You're basically asking for someone to pay monthly fees for your phone to be subsidized which isn't going to happen without you paying substantially more than the upgrade price to cover that.

Why should we help you out? You're asking us to use our upgrade so you can get a new phone?! GTFO you cheap A$$ [email protected]#$%*
I'm sorry OP, but if you really want something in life, you've got to work hard for it.

You're only going to save a little money at best. I have a line that's eligible for upgrade but it doesn't have a data plan. So if you're gonna pay for the monthly data plan for 2 years which is 10 extra per month its yours for $550. (240 for the data plan, 200 for the phone through target 100 for the upgrade fees and tax and my time etc)

I do. What you looking to spend on it?

Wait a few months. I got my GS2 off craigslist from a guy who had a 4 line account. He upgraded all 4 lines to GS2's. Kept 2 for him and his wife and then sold the other 2 for $380 each. That covered the cost of all the upgrades. The GS3 costs a little bit more than the GS2 did, but you will start seeing them for reasonable prices on CL.

OP is crazy. Seriously.

Lmao I'm selling an Htc one S if you want to buy that.

What you are expecting people to do is very selfish on your part. No one is going to lose money for a complete stranger so they can have a new luxury phone.

Sell you mine for $300.
Then ill pull a craigslist move and claim it stolen, IMEI will be blocked then i get another one for free...

Why is the Tmobile version so much more???

I bought the phone the day after it came out but the total out the door was just short of $400. Then I would have gotten the $50 rebate.
I have a tmobile my touch 4g slide and it is a pretty good phone. I just couldn't justify $350 net so I returned it and paid the $50 restocking fee.
I got really ticked off when a co worker told me he got his from Sprint for $200. Then, a couple of days later, he told me that the cost was $100.
Why does Tmobile charge so much?

Probably the chip to support hspa+ 72 made it cost more than the lte models.
I think it's just T-Mobile's pricing structure. With my now-gone New Every Two discount on Verizon, I paid $130 with a new two-year contract for my white 16GB Galaxy S3.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
I believe it's a mix of T-Mobile having cheaper plans for voice/text/data and also it could be the fact that the phone uses HSPA+.
I got mine on June 21st so I can't complain. Plus I have nothing but excellent contact with T-Mobile and excellent cell/data service.

I paid a full $640 for mine!!! But since I save $360 a year over AT&T and Verizon using Tmobile's Monthly4G Prepaid plan so I don't mind.
This tmobile price is bs but I just called today to see if I can get an early upgrade and the guy said he'll give me an instant $50 rebate with another $50 mail in rebate so final price will be $229 not bad I guess

Booyah. I'll take the premium anyday.
(although I paid less than 200 for my upgrade due to loyalty status).

Tmobile actually lowered the price for the galaxy s3 on the tenth... If you guys still have your receipts to into the store you bought it from and they have to give you the money back for the price difference... (If you bought it within 30 days) .. I got like 33 bucks back.. Give it a try they have to do it.. I hear a lot of people getting the difference back

If your contract is up, call 611 & when prompted for input say "cancel". This should get you to the loyalty department, 'inform' them you are thinking of switching to AT&T because they offered you free Galaxy S3s if you did. They will definitely give you a better price than you can find anywhere as far as retailers are concerned. Please report your success story with us
My dad simply just called customer loyalty and said we were thinking of switching and what's the best they could do for us. So I ended up getting the 32gig white s3 for 240 and that includes shipping and all fees

Agreed! T-mobile has been losing contract customers in significant numbers to either pre-paid or other carriers. This above strategy used to work for me... until I found a family member that works there... That's what you really need!
Just to add to the info on what you should be able to easily get: my contract expired and I called to "verify" that it was. I also mentioned that I could get the same phone for $150 less with another carrier at the time. She immediately offered the phone for $229 (16gb) with a $150 bill credit to bring it down to $79. PLUS she gave me the $20 5gb data plan and a $10 monthly credit for 24 months! Also got free overnight shipping. Oh and I still get to send in for the $50 rebate!
Hope that helps give you an idea what to shoot for.

If you're off contract tmobile will do close to anything to keep you if you have been loyal (5+ years, no late payments)
For me I always jump on the latest and greatest so i'm constantly under contract, tmo still honors my loyalty and gives me great pricing along with monthly discounts.

How to ask for Tmo retention?

I wonder how long we have with their service to ask for retention. I'm with Tmo for 3 years... Is it too short?

Careful though. You may get customer loyalty first and they will try to 'solve' your issue without retentions. Loyalty will give outstanding deals but retentions can go even further.
If you are not out if contract or close to it though you may not get much.

I've been with them for 6 years but when I called them last week and said I am mad that Verizon is selling it for 199 and my upgrade cost is 329. I said I want to cancel (which I wasn't) to move to Verizon and bam. Got two S3 for 179 each and also got a mail in rebate for 50 bucks per phone. Grand total for two S3 after rebate 258.
I just feel these are reasons T-Mobile isn't fairing well. Yes we all want deals but come on. This is just whining and I feel it is ripping T-Mobile off and not making them the money they deserve to make. The S3 is $330 on T-Mobile with a mail in rebate of $50. Making it $280. Yes the other carriers have it for $199, but with their plan prices compared to T-Mobile, you are paying less with T-mobile. Saving you money over the course of your contract. I've been with T-Mobile for 7 years and have not once felt the need to call retention and lie to them about wanting to cancel and switch carriers just to save a few bucks.

Retention is there to do this. Every carrier has retention that does this. If it was that detrimental to them they wouldn't do it. The whole reason they do it is to keep you with their service so obviously it's not doing much harm.
Also some people are dishonest. That's how the world is. It's great you've never had to do this, I haven't either but some people aren't honest and some people need to save as much as they can. It happens.

T-Mobile customer service has been crap lately.
Look at the issue that I was having with them (warning: long read)
http://support.t-mobile.com/thread/29215
To continue from that thread:
I had to sent in all three of my 32GB phones and went to the store and got myself 16GB Galaxy S3s which royally pissed me off because I wanted 32GB.
I'm still waiting for the credits to be posted on my account for the 32GB phones I sent back in.
Jessica on T-Mobile forum has been really helpful with my situation and immediately posted some credits on my account to lower the cost of the 16GB S3s that I had to pay out of pocket again.
I am glad that I posted on that forum because Jessica has been the one constant person that's been helping me through all these issues. She knows the situation from A-Z and I didn't have to explain it over and over again to different CSR's.
However, the fact that T-Mobile kept messing up and not registering the phones being returned to them are problematic and I, as a customer, had to pay for that. I wanted the 32GB phones but now I'm stuck with 16GB. In the future, I don't think I'll renew my contract with them and just go month to month. Or, if I do renew my contract, it will be the value plan and I'll just buy my phones from here or ebay or something. Too much hassle having to deal with T-Mobile.
10 months yo. I have a link I saved somewhere, but Google 'tips from an former t-mobile employee' should give you the link to some great info! I personally just saved close to $400 by calling into complain, with legit complaints, but hey I'm rocking a nice new phone. Plus I was able to get early upgrades on all our lines of service.
Edit: Everybody is entitled to a rebate if one is being offered!

True, mathematically it's still cheaper if you buy it for $650 and go with the $30 plan. BUT, I will need a family plan (3 phones) and I think the math will work out better if I go with free phones and a contract.

Can't you just get it for free than pay the 200$ etf fee lol?
Because I get activation for free from my school, so I would just need to pay the ETF & discounted monthly bill right?
Thanks.

That's what I'm doing with the BestBuy Ebay deal. It's not free, but $250+tax+ETF is still way cheaper than $650+tax. I also doubt that they'd give the Note 2 away for free during that promo. If you read the fine print, I believe it says on "some" phones.
I also saw another site that had screenshots of some internal T-mobile memo (from his "friend") which showed T-Mobile cutting prices on several phones nearly in half. Not sure how realistic that is, but if they do come out with something like that, I'd bet the next step would be to increase the ETF to prevent bastards like me from taking advantage of the situation.
EDIT: Found the article for the rumored price drops, but the site hits our corporate firewall. It's at briefmobile.com.
my wife wants an S3 so this could work for her, i'm still concerned about the rebate part. I would activate it and immediately switch it to the value plan and eat the 200 buck migration fee, but would they still pay out on the rebate? I talked to customer support today, business support actually as I am going to use a corporate discount and they said yes it they would still pay the rebate but still iffy.
walmart doing 100 dollars rebate card for phones on blackfriday and cheap prices to boot, i'd rather gamble with that but who knows what will actually be available.
im also planning to get the s3 for free for my gf, then paying the $200 ETF and using it with straight talk.
seems like the cheapest way to go to get this phone.

pretty good bet that won't be tmobile.
Weird how they have 2 Galaxy S3 on that poster... Pretty sure that big phone isnt a Note II... >.<
It doesn't matter guys. They'll make you get the classic plan, not the value. Therefore you'll end up buying the phone anyways. Not free at all.
Select phones free after rebate on Classic plans. If you are planning to get the phone then pay ETF then the rebate won't go through since it takes 10-12 weeks until you get rebate back and they make sure you still have the plan...

Got 3 at $49.99

Go to best buy and have them match Fry's at 99.99 then tell them you signed up for the freedom program in January and they will give you $50 off. They will tell you "its not coming up in our system", just assure them that you did sign up for it. The system is kinda broken so they'll take your word for it. I got 3 of them yesterday for everyone on my family plan. Fantastic deal.

And has literally almost no mark up at all on tvs or computers. In fact they often sell those items below cost. They make that money back in upselling those horribly priced accessories.
Regardless, I have no stock in them, I just find it frustrating when people abuse the system and straight up lie. That could cost someone their job, I've seen it happen.

Frys is now $149 w/ 2-year contract. I know because I went there yesterday and found they upped the price (which stopped me from upgrading).
I got my G Pro for $99 at the AT&T store, too my dad's old impulse, and they gave me a $100 credit. On their system, the Impulse 4G was worth $6!! Can you believe that!

Best buy will price match that and you can trade you old phone in to att. Then it's only 49.00 plus tax. Personally I just sell my old phone but either way.

I understand about BB price matching Fry's, but then how do you go about trading in your old phone to AT&T. Doesn't AT&T give you the money for your old phone ONLY if you purchase a new one from them? Or are you saying that BB will buy your old AT&T phone just like the corporate store will?
Edit: I just went to Fry's website and I saw Verizon, T-Mo, and Sprint, but no AT&T. So, if no AT&T, then how does one get a OGPro from them?
