LJ7 OTA killer - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Seen this posted a lot (think i answered like four posts myself). For people on a stock-based rom receiving the update nag but do not want it, here is a zip i threw together to stop the nag for the update. Thats all it does is stops the popup for the system update. Will work on any tw based rom. Just flash in recovery. ENJOY

Why not just accept the update? Install fails signature check and then stops asking.

Seems to be the case with many others as well. Best case scenario, it still comes back. I dont care as i hate TW based roms and im on CM10 but i see this posted alot and always supply a modded build.prop. Just making it easier on people askin for a solution.

Got Brick Bug Apk

I didn't see this posted here and it's a new tool for our device. Please make sure to throw thanks around in the OP thread for the apk.
Gotbrickbug.apk thread
Edit: My chipset has the Brick Bug I would say I have been extremely lucky so far.
You're only really in trouble if you're using a kernel that has mmc_cap_erase set and a recovery that calls it. If you're using a kernel that has it disabled you should be safe. Which you can really only get that with a source built kernel. That's why everyone warns to use the builds using the leaked kernel at their own risk.

Wouldn't anybody running a non stock kernel have the bug? If so wouldn't you already know you have it?

Exactly. Other than one wild and crazy night of testing for this very bug, I've been sticking to the *safe* method of wipe data/factory reset so it hasn't been an issue, but knowledge is indeed power.

funny I've got the bug yet I've "never" bricked this phone. Then again I go about things very differently when it comes to flashing builds which I think kinda saves me from this problem. Nice little tool though Chainfire again is the man.
I've got the bad chip set too but I guess I've been very lucky. I've tried ics 5 times or less and have never used the cwm touch recovery. I've always went back to gb after a day or less of ics and have always used one click odins. I'm not following jay Harper's suggestion, so I have no idea if that had any part in my luck.
Thanks for the link,. I have the bad one too. Does anybody here have the good one?

I think the reason most here would have the firmware that is listed as "Danger" ... is the we were early adopters and got the first or early chips with that code revision on it. When sfhub posted his discussion for the eMMC lockup I'm sure many of us checked. I did. But I have been extra careful in what I do and follow the advice of devs and the folks here with way more talent then me. That said I have flashed just about everything that gets put up. I just got's to know...
As a safety when I've been unsure of a ROM or method I'll PC Odin to stock EL26CWM and go from there. BUT I have also made many nandroids and restored them with the various kernels here. The latest have been just super too.
Chainfire's tool is pretty cool, it may help some of the less experienced be a little more careful in what and how they flash. [or maybe not - they probably wouldn't read that or this. ]

[TEMP][NANDROID][JELLYBEAN] redruM UVDLI3

This is a Nandroid of the leaked JellyBean UVDLI3 with SU already installed. BusyBox can easily be installed by grabbing it off the market and installing....self explainatory. I will put this up for those who will find it easier to simply Nandroid restore and also for Devs who want access to it to do work on themselves instead of having to Odin back to stock, flash the update, Nandroid, pull it and use it.
One issue that you are bound to notice immediately is the constant haptic feedback. Solution to this is to open the SuperUser app and check mark "temp unroot". If you have SuperSU installed as well, do the same in that app. Then, wait a second and uncheck it on SuperUser and on SuperSU. Stops it. Stupid and pain in the ass but it seems to happen whenever you reboot the phone.
Other then that, the ROM is extremely fast and smooth. Some nice newer features. Obviously haven't tested battery life yet but will be out all day tomorrow with the wife for her birthday so we shall see.
Anyway, enjoy!

Ah! ****, I'm sorry guys. I had WiFi on. When I was going through settings I just realized it says "Baseband Unknown". It's doing the same thing it did when we first tried building or first custom ROM for this phone.
I can't for the life of me remember what it was that caused it, and I know it was something simple.
Canceling the upload now. Really sorry guys, if I could get a hold of Wild really quick I would fix it because I'm sure he knows what it is. Unfortunately I'm sure he's not online and I have to be up really early.
I apologize for jumping the gun, I had the upload already going as soon as the ROM booted up.

If anyone needs a Nandroid of it, though (which may still be easier for you guys instead of having to Odin back to stock then update) I'll link the one I'm uploading.
It already has SU....and I believe BusyBox (if not, you just have to grab BusyBox Free from the market).
Should work just fine.
Also, for any developers who need it instead of having to Odin back to stock and all that good stuff.
I'll put that in the OP instead.

No problem man. Sorry the ROM itself didn't work though! I feel bad, got peoples hopes up. I'm sure its something really stupid and simple that is doing it, I remember it being something simple but it's been so long since I had this problem that I can't remember what it is.

Well it works fine for me, but the ROM I cooked up really quick had no baseband. Hence why I pulled it :/
I'm uploading the Nandroid instead for whoever needs it to use. The Nandroid should work perfectly fine (I've restored it twice and it worked perfectly).
Kind of a dumb question but we won't have CWM with this right?

If you Nandroid restore, yes, you will.
If you Odin back to pure stock then flash the update that leaked, no, you will not. You would have to root it again and install the CWM and SuperUser.

[MOD] Disable softkeys backlight

This is to allow one to disable the MENU and BACK softkey backlights. Its an option in CM ROMs but it doesnt stick after reboot and sometimes(for me) wouldnt always hold true.
I have tested this ONLY on CM/AOSP ROMs, it may or may not work on stock. However, its SAFE to flash to any ROM. But is not guarenteed to work.
That being said, whatever you do to YOUR phone is YOUR responsibility.
Also, not sure if this has been covered xD
Installation is simple:
Flash attached zip via any CUSTOM recovery and reboot.
Then enjoy.
Thanks guys hope ive helped.

I just got a little carried away, i was just trying to share my discoveries with the community and i felt like i was being belittled and that my mod wasnt "good enough" to be shared.
And what i meant by "i found a mod" is that i actually discovered a method to fix my issue... my wording was confusing so i understand where you were coming from based on that.
Its just, look at my thanks meter, look at my post count, look at my join date...... i know the rules and i NEVER take anyone else's credit as my own. I guess it felt like i was being treated as a newb lol. xD
But those are pretty cool. I made something like that for the S2, except it didnt have the remap options, nobody asked for it xD. And then someone wanted the search key to be camera key so i made one for that. Im very familiar with modding and tweaking, themeing pretty much anything. But im glad were "cool" now. lol. i just really felt like i was being belittled and looked down upon.

The magical search button and your firmware notification

Hey everyone,
I've noticed about 500 new posts a day saying, "I'm rooted and go an update notification. It's probably JB, should I take it?"
I'm here to help you out.
1. It's not JB. When it does come out you'll see people by the names of Freeza, zanderman, MrTimz, TEAMERA, clark44, etc get very excited and post about how awesome it is that JB is out. We'll be more than happy to at that time. Googling tech blogs and such will also help you stay on top of developing news of this nature.
2. If you have a custom recovery go ahead and accept. The installation will fail and everything will be fine upon reboot. If you have a stock recovery you can update but will probably lose root. Root again using normal methods.
3. The only JB out is leaked build that you would have to install normally.
4. Feel free to flash these builds to try them out and stop asking if you should. It's safe but ultimately your decision, not ours.
5. Stop posting in the dev section. Those of you who can't yet, it's for good reason, not to be mean. The only things you should post in the dev section are Roms, kernels and modifications to Android that you created.
6. If you aren't sure of something and don't want to sound silly, PM an experienced member. I've never had a question posed to me on here that I wasn't happy to help answer within my abilities.
7. Enjoy the place but please stop cluttering it up with the same question over and over. The search button will reveal that you probably weren't the first to ask your question. If you are, then kudos, feel free to post it in the Q & A section to be handled.
Thanks! Love ya guys!

[Q] AT&T GN2 Help

Hi I am new here and I would like to root my device to make it my own and get rid of all the apps that came with it, but I have a few questions.
1, Once I am rooted which rom is the best for my AT&T GN2?
2, Will I still be able to update my GN2?
3, What happens if I messed up during the rooting process?
4, And how often do I need to change roms?
5, Is rooting the way to go?
I am going to be dead honest here, I am a girl and some of the steps of rooting I dont quite understand, if someone can help me explain things I will be so happy.

1. Try each rom out and find out what YOU like. I personally use CleanRom 4.0.5 with no problems.
2. Why update when custom roms are better than stock roms?
3. If you mess up thats on you. But its not to hard root. I rooted and installed a custom rom before leaving the att store.
4. If you find a rom that you like you will most likely flash a new rim once its updated.
5. Yes rooting has many advantages. Ex. Wifi tethering, removing bloatware, custom roms, etc.....

Thank you guys for your help, I am going to check and learn how to root my GN2, and tell you the results lol hope I do good, btw right now I am using TSF Shell, its okay but I want pink colour on my status bar.
Yeah rooting is easy as 1 2 3. Back in the day it was much more tedious. You can root in less than 10 mins now

I know it might be easy for you guys that are experts, but for me who is a newbie might not be that easy, I dont even know how to start lol.
Honestly im a noobie still haha.
Clean rom is the best imo.
Go to the android development section and read the stickies at the top and it will tell you everything you need to know involving the rooting process .

I am reading how to root and can you please tell me the differences?
1,Root with Exynos Abuse Apk, is there a difference between rooting like this and the other way?
To my experience this way allows me to remove bloatware aka att apps. And also install custom roms.
Installing the exploit fix may crash camera. Just a warning

By using the app called titanium backup you may disable or delete a lot of apps.
And also back up apps
Theres a lot to read but you will understand in time

Another question, if I root it with Exynos Abuse Apk do I need to install a rom aswell? sorry to ask too many questions
No. You can be rooted using the "stock" rom you are using now out of the box. You will have the ability to delete apps using the app mentioned before.
If and when you do decide to install new roms. You will have to install a recovery. Which that exynos abuse apk does not include.
A recovery is a whole other thing.
For recovery I use twrp.

No, you can stay stock, but you're gonna want to flash something because you know it's better. Clean rom is the way to go.

I'll be honest, this smells of a "phone won't turn on" thread in the near future. You're not ready to root your phone and go playing around in recovery. You might be ready to root once you'd studied up on exanose abuse and the rooting concept in general. But right now I would hold off if I were you. TBO the Gn2 runs so well out of the box that you're almost there anyway. Make sure you are confident that you will know how to do each step BEFORE you attempt to root, and are sure you have another web-enabled device so that you can come here for questions while your Gn2 is down.
Let's us know what you decide...
