This has happened more than 5 time this week and it makes me have to turn the phone off and reinsert the sim card. Before the Wifi would still work but now when I try go on Facebook (which used to work) it says error.. Could it be that I deleted something? Or do I have to factory reset?
Details on ROM, kernel?

Stock Rom Stock Kernel Lol
What I do is remove the sim or turn on/off airplane or reboot.
I'll try the airplane on and off next time.
Clicked the thanks button aswell!

I had to do a factory reset on my phone today from the recovery screen. When it rebooted it said applying update from Verizon. The only thing I can think of is on the FR it reverted to 2.2 then upgraded on loading. I couldnt bypass this though. Maybe if someone can figure out how to do a FR and bypass the auto update we would be back on 2.2. Any thoughts on this?
Can you please post in the correct sections, this is not android development.
Thread moved.
Maybe unactivate your phone first. Then factory reset? No data, no update

It does it right as I turn it on. Even before it gives me the activate prompt. It shows the HTC boot logo then says updating software from Verizon Wireless. Then it boots up.
GB forcefed
Someone posted that he was able to boot into hboot and clear cashe and dav_,
And the prompting quit and he used AlphaRevX with success.
I think if you did a hard reset then set airplane mode it might work.
I don't know if AlphaRevX works on a phone before it's activated or with data off, or in airplane mode.
Good luck.
I just got my device 2 days ago i was having singal issues so i took it to verizon they exchanged it..When they exchanged it it came with 2.2.1 and i had to pull sd card and put it in airplane mode till i got home and rooted it and have just installed miui
I pulled the sd card and the sim card. Went into the HBoot and did a reset. It still pulled the update so Im not really sure what its doing when it says updating software.
What if you did a hard reset with the battery cover off since that is essentially the antenna?
It was off. Pulled SD card and SIM. I hit factory reset from the HBOOT white screen and then it boots to the HTC bootlogo. And a black screen that shows the OTA logo going to the phone is up and says updating software. Before the phones even booted.
I was meaning like get a different phone activated and do it while it's not activated

Another idea that may or may not be easy for people is going somewhere that isn't on the Verizon network. I know that the basement of my work doesn't have a signal and when I did a factory reset about a month ago it let my phone boot and skip the activation since it didn't get a signal.
It does the update before it even boots and prompts me to activate.

What hboot version does it show?
Have you tried to clear cash in hboot?
I think if you had a standby phone to swich service to you could get by with getting s-off.
Just make sure the standby phone keeps your data plan, or you might get shoved into a teared plan...
Running a stick galaxy nexus on 4.2.2. Had it in airplane mode in an area without service and when I went to take it out, the option to turn airplane mode off was greyed out. After rebooting, it says that its back to normal, but I can't connect to the network, gps, etc. Cleared cache and did a factory reset, but the problem is the same.
Anything else I should try or any other suggestions?
Thanks
Pull battery
Wait a few minutes
Put in battery
Cross your fingers
Boot
I had and sometime have this problem. Usually I power down fully and then boot instead of rebooting the phone. Works for me.
faxed from my nexus
Never was able to get it to work. Flashed radios...switched to CM. Gave up and ended up upgrading to a S4

Hey everyone.
Since updating to 4.3 OTA (was previously 4.1 rooted) I have had no need to even use my wifi, until now. When I slide the switch to turn it on it moves over (but stays grey) for about 8 seconds then moves back to the left. I have tried a soft reset and a hard reset. What can I do to fix this?
Please help!

You said you've done a hard reset. When this happens, at reboot and set-up, one of the first tasks you'll encounter is Wi-Fi set up. Did you set up a Wi-Fi access at this time? Usually when this is done, it stays on by default, unless you specifically turn it off.

I don't recall setting up Wi-Fi access. I was having hardware problems (power button issue) and was stuck in a bootloop because of it. I'm backing up all my stuff and will do another hard reset.
Ok so I just got around to backing everything up to hard reset. When the wifi setup screen comes up it doesn't scan, it doesn't do anything. I also found out that my Bluetooth does not work as well...
I have a sprint note 4 running kitkat.
rooted some tweaks installed. anyway phone has bee getting unstable lately and blutetooth for calling is dead. streaming music works but anytime I try to use bluetooth for calls it immediately disconnect phone bluetooth when I make or recieve a call and then reconnect when I end the call (WTF right??)
anyway finally broke down and figured factor data wipe time. reinstall clean.
so I backup all my stuff take screenies of anything I think I will need to remember etc.. move all data from internal to external storage etc..
I go into settings and click reset device.
it reboots says warranty bit recovery set and then nothing. black screen. intermittantly I can see the open chested android graphic with "install system update" flash on the screen for a split second. this repeats forever.
after 10 minutes of this I pull the battery try to start same thing.
I tried holding vol up home power for a manual hard reset
exact same thing. I seem to be able to boot into download mode but not recovery mode.
suggestions?
EDIT :
I see in another thread you updated to 5.1.1.
yeah that is what I ended up doing except I said screw it and just went to lollipop. working on setting it up now (it booted fine)
trying to install the stripped rooted rom but I keep getting an error in recovery. footer wrong signature failure.
Ah... No twrp. ?
Yep. ID10T error did not follow instructions. All is working now.
