you?
Honestly, I could see your complaint if the case somehow scratched the screen of the device, but the sides or back? How does this affect the functionality of your device? Do you not pull as many chicks by showing them your shiny, pretty phone?
Miraculously from 4 ft onto concrete, and I have a chip in the top of the casing, nothing more. Anyone that deals with plastics or such like, any idea if there is something I can use to fill it? Not sure if I wanna call insurance on it as it is a minor chip, but what has been see cannot be unseen so would be willing to give it a go. I'm sure model shops would have something, but before I track one down does anyone have any ideas?

Tis only a minor flesh wound, I wouldn't worry about it. After my experience with the Otterbox Defenseless messing up my screen I stopped caring. If you're obsessive over it and have the insurance, return it. Personally though, I wouldn't until something really bad happened. Instead, I would look at this as an opportunity to see how much more abuse it could take before I really needed to make an insurance claim.

I normally don't buy cases for my phones, but the galaxy nexus is so damn slippery that I just had to. Get a black hard silicon case. It will cover up your ding and keeps the slick look. I have dropped mine so many times and there is ZERO physical damage to the phone.
Yeah I never really put a case on my phones either, but this is the first time I decided to do so. I have a TPU case on it and it adds a little bulk, but I don't mind. I always have an invisibleshield on my phones though.

The bulk is pretty negligible with a phone that is already so big. I wish I put a screen protector on mine. All of my friends/family members with gorilla glass have pristine and beautiful screens after nearly a year or two of use with no screen protector.
Sadly, the galaxy nexus doesn't have gorilla glass and I have at least 4 scratches. Yeah, it sucks but oh well. Still an AMAZING phone and user experience.
If it's where I think it is, going by your description, you can just replace the housing.
Here's a video showing you how:
The housing is easy to find on eBay!

I don't know why everyone here is TPU, Seidio, etc case fans...they actually cause more scratches!!
Why is this? Dirt and grime get in between the case and phone and everytime you hold your phone, it presses on the dirt/grime into the phone causes many microscratches.....
So why even put a case on? If you're going to get scratches on it, might as well leave the sides and back uncovered, right?
I understand that they are better at absorbring impacts, but it's going to do nothing to prevent micro scratches from happening

Ok, as I said I take the case off daily and there is no "dirt or grime" on the phone or case at all. Don't know where you are using your phone the dump or something? Anyway its your choice but I think having more screen protection for dropping the phone is more important than some "micro scratches" that may or may not even get on the phone. Also you will get the same effect just putting it in your pocket or on the desk with no case so I don't see your argument.

sliding seidio cases on and off can also cause scratches....hapened with my OG evo
and no i dont take it to the dump...I just stick it in random pockets usually.
Screen protectors are also pointless....I haven't scratched any of my last 4 smartphones every since gorilla glass came out
In fact, when I did have a screen protector on my evo, it got so scratched, it ruined the functionality
I find it funny when people point out scratches on their screen protector and act like that scratch still would have been there without it....those screen protectors are soft compared to glass...and glass is 6.5 on the MOHS scale while metal is around 5.5

I think the charger fits with my case but I take it off just to allow more ventilation as the battery pack can get warmer when charging. I also had an issue on my old phone where the case would dye into the backing on the phone but that wouldn't really be an issue with this phone since I have the blue model not the white one.
This thread is funny IMO
Cases are great for their intended use, and I've never had a single scratch result from using one.
Have no clue why the OP seems so emotional about it..

I bought the Samsung Flipcover for mine (blue) with the express reason to "cover" the screen while it roams around my pocket and even then there's dust and stuff on it. No scratches mind you.
I'm of the opinion that protection is a must for people and if it's more important than scratches, then that be it. For others, like me, I want my device safe and sound, scratch free and not broken from any falls.
Bottom line, if I get too nerveous with this Flipcover on, then I'll buy a better cover to protect my phone from falls. I'll get the one with the best reviews, whatever that is. Cheap is not the answer (it's nice if possible not not required), I don't mind paying.
With these high-end phones they need PROTECTION. I don't care if you never dropped your phone or broke a phone, accidents will happen. This happened to me on my previous phone and I learned my lesson for it.
Currently have a Clear Belkin TPU case and Zagg Invisible Shield HD. Awaiting my Otterbox Defender for this bad boy.

I disagree....if you are careful with your phone, you should be ok
I'm not going to spend another $30 to make my phone twice as thick and fat...esp with sexy slim devices
The way I figure, I saved at least $150 from not buying cases, screen protectors, etc in the last 4 years. Plus I saved $10 a month for the last 4 years from insurance..so that is $480, plus the $100 or so deductible
this totals out to a possible $730 in savings...much more than I need to buy a brand new SGSIII for $550 in case i break mine....
I rather take all that money and put it in a CD or mutual fund and you'll come out on top eventually
Anyways, here are some examples of a case using seidio active X case....it did more harm than good!!

i would make a point not to drop my phone in beach sand.
I clean my cases weekely and remove the battery cover and blown out with compressed air. If you value your device, I would reccomend the same. WEEKLY.

that is not how grime gets in beteen...I have never been to a beach...i dont like it and I already have enough of a tan
However, even cleaning it weekly won't prevent the "sandpaper" effect...what if you clean it on monday..then get junk in it on tuesday? that is 6 days worth of sandpaper like friction going on...not worth it in my opinion

Well, I just have a simple tpu case from best buy that came in a 2-pack for $25. There is no way it has the ability to do anything close to the phone even if you cut up the case and intentionally tried to scratch the phone.

Because I don't give a crap about scratches to the body of the phone. That's why. My primary concerns are keeping the screen from being scratched when laid face-down on a surface, and to help a bit with shock when dropped.

I think you missed the whole point of the OP.....it is not the case itself that scratches the phone...it is the grime and dirt that gets in between the case and phone that causes the scratches

I can understand that! That is def a plus!
but instead of a TPU case, you might as well get a "bumper" type of case...there is no reason to protect the back of the phone since it can be easily replaced for $10
