Hello,
I've noticed that at work when my phone is set to vibrate, if I plug in some headphones to listen to Youtube or whatever the sound is also muted. Is there an option to change this?
I came from an iPhone and when the phone was set to vibrate, when I plugged in my headphones i was able to adjust the sound.
any recommendations?

I can't be the only one experiencing this? Set your phone to vibrate, plug in your headphones, fire up Pandora, Spotify, Youtube etc and you hear nothing.
Only after you turn the volume up from vibrate will you be able to hear anything.
I must be missing something
Negative.
Just turned phone to vibrate, plugged in headphones, turned on pandora, and I'm hearing it fine.

Weird! For some reason that's not the case for me. Within Pandora the sound icon is set to vibrate yet no sound. When you click the volume button on the phone what do your settings look like?

When I have my headphones in I want to be able to hear a new email come in and if it rings, so have the phone on a loud setting.
Trouble is, this also makes the phone be loud and disturbs people around me with it blasting out of the speaker.
Can the phone be made quiet and still have it all through the headphones?
Ta
I don't know what is different on your side, but when a notification comes through while I have my headphones on and listening to music, the music dims, notification goes on and music goes back to normal. With an incoming call the music dims the same and the ringtone also plays through the headphones. When the call is finished, you just go on with the music.

Mmm interesting. So is your phone completely silent when this happens?
I've tested again and can't get my phone quiet but have notifications playing.
with your headphones plugged in - do you get a the headset icon on the top of the screen?

Yep. Tried it with physically connecting and via bluetooth and both times get the icon and both times plays through phone and headset.
Can anyone test theirs to make sure is not just me ...... Or if its Mr and I'm doing something wrong.

if you are using the headphones supplied from htc then i am not sure, if you are plugging in standard headphones direct then read this thread had similar problems and solved it with a £1.00 cable,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=667240
It also does this when connected with bluetooth which has no connection to the socket.
Does yours mute the phone?
No one has actually said if this happens to them or not yet.
My phone doesn't mute the external speaker when the original headphone jack is connected either.
I would have thought this is quitea big flaw. Who wants to hear the phone when you gave your headphones in?
AlsoI find it odd thatI haven't seen many people talking about the same issue.
It must be something that you have installed on the phone, I actually had a few bugs here and there with the phone in the beginning until i done a factory wipe on it and started again I was having a problem with the music player only playing until the screen timed out then stopping the music giving me a minute of music. never did solve it, reset the device and its never happened again.
Basically when i play music on mine it it will play through the speaker on the phone, then when i plug in the headphones it will play through the headphones muting the phone, in point of fact i cannot get it to play through the headphones and the onphone speaker at the same time at all. Then when the phone rings the ringing will be heard in my headphones and also it will sound on the phone at the same time turning my music down at the same time. then once the call is finished the music resumes automatically.
Either your phone is playing silly beggars like mine did in the beginning or you have an app installed that is causing the problems. if you reset it back to default and the problem still occurs then you may have a faulty handset.
Sorry I'm not quite sure I made myself clear.
If I have my headphones inI don't want anything to come from the phone speaker. Something that doesn't happen. I get the ringing and all notifications through my headphones aswell as the phone.
Why would you want the phone to blast out when someone calls out every time you get a text or email if you have headphones on? I'm glad I don't commute.
my phone's external speaker makes no noise with headphones attached..

Ta.
It would appear that I have a dodgy handset then.
As I did a factory reset just now.
I've tried with various headsets wired and Bluetooth and can't get it to be silent with headphones attached.
I'm going down to cpw tomorrow to sort it.

And so Michael it would appear that from what haggisuk99 is saying above, he too had a dodgy handset aswell as ragwo
Anyone else able to have headphones connected, have someone ring them and the ringing ONLY be heard in the headphones NOT from the phone ?

I don't believe I have a dodgy headphone socket as I have never had any issues with my headPHONES when using them with the Desire.
But I also confirm that the Ringtone plays in both the headPHONE and through the speaker, i.e. the speaker is not muted as it was on my previous WinMo phone Touch Pro/Raphael.
Now whether this is by design or a bug is the real question. I couldn't believe this is by design, but you never know!
I doubt its the headphone socket, something to do with software possibly ?
Ive got a mate to test his aswell, results to come later.
So now, that's 4 in this thread with the same issue.
And if i dont hear anything later, i will go into CPW tomorrow to try their stock ones.
I wrote to htc with my problem and got this reply. To be fair it only took 3 days for a reply.
Not sure they got it completely as I'm more interested in notifications playing out more than ringing.
If you agree with me please email HTC.

Hi
Thank you for contacting us. In respect of the query that you have raised regarding the functionality of the HTC Desire speaker when using headphones, we must advise you that this is the correct operation of the device by design. Most customers would find it inconvenient and uncomfortable to have notifications and ringtones coming through their headset when they are listening to music (which is the primary purpose of connecting the headphones). Also, it is considered that when you are in a quiet environment, it is not useful to be able to hear the phone ring as you would not be able to talk. It is recommended therefore that you set your phone to vibrate mode. Although we greatly appreciate your suggestions and will pass these on to our software development team, for the above reasons it is highly unlikely that this functionality will be changed. If you require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us again.
Kind Regards
I was wondering if there were a way that when I plug my headphones in that it wont automatically change the volume down.
Also is there a way that when my phone starts ringing that it wont start low and then get louder? Like the first ring will be lower than what follows. I just want it all the same. THANKS!
nobosy cares about these things? I must be the only one I guess
I care about the ascending ringtone, I miss calls if my phones in another room and I don't hear it till the last ring.
Edit: After some time spent on Google it looks like this is a common issue with Samsung phones (ascending ringtone). The Cognition Rom for the regular GS2 fixes it but I have no clue how.
hmm I've always preferred ascending, why not just keep your phone in your pocket... but I know someone else like that too... Good luck
Odd I actually like the ascending ringtone.
I could be wrong, but I believe the phone keeps separate volume levels for headphones vs none. What happens if you adjust the volume with the headphones plugged in? Does the volume remain high after unplug and plug them back in?

So as you guys all know, the earphones that came with the phone have a button and a volume + and -. So when I plug in my earphones to the phone (phone is in silent/vibrate mode), and I push the button on the earphones, it starts playing audio out of my music player. However once I do that, my phone's sound settings gets flipped to unmute audio on no vibrate. Is there a way to make it just play media and still remain in vibrate/silent? It's annoying because even though media plays through the earphones, when a call comes through it plays out of my phone's back speakers.
Please post Questions in Q&A

Doesn't seem to work for me as I am using PowerAmp. The button will automatically initiate playback. I tried adjusting poweramp settings as well, but it's weird how it would just swap up Sound On/No Vibrate and this leads to phone call ring to be played from speakers even though my earphones are plugged in.

If you are using poweramp and still having this problem, I have found a solution. Go into power amp settings for the headset and uncheck the beep option.

This should fix it. I contacted them via Twitter and they're working on a fix. This only seems to happen on JB

i keep my phone on vibrate all day at work. i also listen to music. i use klipsch S4a II's with the android specific in-line button. if i just use my headphones to listen to music, everything is fine. but as soon as i press the inline button to pause or double click to skip a track, my phones sound profile changes itself from vibrate to ringer. needless to say, if im not paying attention and i unplug my headphones and get up from my desk, my phone is no longer on vibrate and has rung at inappropriate times in a meeting. my note2 used to do this but fixed itself at some point. not sure if it was a software update that fixed it or a setting somewhere. ive looked all over and i dont see anything on the note3 to adjust to change this behavior. anyone else with this problem?
i guess im the only one with this problem then?
Hi modders !!!
I think I might quit forever with windows phone if this annoying issue won't be solved. By you or by MS with the official W10 rollout.
Anyway, the problem is that the ringtone (sms/wapp/calls) is played ONLY thru the headphones if plugged in. This makes the phone kind of useless, because I cannot keep the headphones on all day long.
Is there any tweak or mod I can apply to solve this problem?
The future of my phone is in your hands
I totally trust in you!
That makes absolutely no sense.................

Make sure that when you unplug the headphones you then turn the ringer volume up. When the headphones are plugged in the media volume and ringer volume act together. When the headphones aren't plugged in they are both separate. Make sure ringer + notifications volume is all the way up. If that's not the answer then yea this post doesn't make sense.

doesn't matter, ringtones and notifications only play through headset when plugged in. I remember on my lumia 520 it would actually play ringtones and notifications both through the headset and speaker.
