Hi guys,
Since a few days i have a Samsung H1, which runs on LiMo.
So far i didnt find a forum (except for vodafone's own forum) for this phone or its OS.
My previous phone was a Touch Diamond, and i found this forum very very useful. So thats why im asking this question here, because this is the biggest and best forum, as far as i know, when it comes to mobile phones.
Will there be any subforum for LiMo? or the Samsung H1? Because its Linux based, so that means many options/customizing right?
Thanks,
Ingmar
//edit
I found a LiMo forum: http://www.limo-os.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=6
No Sorry, as the admins have stated in the past, this site is for HTC devices only.
dave
Ok thats a pitty... I noticed its almost all HTC over here, but since there is also a subforum for the SE Experia i kind of hoped for a subforum for the H1 aswell.
Thanks

The X1 is actually made by HTC, so it has a HTC bootloader, that can be patched for Hard SPL, SIM unlocks, Sec unlocks, etc.
There is one forum for a non HTC device (one of the smaller forums, I can't recall) that was added in error years ago, and it would be unfair to remove it now.
Dave
Hmm, why doesnt it surprise me
Ok, i hope i will find another forum someday.
Thanks anyway!
you could try howardforums or modaco
both of which have active samsung subforums.
Thanks for the tip!
Did you find any usefull information somewhere already?
Can't seem to find anything that could help in hacking the Samsung H1... would be a great device to have android on...
Nope, i didnt find much usefull info...
vodafone has the appstar competition: http://widget.developer.vodafone.com/appstar
But it seems like it will take time before we can do anything useful with the H1...
I wish i could put android on this phone, that would be GREAT :-D
I would love to help out in creating an android Rom for this phone
but I have NO clue in how to get access to the files on the phone... since it's linux, it just has to be possible to boot another linux distro (android ) once you get full root access to the device
For the people who are interested in this topic. I found a LiMo forum
http://www.limo-os.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=6
Grtz
i was checking out that forum too.
Seems nothing till now
i got H1 as well .
If you get any new please tell me to check it out
many thanks

Hello! I've never messed around with a phone before, but I have a couple of questions I was hoping to get some help with. I currently have an HTC Touch Pro and am seriously considering upgrading to the EVO. I understand that EVO isn't going to be getting Android 2.2 until later in the year. If I root the phone, can I upgrade to whatever the Android version is out? I really like some of the 2.2 features; I've read that it has the potential to speed things up on the phone considerably and that sounds great!
Also, are there any areas where very basic things like roms and rooting are explained? I've looked over some of the rooting tutorials and feel like I can follow them, but I'd like to have some sort of understanding as to what I'm actually doing.
Thanks for the help!
Me too! I'm coming from the pre.
That's a lot to answer in one post.... but here we go!
If you root you can flash a Rom that has 2.2, but its not working 100%, close but a few more things are being worked out. I think I can confidently say that the devs are working hard and should have 2.2 done before HTC gets it to you! There are many roms that drastically improve performance which are 2.1, and they work very well.
As for your second question, that is a bit more lengthy. At the top of this forum is a post with some links in it for guides and tutorials. If you haven't read those you should do so. Use the Google cache links while the wiki is down.
Basically what you are doing when you root your phone, is you are going through a bunch of procedures to allow you the user, to obtain super user permissions over the entire system. That leads to a bunch of new thing you can do with the system: flash roms, custom recoveries, backups, tethering, custom kernels... so much I can't explain it all! Lol
Here is some info on rooting and custom roms, etc.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=701245
There's a lot more in the EVO 4G Android development forum.
You can browse around in there and find ALOT more info there.
But, like was mentioned, 2.2 isn't officially available if you root your phone. YOu can flash a custom ROM of 2.2 but it's not fully functional. I believe the camera doesn't work, 4G is questionable, and I think the mms function is not working either.
Great! Thanks for all the info! I just bought the EVO yesterday and I love it. I'll have to think about rooting as I get familiar with the phone.
Thanks again!
Hello everyone! I'm pretty new with android phones. Until about 4 months ago, I still had a Motorola Razor. I went and bought the LG Optimus M (by Metro PCS) in December, fell in love with androids, and upgraded to the Evo 4G. I love this phone so much!!!
I'm decent with electronics, but I won't mess with my phone too much because it's unknown territory. I rooted my Optimus only to delete bloatware. I won't root my Evo only because I really don't need to (not much bloatware , plus, there's more internal space on this phone). I already can tether and I like Sense, so I personally don't see the need for it (for me, not saying you shouldn't root; again, I'm new to this stuff).
Landing the plane:
What are some fun and interesting things I can do with this phone? What are some cool apps?
BTW, a little off topic, I have the app TV Shows HD. Why did that get taken off of the market?
Thanks guys for dealing with this newbie!
Well unless you root your phone there really isn't much else you can do with it besides download apps and play games. The best apps require root though, so even that has its limitations. The Evo is quite hard to brick, so it would be worth it to root. You can have Sense and have it be even faster with Mikfroyo or some of the other custom roms out there.

Hmm, okay. Well, can you do me a favor? Can you please (if and when you have time) to send me a link to wherever it is I have to go to root my phone along with information about the root, how to root and all of that fun stuff?
Again, I don't know much. I love this phone and where I live I have 4G nearly everywhere I go. I would love to make this phone even cooler!
Here is a link to a sticky in the development section which has links to pretty much everything you need to root your phone. Just read up on it and try to get as much information as possible. After you root it you can load custom roms, kernels and themes to your phone as well as back it up, restore it from a backup and many more goodies. I suggest reading all over this Evo forum here at XDA about rooting. Everything you need to know and everything you need to do it are right here. Read about all the different Roms and what they have and don't have and decide which will be best for you. Get started here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=701245
If 4G is important to you make sure that 4G is working in the Rom before flashing. It is on AOSP Roms now like CM7. You can stick with stock Sprint and still be rooted too if you really like it. Many devs have taken stock Sprint Rom and modified it, making it faster with less bloat and just plain better. My favorite Sense Rom was Mikfroyo, but I am a dedicated CM7 user now.
Thanks! I really appreciate it!

No problem. I'm just glad to help. Good luck & happy flashing.

in one of the subforums.. in evo ...
there is a long ass thread of recommended apps...
I agree man. If you aren't new to rooting, then definitely give it a go on the EVO. Just do your homework and research well before you start, you'll be fine.
The evo has excellent dev support, there are some really fantastic roms to choose from, beauty of rooting ... you're choice never has to be final. There are also some excellent people making excellent themes.. definitely fun to change it up every once in a while.
You can also improve performance, speed, battery life and add new features with root. You will not be disappointed.
Just be sure to at least hit the Thanks button if you use someones work, it's important for these guys to know they're appreciated.
I just rooted for the first time very recently (~2 days) and I found the following posts extremely helpful and, in combination, to provide a fully comprehensive guide on how to root, what to expect, how to avoid doing things wrong, how to backup, how to restore, how to flash ROMs and kernels and other add-ons, et cetera:

Additionally, as others have stated, do read up on the EVO forums here and read up as much as you can on rooting and ROMs and kernels and such. Hope I helped.
Thanks guys! I can't believe their is a forum filed with really cool and helpful people! Thank you all!

Idk if this is still relevant but there WERE several hw versions that required different rooting methods, be careful with that. Maybe they all have a unified rooting method now, I don't pay any attention to that stuff now that I have a custom recovery.

thats all been ironed out. as long as it's an up to date root method, they all work on any hardware or hboot version.
Wow! I'm on other forums for comic books and action figures (yeah, I'm a freaking nerd) and ask a lot of questions and NO ONE responds to me this clearly and this much. This was first thread as well as my first post. This forum is great! Thank you everybody! I will look to root my phone this weekend with a friend of mine who is pretty phone savvy. I will let you guys know how it goes. Again, thank you all so much!

Can anyone Developer create the forum for Samsung Jét GT-S8000/3 in here xda..?
Samsung Jét looks same like Samsung Omnia II GT-I8000...
But Samsung S8000/3 is TouchWiz mobile (CPU 800MHz) and Samsung Jét can Run Android with JetQi Boot loader... (JetDroid)
it's nice if here xda-developers forum are forum for GT-S8000/3 ...
My Android Binaries for Samsung Jét:
code.google .com/p/android-for-jet/
and videos of my Android binaries is in youtube: CarlosJacksonHD
Heya!
Since i had a samsung JET(my touch screen is screwed due to some "pressure" with another phone inside my pocket), i was reading abt jetdroid, but never came across any conclusion about it. is that already possible, i mean, would that worth fixing it? speed, functions and everything? By your video, i noticed that it already works, but worth it?
Hello, I'm sorry for bringing up this dead topic. I would like to know if there has been a progress in this? Thanks!
Still waiting for Jetdroid...
I like my S8000 but the Samsung custom OS on it is too limited and they stopped support (updates) very early.

@Exnor I also like my S8000 very much, but I don't think so many people are interested in Jetdroid project.
Actually, it is very well described and easy to find in internet (although, unfortunatelly not on the XDA site). Did you install CM7 on your S8000?

Hi,
I've tried a early port and ride along with it since i've stop using my s8000 :/ in favor of my Galaxy nexus...
Its really sad to see such a good phone not getting more support ... the Jét still have a more decent hardware than the low end Android phones.
Thanks for the tip
Old good S8000 Jet
@Exnor I know what you mean, I have also been using my Galaxy S i9000 last two years But I want to revive it as my second phone again now.
Flashing the S8000 and upgrading it with Android OS is a real adventure with running Ubuntu in virtual box etc.
One of the guys who is still actively working on the Jetdroid project attends to build in the close future the ROM which uses linaro! It would give to old, good S8000 a real Jet speed.
There is also a CM10.2 ROM uploaded less than 2 weeks ago, look here:

Thanks mate i'm going to give it a look.
This is not a place to post forum requests.
Closed.
most threads here are from not-10inch... including the sticks. they just list "ROMS" and all of them are for 8, 7in.
Where can i find the latest info for 10? or what is the best way you guys use to filter for the 10in only?
it is a completely different beast with its intel cpu ...feel those models should not even be bundled together.

You won't find much for the 10 in yet...unless I've been digging in the wrong places....
The only place I have found anything of use for the 10 is in the dev forums. You will find a great root ad custom recovery there, I got the cwm(unofficial)recovery and root installed on first attempt, but it is a dev forum, so don't expect to get a lot of answers there. I recommend DutchDanny's custom recovery, and you'll find what you need for root in the same thread.
I have found nothing interesting as far as ROMs go, though.
Good luck, and let me know if you find anything stable and useful for our tablets!
I imagine we will have our own forum once there is more out there that is specific to our device.
Have this changed recently? To be honest I'm using the 10in just for some website testing since it's the only Samsung browser i have... I still use the touchpad for having fun with Android. Can't beat that community.
but the x86 CPU on the 10in is always making me think i can do interesting stuff with this tablet... Ubuntu? FirefoxOS? Dedicated scummvm machine?

I agree that there is a lot of mixing and mismatching going on here. The only dedicated thread to the P5210 is the development thread and that isn't very interesting at all. Under this main thread of troubleshooting there should be three sub categories; 7", 8", and 10". This would segregate the tablets and keep like info together instead of sprue about as it is right now. But it is all good. Just have to, like you said, filter a wee bit.
