On your missed call use TWO fingers and swipe down. It'll re-show it. Swipe up to re-hide.

It's really sucks...whats the point...everytime i get a missed call i have to use two fingers to open the extra options to call back...its the same as touch the notification and redirect me to the call log than touch the call button it's even faster..........isn't there any option to just make it always appears...??
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium

Mine sometimes displays the extended notification and sometimes not. I could care less which one appears. It's not a big deal for me to swipe down with two fingers. Not sure if there is a way to modify it to always show (likely there is).

[Q] incoming call hybrid answer mode?

Has anyone else noticed that when you receive a call sometimes you have the option to press answer or ignore and other times you get slide up or slide down to answer or reject? Is there anyway to just have one of them? And also why isn't there an option to clear the incoming call screen? It just stays there until I pick answer or ignore.. on my g1 I would press back and it would clear and let me get back to my business. Also is there a way that I can just have the slide up or slide down to answer? The on screen keys always press when pullin the phone out of my pocket.. super annoying
the option you get is determined whether or not you phone display is on (locked or unlocked) at the time.
Oh ok.. thanks. I couldn't pinpoint it.. I guess once root is available then I can completely shut down the answer on the screen feature. Thanks again
you think there is any chance we could get phone calls non intrusively like webos

[Q] No text alert....

When I am in a text conversation my dinc will not sound an alert if I leave the conversation open. I only get a new alert sound if I close the coversation. Does anyone know how to change this so that I get an alert? Is this suppose to be this way? Is this a bug?
Mine is the same way, so I just got used to exiting out of the conversation. If there is a fix that would be sweet!!
Its that way because its like being in a chat with someone. Why would you need it to make a sound if your looking right at the screen in the middle of a chat? I'm sure way more people would complain if it was like that.
I think if you just turn the screen off on your phone it will make a sound even if you dont exit out.
I would not want it to make a sound if im staring right at the screen talking back and fourth with someone. The only timei would want it to make a sound is if i wasnt in conversation and needed to be alerted that someone texted me or if my screen was off. Wich is exactly how it works.
Just me
I do agree that I wouldn't want an alert every time if I was staring at the screen through the whole conversation.
even if I turn the screen off it doesn't give an alert. That would be a good solution.
But, the best thing for me would be if there was a toggle to make it alert me every time, as I usually don't stay still and text very often. I will send a text and set the phone down, or put in pocket, or holster...then continue what I was doing until I hear an alert. That is what works for me.
the issue is when I don't back out of the text app and start doing something else and I receive a text from that same person, it won't sound an alert. Screen on or off.
I'm definitely not trying to say that the app or the phone sucks. Just asking if there was a way to alleviate the issue I am describing. Or maybe there was an app, or a rom that might do what I am talking about .
******edit....just did a test. Tonight my dinc would alert me if the screen was off, and I left the conversation open. I'm pretty sure it didn't do this before. Or at least at times it wouldn't do this. Maybe it didn't alert me before because the other person actually responded before the screen turned off...or maybe I just didn't hear it...lol...either way, for my purpose it would be nice for my purposes if there was a toggle to change this.
Thanks,
Jon

I had the same issue before if I left the conversation open and the screen was off and it wouldn't alert me at all. I haven't checked this out as of recent because I got so used to just going to the home screen after I sent a text. I'll check and see if it works now.
this "problem" has every now then started very minor communication arguments with the gf. it sometimes makes me look like a damn fool.

Got a few issues / bugs...

Loving the phone...can't wait for JB....
Right now, running stock AT&T ROM...I'm got a few issues / bugs to report...wondered if anyone else sees these or knows a fix:
1. The notification sound for Calendar reminders can't be changed. It lets me pick a new / custom sound but it does not save the setting. Everytime I go back in it is back to the default.
2. Incoming calls - often as soon as I grab the phone (usually from my pocket but sometimes when it was just sitting on a table) the call is rejected as if I bumped something to do this. Only the phone is locked and I did not hit any buttons. I really doubt I keep hitting the red reject slider and sliding it across the phone accidently....not sure what is going on.
3. Texts - they seem to not come thru sometimes and I also rarely hear the notification or feel the vibration.
Anyone else having these issues?

1. Are you pressing the "OK" button (next to the "cancel" button) on the calendar ring tone selection screen? I've confused myself and pressed the "back" softkey, which wasn't lit up, since it was below the "OK" button thinking i was pressing ok (or because I often unthinkingly default to pressing back to exit a screen). Otherwise this should be working, if it really isn't saving you have a buggy device...
2. I've only had the phone a few days and picking up calls has been no problem (stock rom, not rooted yet).
3. I feel you on the text alerts, but i get them on time and get a vibration just not the default vibration "tone" i selected. Generally late text messages aren't an issue with the phone more likely the provider, but your two issues above may indicate the device is at fault.
I can't change my notification sound on calendar either. I called Samsung and they said to hard reset. I guess their tech support is just as useless as Motorola's. I wish I could be that lazy at my job; "well customer I see you have a problem, have you tried putting it back in the box and pulling i back out? That's all I can recommend."
Thanks...

Definitely hitting okay....it shows the correct ring tone....but when I go back into settings it is gone.
Answering calls is getting better....disabled the motion controls and some other things to make it hard to accidently reject the call.
We'll See...

Hoping Samsung's Jelly Bean release fixes these issues....or maybe a patch release or two after JB. If not, I will try CM10 or a JB-based AOKP build when they get a little more polished.
This issue is fixed in the latest ATT OTA update http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31801294#post31801294
Thanks!

Thanks for point this out! I had forgotten about it! The fix seems to have worked for me. Would be nice if all undocumented fixes like this were in one neat bullet-ed list for us to review....
Nah, then Samsung would have to acknowledge that they told a bunch of gullable people to factory reset for nothing

three small pleasant surprises

Three features I wasn't expecting are especially nice improvements over my previous phone:
(1) A setting that blocks all calls or messages from people not on my contact list.
(2) A setting that keeps the phone on as long as it sees me looking at it.
(3) The ability to take a photo via a voice command.

Its an awsome phone and its great you want to share your discovery with us. However it would be even better if you can add some value to your thread you have created by elaborating on how thiese features are great , how to turn them on and off , and or make a list to help newcomers find little usefull features like thies on there new awsome phone. Think of these members who would search for a post like this one and how it could help them.
Thanks in anycase.

1) I could be totally wrong, as it's been about a month since I last held the original Note, but I could have sworn I distinctly remember this feature in the original Note. I remember remarking to myself how convenient it was, but I never used it because I had a third party app that did the same thing.
2) Smart Stay was a feature I was really looking forward to from the S III. I can't tell you how many times I've been reading a long article online or something else, and the screen dimmed or turned off because it had no clue I was still actively using the phone. Smart Stay has effectively eliminated this, and it has worked really well for me.
3) This feature I have only heard about ONCE, and that was while watching a YouTube video someone had done on the Note II. I was very impressed and it's another feature I have longed for. I've tried it out and it works flawlessly.
I'd also go on to add there are many more features I find convenient. Quick Glance is a convenient little gem that I've heard no one mention in the dozens of reviews I've seen about the Note II. I found it by just going through every part of my phones' settings. When your screen is off, quick glance will cut on your screen for a couple of seconds, and display a large clock with the date, email count, text count, and missed calls count. This is activated by hovering your hand, briefly, over the phones light sensor. It comes in extremely hand during the night when I want to quickly roll over, check the time, and roll back over to sleep. No more trying to find the phone ... finding the button to turn the screen on ... then turning the screen off again. Everything is hands-free. A beautiful little aurora borealis-type animation happens in the background while quick glance is active. The majority of the screen stays black so it's not bothersome.
Another favorite feature of mine is Direct Call. It essentially calls whatever contact whose information is currently being displayed on your screen from your contacts list. So instead of having to pull up, John Doe in your contact ... then select what number of his you want to dial (assuming he has multiple numbers) ... then pushing the "call" button to execute the call... all you have to do is have John Doe's contact info pulled up and put the phone to your face as if you were about to talk on a call, and Direct Call will automatically dial the first number assigned to that contact or whatever the default number is. I've found this feature GREATLY appreciated.
I'm so happy with my new toy. So many cool features that are actually beneficial.

Ok, sure. All three features can be found just by browsing through the phone's settings (or the User Manual). Blocking Mode is listed under the device's top-level Settings; the screen-stay face-detection is under the device's Settings|Display; and the camera's viewfinder screen explains the voice-command feature when that feature is enabled (which I think it was by default; it can be toggled in the camera's top-level Settings).

Could well be. My previous phone was an Infuse, not a Note 1. So the feature was new to me, if not to the world.

Hmm I wasn't aware Blocking mode could be used like this.
I'm guessing I would set it to "Disable Incoming Calls" "Always" "Allowed contacts > All contacts".
Does that sound right?

Exactly.
Unrecognized callers can still leave you voice mails. If you use Google Voice for voice mail, then you can spam-filter those; and even for messages that don't get filtered, you only have to glance at the transcriptions for a second, instead of taking time to listen to the messages, if you want to see if any are legit.

I like that feature too, except that there's a five-second delay before the screen responds to the gesture, which makes it quicker just to press the power button.
Do you get that delay as well?

Yeah, this is a great idea for a feature. But, I have some reservations. First - battery life, you can tell the prox sensor is on, and lights up red when the screen is off. Second - speed, I find it faster when the device is flat to just press the home key, all the same info is on the lock screen, and it wakes and goes back to sleep faster if anything.

Direct Dial
Actually, you can specify which number is the default dialed by this feature:
Touch and hold the phone number you want set to default. After a second or so delay, a menu appears, and "set default" is the last item in that menu.

No incoming call popup when using phone.

If I am reading on my phone and a call comes in I don't get any visual popup to answer or decline. The phone rings but I have to pull down the notification bar in order to answer.
I usually keep do not disturb on at all times with only favorites allowed through so don't know if it's the problem or something else is.
For example, if one of my kids calls I hear it ring but I have to search/ take extra steps in order to answer the call.
This only seems to happen with the screen on. I believe it works fine when screen is off.
How do I fix this?
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks. I actually already had that setting checked.
I ended up finding another setting that seems to have fixed it. Can't remember where I found it but as long as it's working........
Glad you found it, had the same problem and I think I found the setting you did. For anyone else with this problem, in the Do Not Disturb setting, under Hide Notifications, there are settings that can be toggled for both screen on and screen off situations. Adjusting these should fix the issues.
Cheers,
