My wife has a rooted SSGSII with the stock rom. I have the same phone but have a custom rom. She has alot of weird issues like sometimes freezes when a call comes in, her time in the system bar is often incorrect. She uses Magic Locker and sometimes her time in Magic Locker doesn't match the system time or they may both be off. I wonder if anyone has had this kind of issue. We have replaced the SIM card already. She used Titanium Backup to bring back her apps from her old Droid after rooting. I don't have any of these problems at all but she has crazy issues like this. Any thought about what might be contributing to these issues?
I've never experienced this before, but I have had major issues with titanium backup to the point that I no longer use it. Have you tried reflashing without using titanium?

No. We didn't flash her device. We just used TB to restore some of her apps after she rooted it. TB website said it would be OK to use it with a Stock Rom.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
i would assume TB meant it would be okay if it was from the same device... its not best when you're restoring apps from a completely different phone. I you sure its completely stock? i would just go ahead and flash a custom rom.
Thanks for the help. Think I will flash a custom rom and see if that helps the issue.
Often times if you use TB to restore apps and previous app data, this will happen. Couple options. Try restoring just the app without the data, or use ODIN to flash a clean stock, then re-root and start over. A clean can resolve a lot of issues. I ODIN my phone at least once a month regardless.

Sorry noob here but it's my understanding that I can't back up my App data and upgrade to ICS from GB, Is that correct? Is their anyway of updating to ICS and keep app data? I'm rooted and running Juggernaut ROM.
I believe most user apps and data can be restored from GB to ICS, just don't restore any system app, and keep in mind that some apps and games may not be compatible with ics and that's going to make the restoring batch get stuck, just keep that on mind
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk 2
Will it Brick or Soft brick my phone if i redo a batch and it's not compatible do you know?
If you restore system apps or their app data, then it is likely, but if restored user apps have compatibility issues then you'll mostly get force closes.

quick reference
I do suggest referencing this post which has so far the best route if you're going your route. I have been able to upgrade and keep all the data using the stock upgrade in Kies for two other phones (not mine) and they have not had any issues.
I went the odin flash route and just want to remind you to wipe all the system partitions (I used Darkside SuperWipe) then flash Radio then flash ROM
hope that saves you some time.
Thanks Guys!!
Yeah, just hit batch and restore missing apps w/data. You'll be fine.

Okay so my sister updated her epic a few days ago, and has been having nonstop problems with the ICS build FF18 there are just so many bugs in this and wondering if there is anything she can do without wiping her data on the phone.
She has two options. After ROOTING and flashing a custom recovery, she can either:
1. Backup all the data she wants: apps, sms, system settings, home screen layout and call log.She can use ROM Toolbox, My Backup Root or Titanium Backup. Those are the best. I personally recommend ROM Toolbox, but My Backup Root can backup sms and call logs.
After that she can flash any ROM she wants and then restore the data of all the apps.
2. She can try to format system only and then flash any ROM she wants. This is the easiest way but it is very risky to do it.
The first method is the most recommended. It is always recommended to flash a clean install.
Hope this helps. You can find all the links you want for Rooting and Flashing in the Android Development section.

About the only option you would have then is using Kies to backup, wipe the phone with a factory reset and restore through Kies.
If you have been reading through the threads, then you should know that the brick bug is still a major concern with the latest ota.
But you really don't have any other option if you're not going to root.

I don't blame her. It's no longer a great or even good phone for the majority of people. Even with custom roms and customizations I get about half the performance. They should have never released this update to the masses.

it's the first Ics update of course there gonna be bugs that's a must for any update all the kinks haven't been worked out yet and if she hates the phone so much now then why not save yourself another 200 and root downgrade unroot it and stop being stubborn and difficult it's not going to kill her

It is the apps that are on there. She has to start from a clean slate. Get Go BackUp, backup just contacts, sms, mms, and call log. Factory Reset. Then reinstall the the apps she wants from the Play Store. This worked for me.
you need update the device to stock FH13.. maybe fixed your issue about battery drain...
Running FH13 with 2 hours on screen time and 60% battery left. I started at about 90% after flashing the update patch from FF18 to FH13.

Download EL26 one-click,
Apply EL26 one-click,
Disable OTA,
Unroot.

Done.
So i have Calkulins 3.0 installed, and it was working fine, but now it's constantly asking me to upgrade. and on probably an unrelated note, the phone is just randomly rebooting now.
Can someone tell me what I can do to not lose any phone contact data, app data, etc. and get to stock ICS?
I have a 32GB mem card installed in the phone as well.
I really appreciate the help. Thanks.

1. run titanium backup for your apps( for safety sake)
2. run oneclick fi03 nodata wipe version
Try this before you do something drastic like flash ics.

And the reboots could be related to the battery.
You need to learn how to backup and restore data anyway.
Titanium is a good tool. You need to use something to backup the apps.
Do a nandroid full backup of your current setup anyway (and then a restore to test it) so you can always go back too.

Thanks for the help! I used titanium backup and did a one click to the fi03 version of ics.
Everything went smooth.
Now the problem is that the phone still reboots randomly, I have taken out me sd card, thinking there could be an error, which was causing it to reboot. No resolution.
I have swapped the battery (third party), and still the same issue.
I think I need to get back to sprint to have the phone swapped out.
Is there a one click to do that?
Do I have to reset the odin? counter? to swap it out at sprint?
thanks again.

Updated to FF18 UNROOTED.
Once I had the phone up, it told me to update to FH13.
Is there anything else I need to do before going to a sprint store for a swap?
Have Anyone Had An App That Once You Open The App Your Phone Just Vibrates Then Freezes? I Tried Opening My Ebay App but it causes my phone to freeze to the point where I had to pull the battery, then after placing the battery back in and rebooting the phone, the phone would freeze again seconds after reboot making the phone unusable on UVDLI8. I Restored my Phone To an Earlier backup to UVDLI6 which worked until I tried to open the Ebay App and it caused the same problems again.
Xda app did this once to me. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it now it works perfect.

Thanks Alot That Did It..
Freezing phone requiring reboot and/or battery pulls is NOT bricking.
Soft brick: is where you can not boot into rom or recovery state, and requires a jig or other form to boot into recovery or odin.
Hard brick, usually means something is fried and/or damaged tobthe point of needing special equipment to fix, if it is repairable at all.

Sounds like you are experiencing a bug in the jb builds. Im guessing you just flashed one of the roms in development? Or if you restored the apps from a backup try doing fresh installs instead.
This was a big issue with UVDLH3. You have to wipe data/factory reset at the least. Otherwise you're very likely going to have some bugs. Dont restore apps or data from backups. Redownload the rom too as a bad dl can cause problems.
If this doesn't help then do this.
Odin UVALH2 (use root66 version to keep root)
Then flash UVDLI8 or other jb leak from sammobile or samsung-updates.com (use mobole odin pro or voodoo ota rootkeeper to keep root)
Then flash a jb rom based on the same leak you used above.

I'm running LiquidSmooth ROM and even with a complete wipe and re-install of the ROM my phone will randomly lock up. Can't replicate it on demand and it could take a few days before it does it. Sometimes it happens a couple times a day, and sometimes it'll go a week without locking up. It always when the screen is off so I can't wake the phone up and have to pull the battery to get it back in a working state. Any ideas on what it could be? I'm open to any suggestions and will provide any info needed.
Open terminal emulator (get from store if you haven't already) and type this:
Getprop ro.bootloader
Tell us what it says.
It could be an app you are using causing issues.
Do you restore anything from backups? Titanium, nandroid or otherwise?

T999UVDLJC - I restored some apps via titanium backup like google music and some other various apps, but I didn't restore the data with it; just the app. I thought it was due to using autostarts and maybe had an app/service stopped and was causing the issue, but after the wipe and reinstall of the ROM, I didn't re-install autostarts and it still happened.

I don't recall if it happened on the stock ROM as I didn't have it long enough for it to lock up. Actually, I take that back. It did lock up with the stock ROM, but was rooted. I've flash ROMs on previous phones I've owned, but this is the first custom ROM on this phone specifically. The stock ROM was 4.1 so yeah, this is the first 4.2.x ROM.
Sounds like you're restoring an incompatible app, or you didn't wipe data prior to changing roms.
Try flashing, but do not restore the apps. Reinstall them clean via the play store.
We're you restoring them as system apps, or user apps?

Sorry for the long delay. I tried another ROM, pac man, and it locked up within 2 hours of using it and no apps installed yet (except for google apps). I was watching logcat today and I see a ton of messages saying "unknown permissions". I tried the fix permissions option from CWM, but I'm still seeing those messages in logcat. I'm going to leave my phone hooked up to my PC and logcat running hoping maybe I can catch the issue via logcat when it happens. If need be, I can save logcat to a file for review.

If you're still having problems with it, and especially if it happens on different roms, you should Odin flash the latest stock firmware (root66 ok), and wipe everything. Run clean and stock for a while. If it continues after this it's probably a hardware issue.

It only happens when the phone is idle/sleeping (screen off, not being used). While actually using it, it never locks up. Do you happen to have a link to the stock rom/firmware handy? If not, I can search for it. Could I have rooted the phone incorrectly? Could it be an issue with the partitions? Any ideas on how to track down the hardware problem?
Also, I see what seems to be a lot of errors in logcat, but I don't know if these are legit or not.

I honestly don't know a lot about non-touchwiz roms, but from all the bugs people mention it wouldn't surprise me at all to see a lot of errors in your logical.
You can find my firmware thread linked in my Sig, and stickied in development. It's probably not anything specific you did. It's hard to say for sure. If it's only happening while asleep, it may be the kernel. But still, I think flashing stock to test is the best option. If it stops happening you will know for sure it's not the hardware. Before trying to track it down, first determine if it's even likely.

So, I downloaded the stock 4.3 OTA ROM and flashed it. All problems are solved. No issues, but now I'd like to try to re-root the phone and try again, but from what I've read you can't downgrade from 4.3.
