Notification sound problem with stock TW Calendar - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Anyone else who uses the stock TW calendar have this problem?
The notification sound keeps changing back to "On Time". I keep setting it to a custom sound, the sound plays. I back all the way out of calendar. When I go back it's changed back to "On Time".
Anyone else.....any suggestions?.
I am using it with a calendar synced through exchange. I'm on LG8
Thanks

Having the same issue. I did some searching and seems a few others are also having the issue.

As far as I can tell the problem on occurs with custom sounds. I can set any sound that came with the phone and it holds.

Not here. It doesn't stick with any of the choices I make. It always reverts back to "On Time."

OK, you're right. I may have to install a second calendar program just for the alerts unless I can figure out a workaround.

Wish I could figure it out, but I'm no dev. Something has to he keeping the change from sticking. I had a similar issue with my E4GT on GB. If you changed the default calendar to something other than My Calendar, changing the ringer wouldn't stick.

I had a similar bug in the stock calendar on my Epic 4G. I can't believe it still isn't fixed.
So here's my work around. Copied the original "On_time.ogg file from /system/media/audio/notifications to my pc using ES file explorer. looked at all the tags...It has Samsung in the Artist, album, and comment fields, and the name "On Time" in the title field. So, I renamed it On_Time_Backup.ogg, then I converted the sound I wanted to use to ogg, renamed it On_time.ogg, placed Samsung in the comment, album, and artist fields, and On Time on the title field. Then I copied it (and the backup) back into the /system/media//notifications.
Guess what....I still can't change the notification sound in the calendar, but at least now it's the sound I want.

That's a good idea I hadn't thought of. I will try that and hope Samsung fixes it in a future update.

Thanks for the quick response, however, when I open ES file sxplorer, i do not see a "system" or "media" folder. I do see a "notifacations" folder, but that only has a few sound files that I copied there. In the settings I did select "show hidden files".
I have opened every folder in there and I have not found the one which has the ring tones/ alarms like I am looking for.

The file path is "sdcard/notifications" if that helps.
Thanks

By the way, I have this problem as well on my Galaxy Note 2 running 4.1.2 .... So frustrating. It always just ends up back on "On Time" ... the notification I pick actually works for a little while .. like maybe a day before switching back.
I have Google Calendar installed as well (seems the Sync for Google Calendar doesn't work otherwise) so I will just switch to that as the notification source ... but can't believe this issue is across multiple phones and still isn't fixed.

My stock calendar keeps reenabling its notifications. I've grabbed Google Calendar from the market and frozen the stock calendar.

Yep I have noticed this too. I will be doing the same thing.

[MOD][EDIT][SOLVED][APK]Modified stock Gallery apk without picasa sync.

Edit: APK Added below.
Hi. Im wondering if there is a modified gallery apk floating around. I really hate picasa, with a passion. Even if it isnt the 3D gallery, I dont care. When I remove the gallery and use a third party viewer app, we cant set lock screen wallpapers. Thanks!
SOLVED
Under Accounts and Sync|Google, uncheck the Sync Picasa Web Albums box and they wont show up in the Gallery.
My fav picture viewing app that I bring with me to every rom I run is QuickPic. Its super small and fast and does everything I want it to, including setting homescreen and lockscreen pics.
Check it out: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alensw.PicFolder&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5hbGVuc3cuUGljRm9sZGVyIl0.
If you're referring to the fact that your email auto checks for new mail every 30 min. you can go into your email settings and set the frequency of checking email to "Never".

Remove the stock gallery and you can not set lock screen wallpapers, even with quikpic. Which Ive used on all of my devices. Looking to remove the picasa sync option altogether which you cant do unless you remove the 3d gallery, but then you cant set lock screen wallpapers. Hence the search for a modified stock gallery.
SOLVED
I've never seen my email app use any inordinate amount of battery life as a result of it running in the background nor have I ever read a post of how someones stock email client is draining batt life. Is that whats happening to you?
And to avoid the issue of setting wallpapers with other apps, just don't remove the stock gallery app and the 3rd party apps you use should set wallpapers just fine. If you don't like the stock app, don't use it. But to remove it altogether sounds like its leading to problems.
Not sure what you mean by remove Picasa sync option altogether. Just uncheck the box and its done, no more syncing, or are you referring to removing the menu enrty/option altogether under Accounts and Sync|Google.
If so I guess I'll go now. It sounds like you want dev help from someone willing to work on code for you. Thats waaay outta my league.
Disclaimer: I'm not responsible for your phone blowing up, freezing, bootlooping, your partner leaving you or your cat dying. Make a nand.
I modified the stock Gallery apk so that I wouldnt have the "Sync Picasa" option under the accounts in "Accounts & Sync".
I really do not like having that option in there, so I solved my problem.
I have attached the Gallery apk to share if anyone else is as picky as I am.
I simply moved it to /system/app, overwriting or deleting the original, then fixed the permissions. I kept the original odex file. Rebooted and all is well.
Extract the zip/rar file and use the apk inside.
I hope some of you find this useful.

You got me. I'm not a dev just a tinkerer. Be certain that it's named correctly, no spaces, perhaps at the beginning of the file name etc.. When you copy it to /system/app it should ask you if you want to overwrite the existing file. That'll tell you it's named correctly. Unless there is something else that you're missing, it should work, as it worked for me. I wish I could do it for you, man. I simply copied the apk from my sd external and pasted it into /system/app, fixed the permissions and rebooted. After the reboot, I confirmed the gallery worked then I cleared cache and dalvik just for the heck of it. Really sorry it's not working for you as easily as it did for me.

Ringtones/Notifications!!! NIce N easy way to get them without root or anything

ok so today i was playing with my phone and you know im a type a person who like to put lots of ringtones from other phones into mine so all this time i been pushing all the audio files from different roms into my phone(adb push .../system/media/audio/ringtones ).. DONT NEEED TO DO THIS NOMORE SINCE OUR PHONE HAS AN EASY WAY TO PUT WHATEVER AUDIO FILES NOW INTO THE INTERNAL SDCARD..
SO IF YOU WANT RINTONES ON YOUR PHONE DO THE FOLLOWING!!!
1.CONNECT YOUR PHONE TO PC (ROOT IS NOT NEEDED!!! NOR CUSTOM ROM OR KERNEL)
2. GO TO YOUR INTERNAL SD AND YOU ARE GOING TO SEE 2 FOLDERS INSIDE 1 FOLDER NAMED "RINGTONES AND THE OTHER ONE NOTIFICATIONS", ) JUST DROP WHATEVER FILES YOU WANT IN THOSE FOLDERS ANY AUDIO FILES WILL SHOW ON YOUR RINGTONES AND NOTIFICATIONS NOW!! WOW HOW NICE IS THAT..
I've been able to do this since owning a G1. Files can also go in a folder called 'media' (which still works up to this day on the S3) with subfolders titled 'ringtones' 'notifications' 'alarms' and 'ui'.

Even if you not rooted you can download cm9 and extract ring tones from media folder, but you can also find most if not all of them from zedge, btw maybe the op cane from the iPhone which is a pain to get ring tones, bonus tip stock player will let you choose any song as ringtones, if you want to trim it to an specific part get ringtone maker from the play store

best ringtone maker app

I don't normally post stuff here, but when I do, it's something I find very important or useful & worthy of passing along. I recently upgraded to the Samsung Galaxy S3 (SGH-T999) only to discover that it seems to not have default means of setting my custom MP3 files as certain ringtones-- specifically, notification sounds. All I could find in the "set as" tool was options for "alarm" and (phone) "ringtone". I did however find a laborious workaround that requires moving every damned MP3 file into the "notification" folder in the phone system, then going back to use the "set as" tool to create a clock alarm, THEN going back to the system sounds menu to open the notification sounds & (finally) find the custom MP3 file I originally moved to the (you guessed it) notifications folder. Talk about laborious & time wasting! I found this free little app, MP3 Ringtone Maker, that does all that automatically-- in other words, it does indeed have the direct option of selectiing any MP3 file within its explorer to directly "set as" the file to the system notification sound for the texting/messaging sound effect, without having to go through the previously mentioned workaround. I highly recommend this to anyone who likes to take the time to create custom sounds (as I do on my PC, using Audacity) then easily set them quickly as your phone's default sound effects. Here it is: http://bit.ly/MnLqLQ:):)
I use the myxer app. It allows you to trim any mp3 file to get a specific part of a song and when you're done, it allows you to either save it as a ringtone or a notification. It will save the file in the respective folder as well. Been using it since my evo 4g days and it hasn't failed me yet

in hindsight (the best kind)
In hindsight, I probably should have titled my thread "A good ringtone Set-As'er"-- I realize there are great little custom ringtone makers out there-- I just happen to diddle a lot on my PC for audio stuff (since that's where the bulk of my MP3 collection is anyway) & use an audio editor (Audacity) to create custom stuff to send to my phone (instead of draining the battery on my phone to accomplish the same). I just happened to find the "MP3 Ringtone Maker" I mentioned above to seem to be the easiest app to browse my phone's storage for my selected MP3 stuff I transferred to it, and quickly "set as" them into (for example) the notification sound that the default Android "set as" tool doesn't seem to include.
where i can download this app ?
thankyou

Task650 Customization??

Is it possible to customize the phone app in Task650? I'd like the stock phone app from 4.1.1 where the display is

Is this possible?? Otherwise, I like the Task650 ROM (finally loaded).

I am not actually responding to this question but to the question you posted about using an mp3 file as your ringtone. I have one that I created years ago with an app called Ringroid and it let me capture part of an mp3 and set it as a ringtone. After every complete wipe, I drag that file from my external sd to my internal sd card and I can select it as my ringtone (it does not have the same extension, nor does it appear on the list as the other ringtones). I can, however, using ES file explorer select it as my ringtone (it lists all of my music, including the clip I use as my ringtone).
Thanks. I did that and it worked. Now on to the dialer issue.
Suggestions?

Stock 4.1.1 dialer will be touchwiz, which won't work on aokp roms, at least without some heavy framework modding. Even then I'm not sure it's possible. Best to look at dialer alternatives in the play store if you don't like the one in Task's rom.
Thank you. I've taken a look and nothing really jumps out.

Forgive me if i dont understand right but you say the stock ringtones and notifications are there in system/media? If not what is there? Do you have a noise happening when notification or call comes in? If so just change them by either using music player and selcting use as ringtone, etc or just add your own files with sounds or music to the same place in system/media where the stock ones are. Make sure they are the right file type. Then you might see the option under settings tab. If not then save stock sounds to a folder on your sd card and the ones left that you just put there should now be your new sounds. Let me know if this worked please. Good luck

How many ogg files are showing under system/media/? Just one? If so adding another may give you an option in settings. If not try nova launcher and go to settings again and options may show. If not look for app that converts files to other kinds of files and the oggs might be able to be turned to another format that makes it show up in music player. If not try flashing newer nightly update and see if it fixes itself in the next build. Let me know
