[Q] Shows Up As Samsung Galaxy Nexus On GooglePlay Store - Build.prop Recovery Needed - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I messed up with my build.prop in the system/build.prop now my device shows up as samsung galaxy nexus on the googleplay website on the computer.
If anyone knows a solution to this it'll be nice
If someone could post their stock rom build.prop from Telus that'll be great!

I think you just need to change the one line back to this using root explorer

That line is already like that.
Would unrooting work?

When you changed your build.prop did you do it with root explorer ? If so, it usually makes a backup .bak file. You can then delete build.prop and rename build.prop.bak to build.prop. There seems to be a few places where model is located in build.prop
Unrooting wouldn't help since the changes are already made and would stay that way.

I flashed the DIET ICS rom so not sure where i would find build.prop.bak

It'll be nice if someone with the Telus variant to post their stock build.prop using dropbox/box or something similar its not even a 1mb and should be quick.

Do u have Root explorer ? If so go to systems and u will see your build.prop and underneath it should be the build. prop. back folder.

Ya I'm using solid explorer and there's no build.prop back folder just build.prop and other folders.
I'm sure theres a few Telus users here... it doesn't even take a minute to use root explorer or any explorer like solid explorer to find the file and upload to a site. :/

I actually made a stock fresh nandroid backup right after I rooted and installed CWM. I went back to that but I guess the system file remained

Just pull the build.prop from the ROM zip that you downloaded.

Thats not the case here, that build.prop already replaced my old original build.prop and for some reason I can't get it back even though I'm on my stock root which I nandroided back to.

bump

I'm guessing you tried to make google wallet work (since the hack make the phone report as a nexus). Even if not, the last step in this post shows the original values and what they should be.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1810118

It takes time for Play store to restore to correct values.
Mine has shown as HTC jewel since I did the wallet update last week. I even tried restoring an older TB version of play store and no luck.
My build prop is correct, just not updating on Play store.

Silent Camera App

Before when i was running EK02 I had a modified version of the default camera app where there was no shutter sound or focus beep. But since i got the EL29 update, the camera makes the sounds again. And when i push the modified camera apk into my system app folder, the camera force closes.
Does anyone have a working silent camera app for el29?
Here you go
Just follow the instructions. I'm on EL29 so I can vouch that it works flawlessly.
If you're comfortable editing the .apk yourself there's this.

Okay so the app works, but everytime i turn my phone off and back on it makes the camera force close so i have to go into root explorer and re install the apk everytime my phone turns off. Any way to fix that.
It's installed as a system app right with the permissions are set to rw-r-r (or 644)? Also try changing the owner and group to root. I would clear the camera data via Titanium backup and clear the dalvik cache in recovery then reboot. That' should take care of any issues. Granted I didn't have to do any of those things but everyones experience is different.
Also, which ROM are you running? This works on all aside from the ICS leaks. I ran it for quite a while now.

No problem. I edited the camera from Calkulin's 2.9 (EL29) rom to include all those improvements. Might work better for our phones. Here's the link to that thread too.
If you guys have a chance if you have not already check out Camera ICS in the market. It has an option for silencing camera and it also has a host of other features.
Just posting this as an option for others...
I know this is an old thread, but it's the only thing that search pulled up....
Is there a working silenced ICS camera for AOKP? All the cameras in this thread are incompatible.

Gallery app not working

How would someone go about getting the gallery app to show old pictures again. I'm willing to flash or restore or anything. The problem stays no matter what ROM or nandroid I have tried.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I'm gonna need a little more detail on your problem. Is your gallery app crashing? Or is it just not showing some of the pictures you have on your phone?
1) If the app itself is crashing, uninstall it with Titanium Backup and flash a version of Gapps that is compatible with your ROM
2) If it isn't showing files that you know for sure are on your phone's storage and are uncorrupted, try downloading and running an app called SDRescan from the Play Store.
3) If you deleted pictures and the Gallery isn't showing them, you're out of luck, unless you made a nandroid backup before the files were deleted.
Its number 2 the file path is correct for previously taking pictures and they show up in root explorer but not in the gallery
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
In that case, you should try SDRescan, it basically forces the phone to rescan the SD card for media files, if for some reason the phone is not automatically doing it.
For any media not showing up, back up the files themselves in a separate folder in the internal storage named anything random. Delete the original folder and contents. Reboot and recreate all folders you deleted, just as they were. Move copied content back to respective folders. Reboot once more. See if all of your media shows up properly.
My guess is you did what I did. Backed up stuff to your PC and moved all the folders back to your internal. Seems to cause issues for Android when trying to scan the folders for media. Not sure why. I spent most of today correcting this after receiving my replacement Nexus.
Sent from my AOSP Android 4.1.1 Galaxy Nexus
I tried to use sdrescan but it just says processing for ever. This happened when flashing a new ROM. It was messed up in the flashed ROM then when I restored to a previous ROM that was working it stopped working there as well.

Mine's not working either. I have a ton of pictures I took last night in Las Vegas on the strip, they're all in my DCIM>CAMERA folder, but will not appear if trying to view them in the gallery app. I tried the app mentioned above, no luck. Also I tried copying all the images in DCIM into a new folder I created on the /sdcard, deleted the DCIM folder, rebooted, snapped one shot with camera to re-create DCIM, and only that image shows in gallery. Didn't have this issue until I flashed the latest CM9 nightly. So, clearly I need help also to try to resolve this... Errgh.

If SDRescan did not work for you, I can only think of 3 other possible solutions.
1) Go into Settings, find the App settings, and clear data for Gallery then reboot.
2) Transfer all of your files to your PC and delete them from your phone. Rename all of the files (you can rename them all at once by selecting all the files, right clicking on one, and clicking rename) and then drag them back onto your phone.
3) Try installing a different gallery app. I have had good results with these two:

clockwork mod...1970?

anyone know a workaround for this? the bad thign about it is I often will flash multiple roms/have different backups and forget which one is which...which is the most recent etc. Why does it date as 1970 even though my clock and everything is fine? Would manually setting the clock (vs from the network) resolve this issue?

I haven't been able to find a version of CWM that doesn't do this for this phone. All I've been doing is just renaming the backup once it's complete, usually just to something like CM10_BACKUP_NOV16 or STOCK_BACKUP_NOV16. Can be renamed from your phone's file manager.

There is a tool somewhere which will regenerate the MD5 sum after you rename the folder. Maybe someone else, or a search, could point you in the right direction.
It might have been Rom Toolbox in the market by JRummy

I was using twrp 2.2 for a while and some roms had problems flashing, especially ones with graphical installers like Ariel. I updated to the latest clockwork mod recovery and things have been fine ever since. twrp updated since then so the issues might be resolved but I haven't seen any reason to switch back. I am a linux admin don't need a touch based interface on my recovery environment.
This is BETTER than a workaround:
Online Nandroid Backup
WHY?
- dates are correct
- no need to boot into recovery mode to perform backup
- fast and organized, and easy to rename backups
- it's under good steady development for new FEATURES.
- auto updating of script
(There is a script and a gui dev...make sure to thank them both)
(You don't need CWM to create backup, but you do need CWM to restore)
Date issue comes from device issue
According to the TWRP2 page for the AT&T GS3,
Date/time in recovery will always be wrong due to a device issue that cannot be fixed.

I assume that this is what is effecting my CWM backup names. Sounds like some to just live with and workaround....

[Q] Trying to change water drop sound on phone dialer - failing

For the Doink sound in the dialer you have to decompile the SecContacts.apk and replace a file in the raw folder. I was able to do it this way. The EXACT file location is: SecContacts.apk/res/raw/touch.ogg For some reason just replacing it via a VR theme just causes the contacts to force close. So just replacing the touch.ogg for the dialer is not as easy as with the other touch sounds

Well poo, that sounds almost more difficult than just flashing a rom Thanks for the information I'll need to learn how to decompile an .apk, by chance do you have an already modded .apk that I could have?

Running stock, rooted DLK3. I uploaded the files to my dropbox but I'm not totally sure that this will work hopefully this link takes you there: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ffoleq0eltllylv/YGsUFphin1
If that doesn't work PM my your email and I'll invite you through dropbox.
Thanks for doing this, very cool!
Give me a few to upload it but I made a stock lk3 SecContacts.apk with it already fixed with a different tone/click sound.
Here you go http://d-h.st/8ee
1.Just download it and use Root Explorer to move it to system and paste
2. Long press and set the permissions to rw/r/r
3. Long press again and MOVE
4. navigate to system/app and paste
5. Hit yes to overwrite
6. Reboot phone
If you cannot do the above steps let me know and I will make a cwm flash able zip

Thanks that totally worked! This really makes switching to a different ROM less tempting. Question on that however, if I make a nandroid now with the custom sounds and restore to it I will have the same custom sounds? I know that should be the case but I just want to be sure.
Again thanks for making that .apk, very cool of you!
It is the SecContacts.apk for UCDLK3 so it is a complete .apk so it will only work as long as your using it on the same firmware. So if you switch to a different firmware it probably would not work. As far as performing a nandroid then yes if you restore a nandroid it will still be there. But if you switch to something like aokp,cm10., or another Sammy based firmware it won't work. One would have to be built from whichever firmware you are using.
