Cases - Galaxy S III Accessories

I had originally bought a cheap case that Verizon had offered when I purchased my phone as well as a screen protector. Mostly because I could not find an otterbox defender anywhere. I ended ultimately finding one a couple hours from my house and went and picked them up. I also did not like the screen protector at all so I got a zagg hd and applied it and removed the one that was glued in the otterbox, as well as the glue. I have to say that is much better. There have been many complaints about the zagg install process which I found easy as long as I took my time and didn't rush. I was curious what everyone else's experience was and what they were using to protect their phones if anything

To use screen protector or not???

So I'm debating on whether or not I should use a screen protector on my S3. With the new gorilla glass is it necessary?
What are all of you doing??

I think it's personal preference I bought a screen protector and I am using mine. It depends how well you take care of your phone. Get a cheap one off of amazon or eBay and see if you like it
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
i take care of my phones so i will not be using a protector. I never have. I took my X2 to the extremes once i activated my s3 and it was difficult to actually scratch the screen.
hoping this holds up equally well. I did by a sleeve for the phone though.
At first I didn't plan on using one, but I did end up trying a wet apply protector and I'm liking it ok. The Gorilla glass seems pretty resilient, and there are videos on youtube of people taking keys, razors, knives etc to the screen with no scratches but the last thing you want is a scratched up display.
Come on guys, there has been threads about this

I have a My Touch 4G Slide. I hate the long name.
I have been using it for over a year now and it has a few very slight scratches. It has Gorilla Glass.
Now about the videos on YouTube: They all use metal that is not so sharp. I would like to see how the glass stands up to a single grain of sand, dirt or rock fragment.
I'm a mechanic and work in a rough environment. I get dirt and grease on it all the time but I don't purposely scratch it.
My 4G was a replacement for the G2 I had for almost a year before and did use a Zagg and it got dirty within a month and the free replacements for life cost $6 to ship them.
I'll have my S3 this week and don't plan to use a protector. I don't think that a screen protector can save it from a direct hit. Since the majority of the surface is non screen, I am considering a case to spread out the impact damage if I drop it, which is more likely to break the screen.
My opinion is non scientific and is from limited experience.
The Verizon guy installed one for me and its working fine. I wasn't gonna put one on but I do like it.

I think there are many debait about this, it's up to you, and as said many times gorilla glass is not future proof it will get scratched easily, forget about keys and coins, just get some sand and try it out.
There has been some discussion on this. There are also some threads about individual screen protectors. Look here.

Yea I know what you mean many of my friend's didn't know I actually had a screen protector on since it looks real clear and real good one of my friend just got his GN2 today I just came from his house he envy my screen protector so he's thinking about trying it out. Idk but me I dont like to keep switching screen protectors constantly so thats why im trying this ghost armor see how long it will last me. The cheap sprint SP lasted only a week it was full of scratches from the s-pen and it started to annoy me when I lookbst my screen to view the web or videos I would see all these scratches on the SP so I just decided to try ghost.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2
I bought a few cheap ones online, but with my gel case, the edges of the screen protector are lifting up (from squeezing the case).
Do some of the other brands hold their edges better? Or do some wrap around the side?
I guess I could trim them, but I know I won't like the look after.

FIX: Otterbox Silicone Stretching

I've had an Otterbox Defender for my S3 now for quite awhile. The silicone over the plastic shell always seems to stretch over time causing a loose fit. I know you can contact customer support and have a new case sent to you from Otterbox, but I figured there had to be something to tighten the silicone up. After browsing the web, I heard that if you boil the silicone for a few minutes in boiling water, it will tighten it up. I figured I'd give it a try and it actually did work, the case now fits like it did when it was new.
How long did you boil it? I stopped using my defender because of this issue
Boiled it for about 2 minutes. If your silicone is stretched too far though it won't go 100% back to normal. It will help though that's for sure!
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I went with the body glove tough suit because I don't like how the otter box distorts the screen with that rainbow effect. No stretching yet but if I have that issue I'll use your idea.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
It should do the trick for your case as well. Hopefully it won't stretch like the otterbox to begin with.

Done this also. But immersed only for a minute. Then went to a cup full of cold water.
Dont use tongs when getting the case off the water as it will ruin the shape of the case. As the case is sensitive when its really hot.

HAHA BUDDY!!!! Same thing here! I love my BodyGlove ToughSuit!!! Gray/White Version Here! I got sick and tired of the OtterBox Warranty claims, however this is the first device I've had the stretching issue with an OtterBox...
I also had the same issues, solved them (temporary) by heating up the rubber in a microwave. Well, the rubber still started to stretch again after some time, I contacted Otterbox and received a brand new Otterbox Defender which still looks very good. I´ve removed the screen protector though
Ive just stopped using my defender because of this reason, and I won't buy another one again because of it.......... thought they were supposed to be the best.......
Well, unfortunately there is hardly a similar case available which 1) offers some protection and 2) looks somehow decent and fancy enough the be used on a daily basis.
There are some similar chinese cases available which also offer a hard plastic shell and some rubber around...but look in my oppinion rather ugly than a regular Otterbox Defender.
Have a look at this one : http://www.amazon.de/yuba-RoboCase-...1367166500&sr=8-2&keywords=galaxy+s3+survivor
Since the support was kind enough to me, though I bought my case used in another board and didn´t receive a invoice, I may still consider to use other Otterbox Cases with other devices.
The stretching isn't the only flaw with these cases. The clips that hold the two plastic portions together also seem to break after awhile. Guess you can't complain too much when they send another free though.

screen protector (zagg or ...)

I'm trying to do some research for a screen protection, back in a days I bought my INCIPIO case that came w/ screen protector and it was sort of settled I figured no need to get another one since this one came w/ it, well after a while (ab)using it I think it's time))
so I'm thinking to get ZAGG, but I want to get some of other people's opinion on that or maybe better option out there..
please advise
I just got my XO Skins screen protector, absolutely the best, it is crystal clear, you don't even realize a screen protector is there.
It also does not affect the feel of the screen, glides across easily.
I have a ZAGG. Meh. If they didn't replace it at the mall kiosk for $5 everytime I wanted I'd be less happy with it. You can definitely tell it's there.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Get a GhostArmour screen protector, a thousand times better then the Zagg.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I used Zagg on my HTC Incredible and it protected it just fine, but it wasn't as clear and smooth as some of the other brands mentioned here. If you choose to go with Zagg though, make sure you buy it online and avoid paying $20+ at some chain retailers.
The lifetime warranty is what keeps me coming back though.

Zagg has a disgusting orange peel effect and its a ***** to clean, since it is so rubbery you need water to effectively clean it. That's been my experience and the reason I switched to ghost armor.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I'm still not clear on which screen protector to get... amazon has xo skin and few others but i couldn't find GhostArmour there. I prefer to get a hard screen protector ( i think it's better so I can reapply it if needed ), clear is a must (no tint) and w/ warranty.
I got the zagg for my nexus and I'm not too pleased with it. You can see it and my finger doesn't glide across smoothly. currently looking for another one that's more clear
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Sorry to hear that, I want to try something else other than zagg, a lot of people complains(
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I have the XO Skins and have to say its really good. I have had it replaced a few times because the oils build up and they are pretty good about replacements. It used to be better as they wouldn't require you to purchase it and then they will refund it but such is life. I would defiantly recommend it.

Warning about Zagg (and screen protectors in general) on Galaxy S3

Removed my zagg protector today and noticed the glue from the shield completely took off the oleophobic coating. Now the glass isn't as smooth and attracts fingerprints even more. Just a warning to those putting on a screen protector, you may actually be damaging the phone.

I can't remember where i saw it but a few months ago i saw the kit online to replace the glass screen coating....oleo whatever.
Maybe find something here http://www.globaldirectparts.com/Samsung-Galaxy-S-III-SGH-i747-AT-T-s/18091.htm
and how to take it apart here http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/search/samsung+galaxy+s3
I use self laminating sheets from Office Max. I Cut to fit and apply. Easy to remove too. They last maybe two weeks, but they do give some protection to the screen and it's super inexpensive since you get so many sheets to a box. They look just fine. I don't think they cling hard enough to remove any coating but I haven't really looked for that.

I took mine off, too, without seeing any negative effects on the screen. I got a tempered glass screen protector and now won't ever use anything else. It feels just like the original glass and protects the phone at the same time.
I like the Zagg stuff. I've had them on all my phones and never had an issue. I have the HD on my GS3 now and had it replaced a couple times, but nothing left on the screen.
ZAGG was pretty good for the iPhones.
Thanks for the heads up on this one. Phew.

Probably will do the same for my GS3. :highfive:
