Yeah, I know. Sorry.
I have the HTC sensation. Wonder how much better either phone is then the sensation. But the specs look good for T-Mobile, including data speeds.

It's all about personal preference. The Nexus has data speeds with a theoretical max of 21 Mbps where as the S2 is 42.
On the other hand, the nexus will always have the latest and greatest software ( as long as the device is still supported by google).
Depends on what you're going to do. With a custom ROM, I found the performance to be slightly better with the G.Nexus in normal day-to-day activities such as texting and web browsing (because of Project Butter). However, the difference is pretty small. I also highly prefer the stock OS but G.Nexus does not have wifi calling so that was a deal breaker for me.

I really want a Samsung device. I can't afford 500+ for a new phone. But 350, hella yeah. With this Nexus you wouldn't need to worry about "lack of roms". Plus, from what I've been seeing. I don't think Google is releasing a new Nexus Phone. The Nexus 7 & Q took that place this year. So you wouldn't need to worry about an old device

Get the Galaxy Nexus if you like to get updates from Google and if you want a bigger screen. Get the S2 if you want a better camera and touchwiz.
S2 with AOKP all the way but that's just my opinion.

I can't say much regarding call quality nor signal but where I live and commute, there are definite signal blackspots (but not due to the phone). However when the phone actually has a full HSPA connection, it zips through downloads and *uploads*. Sure it might be as fast as some other phones or LTE but it's fine for my uses. Battery life is pretty average to be honest though with a custom ROM and kernel, you really do get a much better battery life (~3 hours on-screen time depending on how hard you use it). I've had 3-4 day standby battery lives though. NOTE: this was when I was using a 4.0.3 ROM.
It seems that Google has improved battery life in the stock 4.0.4 ROM (which I'm currently using).

Wrong. Galaxy Nexus > HTC One series.
Pretty self explainitory.
1) When Android 5.0 comes out, Galaxy Nexus will get it first before all these other phones.
2) Developer friendly. Bootloader unlockable via fastboot without any need for exploits.

It's okay. Sometimes I have a feeling people play devil's advocate on purpose for their entertainment.
I would say it is awesome improvement. Have you experienced any browser lag when opening any web pages? It's rampant, it seems, on T-Mobile phones but since the Galaxy Nexus isn't their nor has it been touched and molested by them I believe the lag is non existant. It's awesome. Go for it!

Well the Galaxy Nexus does beat the HTC One series in particular aspects (mainly development/software and the 'open' environment) but many people don't need those aspects so it's up to personal preference. HTC dominates the Nexus in terms of specs.
But who cares, I love the aesthetics of the nexus.

HTC still ships their phones with locked bootloaders. You have to unlock the bootloader via their dev website. But doing so, this will FULLY VOID your warranty and there is no way coming back because you have to provide HTC with your device information. I find this unacceptable. You can alternatively avoid this by finding a exploit to obtain root access etc etc etc.
On the other hand, with Nexus devices--it says that unlocking the bootloader will void your warranty but you can just flash back to stock and then lock the bootloader. They can't tell the difference, and honestly... warranty is only there for physical defects, most of the problems fixed by warranty aren't by software problems unless you brick your device.

People can tell you all you want. But in the end it is ultimately your decision.
Conclude if you want it or not. No one is going to beg you to trade it or not to trade it.
Let's be honest.
You post this thread on Galaxy Nexus forums
- You get responses to trade it.. "get the galaxy nexus" (I myself included)
You post on this thread on EVO LTE forums.
- Tells you to keep it.... let me guess they told you not to... because of "specs"
Conclude for your own.... both phones are great.
Want the newest and latest in terms of software? Get the Galaxy Nexus. It'll always have the latest (unsure about its LTE variants because its controlled by carriers, but GSM version is free of that). Jelly Bean is around the corner, HTC will take awhile to update their phones.
Sure you can get custom ROMs but it's just not the same. Especially when it comes to open source drivers etc etc etc etc [read this on your own, not here to lecture about OTAs]

If I was you I would switch to the Nexus.
The S3 is a great phone but it is very similar to the Nexus and the Nexus is going to be cheaper. Personally I like the look of the Nexus a little better too but that's just my personal preference. Also, I would be willing to bet that the Nexus will have dev support way longer than the S3 (even though the S3 came out several moths after the Nexus).
I would either go with the gn or wait for the new one.

Are you buying the Play store version (GSM Unlocked? for $349? If so, I'd say go ahead and get it now. If you're upgrading on your phone plan then I'd wait a month to see what the next Nexus devices may bring to the table.
This phone most definitely will be getting the next android version and the dev support is fantastic. The hardware is still very very good for being nearly 1 year old now - it still competes with the currently release high-end devices.
as of today go for nexus... until s3 get JB then you can compare it and decide which one you want
You're asking this question at the wrong place. Of course everyone here's answer is going to be "Galaxy Nexus".
If you want an un-biased answer, go to a neutral forum. Or a different forum entirely, like a gaming forum or something. You may get realistic answers.
With that said, go with the Nexus. I had iPhone for 5 months. I felt like I had a phone that could only do calls and texts. Nothing like the machines that are Android.
I knew I would get an answer like that eventually. I've asked on multiple forums on multiple sites the verdict has primarily been go with the Nexus. Which I did btw, I just wanted to hear it from the horse's mouth before I did. Thank you though

are you a tinkerer? coming from an iphone, android os is going to be a challenge in and of itself. rooting and flashing roms is whole other challenge. if you are pretty set on rooting and having all the bells and whistles afforded by mods and roms, then get the galaxy nexus. the dev support is second to none. if you are wanting to just run stock, then get the S3.
i got my wife an S3. i have phone envy. the S3 is a NICE phone. let me rephrase that, the S3 is a REALLY NICE phone. she didn't want it rooted and i didn't want to have to mess w/ her phone since i rooted the her last 2 phones and it got to be a pain upkeeping her phone with latest roms and updates. the S3 stock unrooted running Nova launcher kicks all kinds of butt. yes she gives up a few perks from not being rooted, but the S3 is a perfectly fine phone stock.
since i like running stock rooted roms, i would gladly take an S3 over a galaxy nexus. screen, radio, processor and battery life are better than the nexus. nothing against the nexus. the S3 is just a better phone. and being it was release about 7 months after the nexus, i would expect no less. and hopefully the nexus to be released in 4Q will be nicer than the S3.
tl;dr version. if you are hell bent on rooting and running custom roms, get the nexus. if just running stock or even just a stock rooted rom, get the S3.

In our house we just switched from Sprint to T-Mobile. Not wanting to be trapped into another 2 year deal, we bought the GS2 (I know you said 3) and a Galaxy Nexus. The GS2 was $299 and the GN was $349, so pretty comparable. The GN is awesome, but the GS2 camera seems to be far superior, so I would guess the GS3 is equal or better. However, software wise, nothing will beat a Nexus device. You won't go wrong with either phone, but if price and software are important to you, do yourself a favor and get the Nexus. If price is no object and you don't really care about OS updates, then the GS3 might be a better route.

I think it's safe to assume most people that have moved from a Nexus to an S3 wouldn't continue to lurk in the Nexus forums. Probably best to ask in the S3 forums :good:
I love my Nexus and will always stay Nexus for the stock Android experience and abundance of ROMs. That said though I did try a S3 4g/LTE model today and was MIGHTY impressed with how snappy it was with Jellybean.
I've been tempted several times. Its the physical buttones that are holding me back.
I recently had the chance to get it myself. But I couldn't do it. I was looking at the aosp development, and from what I'm used to it was weak. I could live with touchwiz but I just don't like it. The physical keys where also a downer. Just something I wouldn't like to give up. And since i already have a quad core tablet there really was nothing besides a better camera and even then the gnex camera is pretty good I don't listen to what others say I know what I've seen it do.

He was talking about AOSP. If there was still confusion, he posted specifically that he was talking about AOSP, over an hour before you posted.

have you even tried a gs3? even though the gnex is really smooth, the s3 is pretty much on par with their touchwiz.

For the last time im not on about ****wizzzz im on about pure Google Android like cm10

I have both and most of the time use my s3 for the battery life. If I want to try something new or interesting I'll usually do it on the nexus. As far as bad aosp goes I'm not sure what you're smoking, we get nightly cm10 builds consistently. I'm currently running the m2 release and it's perfectly suitable for every day use. Prior to this I was running paranoid and it was great. M2 just has better battery life. Also while they do get worse battery life than touch wiz it's still better than my nexus.

lolno.
Well a lot of people I know have the s3. A lot.
Anyway...I've had a lot of opportunities to play with it. It is very very very fast first and foremost!
I've mostly played with the ICS versions. So smooth and a real joy to use. The nature UX is also very nice. Its one of the best android skin I've used from any OEM I think. They finally moved away from trying to mimic the IOS look and feel with the UI which is good.
I've tried the jellybean version of the s3 just once and to be honest I could not tell a big difference. That's because the s3 is awesome with speed and responsiveness even with ICS.
The screen is excellent also, and the feel and look of the handset in the hand is nice. It looks a lot like the galaxy nexus with buttons.
I would not move to the s3 as a full time replacement for the galaxy nexus however. Simple reason being that I had the galaxy note and waiting for ICS and Jellybean was not my thing.
I'm too comfortable with quick stock updates from my nexus s days. Plus the main reason also...the galaxy nexus is insanely fast and smooth already!

Better keep your money for next new nexus model. Not much different.

keep ur money and wait for the new one.
Not much of an upgrade....save your money for the NX5/Moto X
The N4's glass back will give you heaps of worries
If I had fully working gnex perhaps I would wait until n5 or maybe go for s4 or HTC one. But since it died and I didn't had unlimited funds I went for n4...and I am really happy, I would never downgrade. It's blazing fast, screen is awesome. Even voice quality (in call) seems higher. Of course it has its flaws, but which device hasn't? Wifi and data signal are as weak as on gnexus. Yeah glass back but that's what cases are for. Maybe it's not a huge upgrade in terms if camera (still very average) but it is a noticeable difference overall . For me N4 feels like Gnex on steroids. Exactly what I was looking for and I don't need much more.

Hey man. I recommend you keep your current phone and wait for the next Nexus. The N4 has a problem registering touches and can be frustrating. A lot of owners will deny it, but if you have someone else try it out they will notice.

If you want to buy a device which really makes a difference and shows even more ambition in supporting custom roms, have a look at the oppo find 5.
It even features the custom roms:

Huge advantage. I have the 16gb n4 and its amazing. Sleek build quality with a quad core processor that blows away the gnex. The extra gig of ram is nice too. Side by side my n4 is 4x as fast as my gnex

I've had the GalNex for about a year and I recently jumped to the N4. I can tell you that you WILL notice a performance jump. I'm not sure why but GN lags when it's running 4.2.
If you can stand the GN, keep it. If you can't, get the N4.

Yeah. I'm not sure if it's a device related or what.
My phone will take 5 minutes to start an app after running CM10 for about 3 weeks. It lags so badly I have to wipe it every month.
