Extending storage... - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way to increase available storage that can be portable and convenient.
Any ideas? Please provide links if possible.

You could use some online services like Minus, CX, Dropbox, etc.

Some people have had success using the stock wifi hotspot feature of an android phone running ICS, and running Wifi File Explorer to transfer files from their phone's storage to their kindle but I haven't tried it myself.

ebook lending with ROM

apologies if this has been asked/answered before.
the wife has a kindle fire that i have put CM9 on. and for the most part she is fine with everything.
but she has amazon prime and i guess you can "check out" books for your kindle. but we are having a hard time figuring out how to make that work.
I was able to purchase FREE books and sync them with the kindle app.
but can't seem to get the lending thing down.
any help is appreciated.
thanks!
anybody? nobody reads books on their kindle? lol
Not sure what advice I can give you. I am using a CM10 ROM with a the generic Kindle app for android and I don't have a problem borrowing books. When I am browsing the Kindle book store the books that are available for borrowing (not very many actually) are marked with the "prime" tag just like they are when using a stock Kindle. You may need to be logged in to your prime account to see that but I am not sure since I'm always logged in.

Thanks for the reply - that gives me something to go on..
we would have expected to see what you are seeing, but whenever we press the kindle store icon, it just takes you out to an external web page and its difficult to navigate.
I'll try a clean wipe and install of cm10 tonight and see if that helps
Thanks!

Actually I am seeing the same thing you are getting (the web page). That is the way that the generic android Kindle app works. Unfortunately there is a huge difference between the Kindle app built into the stock Fire os and the android app (stock is much better). I have read several threads by people wanting to install the stock app on a custom ROM but I am not sure if anyone has been successful. You might want to try searching for that.

If you find a way to install the stock reading app post the link please. I want to do it too.

[Q] Personal Hotspot?

Just wondering, is there any app or Rom that let's me host a hotspot even if I don't have 3g or wifi connection? I have heard that you can do this on the S3, so can we do it on the Fire? Does it even have the necessary hardware?

You want to use your kindle fire as a personal hotspot?
The S3 can share its Internet from its data connection.
The fire had no data connection (absent WiFi)
This not possible if I understand you correctly (which I had trouble understanding what your asking)

Wi-Fi is not absent, cellular connection such as 4g is absent. You might be able to create an ad hoc network between the fire and another device but it would be pretty pointless except for sharing GPS location from phone to kf. The kf has no network capabilities other than Wi-Fi.

That is not what saying absent WiFi means
Saying absent WiFi does not mean WiFi is absent. Two different phrases in the English language with absolutely opposite meanings
In this context it means aside from wifi

I have never heard of such an odd use for the word but I apologize for the misunderstanding.

Where did you pick up this really peculiar definition for the word "absent"??
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire using xda premium
Sounds like he wants to set up a mesh network.

Removed because this argument is rediculous and because of thepooch's post below. You are simply wrong and I refuse to continue a conversation about the English language with you.
Haha guys stick to the subject which I think is pretty much moot. As far as I know the kindle is not capable of generating it's own hotspot.

I see your studying engineering...you have never heard someone say "absent the existence of X variable, Y variable will not function"?

See that one I can handle, as it uses the word with its correct definition I.e. to be missing. I have just not been able to find a definition of the word that in any way resembles "aside from".
This post has indeed gotten way off topic lol

.-. I intended to say that the s3 is capable of hosting a wireless hotspot without 4g, 3g or wifi. So it's a wifi hotspot that doesn't provide Internet connection. A local connection.

I have been able to connect the kf to a cell phone that has no cellular service just to transmit GPS data for navigation software but never been able to get the kf set up as an open connection even using the same software.

I just tried on twa_priv's ROM to setup a hotspot with Wireless Tether (root required), and it did not work. So I don't think that you can setup a hotspot on the KF

Wifi issues on kindle fire ?

I have a rooted kindle fire running cyanogenmod 7 the wifi works but for some reason I cannot use messenger apps such as kik messenger on any wifi except for my neighbors'. I also cannot get any updates from my Facebook app or any other app besides email. can anyone shed some light on this issue? Is it a special type of wifi or a setting of some sort?
Both of us have the same ISP and we both have 1mb internet

This isn't the wrong thread. He is on a kindle fire. This is the kindle fire forum. This is where he is supposed to go.
As far as an answer goes, cm7 is pretty old, so I don't know. What short of internet do you have at home?

I'm not too sure about specifics but we have the same modem, smart ISP the only difference I can see is that my link speed is 54mbps and his is 18mbps

I don't know. It sounds weird. Does this happen on other ROMs?

Yes it does. I also noted that it works with my school's wifi which is 26mbps, broadband connection, same ISP :/

Has any one managed to enable usb storage on ftv?

Im using xbmc but would like to add an external hdd

Not possible atm. For now just connect the external drive to a PC on the same network and present it as an SMB/NFS share and add it to XBMC.

[Q] Download torrents direct to firetv?

Im a little confused about xbmc and tv show automation.
what i want to do is for my fire tv with my external hdd hooked to it download new episodes as they are put up and orginize them.
now ive seen things like flexget that can filter and send links to a torrent downloader but it seems you need another computer set up is that the only way to achive this?

I use utorrent on my FTV to download torrents and I use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.utorrent.web&hl=en to control it remotely.
Thanks for the reply
What about automation?
