Latitude and Local you can't remove without removing google maps... they are built into the app.

If you're using Titanium Backup...use the FREEZE function. It disables the app and it disappears from the app drawer. If nothing wonky happens while those apps are frozen...it's most likely okay to uninstall at that point. (and...Nandroid...is a headache saver).

I use DroidWall. It's free on the Market, but it does require root. I'm thinking most if not all of your choices of an app to do what you are asking will require root.
Wow thanks. I already have that app and I thought I'd read it trough thoroughly but there you see.
Anyone know if you can disable apps from starting at all, e.g. Social hub?

Two frozen Google apps return

Two Google apps -- Play Books and Play Movies & TV -- keeping returning from the land of the frozen. I go back into TB Pro and refreeze, and within a couple of days at most they are back. All the other Google apps I've frozen remain so. Is there something else on the list I also need to freeze?
When I disable them in app manager they come back after a reboot as well. I think its tied to the play store or something that keeps activating them.

I checked on Play and on app manager for auto update option and don't see one. Odd that only these two are persistent despite freezing. I have the feeling there's another item on TB that needs freezing as well to fix this.

Ah, the more brutal approach. If that worked, and you have no regrets or issues as a result, that seems my only course of action as well.
Why you bother to freeze them or delete? It's part of former Google Market. Do.'t see benefit from deleting it. Can you share your thoughts?

Basically, I have four pages of icons under apps, and many of them are for services I have no interest in and will never use. I'm not trying to save space...I think there's 11 GB free, but I find the clutter off-putting.
Not sure I understand the part about Google Market. Play is just the same thing renamed, isn't it? Plus new look and feel.
Anyway, just de-cluttering the UI.

How to prevent play store update of certain app?

I'm trying to figure out how to stop the play store from updating a certain app. Is that possible?
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I have no clue how.....?
Any guidance would be appreciated

Go to play app, click on the app you dont want to update automatically, there's going to be a check box somewhere towards the top, under the app images if im not mistaken. Uncheck allow automatic updating. Done.

I'm trying to prevent updating, period. Not auto update.
Sent using T999 with DarthStalker ROM
Disabling auto update prevents the app from updating itself. You have to manually prevent yourself from updating the app manually. I'm not certain that you can blacklist updates for an app the way I think you want to.
With Titanium Backup you can also detach the app from the Play Store

You have to be rooted. Not sure if you have to have the PRO version of TitaniumBackup or not. Anyway go to where you made your back up and find the app. Long press it and from the menu that pops up click Detach from Market.
go to your Google Play Settings and check Updated over Wi-Fi only.
this way you can update all the apps you want manually when you wish...
or just uncheck Auto-Update apps

Is there a list of apps that are safe to freeze?

I saw in the other general thread that someone put all of the apps he froze on the AT&T G3. I was wondering if someone has done this for the T-Mobile G3.

I personally have just removed the t-mobile bloatware currently. I rooted, did a full backup with titanium and removed all the t-mobile stuff.
I actually deleted LG Suite since I'm using titanium for backup, I also deleted LG Backup, Google newstand, Google movies and TV, it don't work on rooted phones, T-Mobile TV, the weather app since I use my own. I deleted smart notice, don't use it, don't want it. don't need it,

Sometimes big system updates require all apps to untouched so I usually just freeze. But you could do what dxtra said also and keep the apks in a separate location.

Ok. I thought you disabled the apps using the Settings>Application Manager route. In the application manager you can see many other apps also which are not listed as your apps but are running in the background and can be disabled. Also, using this method, for each app you can first clear the data and cache before disabling / turning off the app thereby freeing up some more space taken by these apps.
I would love to know this as well, specifically the ones not found in the app drawer
Is disabling the app like freezing the app?
