This morning I picked up my EVO and the wonderful people at the Sprint store ported over my number from T-mobile. They told me to leave my EVO off until my old G1 with T-Mobile stopped working. I think they might have screwed something up, though, because my voicemail number is a different number than mine and I can't use the device self service. Here's the skinny so far:
- I've done the profile update in the settings, that doesn't fix it.
- My visual voicemail does not work
- The device self service tells me that it's not the correct number for my account.
Now, this morning I did hear them mention something about a temporary number, so I'm thinking it might be defaulting to that. I'm going to call Sprint in the morning to get it taken care of, but I figured I'd come to the real experts first. Any ideas?
same exact problem.
ported my g1 number to sprint and was told the same, fired up the evo once my g1 stopped working.
the number displayed in settings>about phone is still the temporary number and the same functions do not work for me.
tell me how it goes with sprint.
much appreciated.
Same here as well but your number is actually your ported number. I called sprint and the guy said that's normal it can take up to 2 full days before all that gets sorted out. Once your ported number shows in your about phone your voicemail will work.

Got this from another thread in the general forum: Worse case get your msl and enter ##MSL CODE# this will bring up a menu where you can make sure that your new phone number is correctly placed in both those fields. If not you can save the correct number and reboot. Sometimes the phone provisions properly sometimes it will not.
They should have programmed your original phone number and MSID into the phone even though it had not yet been ported over yet. Call Customer service and get your programming info or go back to the store to have them reprogram it. It's going to be stuck with the temp number until it's manually configured.
Hey everyone,
I went to the Sprint store this morning to get my issue taken care of, and it was as simple as reprogramming. He took care of it in 30 seconds. All fixed!
i went to the sprint store, but i don't think the employee really understood the problem. they ended up doing a hard reset and not being able to fix it.
ended up calling customer care and they took care of it easily.
I had this same issue but with my wife's phone 2 weeks ago. I ended up doing a hard reset (not the one in the user menu for her phone) via a service menu (they provided code).
So my guess is either re-program or this service menu hard reset future reference for anyone with similar problem
I have the epic 4g and I am trying to flash it to boost mobile... I followed one of the guides that you find on YouTube or Google..
I followed the guide step-by-step and my phone got to the activation part, where it did the OTA programming successfully, but when i try to make a call it just says "You're authentication code cant be verified"...
I have the Boost Incognito as my "donor phone" fully activated, MMS, Calling, Internet and everythings working.
Please help me, it would be greatly appreciated!
***EDIT!!: ONLY Internet/Data works.. And calls/texts do NOT! Weird huh?***
[Mods]: If this is in the wrong section please move or tell me where to repost, thank you!
I had that happen to me once. None of my text worked, and when I made a call, it sent me to a sprint person. I don't know why but, they said I wasn't connected to any of the phone towers or something like that. Maybe you can contact boost for help.

I don't dare go through to a sprint rep lmao... This phone has a bad ESN because I just stopped paying for my service and went to boost about 3 months ago! And it would have to be connected to towers because its getting a data signal.
Bump/Update
Okay so I am still experiencing the same problems, Internet is working but can't call or send/recieve texts/mms. I followed the guide on here of how to get 3G working, which is why I believe the internet and everything is working.
When I text it just fails, no error stated. But when I try to make a call it rings once and says "Your authentication code could not be verified... blah blah... Error 16 switch blah..."
Anyone have any suggestions on what to do?
Thanks.
yes. just stay on the phone and talk to the sprint rep. the first words out of their mouth is "i see you are having problems, and i can get you going in a minute..." they ask for your password(4-digit pin for boost) and the model of the phone you are using (give them donor phone model). they tell you to power down for 30 seconds, then power up. call someone & don't hang up for 30 seconds... thats it.
i always tell them that i did a ##rtn# on my rant, and that's how i ended up with the error code. takes two minutes total.

Thank you very much this worked! I tried it before but I used the donor phone not the actual epic because I was too scared to go through a sprint rep lol.

That's the same thing that happened to me but I told them I was using an epic 4g on the boost network and they still helped me.
You told them that you had an epic and they still did it? Also most people say that the error 16 says "Error 16" as soon as you dial any number... When I called a guy said "your authentication code could not be verified..." then said message 16 switch something. That's probably why I got it confused but as soon as I went through to the sprint rep she said she manually entered something and had me turn my phone off for at least 30 seconds and it worked after that thank god!

Can someone please explain to me in more detail how to solve this issue? You guys keep talking about the "sprint rep"...why would you be talking to Sprint? Or are you just talking about boost customer service?
What do you ask the rep to do exactly? When I call them, they have no clue how to fix this problem...One time I had them change the MSID and it fixed it, but yesterday I had this problem again, and I had them change the MSID twice but still had this problem. Please help!!!
when i called and did this today the rep only asked me to verify my name, number and account pin. i told here i didnt have another phone available and she told me to hang up, turn the phone off for 30 secs and turn it back on and make a call. I did it and it worked. And yes, this rep said she was from sprint and not boost.
PS i had to do this twice because the first rep asked me what kind of phone i had and i said samsung. since it didnt match my account she transfered me to boost. the second time they didnt ask but if they ask just give them the info from the donor phone.

Sorry for slow response haven't been on in awhile, but yes it is a Sprint rep and they say you cant connect to the towers, so they have to manually enter your codes into the system. They will do that, then tell you to power your phone off as soon as you hangup, and pull the battery out and keep it out for 30 seconds then turn it on and make a call for 30 seconds. Just call your voicemail and put your phone in your pocket for a little bit lol.
hey guys so here was my deal, huge coverage outrage in my area for 24 hours (the whole state had no signal for a day it was nasty) , when it came back i found out the had change my msid number so i had to gspt it to re configure my new number. then i had this problem when i called or texted (3g never broke tho) so i called sprint who tranfered me to boost etc etc.... WRONG!! waste of time , they dont know s**T nor reps not technical support sooo... if you have this message played DO NOT HANG UP!!!!! IT WILL AUTOMATICALLY FORWARD YOU TO A TECHNICAL REP after the message is played again in spanish and the the code error is said afte all that the call is transfer automatically to a SPRINT rep will ask you for your account pin (same pin that you use for voicemail) i gave him my pin he said boosmobile account? i said yes correct, then he asked me what kind of phone i was using and i told him my incognito. he say hang up,turnoff phone, take batterry out for 30 secs then you are set. he was sure right everryting went back to normal. good luck boys.
Hi People some of you are having problems with error 16 from sprint or boost when you flash or reset a phone, well i have a direct number that you can call, but make sure you have the exact name on the account plus the phone that you are using he diret phone number is 1-877-492-9605... Dont forget to thanks for thi research that will help anybody...... no one had this information
the way i do it is going to my account on boost and changing the esn number on my account with any other esn ,, wait a few minutes and than i put my old esn back on the account that will fix it, im 100% sure
Thanks for the help.
Do you have any idea what causes it? I heard an error 16 randomly last week, but just hung up (with a puzzled look on my face) and called right back and the call went through.
I set up my wife's phone two weeks ago and she got that error twice. Once shortly after I first activated and then after I rooted and put in a new system, including a new radio.
Both times calling regular customer service resolved the issue.
Since then I haven't had this problem at all.
Edit: the following information may outdated, as the last time I had the problem, I had actually call customer service from another phone because the automatic prompting did not work.

Thanks for finding this thegqguy. Three years later and this number still works.
Calling from the handset gets you directly to the error 16 person on your mobile carrier error 16 department.
Helped after changing my elderly mothers phone on the lifeline from an old dying kyrocera jax which is probably giving her cancer due to the high esd or emr or whatever radiates from the radio. Now maybe she will finally live to be over 80 without brain cancer.:victory:
Recently I have been having a problem with error 16. It happened of course when I activated on boost mobile. Then 3 days later it hit me 2 days in a row. And now a week later I am getting error 16 again. Did some research and couldn't find a fix. I know how to get it to go away I just need a way to make it stop repeating. Any info? Thanks

Did you flash your phone yourself or did you pay to have someone do it for you? I know how to fix the error but lets figure out why it keeps happening also. The only time I've ever got that error is when I first activated the phone. Also, did you have to apply a fix each time it gave you the error or did it fix itself?

How do you fix i have recently been having the same issues. it comes and goes. ill make a call and sometimes get the error then i just hang up and try again then will usually fix itself
The only time this happens to me is when I turn on the donor phone, I don't even have to make a call with it, and then turn on the Evo.
This is the only time this ever happens to me.
In my experience error 16 happens when Boost initiates an OTA PRL update and when the flashed phone does not respond correctly (as a Boost phone would) it is flagged and error 16 results.
What you need to do to avoid it is to wait for an automatic PRL update after you activate the donor phone and only then flash the receptor phone.
Error 16 is a "Sprint" security Flag. It not related to Boost at all. What typically causes it is the radio still has some of the old MEID or ESN locations. When you flashed your new phone did you find the correct amount of locations in hex memory? I think 9 for MEID and 11 for ESN? Any less and the old info is still in hex memory and it will NOT authenticate. When you do your ##debug# I bet you'll see AN/AAA authentication = failed or so... check that out.
As far as clearing it, the only I know is to let the call go thru to Sprint. They will verify your Boost account and then reset your account. But if the phone is not fully flashed it will work but error out again later on.
hello i got this error and let teh call go through but instead of sending to a rep it just says please contact your customer support provider at the end -- it hap[pened before but it went to asprint rep who helped me.. any ideas?
I don't know if it's actually related, but I'm getting that error only when I change Network Name through Service Programming from Sprint to Boost Mobile. After i verified account by talking to rep that error never happened again to me. Bt I'm still on old baseband and a PRI for over a month without any issue (except for battery life). Will update PRI and baseband now to see what is gonna happen.
Does anyone know is it ok to update NV from this thread?
[ Radios ][ 9-5 ] All EVO Radio, WiMAX, PRI, NV & HBoot versions
just stay on the line and talk to the rep. they know exactly whats wrong and will fix no ??? asked. just remember to tell them the donor phone when asked what kind of phone
I've had this problem also anytime I turn on the donor phone, it's a super easy fix and you don't have to talk to anyone. What you need to do is find a temporary MEID, there's a topic at http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...ow-ESN-s-for-activations-here-(NO-QUESTIONS!) with tons of them (many are in use but look around) than (while leaving your donor phone off) go into your My Account on the boost website and change your MEID to the temporary MEID, wait a few minutes and change the MEID back to your correct MEID. This will fix the error number 16 problem. Keep in mind as well than anytime I've done this Ive left my Evo turned on, didn't have to restart or anything.
A second solution as the post above, you could wait on the line and tell them you're just trying to make a call, give them the description of your donor phone and they will call you back on another number and have you make a test call etc (make sure you do it from your Evo). They may or may not need to call you back though, this is just what I've always been told. The only solution I ever needed with this problem is the first one.

Cool thanks i will try your first method next time!!

Error 16 Fix!! Only if you have a 2nd working BM cellphone.
I believe that BM Reps are now aware of the main cause of Error 16; Consequently, they may some times be hard to convince....Anyways here is a work around:
You need a 2nd working BM cellphone ( let's call it replacement cellphone), that is not active on any other account:
PS: Your donor phone is not what I am talking about ( matter of fact you should take its battery out and hide it somewhere in your basement )
By Flashed phone I mean your (EVO, EPIC, NEXUS....)
1- Turn OFF Both cellphones (replacement and flashed).
2- Log into your BM account, got to upgrade device, and activate the replacement cellphone
3- Turn ON the replacement cellphone (ONLY) and let it sync with the network... Test it by calling 611, if working call someone you know to double check...
4- Turn OFF replacement cellphone
4- Log into your BM account, got to upgrade device, and activate the Flashed cellphone
3- Turn ON the Flashed cellphone (ONLY) and let it sync with the network... Test it by calling 611, if working, call someone you know to double check...
Hit thanks if I helped you...
It's not that complicated. All you need to do when using this method to fix error 16 is:
1) log into boost acct, go to update handset and enter extra meid, click OK twice until you get to the screen with msl, msid, and phone number at the bottom of screen.
2) now go to main acct info screen and then click on update handset again, enter donor meid, click OK twice and you are set. Just make sure donor is off first and really you do not even have to turn off the flashed phone. I have done this probably 100 times this way with no problems.
Kc3 explained this a few posts above us already, but you don't have to wait more than a second or two before changing back.

Stay on the phone when you get the error 16, at the end an operator should get on the line, just make sure you tell them about the donor phone if they ask any questions, dont tell them about the flashed phone at all. If they ask, tell them you just went to make a call and started getting this error.
Hope this helps!
Hello all,
I was warned of an impending "update" a few nights ago. Since it hit, my mobile hotspot no longer works.
Does anyone else have an S7 Active on Red Pocket who has a working hotspot? If so, could you share the APN settings you are using, and the Android version you are on?
I think they rolled me back to January 2018. G891AUCU2BRB5
Would rather not factory reset or root, but getting very close to doing so. Neither RP or AT&T are helpful here.
Thank you,
Bob
Red Pocket Mobile Hotspot problem solved - stock Oreo 8.0 fixed it
Well, for anyone who might encounter this, I finally resolved it.
Pulled the SIM card and did a factory reset. Then it recognized the Oreo update over Wifi. Had to load an intermediate update first.
I put it Red Pocket's AP settings.
First time I tried Mobile Hotspot, it still didn't work.
Restarted the phone.
Still didn't work.
Then I remembered one rep saying to switch MVNO type to "IMSI".
3rd times a charm. Hotspot and USB tether now both working.
After ten hours of wading through poor advice, I'm back to where I was four days ago.
With one exception: I learned how to turn on Developer Mode (tap Build Number 7 times in Software Info)
AND SHUT OFF THE AUTOMATIC UPDATES UNDER DEVELOPER MODE SO IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN!!!
I have a stock S7 Active/G891A that I bought unlocked on eBay in March of 2018. It's currently running Oreo 8.0.0, build G891AUCS4CSA3. I just now disabled OTA updates thanks to you.
I've been trying to get Mobile Hotspot to work on this phone ever since I switched Consumer Cellular several months ago. Whenever I tried to enable hotspotting the phone screen would display a popup:
Please wait while verifying
Which was a normal message on the AT&T network, but now (using AT&T's network through Consumer Cellular), after 5-10 seconds a different window would appear:
Tethering/Mobile AP is unavailable.
A network issue may be preventing use of your Mobile Hotspot. Please call Customer Care at 611.
[excessive hard-coded line breaks omitted]
Over the course of several weeks in January I literally spent hours on the phone with several Consumer Cellular 1st and 2nd tier support techs trying to get past that error. Tier 2 support gave me new APN settings, had me do a network reset, and suggested that I do a factory reset. Which I did later, but that didn't work, either. Then CC tier 2 support gave up and bumped my ticket to tier 3. Tier 3 support then transmitted their version of an APN definition to my phone, but still no love. At the end of the 2nd week of phone tag, a Tier 2 tech told me that "it <Mobile Hotspot> just doesn't work with some phones not sold by us".
Maybe hotspotting won't work with my old Motorola Razor, but I was pretty sure that I'd eventually strike gold with my trusty G891A.
Because my S7 Active has version 4 of the boot loader (thank you, latest and final OTA), I haven't been able to find anything that resembles a working root. I even paid OneClickRoot to do it via remote desktop session, hoping that they had some good mojo that I hadn't yet discovered. But their support tech hit a wall, too, and ended up flashing my phone back to stock Oreo 8.0.0. They also refunded my purchase almost immediately which made me sort of happy but still sad that I had no Hotspot abilities.
While searching for possible workarounds (ROMS, root, mystical incantations) tonight I came across your posts:

So I followed your tip. I created a new APN definition and copied in all of the values from the CC Tier 3 definition . I then set Mobile virtual network operator type to imsi . This value was set to None in all in all of the other APN definitions on my phone.
I didn't even need to reboot the phone. I selected my new APN definition and enabled Mobile Hotspot. The first message about verifying came up. But then the phone didn't direct me to dial 611. Mobile Hotspot simply started working.
Thanks every so much for sharing this insight.

WOW! Thanks so much for posting this. I've been struggling for a couple of months to find a way to hotspot my two unlocked LG's (G6 and a G7) on Cricket and Consumer Cellular. This trick enabled hotspot/tether quickly and easily.
My apologies to Cricket and CC, for my unflattering thoughts about them. I assumed it was their issue! Not sure why these unlocked LG's are fidgety like this. We got a Moto X4 (Android One flavor) in the family, and it can hotspot with no tweaking.
BTW - I have a similar issue with call forwarding on the LG's. Can't enable it, get an error. But the Moto X4 has no problem on either of these AT&T MVNO's. Anyone have an easy answer for that? Thanks.
This doesn't answer the call forwarding question. I'm not sure who pushes OTA updates, but soon after my last post I got a notification that an my phone needed to be rebooted for an update to finish. This was after I (at least thought that I had) disabled automatic updates. After the update the hotspot feature no longer worked. I checked APN settings and found that the update had reset the APN MVNO type to NONE . I manually changed it back to imsi and it's been working ever since. I also made sure (twice with reboot in between) that automatic OTA Updates are disabled.
Although enabling/disabling these features seems to be problematic with AT&T MVNOs, what I find more curious is that techs at Consumer Cellular claim not to know how to fix them. Maybe that's true, or maybe that's what they are told to say.
Was it coincidence that I received an OTA update within days of making this change, or is the Big Brother with the Blue Death Star logo watching us so closely?
