Hey everyone I currently have HTC one x. I'm thinking of switching to s3 before doing so I have some questions to ask.
1) how's the performance of the s3 compared to your one x?
2) does the battery last for a day with heavy usage?
3)The camera is amazing on one x. Just wondering if it's the same for the s3
Have a great day everyone

I have both.
The s3 seems faster (I hate sense soooo much), battery lasts longer and the cameras are comparable.

The gs3 battery is significantly better due to the screen being nowhere near as bright and it also has the larger battery. If screen brightness is important to u ie outdoor visibility, stick with the x. The us version gs3 is leaps and bounds better than the one x BC of that extra GB of ram.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
Also, the camera is better on the s3 in my opinion, however the software on the one x seems to be better and easier to use.

It's being developed as we speak.
Anywho, I switched from the one x mostly because I figured the development would be better and sammys are easier to work with in that regard. No need for fastboot flashing, no s-on troubles, no locked bootloader Yada Yada Yada. An example of this is the new att update for the one x that contains a new bootloader, which is further complicating development over there.
Also my one x in particular would lose radio signal fairly frequently, and im not the only one with that issue. Drove me nuts.

He means camera software. It has a dedicated imaging chip called ImageSense and can do real time photo manipulation and such. I still don't like One X photos because they're too saturated. GS3 photos are more realistic looking (funny how it's the opposite of their screens!).

The phone i had right before this was the rogers one x... simultaneously owned both for about three days as well swapped back and forth and stuck with the s3.
1) Much much much better on the siii, touchwiz seems to be a lot lighter than sense. I barely ever get lag on the siii vs the regular homescreen /launcher lag i used to get on the one x. Htc might have toned sense down in ics, but its still lags like a ***** compared when compared to other phones like galaxy nexus and the siii.
2) definitely, i find that the battery is on par with my one x (i had the rogers dual core version btw)
3) i find that the cameras on both devices are about equal in terms of quality. The one x has the edge in the better camera software though.
one major thing that sold me to the siii surprisingly were the ergonomics. i know a lot of people say the s iii looks cheap and whatnot compared to the one x but how the siii feels in hand is AMAZING, like the phone has such a large screen yet feels so small in hand. It is so much more comfortable to hold than the one x, the one x is thicker and feels more blocky thus it feels much larger in hand than the siii.
The one x has the edge on actual quality with its polycarbonate, but imo to me the ergonomics of the siii really won my heart. seriously if you havent had the time to see one, hold both the one x and the siii and youll notice how much easier the siii is to handle, while with the one x i had to stumble a lot to handle the device.

I can only speak for myself, but after a month of use, I haven't had a single hiccup with the S3. No FCs, no reboots, nothing. Battery life is fantastic. I've also got the One X and I think they're both great phones. I do like the louder speaker on the S3 better and, for some reason, the camera is much better for me than the One X. I wish I could figure out what I'm doing wrong on the One X camera because I just can't get shots nearly as good as the ones I take with the S3.
But yeah, this is one solid phone. I'm extremely happy with it. :good:
I was referring to ImageSense actually. The refinements made by HTC to the stock android camera layout/software.

Ditto to everything you listed... especially the ergonomics. The SIII simply feels so much smaller than the screen size would make you think it would feel. I can easily access the whole screen one handed with my thumb.

I think it is, if you like roms then the galaxy nexus will always have better development. I love the nexus I have had lots of high end phones and this is my favorite. I like the on screen buttons and how you can change them and the color. Good luck

Sense 4 was disappointing... pretty much everything about it was sad. The nexus has better screen size (4.65"), resolution (720p) and development.
The One S has better processor (dual-core s4) and custom hardware (image sense).
So it depends on what you want.
nexus vs one x i would understand. but why go one s unless you really want a smaller form factor.
honestly... i like most high end androids. but its always the nexus for me. stock android is the best... in my opinion at least.
id still take my galaxy nexus over the galaxy s3 or the one x. heck.. i never got tempted to replace my nexus one until the nexus s came out. but i finally jumped when the galaxy nexus got released.
if you like sense.. go for the one x. if you like smaller phones then go for the one s. go get the galaxy s3 if you can wait for that. but look at it this way... would you want the next iteration of android the soonest? if you wanna get jelly bean this year then there is no other choice but the galaxy nexus.

And I got to say I was surprised with sense (haven't used it since Evo 3D) and is not bad Camera is much better and screen well it depends on you the one s screen you can defimetely see pixels (specially after having the Gnex) but the look of the phone is nice (really nice and thin) and the gnex screen is beautiful (If you don't keep starting at white backgrounds ) is hard deduction I'm selling my Gnex to get money to buy a GSM version ho only cause of roms and that's what it comes too rom community on Gnex doesn't compare to htc one s and I don't think it ever will so yeah . Not being biased when I was mainly comparing it to my old sensation. Nexus aside. If I were going straight to tmobile for a phone I wouldn't see the advantage in getting the one s over the sensation. To me the sensation screen looks better feels better in your hand and the one s cones in silver/grey with panzy blue trim on it. It was snappy but not an improvement over previous HTC models. Just disappointed with the one series is all. Nothing but hype

No Gnex does not feel cheap it feel like a great device specially with the on screen nav buttons camera is not bad but ain't great and the One S I think it has a better camera overall specially woth moving shots(with tryig out with my 2 year old and pets ) . one s feels better after a while the unibody design and thin part makes it look good. I would be happy with etheir one but the best options for rooters is Galaxy nexus IMO for other might be the one s

I would choose the GN over the One S. Tue ability to stay contract free appeals to me. Also, the bigger screen with better resolution is a no-brainer to me. The One S feels nice in hand and high quality. The GN is no slouch either. While it is plastic, it feels nice and has good heft. Just my .02.

I wish i read the one x forum on xda before i purchased my one x instead of just reading glorified reviews!
If i look in general section or the Q&A section...they all seem to be full of complaints from Wi-Fi, screen build quality, scratches, sound quality and so forth and i must say I've not had the same experience with the sgs2!
Have i seriously made a mistake not buying the s3?
How many people would be willing to change their device if the money was no problem or straight swap hypothetically?

Don't let the fact that a few early adopters have had problems (and been very vocal about it) have any bearing on what you think. Unless you're having problems with your device it's irrelevant.

I got mine (Tegra 3 unlocked) for $300 off Kijiji and am loving it. It's completely issue free. WiFi works 100%, same with the data. No regrets here.
I bought mine international/unlocked from NewEgg and it's perfect, none of the flaws and issues I've read about.
I think we're seeing something very similar to the iPhone 4 "antennagate." I had an iPhone 4 and know several other people with them and none of us ever, not even once, experienced the "death grip" with them. And yet, the media was full of reports about how the iPhone 4 suffered from dropped calls constantly and bad reception.
A few reports of problems will always get blown out of proportion and make the product look like it's defective by design, even when the problem is really just a few specific devices which had pretty run of the mill manufacturing flaws.
You have nothing to worry about. Pick up a One X and join the "World's Best Phone" club.

I'm going to be getting a new phone in April. I think it's best to see how the S4 holds up against the Tegra 4 and other new SoCs before making the decision.

Get the Sony experia z.
Killer specs and waterproof.
I saw a video comparison between both screens xperia Z and Droid DNA(same screen as Butterfly) and the blacks/colors were much deeper on the HTC screen.
The xperia Z looked nice but the blacks were like on a SLCD1 screen
I don't know, I mean I will definitely buy a new phone if the HOX doesn't get s-off within the next couple of months. So for my next phone I'll make a deep research about how open its system is.

No more HTC's for me, plus the battery on the Butterfly J is completely underpowered! 2020mah when it's putting out 440ppi on bright SLCD3 display??! It's the HOX / 1800mah all over again! I guess the Butterfly J+ will pack a 2500mah...might wait for that lol.
The Xperia Z is a fine looking lady but the Sony Android skin always looks laggy to me and I hate the viewing angles of Sony screens, the Xperia T only needs to be tilted a few degrees and it's unreadable!
SD card and user removable battery next for me, I'll see how the Samsung S4 turns out, the 5 Octa processes look great on paper!

I know I swore I would never get another Sammy after the fiasco I had with my old SGS2, but I really miss having a removable battery and SD card. I am also considering the Xperia Z, too. Probably wait and see what the screen and rom development is like when it's released before I make a decision.

Id say wait too.
Remember when we got our HOX? Just months after that the plus version was released and it looks the same will happen with the butterfly as well.
In my view we should change phones every 1 1/2 or 2 years.Since we are in the trip of spending a lot for top notch smartphones its best to wait around to get something much much better than HOX rather than getting something slightly improved. But that's just me......

My upgrades due on my desire but as I've got me hox there isn't anything worth upgrading to now.. love me hox. Won't be getting another HTC though with their crappy s-off policy.
The Lenovo looks nice, or that waterproof thingy.... oooh too much to choose from.. (soon). If it wasn't for touchwiz I'd think about the s4.
Now an s4 with sense, wouldn't that be awesome?
I will wait for MWC 2013 then, I hope they will come out with a 12mp camera this time and 1080p on 4.7'' so I will wait to May as usual.
Droid DNA is already making iphone 5 retina eating the dust so a 4.7'' with 1080p will be...:silly:

I personally still think the HTC One is superior to the G2. When comparing One to the S4, well the One hands down since the S4 is locked down right now.
i debated the same thing about a month ago. I am very happy with the ONE. I went with the one mostly because I was afraid about the lack of cases available for the verizon one. The VZW back is different than other G2s. I held both in store and the superior build qualtiy of the one put me over the edge.
development is much better on the G2 at the moment though.
Im happy with my decision.
I have played with a few of the other flagship phones like the S4 and the G2, and hands down the One takes the prize. In my opinion, that is.

I had the S4, and the G2, and still prefer the HTC One. Maybe its the look of the UI itself, but I thought the S4 and G2 were almost the same. both very cheap cartoony looking. I was also not a fan of the back buttons at all.
There are so many USEFUL suprises on the HTC One that I have used more in a week, then the unneeded special stuff on the S4 that I had for over 2 months. I am VERY happy that I got the HTC one and sold the S4. And I wasnt even rooted on the One or S4.

I was really iffy about the camera as well since i owned the s4 at the same time. HOWEVER, granted the s4 has a much higher megapixel the One camera has a far more accurate color replicatiion. The only downside to the One cam is cropping and zooming on a photo. If you are okay with a image that comes out in excellent quality when printed at its natural size(close to 8x12 i think) then you will be good to go.

Ive been looking at comparison shots of the One vs the GS4. Checks out. Honestly, for snapping pictures of my cats, the One will do just fine.
Always thought the iPhone was the de-facto standard for camera phones. Well last weekend in Philly I got an unbelievable shot of the monument for African Americans by the liberty bell that my gf couldn't with her 5s because of the lighting. For point and shoot, I've had no regrets.

My only issue is I feel like I can never get a good stabilization. A good number of my pictures come out blurry. At times.

went from a GNex to the HTC One. If i had to do it again, i would go to the Moto X developer edition. My friend switches between that and his 5s. And after using it, I like it a little bit more than my one, although I just think thats mostly because of the power button location and that its closer to pure google instead of Sense.

If I had the money to go to the Dev edition moto x I would. My wife won't let me spend that much up front.
As far as sense goes, I will only have it on there long enough to get to Cyanogenmod.

Even with my s4 I have to sit pretty still.

I am about to send my one in to have the camera replaced. The purple haze and the camera is constantly focusing but other than that the one has been flawless.

How long have you had yours? Is there a certain batch that had the bad camera? I've also read that some users have fixed it with another rom, or the 4.3 update. It all seems messy and no clear answer in sight.
Hey everyone first off if I say anything stupid I apologize in advance.
So due to the Verizon sale on the HTC one I decided to leave the S4 behind for more then one reason.
First being that the build quality is piss poor at best, and second I can't get my AOSP fix.
My only questions are
1. Has anyone else gone from the s4 to the one? If so any regrets?
2. The most important question: is there any chance of me getting a HTC one that I can't flash Roms on. I.e. upgraded firmware etc..
If everything checks out I hope to joining this community soon!

Thank you very much just that much more excited.
Now I'm just interested in if anyone has switched from the s4 to the one

I haven't switched but I've played with both. What questions do you have?

Oh no real questions just wondering if those who have used both are happier with the one overall

Oh word. I myself much prefer the feel and shape. With a one there's a wow factor for how solid it feels. It really does feel great. The diff in screen size is hardly noticeable. While the one screen pops I do envy how the s4 looks like there's no depth. Speed is about the same. The camera on the one is better IMO but both have their strengths. Battery on the one is better over all. And the no physical buttons is a plus to me. Plus the volume and power buttons are hardly noticeable unless your using them. I suggest using santods tiktak ROM if you like aosp. Very smooth and stable. Still in beta too so means it'll just get bettet

I respect how you were subjective even though you own a one for that you get a high five *high five* <---see there it is.
And that you for the ROM suggestion going to look at it now. My only wish is that Verizon had the black HTC one....well we can hope right?

I went from s4 to the one. No regrets at all. Only pro s4 had in my opinion is a little better camera.

I wanted the One before it came to Verizon, so I got the S4 instead, but switched when the opportunity presented itself. I'm pretty happy with it. While I enjoyed the S4, the build quality doesn't compare to the One. The S4 has a better camera, but the One has awesome speakers. They really do have their own strengths and weaknesses. Put a KitKat ROM on your One and go out and enjoy it!

Hope to see here you. The SG4 was a "fun" phone, I guess I'd describe it, but the HTC One is a real mans phone. No cheapy plastic, HTC Sense is great, I personally love it. I do miss the feeling of, oh hey I can just toss this phone around, with the HTC One, it's just too perfect, so for the first time since my first smart phone (HTC Eris) I put a very light, clear TPU case, which I absolutely LOVE. Don't have to worry about the metal getting dinged up on the sides, (it's a very soft metal, if you check out scratch videos on youtube, you can see on this one side the metal is VERY light and susceptible to scratches, I had no case for like the first 3 days, I went to pick up the phone and accidentally like push it forward (it was on a table) and it pushed into a lighter.. to my surprise I now have a small scratch from the tip of the metal lighter. That's when I went and found the case. I couldn't believe it scratched it, It was such a soft touch to the lighter.
I went without a case on the sg3/sg4 and both are still 9/10 condition.

Love HTC One
I think the HTC One is better. You can't beat the boom sound speakers, and it's so easy to root and s-off. There are so many great ROMs available too. Can't go wrong
