Yup, just do what the guy above me said!
One thing to remember tho, actually 2 things
1.The n64 rarely used the L button, so its best to map the n64 Z button to the xperia plays Left trigger.
2.DO NOT map the n64 D-pad to your xperia plays D-pad, once again the n64 rarely used the D-pad, instead, map the n64 analog controls to the corresponding directions on the xperia play.
That may sound kind of confusing but once you familiarize with the N64oid interface its a breeze.
I'm playing Killer Instinct Gold and getting a lot of music/sound skipping and performance lagging... is this normal? If so, any suggestions on how to take care of it?
And does anyone know if I am able to use or map the analog stick for the game? If so, I can't figure it out...

Overclocking/Frameskipping could help the performance issues. N64oid only allows use of the touchpads in ICS or later (which just ends up breaking performance even more).
Is the frame skipping setting in the menu/settings of N64oid?

Did you even attempt to find it yourself? It's in the Audio & Video settings.
If i remember correctly KI Gold didnt work very well so i deleted it.

Yeah, I did... I was asking because, I didn't know if you were referring to a built-in setting or a feature that had to be obtained from another program...

Yes, Mario Kart 64 use to lag like crazy, so I set the frame-rate skip from 3 (I believe) to 1. Now there's no lag. I have audio lag from time to time but I usually have my volume low so it doesn't bother me.
Also there's a *fog* effect in the n64oid setting. That may help some.

Yes but can also increase lag. I leave mine on 1. No problems for the most part.
Setting the framerate to 1 effectively brings the fps down from 60 to 30, which most games look fine at

Hello,
Just got a Play today for use with emulators as it's perfect for physical buttons. But to my surprise there is a lag in it and I mean big time.
By default it's set to auto frame skip max 2, if i leave it like that then the game looks like its jumping really badly but it sounds fine. If i set the skipping to 0 then it runs smoothly but theres this annoying poping and clicking sound on the speakers.
Some people might say i should talk to the developer of the emulators. But this isnt an issue with them, as i dont see any other users with these issues and I don't really belive them to be true when lower devices run these emulators without issues.
I'm running stock formware 2.3.3 latest update. I havent removed any system apps at all literally just bought the play, updated software, loaded emulators and discovered this.
For snes I use supergnes and it has the best sound I have ever seen outside of bsnes, no crackling and a nice front end for launching games.

Thanks that one looks really nice and seems to work better than Snesoid!
Just remove some of the stuff on your homepages, like the game launchers, and the Timescape widget, also the photo and video one too, and the emulators should run better.

I'm making a video to demonstrate the problems. I'll add it to youtube shortly hopefully people can then tell if it's normal or not.
EDIT: Heres the video
Description:
In this video I play Gameboid with pokemon first showing it with frameskip set to auto and 0, and you need to listen carefully to the sound so you can hear that it crackles all the time which is very annoying. I then change the frameskip to 2 which is the default and you can then see that the game skips and jumps and is just too laggy to be belivable.
After that i try out Gensoid and you can see the same results from me running sonic. I get this result with every game i try. I also tried md.emu for sega but it was better but still skipped when the frameskip wa set to auto.
If anyone knows what I can do to solve this please let me know iw ould greatly aphiciate it as i bought the play JUST for emulators, if it doesnt play them then its totally a waste of money for me.
As soon as I got mine, I updated to 2.3.4, and tried Outrun(mame), Sonic 1, and 2 Gensoid), and Contra(Snesoid), both had bad sound, just like on my old phone, which really wasn't up to the job, but on removing Timescape, and that stupid photo and video widget, and the emulators virtual pads, they ran like a charm, Gensoid, Snesoid, and Mame4Droid all work fine, with no sound issues now.
Mame4Droid, I unticked Threaded Sound, as it seemed to cause issues, the others were left with stock settings, bar the virtual screen buttons removed.
I see, I was thinking that i'm the only one with the issues. Well in the end I went to the MIUI build on here and went away from the 'oid' series. Belive it or not but I found Genesis A.D. and MD.Emu to be faster and full speed or at least 99.99%. genplusdroid had a problem it was running slow and also the sound was a tone lower.
Also Snes A.D. seems to be full speed with Chrono Trigger sound included. Have yet to try Snes9x.
SNES: check
SEGA: check
GBC: check
PSX: check
MAME: havent tried
ATARI: havent tried
N64: check
GBA: no dice still lags with gameboid and gba player lite is jumpy, anyone know of another?
FPSE has a bad case of crackling sound... but only if the app is on the background. While you're actually using it there is no problem.
Has anyone here been able to set these up so they run smooth? N64oid has major slowdowns in Zelda and other resource intensive games. I am on HD reveloution where software rendering is disabled so its using the full PowerVR GPU. The Nexus has specs similar to the Galaxy S II and should not perform as slow as it is now.
Also in FPSE the analog sticks dont work and are not centered where you put you finger on the screen. Any ideas?
Also why does using the Microboes or bubbles live background lag the UI soooooo much.
I haven't used FPSE, but I've used n64oid quite a bit over the last few days. It's not 60fps but it's playable, depending on the game. That's not to say it's without bugs...
-Most games seem to randomly experience extreme slowdown and 3+ second hangs. This makes MarioKart and Starfox virtually unplayable at times.
-Sometimes it will sometimes completely freeze at these points of extreme slowdown, to the point where the game needs to be reset. This has gotten me into the habit of saving states FREQUENTLY.
-In Zelda OoT, the camera doesn't move at all in the courtyard of Hyrule castle, so you're effectively stuck at that point, since you can't see where you're going as soon as you walk off-screen. Obviously this isn't specific to the Gnex, but it's worth mentioning for the dev's information
I'm using a bone stock LTE 4.0.2 Galaxy Nexus.

Under the development options in android see if there is a "Force GPU rendering" option and if there is check it and let me know if there are any changes.
I notices if you disable fog and stretch to fix screen on N64oid you see a HUGE performance increase.
Im hoping the dev for FPSE fixes the analog issues soon.
Like others, it seems to depend on the game. Metal Gear Solid is virtually unplayable on psx4droid, and doesn't even load on FSpe. Intelligent Qube works fine on FPse but doesn't load on psx4droid. As for N64oid, MarioKart actually works fine for me outside of a few audio skips here and there, it's pretty responsive. F-Zero X works flawlessly.
One thing I find troubling though is that when I hook up the MHL to HDMI adapter games that once played fine take a noticeable hit in performance. MarioKart becomes unplayable once I hook up the adapter. Does anyone know if the adapter demands more resources (GPU/CPU/RAM/etc)? I would imagine it does since the phone doubles the output instead of redirects it (phone display and MicroUSB out) but I also am not technical enough to really know how this stuff works. It's crummy, cuz playing the N64 and PSX emulators on my projector with a PS3 dual shock controller was one of the major things I was looking forward to with this phone. I see videos on youtube of people doing this on their GSII and it works fine. What gives? Is it ICS?
No its because the gn is pushing 2.4x more pixels than the gs2 and a less powerful gpu.
1280x720 vs 800x480

That has yet to be fully determined. Some ppl hv smoother frame rates than other on the same game but different rom. Though it could be software and hardware related. We need to reach out to the dev (yongzh) and let him know

Forcing GPU didn't seem to make a difference, and actually seemed to crash some emulators. I've kept stretch off because N64 games aren't widescreen, and toggle fog made a VERY slight difference.
Mupen64Plus seems to be running a tad faster than n64oid. just set autoframe skip and max frame skip to 5. BUT the on screen controls keep disappearing and are rather tiny.

You're right, it's definitely running faster than n64oid. But the disappearing controls are obnoxious, and I think the emulator itself needs a little bit of polish. For example, if you lock the screen and wake it back up, it closes the emulator completely. Same if you get a call or something.
Has fpse implemented sixaxis controller app yet? Or using sixaxis or usb contoller period?
Crazy world, ay?
I've been using PS3 dualshock via sixaxis for FPse just fine since I've had the phone. Just have to map it out in the settings.

Ok. I tried recently and it did not work completely. Any suggestions where i might've messed up?
Crazy world, ay?
Use the free sixaxis pairing app to assign the bluetooth address of your phone to the controller (requires hooking your controller up to your computer with a usb cable). Once you've done that, use the paid sixaxis app to actually pair the controller to the phone via bluetooth. Then, within FPse go into settings, input, hardware keys, and just map the buttons. I know you've probably done some of the beginning of that already, but I'm not really sure where you're having problems.
Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone uses FPse, the PSX emulator. I just recently purchased it and that damed thing killed my weekend. I was playing Metal Gear Soild the entire weekend trying to get the best performance etc. Looks like 'old software drawing' and Open-GL Blits mode or whatever works the best, but I want to rock Open GL. Once I turn it on, the performance plummets for me. Any suggestions on settings etc?
EDIT: Would a certain BIOS make a difference in performance? I'm using SCPH1002
Thanks,
--Marc
not sure about the bios thing, i have installed 1001. havent tried any games, need to find the psx stash, can't remember where i stored the few i kept to make an iso.

downloaded it today cuz i read that it now finally supports skullmonkeys the best damn game i ever played in my life (appart form max payne cuz i really like the stories and the comics in max payne and the vidz in skullmonkeys and what not)
i was stunned how it works, no lag no nothing with a game 627MB big. i use scph1001 as he recommended and thats it. non of the tweeks in video settings do anything cuz the frame rate stays at 59-60 constant and the picture quality stays the same, not perfectly clear but decent.

If you download/install the Open-GL plugin, it looks way better, BUT, I've noticed a huge performance hit during cut scenes etc.
Never heard of Skullmonkeys.
EDIT: Oh crap, did the most recent update and it completely borked for me.. v0.11.46

sorry bat what is the word "borked" i don't mean it bad but i cant figure it out

Hehe, 'borked' on urban dictionary just means it broke or messed up. How do you get these other plugins? I don't mind running it at the other video modes but I'd like to get the Open GL one working since it looks so awesome!

Use ePSXe! It is much better!
Requires no setup in order to play games smoothly Give it a try
He's asking for settings for opengl graphics, he can run it fine on his normal settings, doesn't need a new emu.

Difference by changing BIOS:
On boot screen text changes - sometimes Trademark logo, sometimes Copyright
Different menu for memory card management.
FPS lock ---
by last number in bios
0 - Japan NTSC --- 60FPS SCPH-1000, ...
1 - USA NTSC --- 60FPS SCPH-1001, SCPH-101, ...
2 - Europe PAL --- 50FPS SCPH-1002, SCPH-7502, ...
best BIOS for using is SCPH-101 - its newest bios from PS One console - much smaller and rounded corners
and also use NTSC-U game ISO
I've always used the 1001 bios for my PS1 emulators. I've used both FPse and ePSXe and FPse is honestly smoother for me. I have never messed with the performance settings and its always ran good. I played through all of Metal Gear Solid on my tablet with no issues.
Side note: I've been playing Final Fantasy 7 lately. I had forgotten how fun that game is.
im playing ff9 via epsxe on my xplay and its running fine. almost perfect. i always get 60 fps, but when i try to use opengl, frame drops. what is the best settings ,we xplay users, can have on epsxe ?? tia guys.

Because shield is way more powerful than OUYA perhaps?
Shields A15 core vs OUYAs A9 gives a huge boost in performance, the Shield is clocked higher and has way more GPU cores.
Someone will probably root the Shield pretty damn quick, sixaxis probably wont be a problem.

Also, if you enjoy local multiplayer games, you can't go wrong with the Ouya.

I've been playing around with my roomates shield. It has some weird problems with emulators. For instance, the "Y" button is the menu key in android. So whenever I try to bind it to something in an emulator it opens the "menu" of the app instead. Not sure how to fix it.

That's called a "fallback". If the app isn't catching it when you're trying to assign the button, they somehow really messed up the app.
Fallback occurs when an app doesn't handle a button press. For instance, pressing B falls back to BACK if an app doesn't support the B button. Most controller-based apps do, though... :-/
The more I play the more a realize that there seems to be a slight audio delay in basically any emulator I use. The video quality is great, no stuttering or anything, but it seems like the audio is delayed like a fraction of a second on everything. Like in mega man on nes I push jump and he does the complete jump then I hear the sound or if I shoot the gun the sound comes after the bullet is halfway between his weapon and the edge of the screen.
In the SNES emulator I have tried there seems to be delay. I tested that in contra 3 using weapons.
In mupen64 or supern64 there is a delay which I have noticed playing majora's mask. Swing links weapon and he completes the swing before the weapon makes a sound or if you are running and do a roll, he has completed the roll before you hear the sound.
A quick google search returned a few recent results with similar experiences on various android devices. Anyway, it isn't a deal breaker and I hope it gets sorted at some point.

This is a problem if the emulator is just mapping hardware buttons and doesn't understand controllers. I don't think there's a lot you can do in that case (except maybe hope they update the emulator). All the emulators I have installed work fine.

so far the best emulation and control support I found is:
Snes9x EX+
SuperN64
FPse ( the analog triggers wont map) can any1 find a better one? or Free 1?

and the dolphin emu is in alpha but i get nothing.<<<i would pay money for this one and the psp one
if they get them optimized for shield
