Hi all,
I'm currently protecting my xoom with the typical book-like leather case that protects everything (back, edges, screen...) but I find it too heavy and big in my hands, specially compared to the 'plain tablet'.
I've thought of buying a simple TPU case (protects back and edges) but this won't allow me to put the tablet in 30º to write, as I currently do with my case.
The best idea would be a case like ipad's 2 smartcase, that covers the screen and allows putting the tablet at 30º for writing... do you know of something similar (including homemade hacks) to it?

Hi.
Thanks for answering, but that does not solve the main problem: with that cover, you can't put the tablet at 30º for writing.
The one you linked is also made from SILICONE, which attracts dust as hell. In case of buying a "silicone-like" case, I'd recommend those made from TPU :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermoplastic_polyurethane
Like those:
But they have the same problem, you can only leave them "plain" at the tablet, not like:
(See minute 0:20).
Thanks anyway for answering.
Probably can't be done because Apple would have a cry and send lawyers out on a rampage.

There are some thirdparty "smart covers" and they are not "sued" (example: targus)...
I can't adapt them to the XOOM due to 4:3 vs 16:9
Notice that the above is exactly what I'm looking for: like a TPU case + smartcover...
Thanks
I am also looking for this!
I found this while searching for a case on Ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Folio-Leath...?pt=US_Tablet_Accessories&hash=item4ab85b8c18
anyone tried it?
Does the Xoom even have the magnet sensor to turn on the display?

I have one of these case, and it's too much weight and "size" for a tablet.
That's why I'm looking for a "smart-cover-like" case.

No, but I wasn't asking for that feature; just cover the screen and being able to put the tablet at 30º for writing will be enough for me

Hi.
Official motorola's portfolio case is rated very badly by people in almost every forum/webpage I've seen.
I'd prefer the one you linked. In fact, I have one of these. They are very good when you take away the tablet a lot from home, because it protects the screen and the back with a rigid "leather" cover.
The problem is that weights too much (adds about 200-300gr to the xoom's weight) and that makes the tablet bigger in size (width x height). That's why I was looking an smart-cover-like case for home, because I put the xoom in the shelve (as a book) and I just need the screen to be protected while still being able to put it at 30º for writing...

Well, I use Moto Portfolio case and it's really good I really recommend it! My friends with another tablets already asked me where can they find one, because they liked it... So there's my opinion: buy one Moto Portfolio Case and a BT keyboard for typing, it looks amazing

I use use this one, looks like you are reading/carrying an old book. It has a few turn-able pages to add to the deception. As for the design, this case is awesome. But when I read the reviews, people said this case material is really bad, started to peel just after first months or so And as of the price, err, better keep looking for other case
I use the Motorola Portfolio, it's great!
I just purchased the Incipio Premium Kickstand. Love it!
I have a Zoogue genius case.. sturdy, protective and virtually any angle of adjustment means it's perfect for changing positions away from a table.. 5 stars.

Hi Guys,
Just wondering what cases you guys are using, and whether you have any recommendations at all?
I just picked up a brand new Galaxy W for a very good price on eBay and am interested in using the Galaxy W daily for a while, trying out some of the Development in this section.
I have an outdoors job so prefer bulky/rugged cases, but would love to hear your thoughts on any and all cases, and some photos if you are able!
Cheers! :good:
I got this on Amazon a few months ago:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0075VZORQ
It's just made of semi-hardened "gel" plastic, but I've dropped the phone numerous times since I got the case and it's protected it perfectly IMHO.
I don't know what the postage/shipping to Australia will be, but if it's cheap, it may be worth a go?

yep, as ilyamodder says, it fits perfectly, all the ports are accessible (the usb port cover can be a bit hard to open with big fingers, but I just take the cover off when charging )
Got it and a bunch of styluses (stylii? ) for just under €10 inc postage, though postage will be a bit more for you
The case itself does make the phone slightly more bulky though (which is usually no bad thing imho)
I recommend the case highly :good:

i bought nillkin snap on cover, waste of money at least to me..make the phone dont feel nice to hold
Any case will do fine but for the best protection choose a TPU-Gel case. If you wanna choose another kind rather than gel, make sure that case covers the top and bottom otherwise your top part will get dented like mine

I love NillKin gear. They make very sexy cases and the best screen protectors on the market. Unfortunately, the hard snap-on cases don't protect top and bottom, which is a definite no-go for me Do you know if they do a TPU for the Galaxy W? I have the smoked TPU for my One X, and it's amazingly good quality.
EDIT: I just found, and bought, my favourite NillKin case ever:

Exactly my thoughts friend Coverage on all sides is very important to me, I am very fussy about scratches on my toys!
I ended up going with these ones:
The all-black looks pretty good!
Keep the suggestions coming, I love to see how you guys protect your toys!
the black one is the one i have
guess the seller i bought it off on Amazon "renamed" it in the description
great case, enjoy it!
juzz86,
nillkin definately very good quality, the plastic feel very nice..all the cutout too are nicely cut just i dont like the feel..should bought tpu instead
I've used Capdase on my previous phones and will definitely use it for my Wonder.
I have just received my Galaxy Wonder.
I have to say, this is a very impressive little handset. I usually use a Note, but the performance and pocket-ability of this little beauty is excellent!
You guys are onto a good thing here :good:
I'm using a nice slim leather slip case (eBay Item number: 390401480600).
It is a good snug fit and offers decent protection.I think that it is actually meant for an iPhone 3G as they are very, very similar in size to the SGW, and doesn't have one of those pull tabs which eventually polish a strip on back of your phone from repeated use.

Nice to hear. Are you using the stock rom or CM9?
I am interested , because i found the performance on the stock ROM was more average than outstanding.
Thus, it's good to hear the opinion of someone who used the Galaxy Note a while.

To be honest I was expecting it to be quite poor by comparison. Happy to report that I was very surprised after having a play. At least on the i8150T, the stock ROM optimisation seems to be very good. Homescreen transitions are nice and smooth, in fact everyday performance in general has been quite good.
It stumbles with Live Wallpapers, and of course the older Adreno doesn't do games particularly well, but I didn't grab it for games. Funnily enough, when I flashed a de-branded ROM onto it, I felt a few more stutters than I did on the Vodafone ROM. So after losing 850 HSPA I've gone back to stock Voda and left it alone.
I'm.really happy with it
I used to use a Capdase case. Quite sturdy: it enables my phone to survive the hands of my 1.5 y.o. boy (who loves to launch things off his hands onto the cold, hard floor). It has cut-outs big enough for a Blackberry charger to charge my W.
I'll post a pic when I get home.

I also use capdase. From the very first day I bought my Galaxy Wonder, capdase case had been protecting it. I just hate when dusts come in. But anyway, when it comes to protection, Im quite satisfied with what the capdase offers.

I'm actually using the Xyboard 10.1 OEM folio with Bluetooth keyboard. It's a little tight getting it to fit at first but it works well. The camera and buttons don't line up with cutouts and such, but not an issue for me. Do you use a screen protector with this case or is it safe to use without one?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4
I posted this in the cases thread, but figured it might be more useful here:
I picked up both the MoKo and Blurex versions of the 6 claw case. From a quick look at the pictures I would have thought they were exactly the same, just with different logos. While they are the same design, there are actually a bit different. Here is a brief comparison:
I liked the Blurex design a bit better because it was thinner and lighter plus the angle of the first tilt position was more vertical.
The Blurex is a tad thinner/smaller in most dimensions. We are just talking about 10-50mm in various areas, but when you add it all up, it just feels thinner, more compact and lighter.
MoKo felt like it offered a little more protection though you get a tiny bit of extra bulk.
MoKo is like the big brother (just 1yr older though) and Blurex is the lite version.
Blurex has the first tilt slot start right after the elastic handle ends. Moko has it start about 3/4" after the handle ends. Where I normally use the tilt feature (nightstand) the MoKo made it feel like I was looking at an angle rather than directly at the screen. I needed to move my head higher above the tablet location to get the proper angle, which was not comfortable to do in bed looking at a nightstand.
The MoKo has more precise coverage along the edges though. Blurex just leaves a little more of the edges exposed (I am talking 10-15mm difference)
The material is also different. Moko uses the soft-touch material and Blurex is the more traditional grained material. The soft-touch feels a little better, but I wouldn't trade the slightly bulkier design for the soft-touch material.
It is one of those cases where if I just looked at the two cases side-by-side I would probably choose MoKo, but after using them a little, I would choose Blurex.
The are both very good products though so this is just based on my priorities rather than something being inheritently wrong with the products.

I ordered a different case the other day, saw this and thought, "Oh crap." But looking at it closer, there isn't much there for $50. More like for someone whose ordering a N7 and getting a case at the same time.
Have not seen the auto on/off as confirmed or not for the Google case.

I have the Poetic and the smart cover aspect of it works just fine with the 2013 nexus 7.
With that said, fifty bucks for this seems a bit absurd... smart cover support or not.
dislike....
Well did not like this flip one for N7(2013)...Simply why would I use that....did not like it that much and not even worth of its cost too...$ 50 for this flip case..its quite steep cost of Google....

It does, well on my LTE, so I assume also on the wifi only ones. Hold a magnet near the bottom right of the screen and see for yourself.

It does. Asus just don't make cases with the magnets in them.
My official Google case came in today. I purchased the black model. Here is a list of first impressions:
This case looks great, by far the best looking case I've seen (I have had the Moko, Poetic Slimline, and ASUS cases).
The case fits the Nexus 7 very tightly.
The material is very nice. Feels great in the hand. Much better than my Poetic Slimline
There is nothing to keep the case closed besides the weight of the screen cover (it's noticeably thicker than the cover on my Poetic case). That being said, it can come open.
This case does not have sleep/wake functionality.
The angle of the tablet when standing up is really nice, make it much easier to view when sitting on the desk.
I'd love if this case had magnets to keep the cover closed and for sleep/wake. However, it is so much better looking than the Poetic that I think I'll just live without that functionality. Right now, it is my primary case.

Thats so disappointing... So many other companies add it in, you'd think they would too.
I think Apple has a patent on the magnetic smart cover so it might be that Google just doesn't want to get into it.
Thin?

How slim or light is it compared to the Slimline?

It can't be that, because the Nexus 10 has an official magnetically-operated smart cover that wakes and sleeps the device.

It is slightly heavier and thicker than the Poetic Slimline.
Here is a quick hands on from Droid Life: http://www.droid-life.com/2013/10/10/first-look-nexus-7-2013-official-google-play-case/
Meh I'll stick with my Portenzo Book cover with a elastic strap and magnetic sleep/wake = $25
Well I would prefer to go with poetic slim rather than with this one...poetic is much better some around on comparison with that one and more over its not much expensive and worth of its cost too...

Yes it does: my Noreve-case has this functionality!

Another forum had a sample case and tried removing it the wrong way, they ended up separating the back cover and even cracked the portion above the USB port.

yup - droid-life.com
Kellen broke the nexus, but he managed to get it snapped back together. Said the fit was perfect, but so much so that atking it off, if done incorrectly, can break the tablet apart
Can anyone compare it to ASUS Premium Cover then? just wonder which is better,..
Hey everyone, I just wanted to share with you guys this sweet new case I just got for my new Nexus 5. Its from Bear Motion, and it is a very thin case. It has a really unique texture, which feels like sand/ sandpaper only not as rough as you think. the case has a really small lip on the front so you can place your phone face down without having your screen touch. I'm really loving it. it feels really good in the hand because it doesn't add that much bulk to your phone. I searched far and wide for a case like this. I highly recommend it. best of all i got it for like 5$ on amazon.
Yes, these cases are great.

I got one too. I also got the bear motion non-sand version as well. Their nice, but do not give near as much grip as the ringke rearth slim does. Maybe I haven't used them long enough to let hand oils soak in? The sand version feels wild. Nothing like actual sand. More like very felt, very short cut felt. I like having many different cases to try, but so far the Ringke slim is the best imo. Thanks for sharing

Is the rough texture on the interior of the case too? This case sounds interesting, very grippy, but I would be afraid it would damage the finish of the phone.
Yeah I didn't order the bear motion one because they didn't have it in black. I do really like the quicksand style, so I ordered a generic quicksand case off ebay in black, and like 3 other types of hardcases. The quicksand is pretty much the exact same thing as the Poetic and Bear, minus the branding. Probably all made in the same factory anyway. Can't go wrong with 4 cases for like less than 10 bucks shipped! Only thing is it takes a month to get here.
Would be interesting to compare the Bear Motion branded one with the non branded ebay ones.

Yet another hard case that leaves the top and bottom edges exposed. They seem to be all the rage these days.

I did a review of a bunch of generic ebay cases here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2577289. It also included the generic version of the Bear Motion/Poetic Quicksand cases. I'm pretty sure like I mentioned earlier that they're the exact same cases, from the same factories, without the company branding on it.
$0.99 SHIPPED!!!

*Just noticed how dusty my desk is...
Just got a green one today for my white Nexus and gotta say I'm loving it so far! It looks and feels great. I just hoping it provides okay protection... Yesterday I dropped my phone for the first time and my Diztronic case proved to have GREAT drop protection (no damage from a waist high fall, screen first!). Obviously the Bear Motion obviously isn't meant to protect from drops but hopefully it will be better than nothing. Anyways, sweet case and definitely a favorite out of all (5) of my cases
If someone can prove that the ebay cases are the same, minus the branding, I'll definitely pic up some more colors!

Yeah I'm not going to take you up on that offer. No reason for me to spend more (when I spent the best $0.99 on a case ever haha), just to find out if a case with a Bear Motion stamp is the same as my generic one! I don't think a 20x price increase (original price) + shipping is worth it for me to test 10 letters of white ink.
Here's some easy "evidence."

Generic ebay quicksand:
Bear Motion from Amazon:

Hmmm, interesting haha. Exact same color choices. Even down to the watermelon pink orange that they say is orange. I ended up getting that "orange" as well from ebay, thinking the color was.... well orange.

Hmmm, interesting again! Same wood type/wood grain used as a backdrop for the case.
You know, some crazy person might even come to some weird conclusion that it's almost as if they were the exact same case! Possibly, with pictures taken from the same factory location, one before stamping, and another afterward! This is tough detective work though, I don't think anyone will ever truly know the answer to this mystery! :highfive:
