Is cm9 being abandoned - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

In favor of cm10

I'm pretty sure both will be worked on at the same time
Cm10 is far from a daily driver and cm9 isn't as far plus its easier

LOL. No. Not for this device and definitely not for any that are officially supported. CM10 isn't even at a beta, rc or stable status lol and CM 7.2 development in general is only coming to a recent freeze though we dont have much love in that department here was we passed it.
CM9 is still going to be under development in general for a decent period of time. Ours is very obviously still under development.

Op you just need to find out where to find cm9. Maybe goo? Goo.im under some developers. Remember one of them is helping with kernels?

I don't know why anyone would waste time on 9 at this time. It would seem the majority of interest has shifted towards 10.

The latest CM9 nightly is from 2 nights ago. Its still being worked on. The cm10 general repo is still very young. I am sure in a few months most development will shift to cm10 from cm9. But I wouldn't consider it abandoned just yet.

9 is still in rc status officially. For our device its in alpha. A kernel is being worked on to for cm10 but there's still a lot of work to be done.
Cm9 development is the current focus so we can be officially supported by cm. With that goal in mind, why would you want to start over when its so close?

Why?
Its a valid question and the OP isn't the only one asking it?
Unless is publicly stated that its dropped, it should continue. There's obviously plenty of "want" as the past few months have driven many backwards..

That is CM7, not the ICS version. Also doesn't answer what other devs will bring.
there are unofficial ports that are being worked on
but official from source might be CM9
unless some one here beats them to it
Let met me just look into my magic crystal ball, it should tell me which developer will be the first to release ice cream sandwich
You should totally expect us to be able to answer this question for you. We know when it will be released, but we would rather not tell you

I dunno, you may be right. I know the CM team is actively working on it, that's more than I can say for any of the devs here. I mean, I could start to expect it from Team Kang but they've been a little silent on the issue.
I don't believe we have anyone that can just use the source to make it work on the T989 though. I believe everyone will need to use a base from somewhere else. I think we'll see it pretty soon after another device does.
I don't know anything though, this is just what my foolish brain tells me.
Someone is definitely working on an unofficial port
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
It will come with patience, obviously.
you can expect many developers to want to start making a ROM based on it, since it its the newest version of Android

Like others have already said, nobody knows for sure. Though it's very likely that cm9 will be the first ics rom available on our devices. There aren't a lot of devs that build from source, and if they do, they usually use cm as their base. Not saying there aren't talented people here...that's just what I've seen.
I took a crack at compiling from source, but with 3 kids and a fulltime job, my time is limited. There's a lot that needs to be done...

ICS sourced dropped like a week ago, the device has been out for a couple months
The biggest problem is that there is no aosp kernel right now that works. So once we have that there is a better chance at getting aosp roms.

Well there's supposedly a build of CM7 Kang that works quite well on the SGSIIE4GT with some mod work. It was also sent to one of our main devs, Viper boy, and I'm pretty sure he and his team are ripping that thing apart line by line to make it work the best it can. They like to release finished products and they literally just got it yesterday... so.. idk hopefully soon!!!

Just curious, will it help once the Nexus-S 4G gets the official ICS Android 4.0 update from Google + Sprint, can any of that code be used to help make a ICS ROM for our E4T ?
Don't both phones share the same CDMA radios, and some similar Samsung hardware ?

Hold up: Who exactly did you "clarify" that with? I'm only curious because I was the one who sent that kanged Rom to Viperboy, and it was MOST DEFINITELY NOT an ICS Rom when I sent him the link to my Dropbox. When, exactly, did it morph from a tired CM7 build into an ICS ROM?
Am I now known as an "underground smuggler" of ICS ROMs??

Btw, it's awesome that Codeworkx could make a demo video of a non-public Rom without using "Let the Bodies Hit The Floor" or "Soar" as the background music, as is much too commonplace these days. Awesome track.

I wonder if they'll beat the official GSII ICS release from Samsung? They've got 100 days (or less).

No cyanogen of any variety... YET. It is definitely in the works. Also should be getting ICS at some point according to Samsung.
That said, this phone is awesome even running stock Gingerbread. It is incredibly fast, the screen is amazing and I think it is far and away the best android phone you can get on Sprint. It even gives the Verizon Galaxy Nexus a run for its money. I came from the Epic 4G and have not had a moments regret.

CM9 isn't out at all yet for our phone, but there is a WORKING CM7 Kang for our phone, which has very few bugs left to work out. It'll be picked up for nightlies soon enough, then CM9 work will begin.
An ICS leak came out today that works with our phone, but no data/wifi/phone calls/etc... because of the kernel. Probably a little while out on this one, but it's coming for sure. Sprint and Samsung have already confirmed this phone WILL get ICS.
As of now, Blazer ROM is the absolute best in my opinion. Been running it since version 1.2 and it's now on 3.4. It's updated consistently, "blaz"ingly smooth & the creator PhantomHacker is a very active member in our community.
^ Plus ICS theme & a few others

Aside from very minor cosmetic tweaks to the framework the vast majority of what is known as 'touchwiz' can be gotten around by installing an alternate launcher...once rooted you can just delete the apk and be done with the mess.
After coming from HTC devices I mortally feared the fail that was TW. Come to find out that this version of TW is actually pretty goddamned good. It's not thrilling, it doesn't scale with screen density changes and the aesthetic choices leave much to be desired (ugly garish icons, page-dots, app drawer button at the right side and seems unmovable). But it's not much more intrusive than a launcher and some native launcher widgets.....and is seriously extremely smooth as hell though and worth consideration--and I love ADWex and LP.
Source has been released for both...it's all in progress. The CM7 kang is my daily driver (and hauls ass) and last I heard agrabren was going to be working with the CM7 kang developer on CM9.
...and so far as not being able to make a kernel without source, umm, perhaps I am misunderstanding something, but, I didn't know there was any other way to make a kernel.

I like Touchwiz 4.0. Very well thought out. I definitely like it over vanilla and Sense.
It's simple, like vanilla, it's buttery smooth (gpu accelerated), and it has extra neat little things like notifications on lockscreen, swiping left/right (message/call default) in Contacts. Etc...
I also like TW4.0, its actually nice. There's a good selection of ROM's available, and definitely potential in the works, just takes time. We have some great developers doing awesome things.
roms are great and getting better, meaning more roms keep coming
