I just installed CM7.2 v1.6 because I heard its very stable and have good battery life. However, with light usage, I only get 6 hours of battery life (I used to get at least 15 hrs with the same type of usage with my old incredible 1 using OMGB rom). I checked the battery history. Apparently, my screen has been draining battery DESPITE being off. Do you guys have a solution for this? Is it my kernel?
It very well could be. You are running stock kernal?

My guess is it very well could be the kernel... but there is the possibility its the ROM.... I know with most ROMs I have tried I lose hours off my battery with them no matter what kernel I use.... try a different kernel but if it is still short I would suggest a different ROM.

I used that kernel & didn't get good battery life either. I would try aeros v9 & see if that helps. I would wipe cache & dalvic cache & then let your phone drain completely. Afterwards, I would charge it fully & you should get at least a day & half

Sweet. How many hours do you get with 3G on with minimal usage?
It's important to check, adjust & optimize your widget settings, and APPS running in the background, i.e. News & Weather, Mail & Gmail (push, updated every xx minutes,) timeout for screens (30 sec. vs. 2 minute) - along with Friendstream/Facebook & Twitter that are constant "on" - even GPS updates, as all these will "wake" up the phone, switch on 3G signal or WiFi radio, and discharge/drain the battery.
With very conservative and minimal data settings, wife's DI2 is running Skyraider's Zeus V1.3 custom Rom, #79 kernel & .312 radio, and getting as much as 5 days (100+ hours) of standby time with short voice calls, no web browsing or SMS/MMS usage.
Running Sense 2.1/3.0 custom roms, my results are worst, but typically 40 to 60, maybe 70 hours usage - with CM7 and CM9 unoffical roms, 30 to 50 hours are typical for me - the newer roms are power hungry - 20 to 40 hours running 4.x.x.x on my DI2, running modest OC (1.2 Ghz, SmartassV2 governor) with .312 radio and #21 kernel, or, Aero's 10.5 or 12 kernel.
Individual results will and do vary - generalization should be noted simply as such ...

I was just wondering what rom has the best battery life?
If u guys had some user experiences or statistics, it would be great to hear them out.
The best battery life I've had so far is with AR3.3.
How bout u?
I got the best battery life with coredroid v3.3 and lee's kernel v2.2.8.
2-4 mA in standby.
And it's by far the best combination when listening to music. It drains about 60-70mA whilst other roms drain 80-120mA
Tapatalked with Tapatalk from my Desire HD using Tapatalk.
from the different roms i've tried it's a close call between cordroid v3.3 and leedroid 2.2.2/3
What Rom to Use
I agree with Coredroid being a good stable rom. Be sure to get a good radio to. Use currentWidget to find your battery drain after radio switch.
I use radio: Radio_12.35d.60.140fU_26.08.03.07_M_Test
Tested the: Radio_12.48.60.23U_26.08.04.07_M3 but GPS did not get a fix after 15 minutes. b.t.w. Radio_12.48.60.23U_26.08.04.07_M3 is from HTC Desire S T-mobile.
Rom: CoreDroid_Desire_HD_GB_2.3.3_V4.9_Stock_Release
Rom: Restored original bootanmation (don't like the CDroid animation)
Radio: 12.35d.60.140fP_26.08.03.07_M on T-Mobile
Thanks for the responses. I'm currently using Android Revolution 3.3 with Lee's kernel 2.2.9 and the battery drain is 180-570mA when im using the phone (internet, calls etc, i dont even play games) and 3-40mA in standby. What is the matter, what should I do?
PS. No coredroid, I dislike the theme..
EDIT: And yeah, I do have the right radio for the ROM.
The battery drain while using seems normal. Its due to the DHD's 4.3" screen. It eats the battery like the cookie monster his cookies
40mA peaks are normal if they don't accur too often. How much peaks do you have over night? Try Battery Monitor Widget to monitor everything related to your battery.
And by the way there is no right radio for a rom. It depends on your location and your provider. Lee's recommended radios caused a high battery drain for me. Flashed another radio which wasn't recommended and the battery drain was gone
PS.: if you don't like CoreDroid's theme you can flash any other theme you want over it

Doesn't the posts above answer your question?
LeeDroid gave me good battery life but I've switched to CM7 now and with wifi and gps on battery drain is only around 4-5mA in standby and plus playing music drain is around 60mA. This is the best battery usage I've experienced so far.
I think all Roms with Sense habe a good battery Performance. At the Moment i'm using ultimate Droid ans so i have now 85% that means 15% in more then 3 houres..

How's the battery drain when you're on a call? I'm using Revolution and it does pretty good when I'm doing anything BUT on call (between 40 mA to 300mA for browsing, emails, etc) but once I start making phone calls it jumps to 600mA+ somehow.

Not all the sense ROMs. Revolution HD is really dramatic(Yes, with the same radio).

That's what I though until I flashed it and messed around with it. Now running ADW EX launcher and screen density set to 180 is beauty.
Now I realize how ugly Sense really was lol.
I currently have Android Revolution HD 3.5 with Radio 12.35d.60.140f_26.06.03.24_M2. In my eyes the battery performance pretty good and better than that found in earlier versions of this custom rom (3.3 & 3.2) and way better than stock.
Leaving the "what is causing the power drain" aside, one item that might be worth looking into are some CPU management add-ons such as:
SetCPU (small charge)
No Frills CPU Control (free)
These will manage your CPU power and your settings will persist between reboots. I actually use No Frills (and overclock to 1.2Ghz), but I believe that setCPU allows you to select CPU profiles so this may allow you to stretch the battery life when the phone is idle.
Just a thought....hope you find this useful.
When I am running any sense rom 2.2 or 2.3 running sense 2 -3 my battery life is fine and last me through out the day but any single AOSP rom i flash CM7 7.1 Stable or any other veriation with stock or custom kernal my battery life sucks. I have a 3700 battery and ran CM7 with Tiamat 4.0.6 and i unplugged from a 100% charge and under a minute I watched it drop 3% I tried setting the govnor to save battery even though I wanted speed, I wanted to see if that would help and still no change. It seems I cant run any non-sense roms. What am I doing wrong? this has been driving me nuts for a few months now and i cant figure it out. please help!
i was just using decks 1.2 with tiamat 4.0.6 and battery life was awwwful. i would maybe try going back to like tiamat 3.3.7 or something where i was able to push 25+ hours on decks.
Try tiamat 3.3.7 SBC and vipermod scripts...I have a 2600mah battery and I get at least a day& a half..also try seidio batteries

The problem is not with the kernel Im using though. I don't think. On sense Im using the HDMwIn Kernel and it works great. But I can use the stock CM7 Kernel and still have crappy battery life. I have my stock battery still and that works fine too so I know its not my battery that is the issue.
The steps I have taken when running CM7:
RA Recovery
Wipe All
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvik-Cache
Wipe Data
Wipe Boot
Wipe System
Wipe Android Secure
Wipe SDEXT
Wipe Battery Stats
Wipe Rotate
Wipe All (again)
Power Off and then Pull Battery
RA Recovery
Wipe All
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvik-Cache
Wipe All
Flash CM7.1
Reboot and fully load into OS
RA Recovery
Flash GAPPS
Reboot and fully load OS
Setup my system and played around for a bit. Made a call, and a few text and then started to customize the look. Saw that the battery was draining slightly fast.
RA Recovery
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvik-Cache
Flash Tiamat 4.0.6
Reboot and load OS
CM Settings to set governor to Conservative
Installed SetCPU and set it for battery life
Went to sleep, woke up with 100% charge and within 1 minute it had dropped 3%.
I thought after it had drained a little maybe it would even out but after a half day at work I was down to 15% battery when I normally get to 40% after heavy use on my Sense rom.

I was running decks 1.3b with the older tiamat kernel suggested.
I went and did a nandroid and installed the synergy + godmode rom and it works great with battery life. I just want to figure out why any combo of AOSP rom I run just kills the battery.
I noticed that as well. I was Rom shopping a week ago and ran 4 different roms. 2 aosp, miui and cm7 then 2 sense, kingdom roms. On aosp, my battery would be dead after i got out of work after Pandora for 5 hours. I was running the newest tiamat. Sense leaves me with about 27% depending if I skip a lot of songs which is enough to get me home. I just flashed a new sense kernel, so definitely awaiting to see how battery life acts when I decide to Pandora up at work. Not sure why sense lasts longer than aosp, just adding my personal experience.

Thats almost just like whats going on with mine. I would like to though. i have a really nice minimalistic looking theme that i did, but just cant justify running it for 5 hours and then having to charge my phone again.

search around for suggestions. to start off control data usage, sync control, use auto brightness, turn toggles off you don't need uninstall or freeze apps especially those that run in background for no reason that fail to cache. use a different kernel. do some undervolting. overclock and underclock when necessary.use tasker to setup screen off/on profiles for different min/max frequency ranges and governor selection, use apps to monitor usage such as drain guard and cpu spy. check apps that hog too much unwanted usage. the list goes on. if you do your research you could save yourself 70% of battery usage. using tasker alone saved me around 30%. for example my phone is fully charged before bed,I sleep about 6-8 hours while listening to music and I have about 80% once I'm awake.nothing on besides the phone's cellular radio,no gps,no data on,no 3g,no wifi, etc. not even airplane mode so sms isn't queued all night. tasker can also auto turn off gps once gps based apps are killed so it's not always on,plenty of threads on battery saving tips, majority aren't all device specific so they're universal tips

agreed rooting won't do anything for your phone unless you put it to good use (uninstalling bloat apps, loading a custom more battery and performance efficient kernel, same with a better ROM, as well as countless performance/battery mods)
There are so many ways to improve performance and battery life on your phone with root, but you have to actually apply them to your phone.

Rooting doesn't improve battery life. usually a custom kernel or rom will improve battery life. It all depends what you are running in the background. With Nil's Gingersense 3.5 (2.2) and tiny's latest kernel I am getting unbelievable battery life. This is in part to how well both of these things work together along with the removal of all the bloatware. I have found that if you run Yahoo IM, it tends to kill your battery faster as well. Make sure to set most of your sync options to manual or every few hours as well. It won't impact your gmail or gtalk settings.
I understood that just rooting wouldn't change a thing. I just miss worded it lol. I was already running cm7 and incredikernel. I just hadn't realized I had 2 apps running in the background killing my battery
just flashed tinys last night and waiting to see how it works. I have two batteries and one lasts much better than the other and they have both been treated the same as far as charging and discharging....
I have flashed the franco's kernel with viperx's rom now.
And I find that my phone's battery life does not improve mostly. As I was using ICE COLD JELLY AOKP's rom and with the ncx's kernel before, I find that the battery only fall 1% within 5 min's, but now after i flashed faux's kernel, it falls 1% every minutes!! Therefore, i came back to AOKP's rom and the ncx's kernel, but strangely , it falls 1% in 1~2 mins.. After that, whatever i used the other roms or kernels(such as i tried CM10 ,CM9 ,Android Revolution HD v9.4.1 (Sense 4.1) ), they also come with bad battery life..
One more thing make me confused.
I can't tweak the cpu or alter the governor, although i changed them by using setcpu or other similar apps, when i use cpu spy, I find that they do not change the governor or the mhz..
But when i use the franco Kernel updater, it works! What is the matter of that??
Well third party applications can have compatibility issues. Try flashing another kernel if your battery drains that much, or maybe its something you installed.

Sometimes a full wipe is helpful. However batteries seem to settle after a couple of charge cycles and that's what I would recommend before rushing to conclusions. Switching ROMs with the speed of light won't help you.

well generally twiz roms are more stable than aosp roms... so id stay in the TWiz sections... but thats all i can say
AOSP ROMs typically run the CPU harder. While TouchWiz ROMs use more RAM. Thus why AOSP ROMs typically, emphasis on the 'typically', run hotter than TouchWiz ROMs. There are ways around this. For example, messing with CPU governors and settings. I have found ktoonsez has kept my AOSP ROMs fairly cool, relative to the default. Heat also means battery drain. So you will find here that TouchWiz ROMs normally have better battery life. I highly recommend CleanBean 4.1. Very nice ROM. Complete, stable, very quick and snappy. While no sacrificing battery life, as I was able to squeeze out about 14-15 hours. Good luck

While I agree that AOSP ROMs use more CPU and TW use more RAM, for me AOSP had the best battery life. Espicially when I'm running ktoonsez kernel I get a good 3+ hours screen time and a total of 20 hours easily. While on a TW ROM running ktoonsez I get maybe 2 and a half hour screen time with a total of maybe 12-15 hours of total battery time. Also for me the only time my phone gets hot is when my phone is charging and I am using it constantly or I'm playing graphic driven games.

Must have missed that . At this point I would try a different Kernel. I suggest Ktoonsez Kernel.
If anyone is still having issues here.
Apps repeatedly doing wakelocks, Phone becoming hot while on standby or on charging indicates that theres a ton of background processes going while its charging.
And that includes weather updating, widgets with high refresh rate, auto-sync enabled automatically to turn on or off via file tweaks or utility applications.
I've been using CarbonRom and the only time it gets hot is when the phones at it's peak playing graphical games.
Mines is stock kernel but I have tweaked scripts that turn off my CPU's 2nd core while on standby,
and having SetCPU Auto clock the processor to be at its 2nd lowest to very lowest while screen off, and have
it clocked midranged 702-801 while screen on without doing any UV or OV.
I would also have force GPU Rendering checked and disable hardware overlays when im not using anything on the phone.
My battery life is 6-10 hours screen on web browsing, reading articles, watching movies / videos on netflix ~ Depends.
If I charged the battery and calibrate it and left it off standby without touching it, it can last around 3-4 day's depending on my
background wakelocks on messaging or any type of SMS or alerts recieved.
Also using Greenify to hibernate Ram hungry apps. and I'd usually freeze certain apps that aren't killable to save battery life.
