My update to 4.1.b.0.431 over air fail on my Sony Xperia Arc S. Pc Companignon tells me I tampered with software. I did some rooting some time ago but actually thought I was on the official ROM again.
Is it possible to flash back to an official ROM and receive future updates over the air again? Or did ruined that path the first time i was flashing ?
Right now im on
android version 4.0.3
build number 4.1.A.0.562
Thanks
Use the flashtool to update. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1653188
Do you have unlocked bootloader? If yes, relock it.

you can flash 2.3.4 firmwares {ftf} again via flashtool to downgrade..!!
Sorry for the noob question but can i use flashtool to downgrade back to GB even if my bootloader is lock?
Yes, but you can downgrade to 2.3.4 only. You will risk damaging the fuel gauge(0% battery problem) if you downgrade to an earlier version.
Yes, using flashtool flashes the stock kernel/firmware. If your bootloader's unlocked you could use pc companion to repair the phone if the official ICS isn't available in your area yet.

Where can i get 2.3.4 generic for all regions?
Actually since you upgraded to ICS doing the repair via PC Companion will detect that you have the ICS version on your smartphone and will download, wipe and install the ICS even it if the ICS update is not available in your area.
I know because I did a repair job because I want to wipe it clean with a fresh install of the ICS and I am happy with it. So it will not repair and install GB 2.3.4.
As commented flashtool and download the GB 2.3.4 on here to downgrade.
where can i download generic ics ftf file?
hey everyone,
I updated my Xperia Arc to ICS via the sony pc companion update. But how do I root this version? Should I go back to gingerbread and root it or is there a way to root it directly, without going back?
Thanks.
If you have firmware 4.1.b.0.431 for ICS 4.0.4 then https://www.google.com.au/#hl=en&sc...=667&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&cad=b or just search what ever firmware you have on google or xda
if you have ics 4.0.3 then u can root it using doomlords oneclick root method. if it is 4.0.4 then u need to flash kernel of 4.0.3 and then root and then u can come back to kernel of 4.0.4 by flashing just the orignal kernel again. or you can download a ready to root 4.o.4 ftf and then flash it on your phone using flashtool.
for 4.0.3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1601038
for 4.0.4(ready to root) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1683957
you can root your phone using these simple 3 methods in Here.
Does it void our warranty ?

well i am not 100% sure but i think that rooting wont void your warranty. unlocking bootloader voids your warranty because, root does not remain if you flash another firmware however, an unlocked bootloader is permanaent irrespective of what ever you install on it.
this was my logic however, remember dev's have shown how a bootloader can be relocked. get more info from here http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/
Hi everyone, I just flashed again the 4.1.B.0.431 .ftf after some problems with custom roms.
PC Companion and the phone itself notified me about the update to 4.1.B.0.587. If I remember correctly, updating through PC Companion/OTA will brick my device because I have an unlocked bootloader? Or should I update without any worries?
Thanks.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1304634
yes, your phone will be bricked, using flashtool is easier and safer!
With unlocked bootloader you will brick the device DO NOT UPDATE OVER THE AIR.
Lock bootloader then update., or follow stickies guide to update and root. 587

Jelly Bean was released. So, If I update phone (with DooMLorD leaked JB rom) using PCC I dont brick it? Or I have to wait FTF and flash it?

If you flashed DooMLorD's rom, and want to update to the official version, then you can just flash the ftf, when it is released by sony.

You wont brick the Update Service will say : " Modified system file " and wont update your phone, you can either flash FTF or relock Bootloader install with Update Service and then unlock it again for further modifications.... Still better love story than twilight
Or if you are too excited and want to try updating using PC companion then you can first flash stock ICS with flash tool and then flash the relocking ftf posted by doomlord. Then you can safely update your phone using PC companion

And some tweks.
I already knew that Sony did upgrade to Android 4.1 JB, but my sony companion keeps telling me that I have the updated system.
What can I do to get the latest version?
I have to do the factory reset?
Is there another way to get the latest update?
Will I lose root and CWM?
