HTC Desire Touch Focus/Touch to focus - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there,
I was wondering if ICS MIUI for HTC desire supports touch to focus for camera, or if there is a camera app for that. The ICS is built from the Sandvold base. I have been using ICS MIUI for a while now, and have been searching / waiting for this function. Please excuse me if this has already been asked or have been implemented.
Would be glad to get a Tip or pointed in the right direction. The camera quality also appears to be lower, correct me if I am wrong, it just appears to me that way.
I would glad to have more information pointed to me to read up on, so far I cannot post in the development thread either, so if someone can just point out to me some clue that would be great.
Thank you.

I'm riding in a similar boat. A quick Google search got me here. I'm running the Sandvold 15.1 built on my Desire and was wondering about touch focus as well. I'm curious about the same regarding my friends Desire Z that I rooted recently for him.

Isn't there a fix for multi-touch axis flipping

Now Google maps 5 is out and rotation dosent work, I was wondering about it and remembered that a website had said a member of cyanogen had fixed the axis flipping on the nexus I don't know if this was true, any idea ???

I seem to also remember something about this...?
Jesus, Google says that his beloved N1 doesn't support it and you want a fix. Here+s a fix : sell the Desire and get a phone with the full multitouch capable panel.
A colleague of mine has a Desire with a rooted ROM (a Sense 2 one) and the rotation works.
So yes, there is a fix.
I hope that HTC will officially release a (Sense 2) upgrade for the Desire, and that will contain the fix, I don't feel like rooting.
O rly.
FYI Sense 2 is the version that shipped with Desire. If you mean the newer Sense, that's on the Desire HD, that's Sense 3.
Which ROM is that again ? And please let him install http://www.appbrain.com/app/multitouch-visualizer-2/org.metalev.multitouch.visualizer2 and make a vid of the "fix".

Maybe Google maps thinks the phone supports multitouch as its a dhd rom and activates the option to use rotate. Rotate should still work...but because of the dual touch 'bug' it will get it wrong some of the time.
Yeah, I remember reading about a fix included in the core, but it was disabled. How would I enable it?
Can't we get the apk which is getting installed on the DHD?
I've read about this after some issues with Nova, which I guess is why it isn't supported anyway. The screen itself is not multi-touch and is apparently dubbed "double-touch" and the axis switching is hardware related, however there is a setting buried somewhere in the Android SDK that was designed to only be enabled for a certain device. Enabling it on the Desire, however, was supposed to alleviate some of the issues with axis-switching, although not a total fix. It was mentioned that CM had this setting enabled on their ROMs for Desire, but whether that is still the case I cannot say. This is just from memory, I'll have to do a bit more digging to refresh my memory.
EDIT: Asked around on the CM IRC and that particular 'feature' was indeed pulled, however was reinstated a few days ago, so probably only on the nightlies for the moment.
EDIT 2: Flashed a CM nightly and it doesn't appear to have made matters any better
Yes the multitouch is indeed enabled in maps on dhd roms, but the problem is not fixed. You can easily see, when your cross the axis with your fingers, and it definately still doesn't work well.
Yes, this issue is very irritating when playing games like SliceIt as well.
The touchscreen hardware is only capable of determining the rectanlge containing the 2 touched points.
If the desire screen is capable of detecting two fingers as long as they don't cross on the y and x axis, two finger rotation should be more than possible on google maps just as long as you keep the rotation no larger that 90 degrees between the y and x axis and even then it should only cause a "hickup" in the rotation so although it won't be great, if active, it should be ok for use!
The two touches is not what bothers me it is the axis flipping that's annoying I will try to flash a nightly and will see what happens.

Camera app - old vs ics new

Hi guys
I originally asked this in the Q&A section a week ago, but I wasn't sure if it belong here in the apps section instead. Since I didn't get any replies, I'm thinking maybe I should have posted it here to begin with. I hope someone in this section might be able to help.
If I'm not supposed to put this in two areas, I apologize. I'm not too forum saavy; just looking for help for my issue.
Thanks a lot guys
--- Original post ---
Hi everyone! This is my first post here so I hope I'm doing this right. I'm not sure if this should be here in Q&A or in the App section but here goes.
I really love my Epic 4G. Up until a couple of weeks ago, I was still running Dk28 with midNIGHT rom 3.1. Then I finally switched over to the wonderful CM9 Beta1. I am loving it so far, but there's one thing that bothers me. The camera.
One of the things I used to use on the camera very frequently was the panorama/wide shot function. I really hate the sweep panorama of the ICS camera because with the crafts I make, it's just horrible and it's always distorted because sweeping and me don't get along. The camera that was on my leaked Froyo had the feature where I would click the first picture, and while moving to the side a green box would guide me and then automatically take the next shot when it lined up, then I'd move again and it would take the next shot. It would then put the images together for me.
I really need that feature back. Is there a way that I can install that camera app back onto my phone in addition to the updated ICS camera? I really like the smoothness and speed of the ICS camera for normal picture taking.
I can pull the camera.apk from my original install, but as I said, I don't want to overwrite the ICS one, which I fear because they have the same name and I don't know if renaming it will make the difference. I want both. If someone could guide me in getting both on my phone, that would be great. I'm sure there must be a way, but I don't know how to do it. I've read a lot on these boards so I figure if anyone knows how to help, the great minds here do!
I hope I've explained this ok. If I'm not clear, please let me know. Thanks much!
p.s. I've tried a number of camera apps from Play. I don't like the wide shot ones where it has a ghost image for you to line it up manually either, so please don't suggest that.
I'd love to see the old TW camera on CM9. The ported TW apps thread a couple posts down mentions this, but i haven't seen anyone post a successfully working version yet.
Hopefully someone who knows what they're doing can figure it out for us. *crosses fingers*
Wishlist? Anyone?
Lol....I was running the peoples rom last week and was wondering the opposite. If there was a way to put the ics camera on that tw rom. That's an awesome rom and has the tw camera (obviously), but maybe just flash that and try it for a while?
On a side note.....Not sure if its just me, or does does the ics camera take much better (normal) pictures, even when zooming in quite a bit? I've been wondering if something was done in ics to better utilize the camera hardware.

I find the ICS camera to be really nice for just normal pics. Definitely faster and does seem to be on the clearer side. But I'm really needing that old auto panorama/wide shot feature. (non sweeping motion or ghost line up).

This seems to be the most commonly askes question in all the ICS and JB threads. If you search through the Desire HD development forums (fora???) you'll see evry single ROM with ICS and JB has camera issues of one kind or another. Some of them have a semi-working camera, some can record video without sound, but up til now, none at all work completely. There is also an issue as to which camera chip is in your phone, different regions/countries/networks seem to have different cameras, and I haven't yet seen anyone post a definitive guide to what is where, and what works with each ROM. All I can suggest is read all the posts in the ICS dev threads, make a backup of your current ROM and flash away until you find the one that works best for you. A lot of people are hopeful that the newer Jellybean ROMS will be fully functional shortly, but for now, if a working camera is a must, stick to Gingerbread and use an ICS theme with a launcher like ADW or GO.

[Q] A few n00b questions about S3 and CyanogenMod (C9)

Hi guys.
Just a few questions if you don't mind. I searched but couldn't find specific answers for these.
I've got an S3 (carrier: Rogers), rooted it, installed CWM Recovery and installed CyanogenMod 9 (stable).
Got a few issues:
I don't see a stock Camera app on C9, I installed a third party app (Camera Zoom) to get the camera going. Is there a built-in Camera app for C9??, not sure why I couldn't find one
The video playback capability of the S3 to play a video while in another app (the "picture in picture" kind of thing), that doesn't seem to work with the stock C9 video/picture app ("Gallery"), any idea if there is a way to restore this feature? It worked in the Video Player app before I rooted and installed C9, I tried it in VLC and it's not possible.
Also does anyone recommend a specific battery stat re-setter for the S3? I tried Battery Calibration but haven't noticed any difference. A few friends suggested that once I was rooted and installed Cyanogen and all the carrier/Samsung bloatware was cleared out, I'd notice an improvement in battery life, but nothing so far.
Thanks for any advice/help.
LOL, just had to turn off my phone and turned it back on and the Phone/Dialer icon is gone now.
Jesus, is CyanogenMod this glitchy usually?

May be a bad flash. Why are you using cm9 instead of cm10?

Cm10 doesn't have a "stable" release yet, I kind of thought Cm9 might work better.
Think its fine to try Cm10?

CM10 is awesome and way better that CM9 I think. It runs faster and is just overall a better ROM. I would definitely flash it over.
thanks, i'll try it out tonight.

[Q] JB rom with working camera and video?

Ok, i already anticipate replies based on "use the damn search", ...please do us all a favor and don't clutter the thread with that kind of posts, try to max your posts number somewhere else :silly:
Anyhow, atm i have tried to install few JB roms on my HTC Desire GSM, the latest i have installed is JellyNow(btw: battery friendly), but still the same problems remain, the damn camera works but not so stable, often results in soft restart and when watching video as well(sometimes)
Is there a stable JB rom with camera and video working?
Please reply with posts where you can speak from your own experience, everything else is without arguments.
Thank you all in advance

Simple answer is NO.
There are Nikez and VJ's CM10.1, but the camera and video are choppy and tearing.

not JB but close enuff

yup, i have stumbled upon this one a week or two ago, but i have read somewhere that its development has come to STOP, apparently lack of developers in their team....i am not sure if this is correct information.
Although i might give it a go, to see how it goes...all i need is daily driver, i am not that active user, because JellyNow can hold 2days, but it isn't usable any more, sometimes i cant answer a phone-call, because when ringing screen doesn't respond as it should, just showing incoming call, then it needs up to 5sec to start reacting....wierd.
Anyhow i am still in a hunt for a fine balanced rom....the problem is i am now addicted to JB stuff, beacuse it almost has it all i need within OS, so need for installing additional apps is minimum.
Tnx
I'm using jelly time and the camera and video work perfectly fine...I've been using this ROM for a good 3 months now...I will just add though that for some reason I can't find the camera now to use it lol but I think I disabled it cuz I never use it and would always accidentally open it....
I'm using jelly time R29,
I hope this helps you!
