Hey guys
I'm wondering if someone can shed some light on an issue i'm experiencing. I've got:
LT28i
Unlocked BL
Rooted
2.3.7
6.0.F.0.111
Anyway, when I take pictures with anything other than the stock camera app (namely HDR+ and Panorama Beta) I have to use the Media Rescan app in order for those pictures to show up in gallery. If i don't, they never show. Even if i take a pic with the stock camera after - the new stock camera pic will show, but the HDR/Panoramas won't. I'm assuming it's a permission issue but I don't know how to fix it.
Thanks in advance
Yeah I've noticed this bug when you take pics using the quick launch camera key. Sometimes they do show up in the gallery though. For me, the pictures do eventually show up though

I have had the same experiences. With all types of media files. I'm no expert, so take my thoughts with a grain of salt. I don't think that android scans for your media as readily or as often as we think it would/should. Which is why using your media scanner app makes them appear. I had this issue when I put music on my Ion. My music didn't show up until I rebooted my phone. Since then I have been using the media scanning function in the dev tools.

This is what I noticed about the Arc S stock camera app.
After taking a picture, I would usually go back to see if the picture is well taken. There is a direct shortcut from the camera app itself, but accessing the gallery through that "shortcut" is very slow and laggy.
Wanted to find out if this is a flaw in the arc S phone, even though the processor is supposed to be fast? Is this a common issue among the Arc S users?
I do not use any task killers, it is non-rooted, and I find the lagginess only happens whenever I use the (stock) gallery through the (stock) camera. For the gallery from the homescreen, I use QuickPic. Compare to the stock gallery, it is much faster.
I usually do a reboot after 3-4 days, or whenever I find it lags. But the rebooting doesn't seem to speed up the loading time of the gallery. Any clues on speeding up the loading time? Or if there is another trick on accessing the gallery quickly from the camera?

you can set the camera to open the images in Quickpic. if it doesn't give the option when you click then goto the gallery application is settings and clear it's defaults.
this is what i do.
Quickpic is awesome!
Pvy.
Hey thanks mate!
This method works. Couldn't believe why I didn't think of that! Lol..

Did anyone notice that the pictures you take when using instagram are much lower in resolution than the ones you take when using the stock camera?
Unticking the "advanced camera" option under instagram settings doesn't do much since you're gonna have to crop your picture again.
Any thoughts?

Yeah that's instagram for you, the pictures are resized to crap.
or taken in a lower resolution using their 'advanced' camera in part of the app.
Just the way it is.
That's just how Instagram works.

Images are always cropped down within instagram. Even the images you took with the stock camera you upload there. Just take a look into the instagram photo folder on your internal memory. They're all cropped down BADLY.
Thats just how Instagram works. Small images means less traffic and faster loading times. Thats why you cant watch images in full screen within the app either.
Thanks guys, I thought so.. this is getting annoying!

Damn, I wondered how they got the pictures to upload so fast!

Sorry for thread-jacking but is there any way to take pictures with Instagram and not have them uploaded? Many times I just want to make tests and it sucks that I cannot simply choose to save the files to a folder instead of uploading the pictures.
doe anyone else notice that instagram links do not open the instagram app on the HOX? For instance a tweet of the form instagr.am../asdhjd/ would give the option of opening with the instagram app on my SII but on my HOX it just gives the browser option..

Yes, just don't click upload... The pics will be saved in the instagram folder on SD

It does save the photo but it doesn´t apply the instagram effect. It also won´t let me choose the default folder or to set "never upload" as default.

Works for me. Take the photo, apply the effect(s), hit the arrows in the top right to take you to the tagging/upload screen, then just back out again. The processed photo (with effects) will be in the Instagram folder, the unprocessed photo will be in the normal camera photo folder.
Thanks. I didn´t realize it copied the photo with the effect to a different folder. All other photo apps I use automatically copy the photos to the android default photo folder.

Yea, it will copy the untouched photo to the normal photo folder, and the effect photo to the Instagram folder.

I much prefer to take pictures with the stock camera then use instagram to crop and upload, but thats just me.
yeah but wouldn't it be hard to judge how the photos should be taken because only the middle half of the photo will be cropped and uploaded onto instagram.
I love the new photo sphere effect that comes with 4.2.
However, when you look at it on your pc it is just a panoramic jpg.
I have heard that you can upload it to Google+ and see the effect there.
Is there any offline PC application that you can use to view the panning effect?
You can get the 3d effect on Google + using Chrome browser on your cell phone.

Thanks for replying.
The problem isn't seeing it on my phone.
I can see it just fine in the Gallery.
The question is how do I see the same effect after I have taken it off my phone and onto my PC?
AFAIK you can only see it in the gallery, google plus, and Google maps. but i haven't really looked into any other method of viewing them.
I am wanting to replace the built-in camera app with CameraZoomFX due to the very poor auto+ processing on the default camera app on my ZL.
I am rooted on the 4.1.2 stock rom, and haven't found a way to get the hardware camera button to open any other app besides the stock camera app. I tried using Default App Manager to set the default camera app, but that didn't help either.
Is this possible?

What FW are you on ?
On latest 4.2.2 the superior auto is pretty reasonable.
In low light I still use manual scene
I'm still on 10.1.1.A.1.253 and rooted so can't easily update at this point to 4.1.2 without re-setting up my phone the way I like it. (Titanium Backup only does some).
Any news about changing hardware camera button app?

bump!?
Realy nothing about this here?

I've already somewhat given up on tweaking my ZL the way I used to on my old Windows Mobile phone (AE Button Plus FTW).
However, I sadly will be keeping an eye on Pressy for my purpose, though I would argue whether starting a camera app from the lockscreen (with that) is safe, if possible at all.
The default setting on the ZL bypasses the lockscreen security setting, but only gives anyone access to the camera, and not the shots made with it (as that starts the Album, which requires a proper login). I think this is a feature by design of the camera app, and unless third-party camera apps have such a feature, restricting access to anything but snapping shots, it will not be secure.
Well in 10.1 camerabutton wprks so it should not be verry hard to change camer app?

Greetings, Xperia M, Build 15.1.C.2.8, Half-rooted (unable to do the full root, I don't know why so I can't do the RW thing)
Like most of you have probably noticed, the stock camera firmware has a bluish tint problem. The camera works great in the daytime, really good actually. But doing some camera app testing in a darkened atmosphere I took some pics in my bedroom with the flash, and the pics look really BLUE. My walls aren't blue, they are yellow haha. After testing with other android camera apps such as ProCapture, the pics look as they should (no blue walls). So it's obvious that it is the stock sony camera firmware that is at fault since other camera apps make the pics look normal.
So saying this I went ahead and froze (disabled) the stock camera app so I could launch ProCapture with the hardware shutter button. But now I have no video recording app ugh. So two-fold question please:
1) Is there a way to make our hardware shutter button open up a different camera app such as ProCapture? If so, how please? (Like mentioned above I was only able to half-root it, the full root instructions just haven't worked for me no matter how many times I tried)
2) If not, and I do have to disable the stock camera app so I can launch ProCapture with the hardware button, can you recommend me what video recording app I can install that can takeover just video recording duties? I think it would need to be for video recording only otherwise I may run into problems with the hardware shutter button again. It has been remarkably hard to find a video recording app on the app store! I have no idea why this is.
Thanks much for your help. BTW, I like the phone. For the price, I think it's really good. And more importantly, the size and shape fits me perfectly :fingers-crossed:
For your 1st question.... I'm not really sure on the x m but when I was still using an mtk phone I was able to change the camera button to open any app I want in android.policy.jar or was it framework.jar (cant recall).. Cant remember which smali it was but I stumbled on it via search for text using notepad++ ... I searched for com.android.gallery in our Xperia case you should search for semc.android.camera (not sure if thats the correct package name for the stock camera app) and change it with the package name of the camera app or whatevar app you want the camera button to launch

try this lg camera : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1677645
Thanks for the replies. As far as LGCamera goes, it seems to not have been updated in almost two years so I left that one alone. Did find an app called "A Better Camera" which also has video recording in it. So I disabled the stock camera and have just been using A Better Camera and it also launches from the hardware button. Better pics too in the dark with the flash. At least my yellow walls aren't blue
Edit: Okay, I have found a way to be able to launch a third party camera from the hardware button WITHOUT freezing (totally disabling) the stock camera app. This then will allow you to use a third-party camera app such as ProCapture etc (that don't have a built in video recorder), allow you to switch between the third-party app and the stock video recorder, but then also launch the third-party app using the hardware shutter button. In other words, the best of all solutions.
You need to at least half-root the Xperia-M (many threads found here how to do that) then get the AutoStarts app from the play store: (not allowed to post links yet). Just search AutoStarts from Michael Elsdörfer
Once you start AutoStarts, scroll down and find "Camera Button Pressed". Select Disable for all the cameras EXCEPT the one you want to use the hardware button for. You're done now. All the camera apps that you selected disable for will still work when using their icons, the one you didn't disable will be the one that starts with the hardware shutter button.
Note: I also tried the app "Default App Manager Pro" and set ProCapture as the default camera. But that didn't do anything, no effect on the hardware shutter button (still opened the stock camera). So far the AutoStarts method is the only one that has worked for me.
