I'm looking to edit the stock MMS.apk, and replace the green smileys with the real emoji that are supposed to be used.
I've tried editing the apk through apkmanager and apktool, both on a PC and mac, with no success, so I'm asking someone to do this task for me.
I have already found the correct emoji.png files, and I've put them into a folder which I am going to attach to this post. All I need [you] to do is put them into /res/drawable-xhdpi through reengineering (apkmanager/apktool)
Thanks to anyone who can do this! (I'm on the 10/5 nightly of CM10 w/ franco.kernel if that makes a difference)

Not sure which version of the phone you have but this MMS has the emoji support http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1745830 if you have the GSM model like me you can use the ICS version of his app (unfortunately I couldn't seem to find it just now) I believe there is a stock version of the ICS mms but I won't swear on it. The mms.apk doesn't replace the green androids that you would normally make it gives you the emoji's separatly. Even has a quick support button to get to them fast. Hope this helps you
I found this thread googling for the exact same thing. I can't stand the green emoji and after reading a few threads I finally decided to just try doing it myself. Turns out it was incredibly easy. Here is the latest mms (11/10) pulled from justunbean's inverted apps (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1797292) with the hideous green emoji replaced with the stock iphone-ish ones. Here is the apk and also a cwm flashable zip of it.
You shouldn't need to use apk manager or apk tool for images just open the apk put the images where they go and make sure they are named correctly.

Wow. Very nice. But I really hate the inverted MMS (to each his own), and you said it was very simple to do, but I spent 1-2 hours on it and could not get it to work properly, so do you think you could do the same with the stock MMS.
MMS.apk attached, from the CM10 nightly that I'm running (11/5 I believe)

Here you go..takes about 3 seconds now that I figured out what to do. For anyone curious you just right click the .apk and open it with 7zip, browse to \res\drawable-xhdpi\ and select all of the files that start with emoji_ and delete them then just drag the ones you want in. The ones I used were from an older apk so all the names were the same, just extract the good ones and drop them into the apk with 7zip.

Yeah.... I'm on a mac... And I can't seem to find an application that replicates these features.

Hmm.. I seem to be having trouble. I've tried replacing my MMS.apk in system/app with both of the .apk files you have posted, but both times, the MMS.apk app disappears, and when I click on it to attempt to install it, I get an error with parsing the package.
Also, I tried flashing your invertedmms.zip, which didn't work and I also used an empty flashable with the non-inverted themed apk file you posted, which also didn't work. I'm going to play around with it a little more to try and find something that does work.
EDIT: I finally got it to work, just had to sign the apk.
***Unfortunately, the apk you had uploaded the 2nd time was actually the same one you uploaded the first time... The inverted one...***
EDIT 2: NVM. Used apk manager to extract/zip/change back to apk, and I successfully have an MMS.apk with all iOS emoji (still lacking the iOS 6 emoji, which will be my next project)

You can't simply install system apps. Try placing it in system/app, making sure it's named correctly (and that the old one is named something different or deleted), setting permissions to rw-r-r, and rebooting. If that doesn't work, there's probably some ROM incompatibility.

Not sure how mine worked then.
What my process was:
1. Download nightly build of CM10 (same version as one running on my phone)
2. Extract .zip file of CM10 rom, and find MMS.apk
3. Using APK Manager, extract apk file.
4. Replace emoji files in drawable-xhdpi as needed.
5. Zip apk using apk manager (now have unsigned-mms.apk)
6. Using this tool I signed the apk file.
7. Use bluetooth and send "unsigned-mms-signed.apk" to phone.
8. Install app from solid explorer.
9. Insert emojis as needed.

Yup. So I found that rebooting took it away, so I just took my apk that I found that was working after an install and dragged it into /system/app and renamed it to mms.apk
Is anyone interested in me making this an (un)official release in themes&apps?

I'm not sure how I would do this, because I think you need to add some things to the arrays.xml, because when I looked there the code had something along the lines that was
If character=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, then emoji=yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
or something like that
I'm not sure where I would find those values for the iOS6 emoji, but if someone knows how to do this, I will gladly go through the handcent emoji extension and find all the new iOS6 emoji for you and give them to you in a .zip.
I'm another dude that hates those green little creatures...I wanted some normal smileys , the basic ones not the extra emojis, and none of the apk in this thread did it for me...so I made one: it is stock with the green smileys replaced with the HTC ones ,the ones used in this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=40647802#post40647802 .
Soo i went over an old patch that i had for my GS3 to find out exactly what files were swapped and replaced from sprints verson..
and this is what i came up with...
system/lib.............
libnfc_ndef.so
libnfc_jni.so
libnfc.so
system/lib/hw
nfc.MSM8960.so
system/etc
nfcee_access.xml
system/app
NFC.apk
NFCTest.apk
.........................................................................................
With them files swapped onto our Tmobile builds, with the addition of build.prop edited to sprints Galaxy nexus, Google wallet in fact worked>>
I went and took the same approach with our Galaxy S4.. except some files were a little different..
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I started wallet up with no tweeks/mods and got an error that its not currently available for my device... I then modded the build.prop to...
ro.product.model=SPH-L720
ro.product.name=jfltespr
ro.product.device=jfltespr
I chose sprints galaxy s4 build because i dont wanna lose s voice drive by changing my build to a nexus.. I wanna keep all features working..
I opened wallet up and it did not say that same warning. This time it said something about insecure elements and force closed. So obviously like the S3, a tweak needs to be made..
in the system/app folder, i replaced..
NFCNci.apk
NFCNci.odex
NFCTest.apk
NFCTest,odex
system/lib
libnfc-nci.so
libnfc-nci_jni.so
(there were only 2 files in this folder regarding NFC)
system/lib/hw
nfc_nci.MSM8960.so
system/etc
nfcee_access.xml
.............................................................................................................
after all that, i rebooted.. Clicked on wallet, and wallet opened and prompted me to turn NFC on. When i did, settings force closed.. if i turn nfc on from the pulldown bar, it wont turn on. Sooo NFC is borked....
then i did the same thing MINUS the system/app files since maybe they have nothing to do with the permissions in wallet. i rebooted and now NFC works.. turns on, and does what its supposed to, but when i open wallet, it force closes. I then cleared wallet data, and the same thing,. it freezes and force closes.. I then uninstalled it and installed it again, same problem.
this is where i stand and because i am NOT a dev and dont know the first thing about what they do, i am now at a standstill. It was an honest effort of copying the same method used on the s3. If any devs sees anything wrong with i did, feel free to tell me, or pickup where i left off lol.
Any help would be appreciated . Thanks guys. I realize not many people have this device yet, but i wanted to post this to get the attention!
Im so glad u brought this up!! i brought this up earlier but no one paid attention to it. Would love to see google wallet on this phone as i also had it on my s3. Maybe something to do with knox security on phone?

yes u are right, i am just making sure.
if u are up for it i can give u some suggestions, do this at your own risk although the worst thing to happen will be that u have to ODIN stock firmware.
please make a nandroid backup before u try this and also install [RECOVERY] ClockworkMod Recovery 6.0.3.2 or TWRP for the TMO S4..being proficient with ADB will help also but not necessary. MAKE SURE TO MANUALLY BACKUP your EFS folder, i normally just add the EFS folder to ZIP using root explorer and save it to my PC.
ill post back in about 20 mins once download is finished, in meanwhile u can do above if u wish. let me know if u are interested in trying.

Try the following in the EXACT ORDER OF INSTRUCTIONS:
BACKUP your phone using Nandroid and backup your EFS folder just in case.
uninstall any version off Google wallet u have installed and be sure to clear data and cache when uninstalling.
change your build.prop to reflect the following:
Code:
ro.product.model=Galaxy Nexus
ro.product.name=yakju
ro.product.device=maguro
u may try the sprint s4 build.prop but im not sure yet if it will work, i guess u can experiment:
Code:
ro.product.model=SPH-L720
ro.product.name=jfltespr
ro.product.device=jfltespr
reboot after changing build.prop and saving with PROPER FILE PERMISSIONS
since u are running the odexed android system swap the following from the Odexed TMO S4 with the Odexed Sprint S4 files and be sure to SET PROPER FILE PERMISSIONS
system/app
----------
NFCNCi.apk
NFCNCi.odex

how did you "replace" the files? flash them? or use a file explorer....I am going to guess you used a file explorer other than root explorer and your permissions are wrong. from recovery you can use the (fix permisions) and that will sort them...
(or start over with root explorer)
oh yeah, if you are "testing" twrp, go get clockwork
going to need a logcat once it gets close....
UPDATE.. xeonox...
here is the flashable file i brewed together with the exact files to replace in which you stated
https://www.dropbox.com/s/pemlf59xrtckj41/GS4walletfixx.zip
you guys are more then welcome to download it and try for yourself or even see the files that i swapped over to confirm i did everything right, however i am certain that i did...
anyways i flashed it..... downloaded google wallet.. opened it.... it tells me that NFC is turned off and to turn it on...... went to settings, and seen that nfc toggle was off... I turned it on and Settings force closes..... i try to turn NFC on from the toggles up top and it wont turn on... Soo same issue as when i did it the first time i posted... hmmm
thank god i took your advice and backed up.. otherwise ide be ODINing right now back to stock lol..
soo wallet aside, something is causing NFC not to work, and i believe its the actual files themselves in the system/app folder
and to confirm NFC breaking, i flashed this file again, however with the system/apps untouched.....
NFC now works again..
HOWEVER
Wallet force closes when you try to open it
its very important that the permissions are correct. did u check using root explorer or similar app to make sure the permissions were correct?
Posting stock aosp browser that works with S4 (to me works better then Samsung and Chrome browsers). Move apk to system/app and fix permissions
Use this file along with above if you want your Browser.apk to sync with Chome desktop (dont forget to check sync in settings)
Thanks in advance for your help

Try without fixing, most likely will work too. I use Root Explorer app to move files and fix permisions. You do need to be rooted.
I've tried moving both files to /system/app and fixing permissions. When trying to launch browser it crashes. I tried both manually fixing permissions in root browser, and trying to fix permissions in recovery. Permissions match that of all the other apps that appear to be in /system/app directory.
I really like the AOSP browser so I'm willing to try other things to get this working. Do you think you could get both files into a flashable zip we could flash from recovery?
I will try to build one myself to see if I can get it working that way.
Follow the directions from this post....

Made a flashable zip that got it installed. Bookmarks don't appear to be syncing for me, but then again I really don't use chrome to have anything to sync. Someone want to confirm if that's working?

I'm not a DEV in any way, I just tinker with things. I take no responsibility for what this does or doesn't do to your device. I've tested this on my device, and can confirm it works, however I'm not perfect at these things. Flash at your own risk. As always make a backup first!

Zip is attached. Following along what they said in that other post.
Find and rename the following apk(inside the /system/app folder): BrowserProviderProxy.apk to BrowserProviderProxy.apk11 (or anything else really).
Do that before you install the zip file.
Just reboot to recovery and flash the zip.

Dont know what you guys are doing wrong. I am not a dev. I just moved those 2 files to /system/app/ and I have AOSP Browser and sync works fine (i am rooted on latest firmware by the way)
ps. also moved AOSP Keyboard with Dictionaries and it also works fine
Got sync for bookmarks to work. Forgot to check sync in settings. I think just moving the files probably would have worked if I had renamed the BrowserProviderProxy.apk in /system/app to begin with, but I had already started making the flashable zip. I figure it will be useful to someone at some point.
Thanks for the flashable zip I couldn't get it to work any other way.
My only question is why can I not rearrange my bookmarks? When I'm in the bookmark screen the menu button doesn't give me any options and long pressing on them doesn't give me the option to reorder them.

Sorry, I assume that there is some way to order them somehow, but I've never been able to figure that out.

anyone has an apk of the flashplayer to reinstall ?
UPDATED Now includes apps for MOAR
I redid the three apps for MK3, Odexed and DeoOdexed versions now available. SecContacts, SecGallery2013. I replaced the water drop sounds just like i did for MD4. I also made a flashable zip that replaces these apps, S_HW_Touch, and TW_touch (which replaces the general UI sound), as well as adding an alarm I use and an "old phone" ringtone. As always, make a backup of either the rom or seperate files before doing anything. Enjoy!
Use a root explorer to copy/paste to system/app, fix permissions and reboot.

I put up a different gallery apk. There was an extra click when choosing an album that I didn't like.
These apks are from version MD4. I don't know if they work on earlier versions. Just thought I'd throw that out there.
Good work

Whiplashh Rom
Look it up.
Thanks whiplashh, I'm having trouble getting secgallery2 to work though. I'm not sure what I did for the contacts apk, but I can't replicate it. I wish I had more time to mod and dev, I'd really like to get into making a rom.
I finally got it figured out.
I found more sounds to change in the Gallery apk. I'll post it in the morning.
What does the modified gallery include? Thanks.
The only thing I changed are the sounds when you touch the screen. I never liked the water/bubble sounds, so I changed them.
Alright, the new gallery apk is uploaded.
I have tried to replace both apk's with their updated counterparts from this thread and I cannot get them to work. The second I switch back to the original versions of contacts, gallery etc. they show back up in my app drawer. I renamed, then copied and pasted the new versions in the system/app folder and made sure the permissions were set, but they don't show up.
Did you reboot after copying them over? If you don't reboot then they won't be in there. You shouldn't need to rename anything either.
Has anyone else tried these and had the same problem?
If anyone else has tried these could you leave any input for me? Thanks all.

Just curious if you got it working or not?
No I have not gotten either one to work. I rename the originals so when files don't work like they're supposed to I can go back to a working version.

That's strange. So you leave the original apk and just rename it? I wonder if that's the issue. Have you tried copying it to a different folder then try the new one? That's what I did, that way I have a good original apk safe.
Through building my own rom I discovered why these aren't working. I will make new apps for anyone that wants them, otherwise I will have a mod close this thread. Thanks.
The new apps are in the op, they should work.
Thank you for this

Stock ANK4 T-Mobile ROM deodexed by jovy23 and debloated by myself. Really nothing else to say about it. Check out jovy23's thread for what he's done.
Instructions: Wipe everything in recovery (shouldn't need to tell you to backup first) and flash the zip. Done.

Nice! Thanks
It's been a long time , and seems like u changed carriers also ? Good to see your work again.
Cool
My Mobile Hotspot force closes upon enabling it. Can anyone confirm? Other than that, smooth like butter.
Can confirm. Hot spot FCs on trying to activate. Must've removed something necessary for it. Otherwise I love how light this rom is.
EDIT: I have jovy23's original rom on my phone. If anyone has any idea what app I'd have to reinstall to get the hotspot working again I'll grab it from there, put it into system/priv-app, change the permissions, and reboot to see if it works.
Ill fix up the hotspot today.

EDIT: Does S-Health work for you guys? Also I think that if were keeping S-Health we should also keep Samsung Galaxy Apps since it's the only way to update it.
I really like this rom. Two things though. Can anyone tell me what files I need to restore to get the Samsung Browser working and the Smart Select for the S-Pen? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: So I figured out the Smart Select but I still need to restore the samsung browser.
EDIT 2: I figured out the browser as well.
Also, is there anyway to get the Samsung Account integrated? I would like to download the extra camera filters. I realize that this is a debloated ROM, but if anyone has a link to re-install some of Sammy's apps, that would be greatly appreciated.
Edit: Found a zip file. =)
Ya'll are killing me man! Pro_b tell me what files you need to restore those functions and wheres that zip file Murphy71984? BTW does S-Health work for you guys? Doesn't for me and I figure it's because of the Samsung Account stuff.
really slimmed down thats how phones should come out of the box + the weather widget. I want the weather widget back, tried installing the app from another rom but it does not work properly.

I restored the files myself. I used good old fashioned google searching to figure out which files needed to be restored. But I'm glad the rom was built without them. I prefer how slim the rom is and what I wanted may not be what others wanted or needed.

I noticed that the dev of this rom also removed the libs along with the apps. You may need to find out if there're some missing lib files to s-health. At least that was the case when I added back the sbrowser.
How to re-enable smart select, the galaxy app store, tethering, and Samsung account.
This is how I got everything working. For smart select you grab Pinboard.apk from another rom (I grabbed everything from jovy23's original stock deodexed rom), place it in system/priv-app and change it's permissions to match the other apks there. I used ES file explorer for this with root explorer on and changing the system option to R/W (Tap on root explorer after turning it on to change this option). For the galaxy app store grab GalaxyApps_3xh.apk place it in the system/priv-app folder and change its permissions like before. Theres also a apk called SamsungAppsWidget_BannerStyle_common.apk which goes in system/app but I'm unsure if it's neccesary. If you are adding it just remember to change its permissions. For mobile Hotspot grab TetheringAutomation.apk and TetheringProvision.apk place them in system/app and change permissions. For the Samsung Account grab Samsungservice2_xxhdpi_RTL.apk place it in system/priv-app and change permissions. You are able to log in to the galaxy app store without this but it is necessary to get full access to your samsung accounts synching capabilities, like with s-health for example. Let me know if you need help with anything.
EDIT: Reboot after you've done everything!
Blame @ProTekk
Thanks man
