[Searching] Rom with good Battery Life ? - Samsung Galaxy W I8150

Hallo !
My battery Life is annoying me..! And I don't know what to do...
Im on Stock Rom XML8 atm. (ROOTED, CWM NOT installed). I was on Rebel Rom, ICS etc. before, and the battery life was awfull..!
I flashed stock Rom XLM8.. thaught Stock would have a better battery life time. But it does not..!
Today my wonder really ****** me off..! (sorry for the language..) So Im gonna tell you how I used my phone.
Today's use of my Wonder:
I wake up at 6 am.
My wonder wakes me up. At this time my wonder is at 100% Battery Charge! (It's charging while Im sleeping. about 6-8h)
I go to school, need about 20-30minutes, im listening to music on the way.
After that, I kinda don't use my phone, cause I have classes. I only check the time some times.
During the breaks I don't really use it, sometimes listening to music, check facebook/whatsapp sometimes etc.
But Im not playing hard games..! Not at all !
Well than I had to work on a Projekt, about 4 hours.
When I finished my work, I wanted to call my dad to pick me up, and the battery was at 6%..!
I mean, this isn't normal anymore ! How can it be ?
This is really annoying me !
Meanwhile I have like 6% battery, a good friend had 75% on his HTC Desire HD! And he was listening to music even more than me !
So I think it isn't normal !
What can I do ?
I only listened to music today ! All at all about 70 min. of listening to music ! Why is my battery drain so high ?
The weather isn't refreshing not at all. I do it manually.
And nothing is refreshing or working while it's in sleep mode..!
I just dont get it, and want to know what I can do about that...
Any Rom is working with great battery Life Time ?
I don't even care about the Design anymore..!
The battery is most important for me.
Somebody help..?
PS. I had even locked it down to 1GhZ..

First Check with CPU Spy if deep sleep works normally.
With yor usage profile, you should get about 80% of time spent in deep sleep.

Turn off 3G!

Because you changed rom's, what really helps is an app called battery calibration.
It actually works... it increased my battery time by 16 hours -YES- Sixteen hours.
The app is free on the android market.
-+- Also a good tip is to change you cpu to ondemand
-Min 122mhz
-Max 1ghz
Works fine for me
EDIT: actually it helped by 31 hours, just the battery calibration, ridiculously good.
-I don't know why changing ROM'S messes up my battery.

Well im always using exactly that setup!
But now I underclocked it to 100-200mhz if screen is locked.
So it wont do alot if its locked.
Going to sleep now; right after I tested the calibration app.
Gonna test my set up tomorrow; and I'll write here tomorrow.
I dont want to turn off 3G/H; cause than I wont receive msgs..! Thats one of the most important things for me..! Good tip; but not a possibility for me.

To do the calibration you need to calibrate the battery when its full.
So open the app with your charger still connected then press calibrate.
Tip- If you turn off your mobile data, it DOES NOT mean you do not receive any calls.
Your calling radio is on even though your data is off.
So if you turn off your 3g data it still means you can receive calls and text but your internet will not work until you turn it back on.

Turn off brightness. It saves battery drain too.

Anyone have tried battery calibration app on google play? Can anyone tell me how my volt that it show on your phone. I read the info on the google play and it say the normal volt should be 2+++ mV. My phone only show 4mV. Please help. Thanks !

I know, but I receive msgs. On whatsapp etc.
Through the Internet. Without 3G I won't receive them.
I underclocked to 100-200MhZ while screen is locked; 100-1000MhZ while screen is on.
Plus batterycalibration.
Lets see what will happen till this evening.
I'll write over here later

Same with my, on my Screen it sais 4mV too...
Different phones, different datas, volts etc.

Okey, after about 12 hours of Using it today, I want to report it..
First I want to show some Screenshots:
These are some Screenshots I made during the Time.
It got better for sure !
But is there a way to increase it a bit ..?
And one Question:
At the Sixth Screenshot, the battery went down, straight down ! Just like something is falling !
What the heck is that ? I've never seen something like that..!
I mean I've seen some guys, using they're phone about the same as me, and their battery is living 2 days and 5 hours.
My Battery is at 16% now. As you see at the Screenshot.
It's good, I like how it improved. I don't know if it's cause of the battery calibration, or the underclocking in the lockscreen.
Any Tips ?
Thank you all so far

Best option, change your rom. I would recommend either cow or mutant. Baterry lasted 2 days with occasional gaming and music
Sent from my GT-I8150

+1 for Cow!
I'm using Bionic Cow 2, and I can choose between: Snappier performance, same battery life, or; Same performance, longer battery life.
Of course, I'm using the wonderful "CPU Tuner" app to cap the frequency when screen off. And I make sure I'm using the "OnDemandX" governor.
That said, I also have to warn the OP that after 9 months of continuous usage, the battery starts to degrade. In my case, after 9 months, the battery is oh-so-awful, it needs to be charged 3-4 times per day! A quick trip to the service center and changing hands of 15 USD, got me a brand new battery that lasts me a full day.
Sent from my GT-I8150 using xda app-developers app

Thanks for that;
But one question;
Umm, are you using BionicCow 2 OC, or non OC?
Gonna flasg today when I get home; and report my battery again.
This time I set up JuiceDefender, too.
Let's see

Bionic Cow 2 Non-OC. I honestly find 1.4 GHz to be more than what I need, since I dislike racing games (or other 'twitchy' games requiring oodles of CPU power).

Battery Life - screen on time & battery conditioning

Firstly let me say I'm a long time lurker of XDA, I don't often post but rather keep quiet in the shadows. I've owned many handsets (Including the Inc. and TB, meaning I know bad battery life) and this has always been the site I go to for hacking and general information.
I don't expect definite, for-sure answers. I'm just seeking some advice on this, I absolutely love this phone and a Nexus on Verizon has always been my dream.
Secondly, I'm not posting here asking why my screen uses over 50% of the depletion on my charges, it is supposed to, I know that. I see many threads asking about that, which is why I waited to post not wanting to ask what has been already. But I am asking about my case specifically, and want input.
The main thing here is the amount of screen on time I am able to get.
I have had my GNex since Saturday afternoon, when I bought it the battery was dead and I fully charged it, the first day I used it mostly while plugged into AC, using 4G to install my apps. Since then (the last two days) I have tried depleting the charge almost entirely before charging, shying away from charging mid-depletion. I have tried using CDMA mostly (my area has just marginally good 4G), hoping I could stop some of the bleeding, but to no avail. I should also say I yesterday for the first time threw a custom ROM/Kernel on and that seemed to help marginally, though in truth I don't see that really changing the screen power consumption.
Please take a good look at both screenshots, as said I care nothing about the %.
(I am aware there is still 13% remaining on my charge, but even so this seems just crazy)
In the first screenshot at the bottom it's apparent this isn't a huge amount of screen on time.
I would kill to get 4 hours of screen on time with this thing, heck even in the area of 3, but it doesn't seem to be in the foreseeable future as it looks now. I can get out 2 at most to this point, and that is on almost entirely 3G/WiFi with light/moderate data usage.
I really need to ask. Do I just need patience to let this battery break in? I hear some say this can be a week-long thing, but shouldn't I see some increase by now?
If not, do I seek out a replacement battery or could this be an actual defect of the AMOLED drawing more than it should?
Thanks for your help!

There were quite a lot of awake time during screen off if I look your stat.
Thats your problem.
Too much sync?
Mine can get up to 3 hours and 45 minutes screen on time, span into 2 days stand by, gsm version.
Good point, looking into playing with sync in settings and JD.
But while that accounts for the drop during the 10hr overnight period (20% of battery/83% of time), I still feel the draw during screen on (80% of battery/17% of time) is just insane, even given the AMOLED.

Maybe its a rogue app running in the background making the battery drain real fast. Try wiping and running the phone normally without restoring your apps and see if that will improve. I'm having the same problem as you but with the GSM version. I'm looking through my apps though.

Here are some of the usual suspects:
- Facebook for Android app (uninstall it and replace it with Friendcaster and change the frequency of update t less often will do the trick)
- Accuweather widget or any other weather widgets
- Whatsapp
- Viber
- Latitude (google maps) - Login to Latitude and then ensure you select the option where it does not report your location and then sign out of Latitude.
Honestly, I have the GSM version and I've rarely gotten over 3 hours screen time. It's the screen. The battery life sucks, so you'll have to just ABC (always be charging), at the desk/sofa/car.
What I really want to ask is how you got the battery percentage inside the battery icon?!
This is also my exact problem. I can get great life if I don't touch the phone. Every time I use it for a few seconds, that's 2-3% gone. Browse the internet for 15 mins? Forget it, that's 10% gone at least.
I guess it's just the price to pay for such a gorgeous screen.

What is your total screen on time during those charges?
The only app in that list I really have to check is latitude. Doing so now.
I think op should stop playing wind up knight in his sleep. Case closed. Just kidding. But seriously, probably got something using up cpu cycles when using phone and not using it. If i dont play any games, i easily get 4 hours screen time, and got 5.25 over the weekend.

When I flashed this ROM I purposely left games out when setting it back up, the only one is Drop7 which I purposely make sure gets killed when I'm done. All apps which sync I have either at minimal amounts or off entirely.
Are you in north america? Try ugkk7 radio maybe? I am in the usa and xxkk6 was ok, but since i flashed ugkk7 reception is excellent. Oh wait. Youre cdma version. I dont know if the same applies. I do know radios designated UGxx# are north american.

you could install CPU SPY to see if your device is going in deepsleep, I had a problem that one app was using most of the time 350mhz and was using my battery very fast.
after that i found the app with battery monitor and disabled the app to see if the problem was solved, and that was the case, and i have now a battery life from more then a day instead of 5 hours.
I can get 3.5 hours of screen on time spread over ~36 hours or so on the GSM version.. if LTE is on I would assume around two hours of screen on time was normal for a Verizon version just because of how LTE is but it did look like your CPU was awake a lot as well so also it could be a rogue app, not necessarily a game.

Will give that a try. Like mentioned though almost none of that time was 4G enabled. (Maybe 10mins of that first green section.) The slope is just as steep.
In truth this was a fairly data-light charge.
Could it be the rogue app would actually sap battery only when the screen is on? Even though there is wake time where there shouldn't, that isn't the main area of drain.

[Q] Terrible battery life?

I'm using AOKP b40 with the kernel that it comes with and I'm getting terrible battery life. I flashed Popcorn Kernel and Franco kernel once, but I had the problem where GTA III and other games would not start. I tried flashing the /bin/sdcard file but that borked the entire sdcard from mounting in Android so I had to reflash everything through adb.
I looked at Better Battery stats, and my phone is deep sleeping and nothing is wakelocking for longer than 5 minutes. I'm down to 67% after 15 minutes of screen on time and being unplugged for 2 hours. Is it just a bad kernel and should I try something else or is it my habits of using my phone? I'd like to get a lot more battery life out of this. I'm using the Verizon Galaxy Nexus with LTE turned off, GPS off, and Bluetooth off.
Thanks!
While my battery life is not as bad as yours, I too suffer from poor battery life. I can never squeeze any more than 2 hours of display on time at 45% brightness. I have tried AOKP and Slim ICS but they both give me mediocre battery life. I heard there was a franconkernel release which was by far one of the best released (r158?) I'm beginning to think I have a faulty battery as some people manage to get 4 hours of display time with descent standby.

Five minutes of keep awake is a lot for two hours.
I'm looking at Kernel Wakelock in BetterBatteryStats and it says PowerManagerService for 49 minutes. I'm at 54% now. I've been playing cached music for about an hour now with Google Play. Is there any more information I can give to see if I can rectify this problem?
Power manager is just charging. I would say that is a real issue though it shouldn't have dropped that quickly. What governor what frequencies and under volted?

I'm going to try with FrancoKernel and getting the sdcard file working properly tonight and see if it makes a difference. I leave it on overnight, it deep sleeps, but i still lose a good 15% battery. It's a bit ridiculous.

I don't turn data off, I keep 3G on. I have Facebook that syncs every 4 hours. My Google account syncs (not sure if there are intervals set elsewhere), and weather every 6 hours. Nothing else syncs to my knowledge.
EDIT: I didn't see your questions about my CPU settings. 1200MHz max, 350MHz min, interactive governor. I haven't touched voltages.
Okay if you can't live without sync your battery will always drain. Also change your governor to on demand or lazy if available. I usually just refresh everything manually and I get over 15 hours and 5 hours of display. Over wifi and maybe 2.5 of display over my terrible 3G speeds.

Strange......I'm in aokp b40 with popcorn kernel and the aggressive governor and just got a whole hour of screen time and was only down to 75%. It must be in app or something. Whenever that happens to me I do a factory reset and then reflash a different rom.

Glad to help. Yeah interactive is a heavy battery drainer. I like it's fluidity but it's not worth the amount of battery it drains I remember seeing this one day and changed to on demand and haven't had any drain issues since.

More than likely a variant of on demand. I'm not too sure. I never ran stock
But yeah interactive give keeps the cpu awake more. My favorite govs thus far are on demand, lazy, and pegasusq.

Disappointed with One X

I received my One X yesterday and noticed some pretty big issues:
- The Battery on the phone is shocking, I agree that once you get a phone, you play on it more than usual, but after just 4 hours, my battery was at critical level
- The Lag is shocking for a quad-core phone - especially on apps. For example, when I downloaded Fatbooth on my One X and Desire, the desire was so smooth, moving the markers, scrolling the pictures, but one the One X there was an unbearable amount of lag Why is this? Something to do with the companion core?
Anyway, I was wondering if flashing a new ROM will siginificantly fix these issues, what ROM's out there can do that?
Many Thanks

1. It'll get better once you get to normal working use
2. Apps aren't written to properly utilise the quad core yet - they'll get better once the Devs pull their fingers out
Running any custom rom will fix your issues did for me I'm running tbalden - CM10 couldn't be happier. Try Viper 1.0.1 for a sense ROM or cm10 senseless. Both give awesome battery life I get 4hrs + screen time with total at least 15hrs.

Any ROM can help you, but if you dont want to root your HOX and you would like to stay on the stock ROM, download "Hidden settings" from google play, and in the newly created "Power saver settings" app, disable the the second option, which says "Reduce CPU speed", because if its turned on it means you'll have only 1 of the 4 cores working, and even that 1 core works on 1000mhz only. Oh you should use this "Hidden settings" stuff even if you move to other Sense-based ROM, because usually they will have these stock settings...I hope you understanded my post, my english isnt the best

Well Venom Rom increase battery life but it will still not be great but no lag and so many things u can do and choice on viper Rom venom its a great rom. The battery is just very horrible and not being able to swap it, is already criminal. There should be no phone that doesn't allow a swap of a battery.

The battery is just very horrible and not being able to swap it, is already criminal. There should be no phone that doesn't allow a swap of a battery.

Am I the only one who gets good battery life? I'm using tbalden's CM10 preview 10 and the battery life is great on this ROM.

Looks like you're not using any Internet, though...which will lead to better life. I have WiFi/3G on at all times and get 20hrs with an hour or so screen time
After a few calls with virgin mobile mi e is going back and there doing me a straight swap for the s3 because for some reason i cant use mobile data when on a call.... Tbh starting to not like the device anyway lol

hey m8 and do u think that this is normal battery life? i mean one hour of screentime? I do get about the same times with as u with likely having 3g on all the time, depends also on how heavy i use it, sometime i get 2 hours screentime too but thats really absolut maximum. I dont know whats wrong but i also get such terrible batterylife and i am really thinking to swap this ****y phone for an s3. i see others getting as said 4 hrs of screentime that lets me think there some peeople are having hardware issues with the battery or better said faulty batteries. What do u think?
I mean i paid about 500€ for this and i get a laggy and short-battery-life phone that ist performance wise worse then my old sensation or desire?? Also said this is already my second HOX as the first wont had to be replace due to heavy screen flickering, and now my second is having absolut terrible battery life. I am not anything then pleased anymore and i think i understand why htc is getting more and more into financial problems. My next phone will guaranted NOT be an HTC anymore -.-

with screen on and doing nothing the phone will probably use the 5th core to save energy, try to play a game , 1:20 hour of gaming and 2 hrs of screen on and you will finish your battery.
however i consider this a good battery life, with hd2, much slower and with smaller/less brighter screen i got probably less battery life

I view Facebook all the time, I watch videos on YouTube, I even watch series on the internet. And I have my WiFi on most of the time. The battery life is really great for me, the ROM that I'm using has a surprisingly good battery life.

It was noticeably better (I used to have it), with this phone I have to actually monitor my battery and worry about playing games etc, whereas on the S3, sometimes It would last me nearly 2 days!
I always have data on usually 3G and max I get is about 2 hours screen on time with around 13-14 hours before it dies.
Whether that's good or bad I don't know compared to others but you have to remember everyone's usage is different signal also plays a part on drain.
I have mine on auto brightness and exchange syncing, Gmail syncing, weather syncing and Facebook syncing.

[Q] Battery life?

This is my typical battery life I'm getting is this normal with stock jb Rom? Which of the sense roms have the best battery life? I know best way to find out is to try the different roms but I'm a college student and I really don't have time to check each out. Thanks in advance!

Battery life depends on how u use it and diferent roms have different mods, so the rom best for me may npt be best for u. I have found ordroid rom to give decent enough battery.

yeah I understand that. My question was that is battery life supposed to be like this on the OneX ? Idk what kind of battery life its supposed to be getting. The previous phone i came from was lg g2x which with jellybean custom rom ran out every 3 hrs I always had to take my spares with me to make it through the day. I don't do any heavy gaming on my hox just lite puzzle games. I listen to music, sometimes read an ebook, messaging, check emails, and occationally browsing to look something up.
Is undervolting/throttling the t3 possible?
u have the wifi on at all times
no wonder u are having battery issues
try to turn off wifi when not in use
without wifi and data on, I get 1-2% drop in battery overnight (more than 8 hours)
and on a daily basis, I get 1 and half days of battery - normal browsing, gaming, calling
that is after 2nd jellybean update - which aims to improve battery life and remove a few bugs

Try out ncx kernel by neocortex.. it did quite well for my battery life. Also install betterbatterystats app. Sometimes some rowdy app may not allow phone to go to deepsleep. It causes partial wakeblock . The app will allow to check if this is happening. If it is remove that app causing wakeblock

My HOX was a battery life tome on apx. two days (occasionally 2½ days) and I use it like this:
I go to school every weekday for 4-5 hours, which means that the phone is not used that much in this time. Occasional Whatsapp messages and texts and maybe a phonecall lasting a few minues. The wifi is off during this period of time.
After school, I use Facebook, Maps, Google Now, checks mails, chats on Whatsapp and texts on a regular basis. Maybe a few phone calls as well. In the late afternoon / early evening I get home - and Tasker turns on my wifi which lasts until next morning when I leave the house (Tasker automatically turns the wifi off) during the night Titanium Backs up the phone.
I only get apx. one day of battery life, if I start playing all those games you can get... So I more than often don't play games on my phone.
for me its Renovate awesome rom awesome battery awesome theming
Thanks for all the replys guys... I just experienced some wierd stuff again. I charged it over night and its saying its only 66 % charged... Looking at history it apparentlycharged and started drilaining like this: is this supposed to happen? This was on charge the whole time and it was pretty warm when I picked it up off my bed

How much screen time do you have with the picture you posted in the first post?
I have my wi fi on all the time too but I can easily get 20-24 hrs of battery with 3-3.5 hrs of screen time on stock.

Umm I meant how long was your screen lit up. If you have Jelly Bean you need an app like GSAM to check that
its known issue with HOXS battery life sucks on stock rom get custom rom I would rather ARHD great battery life and also greater performance than stock

How can i get more battery life?

I've been readimg on the forums that most guys get 7 hrs of on screen time woth their nexus 7 2013, tjere were even some guys that said 9 hrs. I bought my tablet about a month ago and ive only been able to get max 4,5 hours of on screen time(stock and custom rom) are they usimg a special kernel or something? I have installed elementalx kernel because it seemed the most popular one and battery life seems to be the same. What on screen time are you guys gettimg? And is this normal? I have wifi on only when chargimg and wifi scanning when off disabled. Im on cleanrom 2.6 with elementalX 2.3 kernel...

I have almost 9hrs, if playing 2 hours of them, and about 13hrs of internet (just internet, wifi). I'm on ElementalX kernel (1,944 cpu overclock, 490 gpu and 750 undervolt), and running CleanROM 2.6. Also I set kernel to run cool in Aroma and multicore power saving to 1 in TricksterMod.
Ok tnx i will try this you mean you set the kernel to run cool in kernel throtting?

I get 10-12 hours easily. Disable bluetooth, GPS, and turn syncing to 15 mins or more. Screen brightness can also go down, I find mine perfectly fine at less than a quarter of the way on the slider. Francisco franco's kernel(franco.kernel) is great if you have 4.3 for improving battery life.
I have all oh these turned off and im on 4.4.2.

I'm the same, 13.5 hours was my best screen on time so far.
Google now is a killer, uninstall its updates and clear its data and set the play store to manual updates. Also turn of NFC, location and Bluetooth if your not using them.

What is your brightness and do you have the wifi or LTE version?
On Wi-Fi with low brightness (25%) and no games I can get 8-9 hours screen time
If I play games... 6-7 hours
If you can't get more than 4-5 hours and you don't have LTE, your battery is probably defective

Before you go buying apps, find the root of the problem. Get BetterBatteryStats (must be rooted for kitkat) from the play store and see what is using your battery or keeping it from going to deep sleep.
Then look at ways to get even more battery life using apps like Greenify and others.
There are many guides on finding battery suckers
Here are a couple

Mine is mostly stock, only difference is I'm using Faux Kernel..
+1 on greenify! i do think it works but of course it 'cripples' the apps u hibernate
My android os drains the most of the battery...screen time is 33 min and android os had the cpu awake for 1 hr, also my processor speed stays @ max speed always even though i just surf the web amd do normal stuff not playing games etc

How many of those apps do you really need to constantly bug you when you're not using them anyway? I even greenify Facebook, basically because it's a memory hog.
I finally solved the problem, i flashed stock rom with factory images and installed elementalx kernel, needless to say now i am draining 3% for 30 min of on screen time and in the past it would have been over 10%
