I've gone through the same.
I tried Smart Keyboard Pro, Swiftkey 3 Tablet, Thumb Keyboard 4, and Go Keyboard and the only one that worked for me as far as suggestions and auto-complete is concerned is Go Keyboard. (My favorite mode is landscape though)
If you use Ink Note or any other simple text app all of them work like a charm, but if you use Kingsoft Office as I do, then it's a different ball game.
I do a lot of MS Office word docs, most of them in Spanish, and the word suggestion and auto-complete are a plus to me, so I tried all of those keyboard apps with every possible setting, layout, you name it, but the only one that worked for me was Go keyboard, now, there's an issue, for it to suggest words and auto-complete you have to tap on the "T9" button. (make sure the little green dot on the upper left corner of the button is on) by doing this you lose (idk why) the capitalization, so you have to press the shift key for every new paragraph and so on, but I guess that's the lesser of two evils.
A friend told me some of them work (or may work) with Office Suite Pro, but I definitely like Kingsoft Office better, so I had to stick with Go Keyboard.
What app are you using for your typing?
I hope I could have been of help, if not, maybe some power user will be able to help us both.
Good luck.

I am using Swiftkey X 3 now, fas typing and almost without errors.

Yep times 2. But im using swype. This is my best keyboard and better than slide it.
I use smart keyboard - far better than stock or even the HTC IME mod
Can you tell me in what way a keyboard is better than another?

Well the stock one annoyed me because the word suggestions appear over the top of what your writing, so you can't read what you've just typed.
smart keyboard has a section above the keyboard where the suggestions appear, so they don't get in the way.
also i found i hit the full stop button too often on the stock one as the space bar was too small.
smart keyboard has a free version so try that. but it doesn't have the word correction - that's only in the pro verison
switched to swype a few days ago, don't know if i'll be able to use traditional keyboards again lol
the word prediction is just amazing and much faster than typing on the standard htc sense keyboard
Swype without a doubt.
100% recommended.

Keyboard as portrait mode when in landscape use?
Hi guys! With stock keyboard on Desire, it is pretty good to use it in portrait mode, however, when you try in landscape mode -to take benefits of the larger buttons as well- you must forgo the rest on the page/app or whatever on the screen, because the screen is then full with keyboard and text input box only.
Is there any keyboard which is not covering the whole screen (this may be possible with an input field consisting of one, scrollable line) ??
i find swype incredibly slow, there is no way that one finger sliding to each key is faster than tapping with two thumbs in opinion.
Such choices are relative by definition.
IME, HTC_IME mod keyboard is the best all round followed by Swype in some regards. However, Swype disabling multi-touch in the browser kills its appeal on my end unless I'm using an app where I don't require the zoom feature.
And yep, Swype-ing words is faster, much faster, as odd as that might sound... simply because you don't have to hit the actual keys to bring the whole word up in prediction, and even when you hit a few wrong keys in a word, very surprisingly, Swype 99/100 auto-corrects the word or at least offers the correct word to choose -- far more forgiving than the other traditional keyboards. The detection, prediction and auto-correction are what make the product work. I basically scribble everything in if using it, and do it very fast with little error, less than a traditional on-screen keyboard if trying that much speed anyway (sure, there is an initial learning curve like with anything new. It 'aint a 2 day affair).

This is one major beef of mine on this phone too. It makes the landscape mode quite redundant in many usages.
I don't know of any such app yet.

I can't see why people like Swype over slide it.
I have installed Swype 3 times and each time go back to slide it. Swype although in beta just isn't as good.
For example when you want to do a double letter you need to do a stupid little circle over the letter. WHY? Also its not as accurate. Also I have consistently had a 40% fail rate with words.
Slide it is accurate, I hardly get any mistakes, it knows when you want or need a double letter. I can almost write as quick as if I were typing on a full size keyboard.
The only advantage Swype has is it looks good. I'm amazed people rate it over the far superior slide it.

Gingerbread-style keyboard that doesn't get cut off

I downloaded the free Gingerbread keyboard from market, but found that in landscape it was cut-off by the Archos buttons. I then downloaded Steven Lin's latest source code from github, compiled it, and noticed that it doesn't have the landscape cut-off. I don't know why the version in Market is cut-off.
I then made some tweaks for myself. Two of these you can ignore: it comes with a nighmode version in red, but that's optional, and you can force the suggestions to be on even when the app requests them to be off (e.g., in search boxes), but that, too, is option. One tweak may annoy, and you can't turn it off: I added all the rest of the punctuation to what you get when you tap and hold the period and the comma. I can't do with only some punctuation on the main keyboard. Finally, I removed all language support other than English, which greatly slims down the apk.
So, all in all it's something I made for myself. But if you want it, it's here.
Thanks! It works great. The available additional punctuation is much appreciated; I always found the additional keystrokes needed annoying when using the terminal or ssh.

Yeah, the lack of a full ASCII keyboard has always been a pet peeve of mine about portable devices. I suppose not everyone sends emails that require all ASCII symbols.
It doesn't work on A70. The keyboard doesn't open.

1. Do you have "Gingerbread ARP keyboard" checked in the Keyboard settings?
2. What happens when you long tap on an input field, and then choose "Select input method"? Is it listed among the options?
By the way, I just found that the current version of the Gingerbread Keyboard in the Market works fine with landscape on my A43.

Of course, I activated the Gingerbread ARP keyboard in the settings. I chose it in the "select input method" menu.
When I tap on a textfield, the keyboard doesn't open, but at the bottom of the screen, there are ca. 2 rows of pixels, where I can see a little bit of the keyboard.
What can I do?
Interesting. There is no blank space, either?
What happens in landscape?
Does this happen with the 2.3 keyboard in the Market?

There is no white/blank space and the problem is in the landscape mode.
It happens everytime when I try to use this keyboard.
It's like the keyboard would be invisible, only the 2 rows of pixel on the bottom.
Try MultiLing Keyboard instead

Try the MultiLing Keyboard, which I've found works fine. Unfortunately the sources are not available.

Can you email me a screenshot? (My favorite way is to use adb: adb fbgrab /storage/gb.png and then adb pull /storage/gb.png.)
Is it fine in portrait?
Did you change your DPI setting? (I don't think it would make a difference, but you never know.)
The keyboard works great with my Archos 43. Thanks! I think I'll be using it from now on.

[Q] Samsung Keyboard - No Auto Complete?

I cannot figure out how to turn on auto complete for the Samsung Keyboard. I have looked through the options and I dont see a setting for it.
I like the keyboard because it has the number keys along the top and the one handed mode is nice.
Are there any other keyboards that will display the numbers at the top? I cannot find a way to do it with SwiftKey, Swipe, or the stock JB keyboard. I realize the one handed mode would be more difficult to find in a 3rd party keyboard and is not as important.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda premium
Predictive text is on
Continous input is checked but is option is greyed out so it cannot be changed. The continous input does not seem to work... It is supposed to be like swipe, right?
What about auto correct? words dont correct themselves for me, i downloaded the stock jb keyboard from the market and that auto corrects words but it looks huge on the note 2
Yeah, when I said Auto Complete, I guess i meant Auto Correct. I get word suggestions at the top of the keyboard but I have to click them to get them to be used. They don't just automatically get inserted when I hit the space bar and it wont automatically correct stuff like "thats" to "that's"
I looked through the internation GN2 forumns and found this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1937440
looks like its just missing as a feature. Call it a bug whatever, sux...
Any suggestions for keyboards that allow you to have the number buttons along the top as well as having auto complete/correct?

mine didn't do this with the galaxy s3 either... predictive text sucks I don't want to have to press the word I want every time. Swift keyboard was awesome on the s3 but like you I want to keep the numbers at the top
Yes this has really bothered me! I can't believe it won't auto correct...I went back to swiftkey 3 but had to come back to the default samsung keyboard because having those numbers at the top is just too good to let go...I hope this gets fixed in an update :/

Choosing Default Keyboard

Hi All,
Just switched from S4 to the ONE. Everything is great except for one thing that I've noticed. I don't mind the stock keyboard, but I prefer Swype a lot better. I installed Swype and chose it as default keyboard, however, upon reboot, the keyboard switched back to the stock keyboard. Anyone else experiencing this? If so, how did you fix this issue and choose the default keyboard as there is no option under settings and Language and Keyboards
I also had this problem and it looks like Swype is aware of it and are looking for the fix...
In the mean time.. After the reboot, open any method of typing ( I use the txt message window to any recent contact ) and once the keyboard is displayed, pull down the bar from the top (that has the time stamp). You will see a Choose input method box. Click on it and Select the Swype - Swype + Dragon option and you are back up and running. Happy swyping.
I switched to the Google keyboard because this was annoying me about Swype. I think the Google keyboard is actually better at swiping in general... Except punctuation. I also use "*" often and it's buried on the Swype keyboard.

First select the keyboard of your choice, disable fast boot (settings, power) reboot, check that you still have the desired keyboard, enable fast boot. It should persist after that.

Samsung keyboard dictionary

Does anyone know if we can access the note 8's keyboard dictionary to edit it and if so how do I get to it?
I don't see anything in settings like most keyboards.
life is better with r00t
I might be missing something too... but my biggest irritation with this tablet is its compulsive auto correct. I often find it'll change my word... So I go back and edit it, press space for the next word and damn it! It's been auto corrected again! F*ck you! Leave my spelling alone!
Anyone know how to adress this issue?

Samsung keyboard settings: disable Predictive Input
Hmm... but that disables predictive input entirely.
What I'm looking for, is that suggested words come up, but they aren't auto-corrected.... in other words, it leaves my spelling as is unless I actually select the suggested word.

Can't find such option in Samsung keyboard. If you are willing to switch, Swype has separate options for suggestions and autocorrect.

Swype has it's own handwriting recognition, never tested so don't know if it's better or not.
It is also possible to keep Swype as normal keyboard and Samsung handwriting for pen input - in one of the threads here someone suggested an app which automatically switches default keyboard upon pen removal, alas don't remember it's name.
Sent from my GT-N5100 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I'm trying out Swype right now. Swyping is fast and accurate, and the Dragon dictation is nice, but the handwriting recognition sucks (poor recognition and predictability), IMHO. I don't find it much of a hassle to switch between it the Samsung and Google keyboards (due a glitch in the return key not working) by pulling down the the notification bar and chasing input method.

found it:
[App][Root] SPenBoardSwitcher 2 - Changing keyboards depending on the S-Pen Position:
Have you ever wanted to use a certain keyboard for normal use, and a different one for the S-Pen! This will ease your life.
- When the service is running, the pen's position is detected and the keyboard is switched to the learned or pre-defined one (depending on the mode).
- The service runs quietly and efficiently. No popups, no interventions.
- Support for starting on boot
- Service supports two modes:
Learning mode: Tries to detect the keyboard you use in each pen position, stores the detected keyboard, and uses it the next time you take your pen off, or return it to its place.
Fixed Mode: The service only uses the keyboards you chose inside the application, even if you use another keyboard for a short time, when the pen's position, the keyboard is reverted back to the ones you chose.
app in post #2, there's also donate version in Play Store
anyone able to edit user dictionary ... or import text file ... right now its learning from facebook and gmail but cannot import it by whatsapp ... software like User Dictionary manager show blank dictionary ... samsung note 2 n7100
