get gnex or wait? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I'm sorry mods if this doesn't belong here but i need people's opinion...should i wait for the next nexus phone or get the galaxy nexus now? the only reason why I'm getting it is because of t mobiles $30 4g(hspa+) plan and its cheaper than virgin mobile and faster in my area. the reason why i ask is because I'm afraid the next nexus phone is 4g lte and won't be compatible to be on the $30 plan since i don't see anyone with the latest phones(galaxy s3) on the $30 plan. i also heard the nexus devices would get updates to latest version of android. thanks

The next Nexus phone won't be $350.
I decided to get the GN as the price is right and I just didn't feel like spending $700+ on new tech.
Plus, will the next Nexus work on the $30 plan? No one knows at the moment.

Is it that nobody used the S3 on the $30 plan or that people aren't buying it unsubsidized to try it out? The unsubsidized price is almost double what the GN will cost you. I say go with the GN now. Great phone, great price, best software, I could go on.

Choose by yourself anyway yes galaxy nexus will receive next major updates , IMHO its perfect I buyed it a 300 dollars in sale ,really epic phone ,no word to describe ,I prefer to buy nexus now ,keep next nexus phone for newbie
About 30$ plans I don't know sorry, I live in Italy which we don't have full 3g network in all zones ,I don't image 4g

Well, either you spend $350 on the GNex, or more like $650 on the international unlocked SGSIII. Your call.
The next Nexus won't launch at $350. It'll be more expensive and decrease in price over time again. There will absolutely be an unlocked GSM HSPA+ only model as well. They won't do an LTE nexus and not an HSPA+ one.

Nexus phones tend to hold their value relatively well. While other phones released around the same time have plummeted in value on Craig list and EBay, the Nexus has stayed steady in the $350-$450 price range. You can always buy one now, and then sell it when the next one comes out. Won't be much of a price difference over buying a GS3, except this way you get to break the expense up over two time periods. Almost like having your cake and eating it too.

[Q]Should I buy a GN now!

Hi guys!
I want to buy a new phone now. Currently I have a nexus s.And is the best phone that I had ever. I like the support that it have and to many choices that I have with Roms.
What is better now to buy a Galaxy Nexus or should I wait for Htc One X or Galaxy SIII?
Question really is. Do you like stock android, sense or touchwiz? And I think you already answered your question.
Well if u do end up getting a GN deal alert got the GN for 529.99 on both colors for 24 hour sale ....check it out maybe that will help ur decision

I'm along with what the other user said ... if you like HTC Sense get the HTC One Series.. if you like Touchwiz stay with the Galaxy S line
Don't get a GS3 or HTC One and ask for AOSP ICS roms

This, other than screen choices Hardware wasn't a big deal breaker for me. I want the AOSP feel. I came for a Samsung Infuse 4g. I was tired of waiting around for development. When I was shopping for a new phone I checked out phones the the AT&T GSII, Skyrocket, ect. Sure they had some development, but not too much. So instead of getting another phone where I'd be at the mercy of Samsung and AT&T to get Rom updates. So I made the best decision ever for a phone. I bought me a Galaxy Nexus. Now I don't think I will ever not own a Nexus series phone.
Since you stated you already have a Nexus S, I bet it will be hard for you to got to anything else that will be locked down and skinned. You will probably have withdraws pretty quickly.
In short, unless you are all about the latest and greatest hardware then get a GN, or wait a year for the next Nexus phone.
Yeah I remember when I had a Nexus One and left it for a HTC Sense Device. I mean the Hero and Evo had a lot of development but its nothing like having international users which means more development than just people who have ATT or sprint etc.

You can't compare the device available now to future technology. LOL.
Future phones are always better, at least in terms of specs, so there's no end to the wait. Also, you could never have THE best phone.
PS. If you love the Nexus family then you will love GNex.
I don't mean to intrude on this topic but I am also wondering the same thing, except I'm coming from a Samsung vibrant and I can't seem to choose whether I want to get the Verizon nexus or buy a GSM nexus. Switching carriers isn't a big deal to me. Both seem to have their ups and downs. Some input would really help me decide. Thanks and sorry for hijacking your topic lol I just figured it'd be better than starting a new topic.

It really depends on you and your lifestyle. Like do you travel abroad a lot or do do you hate Verizon (lol)?
If you are in the country most of the time then I don't see why you would go through the trouble of getting an unlocked GSM GNex. They are essentially the same when it comes to end user experience.

What device you get really depends on what you want. With the Galaxy Nexus the hardware might not be as good as other devices, it is miles ahead as far a software goes considering the open nature and dev support. If you don't plan on taking advantage of that and are more concerned with hardware, then get something else. I was tempted by the hardware and went to the G2x and then the GS2, I came back to the Nexus line. I missed the customization I had with my G1 and Nexus One.
While the Galaxy Nexus may be a little behind as far a hardware, but is by no means poor. But with the open software and available drivers, the software is way ahead of other phones.
well lets see the reason I'm debating about the two is this:
Verizon Nexus:
Pros: Service overall in Los Angeles is better. True LTE speeds. And 32gb built in versus the 16gb GSM version. Can get it for $100 on amazon.
Cons: stuck with Verizon and no chance of getting service outside of the US. Monthly bill would be $50 more expensive. And the whole android support issue about source?
GSM NEXUS:
Pros: can use on my $45 T-Mobile plan with 2gbs of data or switch to any GSM carrier I want. Development seems to not be stunted. Never had a problem with service.
CONS: $500 and no local hardware support in case of a problem. 16gb versus the 32gb version.
Lol I can't choose.

So if it costs $50 a month more on Verizon, with a minimum of 24 months is $1200, or $400 more once for the GSM. Not too tough a decision, though the 32GB would be nice.

I would say go with verizon, cause if anything does happen to the phone you'll be covered. The service is great waaaaay better than T-mobile, yea the bill will be a lil higher but you get what you pay for, dependable service. The thing about the support issue is irrelevant, the Nexus(GSM or CDMA) will still be waaaay ahead of any other phone and will continue to get updates rather is be OTA or here at XDA(the dev support on here don't seem like it will die down anytime soon, so you have nothing to worry about with this phone)
If I could go back 3-4 months (or whatever it was) I wouldn't buy a Gnex today. I'm a little disappointed in the lack of fixes from google. We've been officially on 4.0.2 for almost the whole time, while they seem to cater to carrier phones more (verizon gnex).
I see no point in getting a nexus if google puts their phone 2nd to carrier demands. verizon gnex gets fixes and more attention. At this point there are newer and better phones coming out, and the appeal of getting ICS first is over, especially when google doesn't release updates.
It's not like the GS3 won't see CM and a plethora of AOSP roms. How many non aosp roms do we have?
I'd wait for the gs3 at this stage of the game. They are talking about a simultaneous world wide release.
Verizon is about the same as sprint price wise. Assuming you aren't stupid enough to pay $20 for testing when you already pay for data. Use Google voice for texting and grove IP to stretch out your minutes. Add a corporate discount and it might be cheaper.
TMobile is a true value carrier but their service can get pretty ****ty.
It don't matter what phone you get.. You only going to be king of your neighborhood/office for only a couple of months.. Then the next big thing is coming.. Hell people already talking about a Galaxy Nexus 2. Thats the thing that sucks about android.. its never one good phone..
You can: Get a VZW Nexus on contract for 2 years and be stuck.. and then have to pay full retail for the next big thing. (Which already seem like the HTC One and GS3) BUT! No one knows if VZW is going to get the Galaxy Nexus 2. or any HTC One device or even a GS3.. And even when the GS3 come out you wont be able to get it on a carrier to probly 3 months after international release
Or you can: Get the GSM Nexus and always sell it in the next few weeks or month (Since the Galaxy Nexus resell value is about $450-$600 on ebay for a used one)
Plus you can get a Pre-paid carrier like Tmo as the other user said n have ****ty service... or just use ATT or rogers w/e you use and save yourself the upgrade fees and signing a new contract

correct buy gnexus already came out with a very outdated gpu. it's gonna feel like a dinosaur in a few months when the new generation of powervr come out.
I think OP should wait for a quad core phone with an updated gpu. it'll way more feature-proof than galaxy nexus.
The Galaxy Nexus will always be a great device to they release the next Nexus..because HTC sense will always suck.. (I don't believe those demos they showed ) and Touchwiz will always be late on updates from Samsung or lack support

Any benefit to buying Sprint gn @ full price?

When I bought my iphones and t-mbole nexus s, I reasoned buying at full price would save me money in the long-run. Then t-moble blocked the nexus s from using my old 5.99 Tzones plan and I had to call numerous times to get the 20 dollar android data plan.
Now I want to buy the Galaxy Nexus Sprint phone for my girlfriend. She has a very old plan with cheap unlimited internet. I don't know the name of her plan (yet).
Will buying a full price phone have any benefit? unlike SIM card phones, I think you have to call to activate Sprint (cmda?) phones. Therefore, I am assuming they will make you pay for a 4g plan... even though it doesn't exist in Los Angels, yet... right?
Do you have to suck it up and take their discounted phone and 2 year contract? I hate contracts...
Thanks,
i would call and ask sprint.
Hard to say. Buying cdma phones full price is bad deal. They don't have as good resale value compared to unlocked GSM versions.
bow chicka wow wow.
Buying a CDMA device full price gives you no benefit whatsoever. Sprint doesn't give you any deal on service, and the resale value of locked CDMA devices is really low.
The only reason to buy full price is if there is no way to upgrade or re-sign a contract.
If she has an old "sero" plan, you can still upgrade and keep the plan. You WILL pay for a 4G data plan, but that's been true for the last 2 years of WiMax too. You should go talk to the Sprint people in the threads about the device. Plenty of people in there are upgrading on the old plan.
How do I find sprint people who upgraded?

You will probably have to call numerous times to get that phone activated on an old sero plan out wait till the phone had been out for awhile until they allow you too put it on your plan
Or buy the unlocked gsm one off Amazon and just go pre paid
That's what I'm doing Wednesday it will be here with my Sim card kit. Can't wait t mobile I'd pretty good around here so I'm set can't wait
Now just to force roam Pandora to end my contract

Is the Galaxy Nexus still a smart buy?

I currently sport a HTC Thunderbolt on Verizon and I'm seriously considering moving to an unlocked GSM phone + prepaid wireless. My question is do you think that the Galaxy Nexus is still a smart buy? Considering it's hardware, Google's hardware release cycle, etc. It would be one hell of an upgrade from the Thunderbolt... But I'm just curious what the general consensus is concerning whether or not it is wise to purchase it now (considering the possibility of a new Nexus phone in the future).
At this point of time, yes. But if you are able to wait for a few months, then just wait for the next Nexus.
Only you can decide if it's worth the money to you. We're pretty sure that there will be another Nexus at the end of the year, but it surely won't be $350. If you need to save the $$ and want the Nexus, pick one up.
I would just think about how urgently you need a device. If your current one is broken in some way, go ahead and get the gnex. But, as someone else said, if you can afford to wait a few months then I would get the next one.
it is a smart buy but i really hate the signal issues this phone has. i don't get 4G signal at all in my house and everywhere else in my town i get at least 3 or full bars of 4G

You can force 4g.
I bought this phone a week ago and I am in the 7th heaven.
1. Despite not having the best hardware at the moment, it works perfect with everything Android currently has to offer. There's really no software that requires a quad core CPU at the moment, at least not that I know of.
2. Currently it's the best device by far for it's price / performance (software) combo.
Besides that, I am done buying devices near their release dates, as it ends up being an epic waste of money. Once the next Nexus comes out, in 6 months it will cost half as much as it does near the release date. Then would be the perfect time to dump the GNex and get the next Nexus.
$350---Yes
Yea,!! Another one of these pointless threads!!!!!!

These phones are crazy cheap outright.
I gave my girlfriend my GS3 and went back to my GNexus and couldn't be happier.
This phone will be updated by Google for a long while, considering the Nexus S still gets Jelly Bean etc. Defo a worthwhile purchase

I think its still a good buy. The new Nexus phone will probably be $700+ after taxes and the $386 I just spent for this phone is obviously a lot cheaper. Even better I'm on the $30 TMobile plan.

[Q] New Galaxy Nexus...

Guys, I am new to XDA and new to Android. I was a blinded iPhone follower until now. I believe that I can do more with an Android phone than my iPhone. I don't think that I will try another iPhone. I thing its time to try something else. Of all the phones out there the one that I like the most is the Galaxy Nexus. I have heard that it is the most customizable phone out there. In the other hand I see all this other new phones that can do all kind of crazy new things that I believe the Nexus will not be able to perform the same way being an older phone.
Is there a NEW Galaxy Nexus coming out soon? Are there any rumors or speculations?

Nothing coherent yet. There may be up to 5 new Nexii, there might not be. LG, Sony, HTC might be making the new one; they might not be. However, if google keep to their rough schedule it should be out before the end of the year.
Im sure there is a new one or "ones" coming out its just the "when" it will happen. And i personally hope soon! And if they keep the price down and let the phone be unlocked like the Google Play GNEX is it will sell butloads
No one knows when Google will release another Nexus.

$150 a month? That's a lot even by crazy standards. iPhone doesn't even have LTE.
Only problem is that iPhone, like most phones, I believe, doesn't support the t-mobile 1700 band. Which means no HSPA+ data; you'd be limited to EDGE. They are in the process of changing to the 1900 band, but distribution is limited. Straight Talk is another prepaid option that allows you to be carried by AT&T for $45; see that thread. Also, some of the other guys in that thread were pushing Solavei, which will supposedly be similar. I have no real idea about those two, however, because I too use the $30 t-mobile plan with my penta-band Nexus.

[Q] [Question] Do I get the Sprint Galaxy Nexus?

Nexus 4 not an option, so what do I do now?
Here's my question: Sprint Galaxy Nexus owners, do I buy it, or should I get something else.
I really want AOSP. I'm really tired of physical and capacitive buttons. I currently have the SGSII Epic 4G Touch. I want a Google phone.
So, has this phone lived up to your expectations? What do you hate about it? Is it just freaking awesome? Ready? GO!
I'm kind of in the same position as you, I cannot get the Nexus 4 on VZW. I'm really not upset about it, I'm very happy with the Gnex, especially on CM10. Can't speak for Sprint but as for the phone I'm still happy with it after 8 months, and plan to keep it for the foreseeable future.:good: Like you said, its hard to go wrong with AOSP.
How's your battery life? My E4GT has been nothing been a pain, battery-wise.
Battery life is not great. I'm using the OEM extended battery and I still have to have a charger at work.
Drop your sprint contract (is it close to expiring?) if you can. Sell your epic 4g touch and switch to straight talk and buy a nexus 4. I used to have an e4gt flashed on virgin mobile and the sprint service I got was horrible. My new set up is much better. Also your monthly bill savings will make up for the cost of the phone fast.

I've been considering that, but my savings would be negligible since we're on a family plan. Also, since I get to be selfish and take everyone's upgrades, I'll be able to hand-me-down the Galaxy Nexus when something cool comes out... I'm so lost! I really have been seriously considering just buying the damn Nexus 4 and shopping other plans off contract. Is it really that much better?
...and, Target has the GNex for $49.99 right now.
I just bought a Sprint Galaxy Nexus and have right now an Epic 4G Touch! I am sure it'll be worth it. I bought it for around 225 off contract and ill sell this for around 150$ so it's like I spent only 70 bucks. I wouldn't panic. If you wanted a new phone you can sell the Gnex since it'll still hold its value. Waiting has got me nowhere and I know the Nexus 4 isn't coming to Sprint any time soon. Good luck!

I got the GNex with sprint this August.. I love this phone. The curved screen, so much dev support, Google support. Well, kinda. I been rooted since day one so always been on custom ROMs and kernels. My battery last all day with 4 hr screen on time with the extended battery that Sprint gives you for free. I say if you have LTE in your city go with the GNex. We have LTE here in San Antonio and it just keeps getting better and better. I don't know why people keep on hating on sprint, I have awesome service here.
