I change to jokawild v3, and no flickering happens, the best i current used, search the development thread for more information.
I'm using CM9 RC2 with included kernel and everything seems to be working just fine, remember to wipe data, cache and dalvic cache before flashing a custom rom.

Sounds like a problem with the flex cable, people have had this happen to them and the fact that sliding it out only makes it more feasible that it is the flex cable.
EDIT- Here's a whole thread of people discussing the problem you're having http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1527498&highlight=flex
I've fix a lot of Xperia Plays and I can assure you that the problem is caused by a faulty flex cable. With the sliding mechanism, eventually the flex cable gets worn out and the signal for the screen gets garbled exactly like in that picture. The damage comes in varying degree so even if you see the screen sometimes it still means you have a problem with your flex cable. You can buy the individual flex cable cheaply on eBay but if you don't want to take your phone COMPLETELY apart (which is necessary to switch out the flex cable since it is behind the LCD), you can buy the front housing for a higher price which is MUCH easier to switch out since you only need to take off the backing, pop of the cable connector, separate the lower housing from the upper housing and switch in the new upper housing.
There's a very thorough picture guide somewhere in the forum for fixing any part of the Xperia Play.
Thank you guys! Just bought a complete replacement to my PLAY : Front. Back, touchpad. gamepad buttons all of that
Haha you can see that my PLAY looks a bit busted

hey...
lately i hve been noticing that the bottom part (while phone is held vertical) of my defy's touchscreen is not working like i can't select settings button in latest edition of camera360 or delete icon in quickpic..!
so can somebody test these apps with their defy.... nd suggest me how to test my touchscreen??
try touch screen test apps such as Multitouch visbile test, search in the Android market.
tried touch test....encountering problem there also
so i guess would have to take it for warranty!!
i guess... it could be a digitizer problem...
actually m still confused whether its a touchscreen problem or not bcoz the problematic part seems to be just 4mm above capacitive buttons!!
just tell me are u able to close android's standard notification panel using touch in stock froyo??
Are you resolve this problem?!
My Defy have this problem too...
Hey guys,
My Defy had the same problem a few weeks ago but on the left part of the screen caused by condensed water.
I sent it to the repairing company in Germany and the device got a new screen. Now it is working again .
The repairing was for free due to warranty.
I hope I could help and sorry for my bad English ;-)
is there any other way to fix that problem ? i had similar problem, part of the top of my touch screen doesn't respond. i'm little bit confused if this problem caused by condensed water. defy supposed to be a water resistant right?

water resistant but not water proof!
My defy spaz's out any time rain drops are on the screen or even if my finger is wet or overly sweaty
so i'ts true about digitizer ? there's no other way except to replace the digitizer with the new one ?
any software fix like using other ROM?

Hi all (",) i just have exactly é same problem as Mr. ohyeach (top portion only not responding). As my Defy warranty is over, other than hardware fix, could there be any other way to fix it, like using another custom ROM? Thank you.

As you can see there, half my screen has gone grey. Basically, here is what I know about it.
It's a hardware problem, not a software, because I have restored and flashed multiple ROMs since it happened
If it's the flex cable, it's not the usual issue because sliding the phone open does not help at all
It's not stuck pixels, because they usually don't show up in a pattern like that. And shaking my phone a bit can sometimes make me lose one row of pixels to the grey bars, or gain it back
If I figure any more out about it, I'll post it. But my main question is, what is the problem, and how can I fix it?
Bumpin'
obviously the screen is broke lol so the fix would be replace the screen

What tools am I going to need to do so? I'm going to replace the digitizer as well since it's shattered. (That happened in a separate incident)
Well, i dont really know, but beware, you'll need to unstick LCD from digitalizer (cuz its one piece, but 2in1).. But in most times when unsticking the dig from LCD, you can broke the dig too..

The digitizer and the LCD re two different parts of the phone and they are not sticked together. And, this is a flex cable issue. I've got two Plays here in front of me with almost the same issues. I just can't buy a new flex cable here in my country, 'cause all of them is sold out..

Actually, this isn't a flex cable problem. I know what that looks like, and it's not this. It also doesn't have any of the same symptoms.
Hello,
I've had my desire for almost a year now, and it broke yesterday... I was playing with my 6-year old nephews, and my desire fell out of my pocket. I didn't know that it was broken until I wanted to check my whatsapp a few hours later, and when I did, the screen was like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
... (lol the image is way too big)The touchscreen is working fine, I can turn it on and unlock it, I can even send an whatsapp, because I knew where the icon was. So what should I do with it? Repair it if it's possible? How much would that cost? I now have an iPhone 3gs as stand-in, should I keep that for as long as my contract lasts (1 year)? Or should I buy a new one? If so, which one would you advise me? A cheap one please, as I want to save for the PS4 later this year.
I'm running Sandvolds ICS for those that want to know...
Thanks!
There's a possibility that the screen cable is slightly disconnected. Try to disassemble the phone, and check the cable.
Thanks for the reply, I'll give it a try
Edit: Yeah I tried to take it apart, seems I've got no T5 screwdriver at home... Basically, if I would take it apart I would have not any idea what te screen cable is... Is it the LCD connecter? I do know quite a bit about software and that sort of stuff, but I'm a n00b at replacing hardware :S

I had the exact same screen on my Desire :silly:
That screen is broken and you need to replace it. I would recomend a professional to do it because I tried to do it myself and I destroyed my phone. And the other thing if you decide to go on with replacement - Desire had two different screen types and every type had one or two subtypes which are NOT compatible with each other so you need to know exactly what type of screen you have
Hello, one month ago my Xperia Play dropped down on floor and my digitizer broke, I didn't have problems with the touch. I was planning to replace the screen but after a reboot my screen gone wild.
I press the power button to power-on the device and after some seconds I get this screen. In 1~ minute the screen goes off and if I press the wake button this image comes back up, something like it booted and it asks the pin. That means my phone is working and the lcd is dead?
Thanks in advance.

It show colors, so i don't think it's broken lcd. It could be damaged lcd flex cable or slider flex cable. Try to open/close slider multiple times and see are there any changes on the screen.

In my case it worked, I changed "slider flex cable" and all OK.
But the touch screen does not work well in the last imaginary division of the screen below and on the left side.
Thank you.
It works, the screen will be replaced in this week. I have to change the flex cable too? Thanks for your help.

That "fuzzy screen" as they call it is surely caused by the flex cable (I mean the one which connects lcd and other things with MoBo), as it happened to me something like 2 months ago, and I had to replace that cable for the second time.
So you'd better change it, because even if you buy a new screen you won't be able to use it

Anyone have same problem or have any idea how I can solve it?
Hi,
I think it definitely bad connection between screen and motherboard:
badly installed (I mean someone who installed touched touchscreen connecting pins with fingers) ... or ... oxide on touchscreen connecting pins ... or ... possible water damaged used screen (seen one analog case).
It's any possibility to repair connection if screen it's OK?
Anyone know smoething about two types screens in G3?
It's similiar to that problem :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DI64Bcf8OiE
which it's solved by: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52414185&postcount=122
Maybe changing kernel/soft will solve problem?
Hi,
Actually about software side I dont believe. I hope this used one was exactly same, what you had before. If I remember right, then LG didnt made different screens for G3 different models.
I remember that G2 had many problems with white lines after drop or screen change. Fix was easy, to add metal tape at display connector to antenna. To understand better about what ia talk you must read this link.
Anyway, I sill think your problem is hardware problem if on start it works normally.

In g3 it's any chance to solve that with metal tape? In g3 motherboard it's different so maybe tape can't help. Tomorrow I'll try one more time check lcd plug.
