im trying to get my s2 to ics. When i got it was on gb, and even now there is no update when i check it through the phone? I have already rooted it so my question was can i just flash an ics rom and it will work?
Also can anybody point me to the most stable rom for s2?
Yes just flash an ics rom and make sure to darkside super wipe and cache wipe. I would say try aokp if you don't need wifi calling.
If I helped you hit that "thanks" button
Thanks for the quick reply mate! I just downloaded the dark side tools and am browsing through the various roms right now. Is Aokp stable, b/c i was surfing through cm9 official not nightly posts and seems it still has quite a few bugs. Looking for daily driver.
I also have 2 more questions. There are a lot of modems, once i flash a rom will i need to flash a new modem to work with ics? Or am i good already as it will come with the rom or not need to be changed.
Second, what kernel do you guys recommend?

Yeah you need to flash an ics radio. Its modified to work. In darksides rom threads there are links to radios that are compatible.
For stability aokp is fine...I'm on darkside.evolution.3.v8. Pretty stable and has wifi calling which I need for international calls. You should give it a go....everything you need is in his OP. Easy as cake
Good luck

I'm loving AOKP, but also lived Darkside Evolution.
You'll want an ICS radio (I use the Telus one here in Phoenix). Also the Darkside Venom Kernel, and eugene's sleeper app...fantastic. Good luck.

Over tmo stock Wi-Fi calling? Are you sure about that?
EDIT: Here's the correct info:
-Calling to a foriegn country from the US should be charged international LD.
-Calling from a foriegn country to a foriegn country will be charged international LD as if youre in the US.

The key for succesful wifi calling overseas is to make sure youve got a good connection and plenty of bandwidth which, depending on where you are, may be hard to find.

I'm not sure fi wifi calling requires the tmobile modem, so it's really up to you guys to test and report in. What i can tell you is these modems will not damage your device.
they all work for me on telus (with exception of the DoMoCo one, since have no networks it supports here) However using the tmobile and rogers radio cut my HSPA+ speeds down to HSPA as the radios appear not to support dual channeling of HSPA on 850/1900 like telus needs.
for some reason it wont install on CM7 i have tried CWM and ROMmanager, no go on either, its the Tmobile vk1 radio

Diffrent radios might increase reception in some areas, increase download speeds and might improve battery life or they can do the opposite and be detrimental to recepition, download speeds and battery.... Users results may vary. Flash and test for your self.

Generally fastboot is the safest method because of the bit check before flashing but I run the G2/ HTC Vision radio thread and as long as the MD5 matches it pretty safe, out of over 10000 downloads of my G2 flashable radio zips I think ive only seen 1 brick but even that one couldnt 100 percent be connected to the flashable zip so in general I thinks its very safe.

if i try it and it doesnt work out for me, how can i remove the radio file that i flashed?
I seem to always get in trouble for making a thread, or it goes unnoticed. just a question on how much work would it be to port over a Verizon gnex rom to sprint gnex? I'm not dev at all but I imagine it would only be a radio and some other small things. Again I could be missing the big picture, I just got my sprint gnex yesterday and I can't wait for highly custom roms! If its not to advanced I'd love to take a crack at it if anyone would be willing to teach me how
Mods move it to wherever you want....
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Too me it just seems that something needs to be done with the radio as of now flashing a verizon rom works fine except for the radio which is data and whatnot. As soon as they get aosp running with mms fixed and find the radio so if the radio gets borked then I am sure those developers of the verizon roms could hopefully just add compatibility with sprint.
That is all I know as of now

One is not better then the other
In fact like i said above Verizon roms almost fully work on ours except the radio, once they get that fixed i am sure we can share roms with verizon people but who knows? Our device is still brand new and will be a little bit til we have as many roms as verizons forum
BTW don't flash verizons roms until there is a radio fix some poor people have broken radios and are waiting as people are looking to fix it.
just in case you were thinking about flashing one
There is nothing superior about Sprint roms that isn't remedied by AOSP.
Now if you are talking about zip roms, tsk, tsk.
Those are a crime against humanity...er, the Nexus The device is open enough to not warrant such a thing.

They use differen radio frequencies, which the CPUs are programmed for. They are incompatible. That's what causes the data problems. That's just about the only difference in terms of hardware.

Once we have the cdma radio pulled and mms working would there be anyway that verizon roms with a little modification to the radio and whatnot to get them working easily. or do they have to redo the whole rom special?

The only real difference from Sprint to Verizon are the ril props outside of the mms issue.
So, no, not hard, but just as easy for the devs to simple compile for Sprint.

except that you are mistaken. My old phone was an LG G2X and both CM7 and CM9 have WiFi Calling working on that phone's releases.
What exactly is needed to get it working? Can you just copy the APK and associated files from a stock rom and paste them into a CM9 or is there some underlying system-level programming that has to be done as well?
It is not in the cm9 d2tmo 7/27 nightly.
Cm9 least brings back the 2g/3g toggle so battery life is better than stock without wifi calling in 2g only mode.
Fyi the nightlies are stable... only issues for me are with camera

I haven't bothered to look through the sgs3 source, but on my old t-959 vibrant, wifi calling also required support compiled into the kernel (KINETEO_GAN or something like that) so it's likely that we'll need the source and means to do the same for the sgs3 before wifi calling is even a possibility on cm10.
And hey, maybe that support is already in the source, like I said, I haven't bothered to download it and check.
Cheers

And it will never be built into official CM source.

I just reflashed my old Desire Z with the official CM7.2 downloaded from RomManager, and it came with the TMo WiFi calling built in. I'm very interested in this. My office is a cellular black hole. I need to be able to make WiFi calls with my TMo number. I don't care about the other free WiFi calling apps. I hope CM will eventually support this, or someone comes out with a patch.
BTW, the CM team is amazing. I'm not complaining about them.

First off, you should not even joke about telling someone to flash something they shouldn't. EVER. Some people will take you seriously. Please don't do that...
Second... you and others should realize by now that our M919 can flash 95% of all software items made for the international i9505. M919 is simply the Tmo version of the 9505, as you should know....the hardware is identical. So many people still think they are different phones just because ours say M919. The only catch is you can never flash another carriers modem...it's that simple.
99% of the ROMs from the international i9505 forums and all other carriers...Verizon, AT&T, Sprint etc, run perfectly on our M919....ya just gotta flash a universal kernel directly after flashing the i9505 ROM....ie, Faux or Ktoonez etc. Aside from people who have to have certain Tmo specific software (WiFI calling, visual VM etc)...I have no idea why people are still using the old and outdated MDL firmware.
To the OP...wait for the ROM and kernel to be released in the international forums and then wait again for Faux or Ktoonez to make the kernel universally compatible with multiple variants of the i9505.
Seems there are still peeps out there that think they are stuck to using only Tmo M919 software. I'm surprised more Tmo users are not using the latest and greatest firmware for the i9505. Smearing, camera lag...you name it, was fixed long ago on the international firmware.
My M919 is FLYING with Wanam's 1.2 MF2 ROM, Faux v6m kernel.
@ Hoggles
Thanks for that informative post.
Regarding the WanamLite ROM you installed, is Call Recording operating properly?
Skvalex from CallRecorder asked me to try this
http://galaxys4root.com/t-mobile-ga...i9505attt-mobilecanadianapp2sdcall-recording/
to see if CallRecorder works. It's version 1.1 but I read it may break 4G LTE.
I see the ROM you installed is 1.2 and just wanted to know what your experience was with either the call recording feature native to that ROM, or if you've perhaps tried CallRecorder, and if 4G LTE is working without issue.
@ luckyduck69
The op was just trying to be helpful.
Everyone is learning, and not just on xda, but in life in general.
Hoggles just didn't want the op or anyone else to Bork their new, expensive S4 and was passionate about that.
As we all know, sometimes things are said that are taken literally, and considering their are millions of xda members, there may have been several that would have flashed something they're not supposed to, and have a brick in their hands.
The above is just my observation. Nothing personal

Updated my earlier post, but you can flash any n9005 rom in this thread
a little bit out of topic but what are the advantages and disadvantages of flashing a rom that is not for our note? are there any risks other than the obvious "you are responsible for what you do to your device" or "warranty is now void" risks?

Advantages are more variety of roms to choose from, the international roms are updated a lot quicker than USA versions(because it was released over there first, I believe latest firmware over there is mj7). Some roms on the N9005 are pre-debloated for you (HAL room is 700mb rom! Omega has same slimness as HAL just got to choose what you want uninstalled/installed thru aroma).
2. Disadvantages, not many really as long as your only flashing the N9005 compatible LTE note 3 and not the incompatible N9000 (octocore exnyos).

Also, some of the features that the carrier offers are sometimes not supported, such as WiFi Calling.

so then i can download any n9005 rom and it will be compatible with n900t? and dirtybudha, how can we know if wifi or other features will work?
Wifi, bluetooth, gps, and nfc used to not work on international roms until the devs made that patch #2 which automagically patches all the above to work. But yea don't think tmobiles wifi calling will work on International roms.

It's a long known issue that WiFi calling won't work with ROMS developed outside of a T-Mobile ROM base. I'm not blessed with enough of an understanding of how it works, but ever since my HTC Vision (G2) I've read about WiFi calling not working on other ported or international ROMs.
Aside from that feature, everything else could technically work. Personally, I like the WiFi calling and prefer to maintain it on my phone's ROM.

im not on t mobile network, im on red pocket and have a t mobile phone... will t mobiles wifi calling still work? if it doesnt, im more than sure there are aftermarket apps that will do the same feature right?
Everything works great! Here's what I got:
Running HAL 9000
Saber Kernel
I did need to add the LTE APN once i booted the rom up.
other than that, this is awesome!
thanks for the info OP!

While promising, no it doesn't work on other networks or carriers.

So dam frustrated. I can't seem to download that patch to get all the radios working. Keep getting a .exe file that's only 300 or so kb. Is the patch posted anywhere else. Stupid false links all over that page. Whoever thinks they can do business by tricking you into pressing the wrong link is a f'ing idiot.

Yeah wifi-calling will never work on international roms. Which is fine because wifi-calling causes more issues than it fixes. The majority of my calls get dropped and it breaks messaging more often than not. PITA.

Do you have to do it from computer, or can it be done with device browser?
