Guys--
Live in northwest suburbs outside chicago and have LTE signal out of nowhere. Specifically Bartlett,IL next to elgin/st charles/carol stream. I cant run a solid speedtest since it locks up when it checks for upload speed but got 6meg down with less than 70 millisecond times. It was going in and out im assuming from testing but it seems more consistent as i type this. Will upload speedtest results if it stops locking up.

There are several towers in Rockford that are scheduled for NV upgrades in August, so you might see something within a month or so.

When we were without service last month for a day Sprint told me they were adding lte to all the towers. It hard to believe anyone because nobody knows when there gonna flip the switch for sure. Sprint could of handled this better by not telling people next month or in August because the Sprint reps are consistently telling people anything to shut them up, they could have been like we're not sure and leave it at that. I wouldn't mind waiting if 3g was really 3g like on T-Mobile or [email protected] but it's really slow and unusable. I would never in my life consider there service worthy of a smartphone . I can't even stream a two minute video on YouTube it's ridiculous. This is the main reason people are so impatient ,I'm new to Sprint only a month in but i can't believe people been with these slow speeds so long, i would of jump ship along time ago. No lte by october then im off to Verizon or [email protected] where i can use my phone in a productive manor.

Actually, Samsung (the OEM) is handling the actual NV upgrades, and they've fallen a bit behind schedule from where they should be. I'm pretty sure those towers were probably originally scheduled for July, but got bumped back like a lot of them have. Sprint's really just waiting on Samsung and the backhaul providers to get everything going before they can finish it up and green light the tower.

Part of the reason why you're getting such slow 3g speeds is BECAUSE of the lack of 4g. When every single smart phone user is only using 3g, (and has unlimited data) is slows the network for everyone. Once lte is up and running we'll see speed increases in 3g as well. Just wait it out. Sprint is hands down the best deal in wireless, has great customer service, awesome phones, and unlimited data. The speed will come.

You and me both. I spoke with someone with sprint and they said some towers were still being updated and that everything should be updated by July 20th but who knows. I have picked up the 4g signal a few times and the fastest down speeds I have gotten are 500kbps.
Sprint service blows...folks are having the same issue here in the 260, but atleast your bootloader is unlocked.
Yea sprint was supposed to have kc done and launched the other day. Apparently they only turned on a few towers around the city slowly and its slowly allowing more users onto the tower over time. Possibly to help prevent an overload of some sort.

False. Sprints lte markets have been launched, but the anticipated launch was met with 40% of the towers active. This means that as time goes on, the remaining 60% of the towers will turn on in due time.

I bought a gn2 unlocked off craigslist for $450.00 cash.
Purchased a solavei wireless sim card.
60 bucks a month no throttle after any amount of data used.
Great coverage averaged 14 mbps down. Hmm with speeds like these hard to see how sprint stays with these guys.
For the first time in years I have been thinking of bouncing. From sprint to another Carrier . The blazing data speeds have me mezmerized. Solavei rides on tmobiles network. But at that price it may be worth a switch.
Bought the 2nd gn2 for a work phone. Gonna wait and see if sprint builds out the lte network in my area. But it's sad when I go back to my sprint gn2 and speeds won't pay 512 kbps on average.

HSUPA+ compared to EVDO lol. If HDUPA+ on tmobile was always 14-15mbs download then they would have no need to roll out LTE. Thing is HSUPA+ cant maintain that speed.

HSPA+ ? Trust me even still in the dfw areas it's good averages 6 to 15Mbps. They don't need to roll out lte but normal consumers don't understand differences between 4g technology. And t mobile is truly using 3g but when pushed to its ultimate limits it hits 4g like speeds. But they don't people that obviously.but that's why gsm is so much better than cdma and other stuff too lol

Is Tmobile still "unlimited" - 5-10GBs then throttled to hell or is it like Sprint's unlimited?
I have tmobile and one of their major slogans sort of is "the only truly unlimited data plan". Ive used like 30 gigs of data the month I have owned my note 2 and have never been throttled. Usually get around 27mb 19 down. I notice no change in speed.

No they have a plan that's 5 and 10Gb with hotspot that's throttled but if you get the unlimited 4g plan it's cheaper and better setting how we can all get hotspot for free.

If Sprint were to release EvDo RevB or even RevC, it'd pull speeds of up to 30mbps, too. Problem is, lte becoming the new standard, it'll evolve the fastest and its cost efficient for Sprint in the long run (also cost efficient for any carrier.) This is why everyone's going to lte.

GSM certainly has its advantages, that's why I was with T-mobile previously. The HSPA is getting pretty fast at it's peak, but there are so many times when you don't get those numbers if you are in a heavily used area.
Having said that, I switched to Sprint because they are implementing the next wave of GSM (READ: LTE-A) before T-mobile will be finished with their GSM network (Read: HSPA+42)

I finally got a response from T-Mobile saying that oh well it looks like there isn't enough bandwidth in your area and there's nothing you can do. Which is ironic considering the slew of ads they have bashing AT&Ts bandwidth and bragging how great they are (BS). See attached for the wonderful LTE speeds I get. And it's all the time as you can see, not based on time and the network being clogged up. I work in midtown Manhattan where between 10AM and 6PM the network is barely useable to which they said "well a lot of people are probably on it".

Is Brooklyn even one of the officially supported areas? Or is LTE on but not officially?
Even since they started rolling out LTE in my area my 4g has gone to crap. I get mostly the same speed as the OP now when I used to get 8mbps prior to LTE roll out. It happened at home and now its happening at my work. I really hate it cause inside my work I dont get LTE and just get 4g. And at home I get LTE a block a way but no LTE where my house is so I'm stuck with the new slower 4g.
Man. Those speeds you posted were faster than I usually used to get with Sprint. In the Chicago area, my last three T-Mobile tests are:
5644 kbps / 1590 kbps
7183 kbps / 1074 kbps
8036 kbps / 6006 kbps (LTE in moving train)
14983 kbps / 12024 kbps (LTE stable)
Not bad.

AT&T seems more consistant everywhere I go, TMO, there's either drop to edte, no service, or killler speeds. I have not hate to either carriers, nor a fanboi of any of them nor any device.
Long story on why I have both, basically had to do with credits owned me on TMO and sales of older devices I had right out.

I did a test in Brooklyn yesterday and I got 24mbs download and 8 upload on LTE.
Got kicked out yesterday. Sprint saw all my Roaming (PRL 1) and it also helped me the fact that there are a lot of coverage issues in the El Paso area because they are ¨upgrading¨ their antennas. In order for Sprint to waive the ETF their service has to be at less than 93% for 3 consecutive months in your area. In El Paso it is right now at 80 and it will be like that until october (3 months).
I have one rooted LGOG running Lifeless. Its brand new, I've only had it for a month (Sprint replaced my old one because my computer couldn't recognize it) and also have two Galaxy Nexus (one rooted running CM and the other stock).
If anyone's interested in any of those devices let me know. They all have clean ESN's.

Got kicked out yesterday. Sprint saw all my Roaming (PRL 1) and it also helped me the fact that there are a lot of coverage issues in the El Paso area because they are ¨upgrading¨ their antennas. They told me about the coverage. To load custom PRL's I followed the guide that's posted in the Q&a forum... Im already going to bed but if you dont find it let me know tomorrow and I'll link u up... Or you can buy my LGOG which already has the custom PRL lol... On the gnex was super easy with the lgog is kinda tricky!

Interesting. I roam constantly and am in a major metropolitan area (smack between NYC and Philly) but they've always tried to blame it on hardware. To that end, I've done my best to ramp up my unlimited data usage to try to make it an issue, but they don't seem to care how much of that coveted Unlimited 3G I suck up.
This month I am sitting at 40 gigs so far with a week to go. 40 Gigs of 3G downloads. It has not been easy....
ive got one with a cracked back and a bad esn ill sell cheap haha

LMAO! I am fairly certain that to get to 40 gb of download over 3g you would need to be awake 22 hours a day! That's the best thing I have ever heard! We should take up a collection on XDA to buy you a case of energy drinks to see if you can break 100 gb!

LMAO! I've used it as a hot spot on and off and was sure to download some massive 4 or 5 gig torrent every night only to turn around and delete it. I truly felt like I was sticking it to 'em. Oh, I also borrowed my gf's phone to join in on the torrenting. Her's helped pick up a little of the slack (6 or 7) I'm sure.
Keep doing it. They'll notice. Their policy says that if a subscriber is excesively roaming for 3+ months they will send a stop letter and will afterwards cancel the service...

The bulk of my downloading/data is done on their actual 3G network. I roam for sure, everyday, but when data roaming I am picking up what seems like a 1x signal. Data speeds of maybe 10-15 kbs a second. I almost give up trying to do anything with the phone during those periods....except maybe fire a game up.
Sprint deserves to take it up the A**! I take full advantage of my hot spot...

I would if it wasn't such a massive downgrade from my cable connection at home.
Sprint 3G = 1 MBs Optimum Online = 45-50 MBs
Until I see it on a day to day basis with my own eyes I am gonna call bullsh*t on this Sprint 4G LTE network they advertise and some of you seem to be able to enjoy. Bullsh*t on Sprint.
I am sticking it to Sprint. I am averaging 6GB/day (roaming data)

WoW! Must be nice! WiFi in my area gives me 1-2 MBs if I'm lucky! 3G averages 50 KBs...4Gs a little better but not by much and 4Gs a hit and miss where I live. I use WiFi at my girls house but I've got none at home so I just tether my Optimus G to my 7 and alternate the 2 on a charger. Its enough for simple tasks like Google+ and email.
