Recovery Version - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

Hey all,
I flashed to s-off and rooted 2 days ago. I installed the recovery version that was linked on the Revolutionary website- CWM 4.0.1.4. I keep reading posts referring to Touch recovery and some saying it is required for some ROM flashes. What's the deal? Am I good to go? Thanks

Try searching before posting. Cwm touch is in the development forum, as well as a few other recoveries.

I did search. I was not looking for it, I already downloaded it. I was asking about it.

You need to flash via fastboot & CWM 5.**** & 6.**** to flash ICS & JB.
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda app-developers app

Instructions for flashing are on the page. Any ROM should work fine with whatever recovery you have. I would recommend using 4ext over cwm touch since it's faster and has better options though. Sorry if I came off a bit mean in my first post, the OP wasn't very clear to me.

So:
I cannot upgrade from cwm 4x to 6x. Have to install 5x first?
4ext is better anyway.
I need at least 5x to flash ICS.- This was really what my question was about. I saw a post claiming this and another refuting it. I flashed UKB-X from my current recovery. Proto, you are saying I can flash any ROM from my current version?
BTW- I saw another post that said the reason 6x ran faster nandroids is because it does incremental, not full backups. If that is the case I don,t want it anyway.
.
Thanks.

You should be able to flash any ROM, ICS or not shouldn't make a difference. UKB is ICS. You don't need to install 5 before 6, flashing a new recovery completely wipes the old one.

I had just contacted the dev before opening youre replies on this thread. His response came back as I was writing this post:
"CWMR 6 has some new backups type which are basically cumulative backups. Those aren't possible to restore with 4ext yet. Backups from earlier versions are perfectly fine."
So it looks like CWM now uses incremental backups and they won't work with 4ext. I think I prefer to have only full backups and from what I hear from you proto and the great reviews in the app market, I will be installing 4ext.
Thanks!

I know there were issues with CM9 not mounting /system in CWM 4,but it may be fixed by now.
You can jump to CWM 6 no problem. Touch recovery is nice, but I'm going back to the standard CWM 6 because aero has it working.

@ prototype: you are correct about trying to restore a cwm backup in 4ext. I must not have been clear enough...I didn't care for the long backup times on cwm and the fact that other recoveries can't restore them.

I got a link to this thread by marcmarshall.
There are no known issues with 4ext since a very long time and since I got something like 100.000 users, I'd think that someone would have already reported issues with installing CM9 if there were any.
But anyway, if there are, someone please tell me, because I'm eager to fix any issues asap!
My priority is to keep 4ext bugfree.

[Q] Clockworkmod V2.6.0.1 is gone!

Does anyone know if there was a change made to ROM Manager/Clockworkmod Recovery yesterday?? I had V2.6.0.1 installed and yesterday afternoon I got a notice that Clockworkmod Recovery had been upgrade and to download the new release. It was 3.0.0.5 (RomManager Version 3.0.0.7) so I updated my recovery.
This morning I tried to install a ROM that I have installed dozens of times before using v2.6.0.1 but this time it wouldn't run because of the scripting issues within V3. I tried to find & reload V2.6.0.1 but RomManager does not list it as an alternate install at the bottom of RomManager's setting page.
Anyone else receive the update notice?
I got the update message yesterday too! I chose not to update because I knew about the issues you talked about. You can flash RA recovery, flash ROM, then go back if you need to. Or I can get you the zip if clockwork that does both versions of scripting..... Wait can't do that from the xda app....okay ill post it up when I get to my work computer...unless someone else throws it up before I do.

Guess I got beat to it but here is the zip file anyways.
CM still has an option to go to 2.5.0.7
I did not know this Sh%^t and could not restore any nands and was forced to unroot and start over. Seemed easier (for me) than pushing a recovery. I was not able to boot into anything to make the change... one would think that clockwork would play nice with older clockworks

How do I install the .zip file? Installing via recovery is only temporary. Next reboot it's back to 3.0.0.5

gzibell, I know this is an old thread, and I don't even have an Evo (I have a lowly Sprint Hero), I was just looking for an earlier version of clockwork than the 3.0.0.5 I'm currently using and I ran across this thread, and your post made me aware that I could flash 2.5.0.7 strictly as a temp, without losing the embedded 3.0.0.5 that I'm currently using...what an awesome idea!
So I tried it, and it works great!
Just want to say thanks for that post, friend!

I have heard that there is a new CWM recovery fr the Samsung Epic, is this true? could it be?
Right now I'm on 5.0.0.7 and as far as I know its the latest and greatest. Am I right or am I a total dummy?

Sorry i guess I worded it wrong my bad but I understand your point are you completely stock because I didn't use his return CWM. I just wiped and installed CM9. So it uses the baked in version of CWM recovery.

CWM6? Yes, i've used that as well on CM9 & 10. As for the Epic(my daily), i'd like to know if anyone knows where I can find a later version than v5.0.2.7 ?
I've seen v5.5.0.4, but I believe that isn't for the Epic.
What I like about the newer versions of CWM is auto-scroll. (when you just hold down/up on the volume button and away you go, VS "click-click-click-click. UGH" )
Also, Im currently on (my fav) The People's Rom (TPR). I am hoping any newer version of CWM will work with the Epic and the rom.
Feedback will be awarded with thank you's nd smileys

Heck yeah 5.0.2.7 is the latest and greatest. TWRP recovery is pretty good too, but I think that is only exclusive to some newer Roms. CWM 5.0.2.7 is about your best bet, unless you like CWM's older recovery versions but I would not recommend that.
And just another Thank you to DRockstar, awesome job! I've been using it for all different kinds of things and I haven't had one problem.

I'm using TWRP because it's what I've used on my prior HTC devices and I'm familiar with it. I've read that 4EXT recovery might be available for our phones soon, and I'll switch to that if it becomes available.

+1 on 4EXT, That's by far my favorite recovery:good:
Where did you hear that it was coming to the sgs3?
I emailed madmaxx on it and he said he was really busy with allot of other models and he would look into our sgs3's since it's a popular device.
Hopefully we will see it soon:fingers-crossed:
CWM is great, but TWRP is just awesome.
For me, TWRP has these little things that just make sense, like a link to wipe dalvik/cache right after you flash something, option to queue up multiple zips to flash in a certain order, option to compress your backups (because they do end up taking quite a bit of space if you have multiple backups), etc.

I believe I read on their site that they may begin working in it at a future date. I'm satisfied with TWRP, but I'm hopeful that 4EXT is "in the cards" so to speak.
Edit: it appears like they want to start working on the international version of the SGS3. Hopefully we might me able to sway them towards working on the stateside version first.

I like twrp personally. Layouts better and easier to use. Plus it has a built in file manager.
Cwm has the ability to prevent itself from being overwritten after ota update but there's other ways around this.

I prefer twrp (only when 4ext isn't available). I talked to madmaxx82 and he was in middle of a complete redesign/overhaul on the UI of 4ext when started having computer issues. Yes, install goo manager from the playstore and install recovery from there. No you will not be able to restore any backup made with CWM in TWRP.
Thanks for the quick answer. I think I'll just stick with CWM for now. I'd love to see EXT for us, I had that for the sensation and loved it and was a bit disappointed to find there wasn't a version here.

[Recovery] CWM Recovery is officially out for Tmobile Note 2 (12/21/2012)

For those of you that prefer CWM over TWRP, today is your lucky day. CWM Recovery has been officially released for the Tmobile Galaxy Note 2.
Instructions for flashing via mobile Odin:
I'm not responsible if you bork your phone. If you are unsure of what you are doing, simply download and install directly from ROM Manager.
1) Always create a backup
2) Download the recovery of your choice (Touch or Non-Touch)
3) Download and install Mobile Odin from the Google Play Store
4) Rename the recovery imagines to "recovery" without the quotes, and copy to your phone (internal memory or extSDCard)
5) Load up Mobile Odin and grant SU permission and download files as instructed to update for this device.
6) Simply select "Recovery" and browse to the recovery.img file on your phone.
7) Scroll down and select "Flash Firmware"
That's about it.
If you want to flash via terminal use the following command
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

I was hoping for official CWM recovery for our Note II variant and voila, here it is! No more needing to install the GT-N7100 versions!! Hopefully, these bugs get fixed soon.

That version of CWM is intended for the international Note II (GT-N7100) and not ours. Even though it works with our phones (running 6.0.1.9), it'd be more preferred to have a recovery that supports our variant version.
I have also been using CWM since day1 with the note 2...... not sure what all the fuss is about.

Have you guys tried TWRP ?? It's pretty damn robust. I switched from CWM ever since I got the Note 2 and haven't looked back. The dev updates it pretty regularly which is a definite plus.
I've been running TWRP for a while. I preferred the touch screen interface but I know CWM has it as well. Is there any major difference between the two? From my understanding CWM has been around longer but other than that I don't know if there is any difference. Is there a benefit of either or is it just a personal preference at this point? Either way, thanks to the Op for letting others know.

I haven't used T889 CMW so can't compare the two precisely, but the 7100 CMW didn't backup efs partition and stuff whereas TWRP does. And that alone was enough for me to switch.

Koush is extremely talented no doubt about that, but things have changed. Rom manager used to be great before 4.0. Now everything has become so mainstream and easy. The shelf life of that app is beyond over. Apps don't last forever. Sometimes it's because of os evolution and other times it's because of dwindling interest on the dev's part . That's how new apps are released.

personally 4EXT is much cleaner and just as robust as either TWRP or CWM. I know there is talk of 4EXT coming to the Note II, got my fingers crossed

Oh really? Never heard of it. Will have to read up on it. Thanks.
TWRP Bootloop
I've been usin TWRP for the longest time, on my sgs III and Note II. All of a sudden last week I go into recovery to flash an add on and I get a boot loop in TWRP. Couldn't even pull battery and boot system back. Had to odin CWM, then I updated the TWRP script and would still get a bootloop. So I odin'd back to CWM again and staying for the time bein.
Anyone have any idea why this would happen?
Currently on My Rom 4.1.2.v2

hmm really? Never encountered this myself. It's hard for recovery to get corrupt, unless the addon messed up that partition. Are you on the latest version (2.3.3.1) ?

CWM or TWRP

So i just wanted to know which people prefer and why. personally i prefer CWM because it was the first recovery i used and it is just easier to navigate in my opinion.
I've tried both on the SGS3. IMO CWM is better on the SGS3, than TWRP.

MikROMs Since 3/13/11
I started with cwm touch, and really liked it. Switched to twrp when I installed a custom rom (at their suggestion). Now I really don't have a preference. I keep both zips on my extsd, so I can switch to whatever I want to use...

Shortly after I installed TWRP on my Epic, it hard bricked when installing a ROM. I cannot say for sure it was because of TWRP, but when that happened I've never tried TWRP again, and I haven't had another bricked phone. Coincidence?? Possibly.
TWRP FTW
IBTW it had it issues with The Epic 4G Touch but not anymore that a thing of the past.

I'm very new to this phone although not to rooting. Neither CWM or TWRP were good on the EVO 4G. As a matter of fact if someone asked for help or had trouble flashing the 1st order of business was to ditch either of those recoveries and install amon_ra.
Consequently I've wanted to ask this question too and I'm gonna keep an eye on this thread.
TWRP. It's the obvious choice. :good:
Cnexus built a recovery switcher that allows you to switch between cwm/cwm touch/twrp. I say install it, and try em all out
I know the first time I used twrp, I had an issue because if you have it set to check mdsum, it will fail if it can't find one. Simple, but it did kinda freak me out.

I thought the same thing for a bit. Then I used TWRP 2.4.40 PR 2.4.2.0 or whatever that one was called, and I am loving it. Works perfectly fine for me. Used a flash able zip too.

Sprint Galaxy S3 "Supernexus"
Whiplashh Rom
Look it up.
CWM doesn't let you queue multiple zips as far as I can tell, so I've been using TWRP.
TWRP all the way, plus you can theme it! The one and only thing that annoys me about TWRP is that the clock is always off -__-
Both are great and different roms need either to work right. But in my experience trwp backs up and restores without error. Clockwork never restored properly on any of my phones from og evo, evo lte or my sgs3. But clockwork flashes radio updates better, at least my reception bar level or data connectivity.

Coincidence, the epic 4G has a bug that caused it to hardbrick when flashing certain roms (memory fault in the kernel or something like that). There was a workaround for this though.
Might as well put my 2 cents in. I have used both recoveries on my devices. I have no personal choice as to one is better than te other issue. I can tell that once cwm was actually fixed and built for the Epic it worked perfectly prior to that when it was first ported over to the OG Epic it was hit or miss, the orange cwm. Oh well my Epic did just fine on both. My Galaxy Nexus works better with TWRP for whatever reason it just does and my S3 prefers CWM again never had an issue with either on those devices but when I use the other recovery on each of those devices they become temperamental and start acting up. I know it's funny but that's what I know of my devices. They are both very good recoveries and they have come a long way since the early days.

So let me ask this: when a rom dev suggests a recovery, is that just because that's what the rom was tested with? Have you had an instance where you've *had* to use a specific recovery (other then one kind working better on a specific phone)?
Thanks

I'm not sure how themeing a recovery is useful? It's not like I'm showing my friends, hey look at this cool recovery. But which ever is fine.

I flashed a lot of Roms on my epic, yes it could be coincidence, but like I said, shortly after flashing TWRP I was warranting my phone because it didn't make it through a flash. I tried everything including once when odining my epic my daughter yanked the plug out. I recovered from that even by removing my battery and plugging it into the computer. After TWRP, I couldn't even do that. And really I have no idea if it was the recovery, but yeah, I chose CWM.

No makes no difference, that's because that person has a personal liking for that recovery or like I said his device just responded better to that recovery. Makes no difference roms are not built for specific recoveries. Well not always there was an instance on the OG Epic where in order to flash cm9 the phone had to be re partitioned and a special recovery was necessary and the cm team built the recovery flash into the rom. That's another story for a different thread.

Sometimes recoveries don't like certain roms...doesn't happen often, but it can
I know on my EVO Shift, Sense roms could be flashed ONLY with CWM for some reason, as TWRP wouldn't flash it properly.

So betweem you and ed, I should be able to flash a rom with either recovery unless posts show problems flashing with a specific one. And, if I *were* to have problems flashing, I may want to attempt to flash using a different recovery....
If that's the case, I just might pick one recovery, and stick with it!

I started out using CWM but lately I've been using TWRP instead and I like the large buttons and touch interface of it. I'm sticking with it I think.
