I am on stock root right now and want to unroot to tke the OTA firmwre update. Whats my best way to unroot. Looks like the CM team method is not applicable for firmware above LF9. Is there an updated or alternative method?
Thanks,
***EDIT..
Sorry, forgot to add that I do not want to D/L a new stock ROM, I want to stay on the current ROM I have, just unroot.
Thanks,
Answered my own question after some research.
1. Flash stock recovery with Odin or mobile odin
2. Copy update file to Extsd
3. Boot into stock recovery
4. Flash Update.zip
5. Odin CWM recovery.zip
6. Flash "root from recovery.zip" with CWM
Good to go.
Thanks,

Do all the debloated EC09 ROMs require that you already have EC09 stock? Or, that you have rooted and upgraded via the previous releases (EC03/07)? I've been following like a dozen ROM threads and I'm getting confused.
I have the Verizon model running DL17 and rooted. I am unable to get the official/built-in updater to connect, not sure if it has anything to do with being rooted already. I'm tempted just to walk into Verizon and have them do the official EC09 for me but I'd much rather have a debloated ROM courtesy of you excellent XDA developers!
So, what is the simplest way to upgrade to an EC09 ROM? Is there one which can be directly applied over DL17?
thank you for any suggestions!
Yes, it is. It's likely that the reason you can't get the OTA is due to the fact that you are debloated. So, you have a couple of options, here.
1. Go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1316769 and get DL17 Factory stock rom+radio+kernel (odex) all in one odin flash: Here [unzip to get an odin img]
You might as well get the recovery.bin and red update.zip in the first section while you are there. You will need them later.
2. Flash that in Odin, then attempt the OTA.
NOTE: Flashing this rom will wipe data, so back up anything you want to keep.
3. (AFTER THE OTA TAKES) Go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1500149
and get that ROM.
4. put that ROM, and the update.zip (If it's not already on your card) on the root of your sdcard.
5. Flash recovery bin in ODIN, reboot OFF.
6. Boot into recovery, get into cwm, flash the rom, wipe dalvik, reboot.
Option 2. If you don't wanna do that, or the OTA doesn't work, is to go to
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1502042
And get either the Heimdall full package, or Odin full package (whichever you are comfortable with) and the PIT file.
Flash whichever way you choose, Both are rooted with busybox. If you want to deodex (Must for flashing mods/themes) go through steps 4-6 above.
Hello all
Previously i've only owned HTC devices, and rooted several of them with ease. Now that i've bought the Note 2, i'm faced with a problem.
I've read around a bit, and apparently you use ODIN to flash with, through i haven't downloaded it yet. (But i've read that you can also use a normal recovery like CWM?)
Is there anything like S-ON / S-OFF (for HTC devices) for Samsung?
And my last and final question, specifically for rooting the note 2 and putting custom roms on it:
Can i download ODIN, get the CWM file posted in the Omega rom thread for example, flash it through ODIN and then just go into recovery and flash the rom? Then it'll be rooted with custom recovery, and good to go?
Hope that wasn't too many questions, i simply don't want to mess anything up with my new phone

the system is completely unlocked once you have root access, no S-off needed.
your other questions are a bit unclear but i'll try to explain.
you will need odin at least once.
you have to flash cwm or a pre-rooted custom rom packaged in a .tar file using odin first.
if you chose cwm you can then install root or a custom rom packaged in a .zip.
the easest route if you have an N7100 is to install the cwm+root tar from forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901196 using odin.
you only have to flash 1 file and it will automatically install cwm, reboot into recovery, and then root your phone.
to enter download mode(required for odin) you need to turn on your phone while holding home and volume -
took me a while to figure that out.

Hi,
I recently bought the Samsung Galaxy S3 on T-Mobile, to replace my Motorola Droid X on Verizon. Love the new phone, but miss my root capabilities - aka there's a bunch of bloat. There's an OTA not being forced for 4.1.1, but when I tried to root that, I soft bricked and got stuck in a boot loop at the pulsing Samsung. I grabbed ODIN and was able to push the stock 4.0.4 back into it and get it working again, baseband T999UVLH2, Kernel 3.0.8-925100, build IMM76D.T999UVALH2. Is there a way to root this phone, or a stock rooted ROM I could push up with ODIN?
I'm not looking to load custom ROM's, just have some of the abilities I had on my DX when it was rooted and get rid of some of the stock crap that I don't need.
I originally tried to do this with Samsung Galaxy S3 Toolkit v6.0, and soft bricked the phone. I followed the directions online, and did it as instructed, but yeah. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
All you need to root is the touch 6.0 clockwork mod recovery tar file which is available on xda as zip file and the odin version 3+ and follow instructions thats all thats needed to root, make sure you also put the superuser app inside the root of your sd card meaning connect your galaxy s3 to computer then open the root sd card and put it inside there, i believe there is a clockwordmod touch that already comes with superuser so you may not have to worry about putting superuser in root. here i'll grab links for you now. u dont checkmark anything on odin except select pda and browse for the tar file. Here is guide for your device with download links.
The clockworkmod touch recovery version is by far best and always works well with almost all roms.
I would also recomend you use liquidsmooth rom or if you want to test out the new android 4.2 cm but camera doesn't work on 4.2 cm10.1 now however it's a very nice custom rom
Btw, make sure you flash the superuser.zip file that you placed in your sd card while you are in clockwork mod recovery otherwise you wont comlete the root. to get into cwm you gotta hold volume up home button and power button at same time.

[Firmware/OTAs] T999(V) Official, Leaked & Root66 FW & OTA Updates!
Just flash the root66 udljva file and it is just pure stock prerooted. Just follow the doc's instructions and all will be good.

Thanks to both of you, I'm rooted, exactly the way I wanted to be. I couldn't get CWM to flash in stock recovery, nor could I get Root66 to flash in recovery, so I just pushed it with Odin. All I need to do now is get CWM Touch on it, and I'll be set. I'm reinstalling my root apps as we speak.
Thanks again!
Odin cf auto root is the quickest and simplest.

Flash cwm via Odin uncheck auto reboot. Then go straight to recovery then reboot. I'd wipe cache and dalvik while in there though.

[RECOVERY]TWRP 2.3.1.0 touch recovery [2012-10-15]
I currently have Stock 4.2.2 Rom - S-Off - Rooted - TWRP
How can I get to the newest Stock 4.3 (Radios, etc) ?
Is it easier to just flash stock recovery, then take the update, then flash TWRP and superuser back?
Or has someone made the update into a root-friendly flash-able zip yet?
Thanks in advance if this is a dumb question, but I wanted to ask so I get it right the first time.

Thanks for the info...
So I can just flash these with no loss of data? Or do will I need to restore data after I flash the rom?
My plan would be:
1) flash "Odexed Full ROM"
2) flash "2.10.605.1 firmware"
That should put me latest update stock right? (I might need to re-flash superuser)
I can flash all of this through TWRP?

You cannot flash the firmware in twrp.
It has to be done following the instructions in the post.
I would do firmware and then the rom.
Put the rom on your internal storage before flashing the rom.
Flash the firmware as instructed, then in recovery flash the rom, reboot.
Do not try to reboot in between, it wont work.
If you do it in that order you won't have to wipe, you will be on the latest OTA and have a rooted boot.img.
Supersu is installed already. You can prevent it from updating or flash the newest one here.
Read the OP and post#2 and follow it you should be fine.
Yes you want odex coming from full stock...
Thank you for all of the help santod040 !!
Your files and instructions worked perfectly.
I'll make sure to check in on your threads when the 4.4 update comes around.
so i downgraded from 4.1.2 to 4.1.1, i sim unlocked my phome and i installed the root thing, both with odin.
now i want to upgrade to 4.1.2, so i have this link to a 4.1.2 zip file, not the same as the other odin files which were like md5 or something that i used with PDA with odin, here is this link.

You don't have to update to 4.1.2 to update to 4.3.
If you go with a custom ROM, you will keep root. Although, if you flash stock ROM with Odin, you will lose it.
Mobile Odin can be used to flash (don't interrupt it), if you wish to go that route. No special instructions.
You can also flash using Odin (PC version), once again, don't interrupt it. You'll have to unzip and use the PDA file.
Finally, if you wanna flash a custom ROM, you can install TWRP, which you can get from GooManager on the Play Store (menu then install recovery). That will let you flash a custom ROM in recovery.
Now before you do any of that, please take the time to read and fully understand what you are doing, w/e option you choose to go with.

You can only flash the zips via recovery. Download both zip files to your PC and copy to a good quality micro SD card. Place the card in your phone and boot your phone to recovery mode. First you flash the 4.1.2 zip, then reboot to recovery again and repeat the process with the 4.3 zip.
Yes, you will lose root and you may lose your downloaded files which is why you need to do a back-up before updating. Once you have updated to 4.3, you can re-root your phone.
