[Q] Battery drain during Navigation - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I've noticed since updating to JB, that the battery is draining during Navigation quicker than my 1A car charger than charge it.
Has anyone else noticed this?

Mines draining faster also.. Not good on long trip...

I've had to start turning my data connection off after getting navigation directions, or I'll be out of battery by the time I get where I'm going

If you install a Kernel that enables fast-charge, then your car charger should be able to keep up. At least it does for me.

I do realize that everyone is probably going nuts playing with their new units and draining the battery life mad but I figured we start a thread to get general battery usage times from owners. We could also come up with a format that's acceptable, I'll start with this but we can change it as we go.

try SETCPU since you are rooted
make a profile for screenoff (i use 594-128)
that way when your phone sleeps the processor slows way down and doesnt use the battery as much
also if you meant when you sleep.....whenever you can.....use wi-fi and turn APN data off. That way the phone isnt searching for a cell tower constantly and using battery.
Hope this helps....PM questions

FOR 100% NO DRAIN ISSUE
ralnee said:
Okay.. I finally have some answers. I registered my phone on the Samsung site, and got into a live chat with a rep. I explained to the rep (as best as I could) that the battery usage was not updating once it reached 100%, without a reboot. After going back and forth (did you try A, yes I did, did you try B, yes I did...), she finally gave the the number of their "dedicated Galaxy S phones voice support team at 1-877-EZ2GALAXY (1-877-392-4252)".
I called the dedicated team and was finally told that this is a known HANDSET ISSUE, and to replace the phone.
I'm performing a full backup using Titanium Backup as I type this, then I'm going to do a NANDROID recovery (I think) and then reset the phone to factory settings. Then I'll replace the phone at the tmobile store I purchased it from.

might as well make this one a sticky so EVERYONE please use only 1 topic to keep track of the battery life and tips & trick

Sure, and actually any battery app widget will show the battery level. The Nexus S stops charging at about 96%, so when you would unlpug the charger after it says 'charged', it immediately drops to 95-96%. I ended up buying a couple extra OEM batteries and a wall charger for them so I could pop in 100% charged batteries. Plus it made it so I never have to waste time charging my phone. When the battery dies, I swap batteries. Since this is the same 'family' of phones, I am real curious if the SGS2 does this also? Someone please confirm. Thanks!

I've read about this too, I thought they adjusted it on the software side though (so 100% displayed wasn't really 100% but actually more like the 96-97% of the actual charge on the battery, hence the calibration. I might be wrong though.

Yeah i know the devs do very well about implimenting fast charge into there kernels but what this app does is tell u if you getting wakelocks fast charge from the charger ive noticed that this phone takes much longer to charge then normal even on the stock 2100 mAh battery(i could be wrong on the 2100) but this app will help me eliminate wakelock charger issues that causes battery to take longer to charge
i hope this makes sense and im not going Nutz

That would depend on what you think is ''much longer''? Fast Charge only works when plugged on something else than the wall outlet. It basically disables the UMS to do so.
Yup, other dude is right you shouldnt need it for a wall outlet. Only off a computer. Try trickster mod. Works perfect for me.
I'll try the trickster mod and see how that goes ... Thanks for the tip. Bwolf 6hrs plus for charging on a stock and even this 4000mAh battery is long I can see 3-4 hr maybe 5hr it just abnormally longer even when plugged to the outlet but thanks guys for the help and further knowledge
The type and length of USB cable used will have a significant impact on how long it takes to charge your phone.

Make a nandroid backup of your rom before flashing anything.
Then download the official stock Tmobile M919 Samsung Galaxy S4 Touchwiz Jellybean 4.2.2 Odin flash firmware
and flash it with Odin.

Before installing any apps check out the phone for a day or so to see
if you still have the battery issue.
If not, then your problem is that one or more of the apps you installed
are not behaving well with the battery for one reason or another.
If you still get serious high battery drain after the battery is fully charged
then in my guesstimation it's hardware related and if your phone is still
under warranty I would advise you to return it for an exchange.
Good luck!
Would I be able to at least use Google maps and nav or would that negate the results? As I need that for work
Also one of the screen shots is a top apps for battery usage and it shows system and system processes as the top power drains.

Have you considered that your battery is just bad? It could be as simple as swapping out a new battery.
I guess it's possible but it's on the monitor the discharge rate which would be how much power the phone is drawing I thought
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk
Judging from your pics, nothing looks out of order. Granted, GPS and navigation use a lot of battery, mainly when navigating with Google Maps you have to use Data, prolly the biggest battery drainer in your situation. I recommend buying Sygic (best offline map software imo) or Navigon, another good one. And use that to use your GPS. That way you eliminate the data being constantly sent back and forth. Also, decrease your brightness if possible. When in the car i can keep mine set to 50 percent and be okay. Another thing, when using the car charger, if possible, download Ktoonsez's kernel and use Fast Charge option. It really helps increase the charge output. My car charger outputs at ~500mA when not fast charging, fast charge enabled, outputs at 1000mA a 100 percent increase
I actually figured it out. I use Cerberus and an update or something was killing my battery. I uninstalled it and all is well. Sucks though. I liked having the peace of mind knowing if someone stole my phone I could track it.

I would also try to use Greenify, once you try it you're gonna ask yourself how did you ever use your phone without it!

[Q] N900T Extremely Slow to Charge- Tips?

Hello,
I bought a gently used N900T a few days ago. The device is awesome and works perfectly, except for one thing. Charging the phone with the Samsung charging cable+ac adapter takes longer than forever. It charges at a rate of approximately 8-9% per hour.
A few notes:
Device on, device off, it doesn't matter. It charges at the same slow rate.
The battery itself, once it charges, holds that charge very well.
The slow charging happened both when I was on the stock rom and on my current Slim Rom.
I have ordered a new charger and a new battery. If the slow charging persists with these new accessories, am I doomed? Is the slow charging a known issue for the Note 3? Besides the new equipment, does anyone have any advice on how to solve this?
Thanks so much!

As weird as this sounds, I tried the charger in a different outlet in my home and it works a lot better. The battery charges quite fast from any level to about 96%, then starts crawling again to 97, 98 and stops at 98. I opened battery calibration, which shows the battery at 96% and 4337mv, which is the same mv level as 100% normally if memory serves me correctly. So I'm thinking the battery is "full", but for some reason won't go to 100% without a fight. Perhaps if I clear my cache+dalvik cache? Any other suggestions?

[Q] Battery life is so bad, it won't charge while in use

I am running BlueLightning-20140410-jflte as my ROM, with the 3.4.82-ChronicKermel-KK4.4-AOSP-JFLTE-v3.1 kernel.
I have my governor set to ondemand, with my low clock speed set to 189MHz and the highest at 918MHz.
With the sound set to one click past off, with Wifi, Mobile Data and GPS turned off, with the screen on the dimmest settings, my battery STILL drains when I have the phone plugged in, if I am actively using an app or playing a game.
I did not find a Fast Charge option on this ROM, and I had to uninstall Xposed Framework, because it was preventing several of my apps and games from running.
I can't think of a reason that the battery would still be draining this quickly, using the settings that I described.
Is there something I am doing wrong, or something I missed along the way somewhere?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

To what are you plugged while charging? If you are plugged to a wall-outlet, make sure you are using the Samsung wall adapter (or at least one that can push 1.9A). I've found out that it isn't usually the cable that causes slow charging, but the wall adapter.
Also, download an app from the Play Store called Charging Current Lite to see what your charging rate is. While 1900mA (1.9A) is optimal, anything above 600-700mA should be enough to charge while in use. Much lower than that, you will only maintain what charge level you have or slowly drain power.

It's usually the wall adapter, but it is not the one that came with my phone. I got mine off of Craigslist, and it didn't come with a charger. I've been using the same one I used on my old LG Optimus L9. I never considered that.
Figured that plugging it directly into my computer via USB would give a weaker charge, but never thought it could be the wall charger, itself.
I'll run those tests and report back. Thanks!
