Touchwiz camera replacement app - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

I was looking for a camera app with hardware shutter buttons on the t-mobile gs3 forums, but couldn't find any. I started looking at the international version and found this. It should work on touchwiz based roms. It's a nice camera replacement app based on the touchwiz camera. Everything seems to be working so far. It has a couple useful features such as using the volume and lock keys as hardware shutter buttons. Follow the link below to see the rest of the features. I got this off of the I9300 forums and did not contribute to the development of this app whatsoever.
Issues:
- 1080p video recording, 720p works fine
- when using lock button to take photos, power menu comes up

Last time I tried using it, it had issues with video recording (force closes and such).

I see that now. The camera seems to work flawlessly though. I haven't had any force closes thus far except when recording in 1080p. I hope to see a camera app like this for our phone in the near future.

1080p normal works but not fine or superfine. 720p works fine. Camera works well. I went back to stock or one of the playstore ones. Once they get things sorted out for our phone I'll switch. The concept is awesome.

hey guys, can somebody help with installing this to Free GS3 RC6?
the procedure with renaming samsuns.apk does not work. Simply because there is no samsung.apk in this release.

[Q] camera with vol controled zoom

I'm looking for a camera apk which incorporates volume rocker controlled zooming while capturing video. I had it in a previous rom i flashed though this was the ONLY thing I miss about that rom. I think it was a virtuous rom but not sure. If anyone could please tell me which builds have this camera functionality and if you can share the apk so i can try adding it to my personal installation of miui i'd be so happy.
why not just tear the camera.apk out of the rom and try it in yours...? Thats what I'd do... just do a backup and if it doesnt play nice reflash the backup. You wont have lost anything...
That's fine. How do I grab the apk?
Edit: nvm, figured out how. still can't get a camera apk which has the zoom while recording feature to work though.

Just retested and if I understand correctly, you want to be able to zoom in/out while recording video? Well on unity 1.31 which is where the camera app that I uploaded for you came from, volume controlled zoom works.
Even if you did find a Camera.apk, if your rom doesnt support its features such as, Volume Button Zoom in and Out, then it still wont allow you to use that specific feature. The Camera.apk built into the Rom is the most functional with all features working, otherwise it wouldnt be there. You can try but I doubt the Rom will allow it to force that feature considering it isnt the Camera.apk that came with that specific Rom. Sorry I could be wrong but i've been through this issue in another thread, so im trying to save you time.
+Rep if I helped!

Shortcut to record video?

Hi everyone..
Is it possible to set a shortcut in the home screen to start the camera app for recording video?
Whenever I start the stock camera app, it default to still photo.

I used to have an app installed called SuperFastCam, which started recording video instantly once you launched it. current version seem to be recording video upside down according to the latest reviews. you could give that a try.
SuperFastCam works fine for me on HTC Incredible.
Good tip "mb_3000".
Thanks!
Spoke too soon...
SuperFastCam crapped out on me too. It worked fine at first but after a reboot, it would start but then immediately FC. I tried several re-installs. No good.
Oh well. I'm still looking for an option. I'll pass it on if I find something.

Finally found the (almost) perfect camera app

Ive been trying to find a "perfect" camera app for my DInc2 with a few key features.
*hardware volume button shutter option
*touch screen focus
*adjustable ISO
*clicking thumbnail goes to HTC Gallery app
Didn't think that would be so hard, right? But it always seemed that they came close, but were always missing one feature or another.
So, after many rounds of both paid and free apps I finally found Ucam
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ucamera.ucam&hl=en
Has all the above features, plus more. It also has a stunner of a built in editing package, with tons of presets and discrete controls for brightness, saturation, contrast, etc., *BUT* it downsamples the image to like 1280x800 or something and I can't figure out how to make not do that.
But that's just gravy, considering it already fulfilled my wish list, so hopefully they will fix the resolution problem with the editor. Nice GUI too. And it makes animated GIFs, amongst other oddities. Did I mention the incredible sharing setup?
Plus, its FREE.
They also just came out with a tablet version.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ucamera.ucamtablet
Forums are here but a lot is in Chinese

I may be late to the party and everyone is already using this, but I think it's worth sharing
I'm using nitsuj's TSMBullet and it has a great camera! The touch to focus, thumbnail brings to gallery, and it has manual, panorama, hdr, and burst mode. There isn't a volume shutter however. One of the best camera's i've used

I have to agree. The bullet camera is very sharp.

This app is awesome! Thanks for the tip.
Btw, to change the image size. Be in camera mode and scroll through the menu at the top of the screen, you should see a square with some sizes in it, press it and select the size you want

What ROM?
Anyone know if this works with the CM9 Kang ROM by areovan? This CM9 ROM is almost perfect. Only 2 issues that I'm running into:
1. Must run "su; killall drmserver" in the terminal after reboot in order to get Google Play to download/update apps
2. Flash on any camera app that I've tried (stock, angel, zoom FX) doesn't work.
I don't really care if the FFC or camcorder works, mainly need a camera app with flash as I travel a lot (business) and love to take pics at a moments notice with my phone.
Any ideas?
I've tried a ton of camera apps and this is by far my favorite after just a few hours of use. Thanks for the tip!

You can turn on the torch before taking the picture and that should help.

they just updated the app to 1.1.7 today, and it fixed a couple of repeatable crashes I was having and had reported...these guys are super responsive! They also said they would consider an option to not downrez the image in editing mode since many smartphones are powerful enough to edit a 8mp image (slowly) these days
This is a great camera app. Thanks for the heads up. Does it take the full 8mp wide pics like sense roms do? It looks like the pic fills the entire screen.

4.4 Camera Issues *HELP*

Hello and thanks for your time! I have the SGH-I317 and I am having problems with my camera when I flash a AOSP ROM. The 4.4 KitKat camera is not working for me, but when I flash back to a TouchWiz ROM everything is fine. Here are the apps and the problems associated with them:
-SnapChat: Taking pictures works fine, but when recording video it will only record a second or two
-Instagram: Pictures are fine, but the video is distorted and zoomed in
-Vine: The app doesn't even recognize that i have a video camera
-When trying to take a video to attach to a mms message it give me this: (SEE ATTACHED) (I've tried Hangouts and the stock messaging)
And the crazy thing is, when i open the video camera through the camera app, it works fine.
ALSO, When any app that needs access to the camera/video camera is open, there is a horrible screeching sound that comes out of the headset speaker, I will record a video so you can hear what I am talking about. Also notice how the video is fine besides the screeching when opening through the camera app.

@bbasketballer75
Wrong section sir.
You need to delete this and post in questions and answers thread. This section is for developers to post roms..NOT for questions
Thanks
Also..its a known bug for those apps for 4.4 roms. No fix right now.

Yes, the sure, simple solution is to use a stock rom. 100% compatible with those time bandit apps.
THis is exactly why I am on a 4.3 ROM (Ditto Note) most of the time. The stock camera in the kitkat roms doesn't work smoothly for me.

If only that were a solution for me. (using an older custom rom)
I seem to have this issue on any rom BESIDES the stock rom. Its buggy across the mentioned apps, and it never works on the MMS "capture video" setting. This isn't a big deal as it only aggravates my OCD, but my bank recently installed some photo detection software on their mobile app and I can no longer deposit checks due to the buggy nature of the camera.
If you, or anyone else here knows of a rom that is FULLY compatible with the GN2 camera, can you please post it here? Im willing to go back in time.
I wish that developers would fully work out the bugs in X.3 before moving on to X.4, but i appreciate their hard work.

CAMERA FIX!! no focus or flash issue what so ever; With this camera apk

HI everybody,
K this camera apk was pulled from the MIUI rom port while doing extensive testing of the rom it's self just to see how the rom did. While doing this I noted with the camera all issues we have on the cm and nexus based roms are non existent on the MIUI camera, but the camera does have issues.
1. It has two issues one when it takes a photo's with the rear facing camera it saves it upside down for some reason
2. second issue i found is when you go to the front facing camera it glitches in the transition and you half to close it out and restart and then it'll be on the front facing camera and you half to do the same to get back to the rear facing camera NOTE: the front facing camera does not flip the image
Now initially I thought this might of been the miui rom its self so I grabbed the camera apk and jumped to the Nexus rom and IT WORKS. I currently use this camera as my daily driver despite its issues and even though I have purchased the Snap Camera, I just prefer the MIUI camera...
I would note I ran a search on the camera apk files name and found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/find-7/development/mod-oppocamera-settings-timer-scene-t3003030 I tried the zips they have and they don't seem to work on our phone.
Also I did not know who to credit for this. I'm sorry for that; if some one know's who pm me or comment. Thanks
personally i find 'BlueCam' delivers better photos than the MIUI, the only features that don't work is manual focus but the auto focus does a fine job and it has torch mode to take care of night photos which gets over the flash problem, its also free on the app store.

true that, I'm thinking it should be very possible for an app to utilize an existing camera app to take the picture and then parse it, if background elements are an issue a crop tool can be built it. I'll look into it after this coming week and see if i can come up with something. Won't be perfect but it'll be better than nothing

Regarding barcode scanning... it is not as seemless as barcode scanner or google goggles, but I had good success with QR droid which can use an existing picture to read a barcode.

That's what I'm getting at, if its possible to read from an image then it should be possible to have your camera take a snap shot, save it has an ordinary image and then have an app interpret it. At least in theory, I don't know how feasable it is yet
I use this camera app from f-droid app store its free and open source and also works well with flash
https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdfilter=camera&fdid=com.simplemobiletools.camera
Tried it with latest lineage os by ggow. Focus is fast and pictures are coming up great. There is no manual controls but this app is better than stock or Google camera app in my opinion anyway. Camera button also works to activate this app and to take snaps with. Developer also has gallery app in f-droid if you want to give it a spin.

The camera from F-droid is very limited and it does not work with flash. It works in a sense that flash can be permanently turned on and used as a light. The oppo camera however seems to work correctly. The only problem I encountered is switching between front and rear camera. Seems like usable camera to use when you need flash support. Otherwise open camera app is good and full featured app.

I find oppo camera good but pictures for not known reason turn out upside down - I really don't fancy switching them back manually.
Another good app is camera HDR. As mentioned in CyanogenMod description it just work well.
thanks. really nice. flash light photos works fine.
