Question of look of phone - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Hey guys my dad surprised me today by buying a samsung galaxy s3. i have one concern and thats the phone doesnt say tmobile on the back nor samsung galaxy s3 on the back but just Samsung in silver letters behind it. i checked the model and it says in settings SGH-T999. is this still the real tmobile ssg3?
kinda looks like
http://www.tapscape.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/SAMSUNG-GALAXY-S3-4.jpg

Did you get it with a box?

No my dad ought it from a friend its brand new it has the sticker on it and what not, but it came with no box. got the charger and the phone.

Do you have the T-mo bloat?

His friend probably bought the gsm version if its not branded. This version is actually a little different because it has a quad core processor. The american version has a dual core processor but 2 gb of ram. You say the model number says t999 though and if that is the case then it is the tmobile version of the gs3. This model number is that of a tmobile branded phone. Maybe you just got one without branding. It is indeed real

yes i have like tmobile my account and name is and tmoible tv and hotspot

that seems odd well that it doesn't say T-Mobile in the back and then has T999 on the phone

Last check would be to check ram. If you have 1.62 gb available, then it's probably T-mo....maybe just a separately bought back cover.
Or if you have root, check your build.prop

How many sim card slots does it have? Check the version of software. Also check the app store and make sure it's not in Chinese... Lol if not you're all good.

Yeah you're good. But if you do happen to brick your phone by flashing a T-Mobile ROM when it turns out that your phone is a different variant, then it's not my fault.

okay thanks guys. last question and that is when u get a message or notifi from like whats app does ur notification LED blink or stay on?

It blinks. When it's charging or fully charged it stays on.

You even have what I think is the most recent baseband, LG1 rather than LEM!

yes. At&t and rogers use all the same wireless frequencies (afaik) so as long as you unlock, you'll be good. I've had issues before though with GPS on phones from not my carrier. My old Milestone kept trying to reach telus servers for gps info. However, I was able to mitigate that by changing some files in the root folders. However I don't think that will be an issue with this phone - I'm currently using an at&t rom on my rogers phone and everything is super.
For me sometimes the onscreen keyboard doesn't show up when I need to type up something but it occurs to me when I slide open the actual physical keyboard and close it

[Q] Updating to Jellybean

I have the videotron version of the Samsung galaxy S3, so im guessing its the SGH-T999V or SGH-T999. I am very nooby and I would like to update my phone to JellyBean. I dont really like ICS that much. Some people tell me that videotron is going to update soon, when they do how would I update my phone? How do I do this? Also what do I have to do to get CyanogenMod10 on my phone?
Thanks
First make sure what kind of model is your phone.
Go to setting , scroll all the way down to about phone and check model number.
If you use different one then you will brick (break) your phone forever.

Videotron is SGH-T999V. I have one on the Rogers network currently

Looking to buy i927r

Does anyone know of a good place to buy this phone unlocked? I'd heard people talking about newegg before, but they seem to have the at&t version and i'd rather do without the little carrier tattoo under the earpiece.
I did on negrielectronics.com
they rock.
Fast international shipping, very efficient customer service, good price.
The bad side is that they are not largely stocked with captivate glide. I had to check their site twice a day for 2 months before i could order one. If you found one, i would suggest you not to hesitate.
Edit: I saw mostly AT&T devices. Rogers ones were mostly refurbished but you can find brand new ones as well. Just be aware that their stock is limited.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16875176361 clearly shows a Glide without AT&T branding. The box in the pic even says "Galaxy S Glide" which is the Rogers name for the phone. You could email Newegg and ask.
Any particular reason you want the Rogers version? The radios are identical.
Maybe because he wants a few features the att version removes

The rogers one can toggle data without root or custom roms, and it has no carrier branding. It also has no carrier bloatware.

Hi
I'm probably picking up a T889 tonight from Kijiji. It was bought through Wind apparently.
Does Wind still lock their phones, or can I just pop in my Mobilicity sim card?
If it is locked, what's the best way to get it unlocked? Anyone have good result with a particular service, or homebrew method?
Wind does still lock their phones I would suggest if it's on 4.1.1 then use the free way to unlock it but if it's on 4.1.2 the use cellunlockers.net

Hi guys, you can unlock you N7105 via the Samsung hidden menu. [Also works with N7100 and some Galaxy S3 (SIII) variants - NOT ALL]
=======================================
Before doing the instructions below, please double check your phone that it is actually LOCKED by inserting a sim card from a different carrier/provider...
Quote:
Unlock your N7105:
Note: your phone must be running at least Jelly Bean 4.1 otherwise some of the menu choices are not present
Just dial the following keys *#197328640#
Main Menu > [1] UMTS > [1] Debug Screen > [8] Phone Control > [6] Network Lock > Options [3]Perso SHA256 OFF > (after choosing this option, wait about 30 seconds, then go back one step by pressing the Menu button then select Back, now you are in [6] Network Lock then choose [4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ ..... wait for a minute then reboot your phone... enjoy!!! There is no confirmation on the phone that the unlock was successfull.... just reboot your phone....
To test, just insert a sim card from a different carrier/provider. If the new sim card works then your phone is now unlocked.
I have done this to my other Note 2 N7105 originally locked to Orange.....
========================================
Do this procedure AT YOUR OWN RISK
========================================
To those who were able to unlock their phone with the method above, can you please post in the thread and let us know which phone model (N7100 or N7105) you have, Country and Network/Carrier your phone was locked to...... and if I have saved you some cash, please click the Thanks button or the Donate button on the left just below my name to buy me a can/bottle of Heinekken, Quilmes, Budweiser, Fosters, Tiger, Stella Artois, or San Miguel ...
========================================
I have mentioned in my old thread that there was a pop up message that says "Conditional call forwarding active" everytime I make a phone call using another SIm card that the phone was not able to use before unlocking.
I can confirm that this was due to my Sim card. It is a very old O2 sim card that I have used for years. I have tried that Sim card on another factory unlocked phone (Galaxy i8160 bought from P4u) and it had the same message.

Actually, you'll want to flash the "LTE" version that's meant for the Qualcomm radio equipped Note 2s. Not the Intel baseband HSPA-only GT-N7100.

Has anyone tried any AOKP based ROMs? If so, how are data speeds?
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
I've been through many Cyangenmod roms and they've been fine. Your radio should be unchanged as AOSP roms don't come with a modem so data speeds should be the same. Battery life takes a big hit though on anything not Touchwiz from personal experience.
Hey Byangmang whats your favorite ROM then? I would really like to know. Thanks
I've been through most of the popular AOSP and Touchwiz roms before settling with Jedi X as my faily driver. This rom has great battery life and solid performance, with a lot of useful customizations. Definitely recommend that one.

[Q] help with galaxy s4 not registered to network

gf reported her phone lost because it was cracked, samsung sent her a new one so now i want her old one. I put in my sim card but it says "Not register to network" im thinking maybe t-mobile blocked the phone somehow since it was reported lost but I figured there was a work around. Friend told me unlocking the phone and setting it to international radios may help but i have no idea how to do this since im new to the android community. Switching from iphone to android! So yeah, please help!

Yup, T-Mobile blocked it.. There's no legal way around it, maybe your gf calling T-Mobile to unblock it, but they'll probably charge her full price for the one they sent her.. You could try using a different carrier, but it could end up being blocked again.. You could also sell it to someone in another country, blacklist won't go past the US

international radios, gonna unlock the sim. My gfs mom is probably going out of the country so if i unlocked it, she could use it outside the US right?and if she can i take it as she'd have to use a carrier other than t-mobile to do this though?

There are services that will fix this for you. I payed 35$ for my blocked tmobile s4 to be repaired.
I did this with an HTC EVO 3D. It was locked for 2 years so I flashed the phone to a different carrier and it worked. You might have problems with different features but it is posibble to still use the phone. Find a cellular store that will flash it. They normally charge around 50 dollars, give or take.
