because every time I click into a thread, the ads keep me from being able to click the back button to back up a page. I end up having to back up through 4, 5, or 6 http://ads.xda-developers.com URL's before I can get back out of a thread. I'm all for using ads to pay the bills, but this is ridiculous. Is there any way to block these or prevent it from hindering my browsing?

Maybe try using the parent forum link at the top of the page instead of the back button?
This has unfortunately been going on for a while. It was most prominent when I was using IE8 at work, I was unaffected at home (using Firefox) until recently, and now I have to press the back button 4-5 times just to go back a page.
Great post !
Great post, thanks for sharing
We need legislation to stop this crap. I sometimes wonder why they even bother to put a back button on browsers. Many websites pull this crap. Really been pissing me off with this nonsense. STOP HIJACKING OUR BACK BUTTONS WITH THE DAMN REDIRECTS!

I really don't want to have to go back up to the top of a page to navigate back. I have a 'back' button on my mouse so I don't have to. Just that the crappy ads here prevent me from using it.

I agree. If it wasn't for the great developers here, I'd stop coming over this. I wish the devs would collectively up and leave to a new site that was surfing friendly.
This friggin sux. I have been experiencing the same issue. Anyone find a solution?

The reason we stay is because this is the best place for developers to share there work with each other. Other sites try but fail.
Is this bug just in IE? If it is just try using a real web browser
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
I was a bit surprised that nobody apart zacthespack said use a different browser. IE has gotten a bit better but really? Hit chrome or firefox for a better experience. As a tip, AD Blockers do not work so well with chrome on some computers.

I hope I'm being blind but I can't see it. Hell I only found out recently that a long press on the back button brings up bookmarks, history and saved web pages.
Someone please tell me I'm being blind.

I could be wrong, but I don't think there's been a home button in stock browser in a long time (if ever).
Im guessing if you open a new window, it will go to your homepage.

That is a massive tip it's been drving me nuts having to scroll to the top.
Yea I don't think there is a home button. I like the Honeycomb browser and the MIUI Siren Browser where the tabs are visible at the top like a desktop browser.
Not quite the home button but you can type a search into the address bar (with a quick flick to bring to life)
Although I can't answer your question, I like to thank you for the tip. Long pressing the back button is a great shortcut to get fast into the bookmark menu!

p.s not my image, ignore the volume thing.
once enable, by touching the frame, the blue control appear.
the first one gives you opened tabs.
the middle globe gives you the search address bar immediatly,
and the ... give you extra menu.

What exactly are you asking though? I've never used car dock so I'm not sure what you want
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk 2
Well when you pop it in a dock, the dock home screen comes up. In the Accessory menu, you can turn it off, but you can't change it to a different app.
Threads about this online suggest to clear the data for the dock home screen apk, but I don't see anything like it in the ALL applications list.
To make it more complicated, I don't see a Navigation apk in that list either, so even if it came down to app choice to fill the void, I might only be able to go as far as Maps.
Just wondered if anyone knew anything about an app or something to get it to do what I want: docked and loads Navigation.

Well you'd be helping hopefully a bunch of folks out looking for something similar, like choosing your default dock app.

In the screenshot I posted, is that what you want? Having it prompt you is a little more work. It's possible but not as easily done as hard coding navigation to be default

Essentially, in landscape of course. Maps is also the 4th choice on my phone. That's the one I usually select.
So just an FYI for a mod or site developer, the home page of XDA doesn't have the same device search as you get when you click on the Forum link.
Dupe - browser > goto xda-developers.com or from any XDA page click on the PORTAL link. On the Find your Device on Forum field (top right) type in HTC ONE and notice the best you get is the HTC One X+.
Now click on Forum and type the same thing into the same field and notice you see all the variants of the HTC ONE.
I'm guessing these are pointing at two different sets of meta data for their search lookup. Just thought someone might want to know.
And now I know it's a sight issue and I'm not crazy (well i'm crazy but not like that crazy)

Only thing so far is it stopped when I got a call during navigation. Dont know if itll keep happening but thats the only thing so far that hasnt worked.

I ended up going back to the old version because they brought back some annoyances in the version, they had finally removed in the previous updates.
One, I use the map for just general guidance and traffic(not really point A to B directions). This new version never seems to remember the mode I left the map in, when I go back. So when the map shows, it doesn't remember I use view from behind "follow" type view(so I am always facing "up"). I have to hit the little button on the bottom right a few times to find the correct view.
Seconds, the map and text on the map is now too small by default again. It also doesn't remember my previous zoom level. The old version had this issue till later updates made the road names larger.
Also, when going under/over an overpass, the map goes bonkers, not knowing if I'm on the cross street or the road I was on as the map starts adjusting it's view wildly, till I'm passed the overpass. This gets VERY annoying when trying to see exits/entrances to highways.
I'll wait till they work out the kinks.
At first I didn't like it either but if your mind is dev material then everything becomes VERY easy, very quick.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda app-developers app
The update sucks. They dropped way too many useful features. Reminds me of an iPhone app now. Pretty but limited functionality. Trying to revert to old one as I type this.
Yep. While it is pretty and smooth, functionally, it leaves a lot to be desired compared to the previous version.
Look at the comments section on the Play Store. Not too many people liking it at all.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda premium
And it definitely doesnt handle multi tasking very well. Doing anything else during navigation force closes it. Not very good when ur on the freeway and u get a call and it closes and u have no idea where ur going. Lol. Had to go back to old version.

So I thought it may just be me but after getting a fee people to test it seems this site is trying to install malicious software when you visit and are not logged in (mobile device) I've included some screen shots as I think this is quite a big security breach with the amount of users here..

Isn't the while point if the forums to stop things like this? I sure as hell don't expect XDA DEVS to need to install this app on my own phone. I was under the assumption that developers could be trusted on here so why the need for this? Also a simple search on Google flags it as malware

Thank you for reporting this - this isn't something XDA itself is promoting but it is coming through one of our ad networks and we have been unable to track it down. Did it take you to the play store to install that App? Or did it download the APK directly?

I go that on a different site yesterday. Bad popup ad with no ability to click out of it. What happens when a site doesn't screen their advertisers, they get to look like idiots.
As a note, my bet is it's "Clean Master" as I'm seeing that same general popup without the virus warnings today.
I applied xda reconized contributer form last month . I got a reply including a link containing comments of my application reviewer . I just follow that link , but I get Notification from my antivirus about bug contents .

Sorry guys, but safety first.
I always thought that those were fake. They trick you into thinking that you have a virus , then the app you install to remove the virus is the actual virus. I just click those off
