Where can I find custom navigation bar mods? What I want is an ALWAYS on nav bar, as if hardware buttons were present at the bottom of my screen. I want 4 nav icon buttons in this order form left to right: Menu, Back, Home, Search
Is this possible? So tired of having to hunt/hope for the tiny 3-vertical dot menu option squeezed over where it is not convenient to get to. I do NOT need the silly open-app switcher button that is on the right now. I did some searching but couldn't find a mod that could be allied to my current custom JB rom, only other ROMs that I'd have to flash the whole thing to get.
Thanks!
-edit-
Found this thread, but none of those links provide a solution for this

After you posted this I sepnt 30 more minutes on Google and 2 hours in the Nexus Themes/Apps forums, but STILL have yet to find this. Everyone wants you to modify your SystemUI.apk or just overwrite an image file. For crying out loud..I just want a flashable zip to do in CWM Recovery that has the four options I mentioned above. I cannot believe nobody else has wanted this, it's the biggest (and only) downfall of the Nexus.

I was looking for a mod that would do Vibrant keys (menu-home-back-recent) but couldn't find it. Turned out it's so easy to do yourself! All you need to do is decompile SystemUI.apk, edit layout/navigation_bar.xml, compile it back and adb push to /system/app
Not a rocket science, really

Oh that's all...lol. Come on. Most people do not use ADB or decompile on here. We use the GNex Toolkit by mrskip (which in turn handles ADB tasks auto-magically) or we do what little we can in a root explorer, but other than that it's beyond 90% of ppl on here (despite the name of the forum). Now, I know that there are flashable zips, I just cannot find one with the 4 buttons I like. Everything has the silly 'recent apps' button on the right that I never use. I need that to be a search button like every other phone.

Yes but I don't think aokp JB fully merge in apk those features yet, so I think you have to go back to the fully loaded milestone 6.

I'm really not digging the Touchwiz Dialer, which inexplicably leaves off the contacts tab.
Is there a way to replace the dialer with AOSP, or is this one of those things that pretty much needs to be baked into the ROM?

It's possible. There was a zip somewhere that was posted on the Skyrocket forum. I can't find it, so I decided to upload it. Not taking credit for it, just can't remember where it came from: AOSP Patch.zip
Edit: Was having problems before, but reflashed from scratch, now all is well.
Just as a warning, if you flash the zip above, you well also be theeming your market and contracts etc. Also it's a darker version of the dialer without the blue accents.

Got The AOSP Locksreen to work on stock deodexed Touchwiz Rom.
I'm using NOTEorious Prime RC1.5 JB 4.1.2 AOSP/TW Mash-up N7105
Should work on other Roms as well
This is has Ink Mod Red/Black Built in to the Settings so no need to flash both.
Just Flash the Attached Zips [SECSettings AOSP Lockscreen Addon] and [AOSP Lockscreen] You may need to wipe Cache/Dalvik
As Always BACKUP before you flash anything.
Clock is White Right Now and I am Working on color mods for it.
Have a mod for blue Lockscreen Text
Manual Way:
It is getting hard for me to keep up with all the mod changes and everything going on in my life so I will post the changed files for this mod so that dev's can add them to any ROM.
AOSP Lock.rar has 4 files in side, just replace the files in your ROM with these.
android.policy.jar
\com\android\internal\policy\impl and open LockPatternKeyguardView.smali
SecSettings.apk
/smali/com/android/settings/ folder and open LockscreenSettings.smali
res/xml folder and open lockscreen_settings.xm
The 4th file is only needed if you have problems recompiling it has the changes need for wfd_picker_dialog.xml. It goes in res/layout.
TouchWiz LockScreen Mods
I will place My Touchwiz Lock-screen Mods in this post to keep the 2 separate. These do not interfere with the toggle mod so both can be flashed.
Didnt work for me on CleanRom

That's what it looks like on mine with the all blue text. Will probably make an all black for that wallpaper.
Lockscreen icons are in framework-res. So you can change them to anything you want Slide up for Google Now [Hard to see on White Wallpaper]
I am working on lockscreen mods for this. A lot of the structure is in the original system so it makes it a little easier but I still have to find the hidden ones.
Lockscreen Targets can be modified but not easily. Would have to redirect the targets manually.
It seems this doesn't work Saurom install unfortunately ):
Flashed SECSettings AOSP Lockscreen Addon.zip with AOSP Lockscreen.zip in TWRP. I tried it with and without wiping the cache. All I got were bootloops.

i have followed the soft keys thread here on the forum and had to factory reset the phone twice.. so be carefull, it even worked once but then after a reboot it all disapeared :/
will be happy to get a better way to make that instead of using metomorph again
Try Sorcery rom. Has that option. Has like 100 to choose from and you can still change em manually if desired.
Today's CM10.1 nightly brings some personalizations for the navigation bar. :highfive:
In part I solved the problem, even if with this, for now, we can't change buttons images.
Just use 7zip to open systemui.apk. drag and replace your own PNG into it (don't extract, just open). Use any available systemui cwm flashable zip in themes thread, replace with your edited systemui.apk. Flash in recovery, clear cache/dalvik. Reboot.

Hello there,
I have been using stock rom for three days with certain mods and so far I like it a lot.
Just wanted to let you know about the possible mods you can find to empower the stock rom :
1. Advanced power menu
2. Battery percentage
3. Centre clock
4. T9dialer
5. Sms with quick reply from CM or other Roms works fine
6. Customised tiles with quick pulling (kevdliu mod)
You won't find mods for:
Volume wake (but you can buy pgm app for that)
Screenlock targets
Navigation bar targets (just Google search)
So far I am enjoying stock rom. Maybe I will keep using it.
However this post is a sign of personal gratitude to all users here that share their knowledge and make the stock rom a pleasant software for daily use. At least for me.
Cheers
This thread would be more useful with posted links to those mods attached.
Here we go:

It is certain that you will enjoy stock rom through these mods.
T9 dialer doesn't seem to work on odexed jdq39.
All the mods are for deodexed rom and for JDQ39.
There is luckily also a variant of extended power menu for odexed stock .
I'm not 100% sure since I havent done this on the Galaxy Nexus. But there is a file in /system/usr/keylayout/ that handles the hardware button actions. On my Verizon Nexus using CM10.1, the file is called "tuna-gpio-keypad.kl". In that file there will be three lines for the three buttons. VOLUME_DOWN, VOLUME_UP, and POWER. I'm not sure what the stock file has in it but if there is no "WAKE" after the volume buttons, putting it there should allow the volume wake option. Power should have WAKE after it already. This is all just in theory though. I used to mess with my hardware button controls with my old device. Havent done anything with the Nexus.
Well the wake word is there for both volume up, down and power. I think it is done on framework file.
These are all great mods I've used on any stock ROM I tried. Two mods kept me going to custom ROMs, volume keys to skip music tracks while screen off and no theme engine support. If I could get those two into the mix, I might consider a stock ROM again lol.

Here's an odexed T9 dialer I just made. I'm not on stock so I couldn't test. Recommend to make a backup of your contacts.apk and contacts.odex just in case of issues. Nandroid recommended as well. Please report if it works or has any issues.

If anyone on stock tries this, if you could verify contacts.apk and contacts.odex were placed in /system/app and permissions were set correctly, then it should be working unless something went wrong with the odexing, but I received no errors and removed the .dex file from the .apk. Any feedback is appreciated. This can be flashed via CWM/TWRP or if you are rooted, you can extract the contacts.apk and contacts.odex and copy them to /system/app and set permissions rw-r--r--. Remember to backup your existing files first or rename them by adding .bak to the filename. After copying the files, a reboot is needed.
