Am I Missing Something Here? - Sony Xperia S, Acro S, Ion

So I have a MicroHDMI cable plugged into my phone and into my TV. Nothing. Works fine on my dads phone (different carrier/model) but not on mine. Am I missing a setting somewhere to make it play my movies out of the HDMI port?

Nope that should be it if its plugged directly in. Make sure.the TV is on that input and you might have to make sure liveware is installed so it can automatically start the TV mode. I used mine tonight without issue directly from the phone and using the ion dock.
Sent from my LT22i using Tapatalk 2

Just did a force shutdown, to ensure the phone was dumping everything and getting a true reboot...and still, nothing.
Uninstalled the Liveware update, tried. Nothing. Reinstalled the update, tried. Nothing. I will exchange the cable tomorrow and hope that is the issue. I'm pretty confident that with this phone being new, it couldn't possible be....
And then again...Maybe It can only be used with the dock to toggle HDMI out?? Can anyone else confirm or deny this?
Anyways, I'll keep you posted.
(For anyone who doesn't know. Force shut down is Power+Vol. Up. Wait for first vibrate and continue to hold. Then it will vibrate 3 times. Then you can let go of the buttons.)

Could you share a pic of the ion in the dock plz?

I have used mine with a cable (no dock) and it works great.

I used a cheap hdmi cable I found on Amazon and it worked on the first try. A couple weeks later I got my smart dock and couldn't connect. I had to remove and reattach the cable a few times, re-dock the phone a few times, and cycle through the inputs before it worked. Unfortunately, that means I don't know which one fixed it. Not sure that it matters, but it worked great with my Sony TV and I had issues with my Vizio, both are older models.

The dock is really nice and holds the ion firmly in place. The USB ports on it will not charge other devices though and the USB and HDMI ports only seem to work when the dock is plugged in to power.

I too got a cheap cable from amazon. Its worked with a cheap dynex, Samsung, and multiple Sony TVs for me. Haven't had it not work yet except when I didn't have the smart dock power plugged in.

I'm gonna officially rule out the cable on my next break. we have several TV's here at work. I'm gonna try here as well and see what happens. My 3 possible issues are: Phone, Cable, TV. I hope like hell it's not a bad port on the phone.
Sidenote: That dock is nice! If in fact my issue is not related to my phone, I may very well buy one of those docks.

SOLVED!!! Bad cable. Not sure why it worked with my dad's phone tho. IDK.
For those interested, even tho I had to swap it for one that worked... This cable is 10 bucks at walmart. Its made by a company called ONN. Seems legit. haha

Galaxy Charger

When plugged in with the charger that came with the phone at Tmobile I notice that the cable connecting to USB port is not perfectly straight when connected and phone laying flat on a table. If I look at the cable connecting to the Micro USB phone port I see it is slightly sloping. The slope is slight but definitely it is not 100% straight. Has anyone else noticed this? I ask only because the phone is brand new and costs a pretty penny. Thanks
Yes very slight slope I have had this phone since October 14th with zero problems with charger and port for USB so nothing to worry about mate

I remember my old Vibrant having the same problem (its not an issue though).

I had a similar issue i guess....
The micro usb jack does not slide into the phone smoothly. feels like its pushing up against something and i need to tilt the cable to get it in.
I just use a different cable and it works great, no resistance.
Anyone else have this?

Nandroid and warranty.

I am thinking of changing my phone via warranty. Will I still be able to use my nandroid backups on my new glide? USB charging getting worse.

I would say yes but...you never know i havent tried but maybe someome has

I'd like an update if possible if you are able to get it warrantied? I thought once anything was modified that was it? And won't they argue that the crappy micro-B usb failing is the user's fault, rather than the fact it's an unreliable unresiliant usb port? *I miss the mini-b usb*
If its same carrier then of course same device, I don't see why it would be an issue, just nadroid it before you replace it with an older backup.
I went back to an osimood nandroid backup and guess what my charging is working perfectly! Does this make any sense? Guess my phone does not like ICS. No need to send it in under warranty now.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I927R using xda app-developers app
I'd keep a close watch on it none the less so as to not begin experiencing the problem again only for it to occur outside of the warranty.
#1 Are you using the real Samsung charger? I've stopped using other chargers in an effort to prevent excessive wear/damage to my ports. They fit the most flush and smoothly it seems in comparison to half a dozen other chargers and usb cables I have used.
#2 Are you sure it wasn't just a bad flash? Did a reflash? did a wipe and then flash? Just curious but I'd give that a shot. Also checksum the ICS image you did use to be sure it wasn't a bad download?

Sorry to threadjack, but every Samsung charger/cable I've ever used has barely held itself in the port, loose and floppy like an old hooker's va-jay-jay. (inb4urmomlol)
Now Nokia, those guys can make a damn microusb cable! plug into the charging port, I can pick up my phone and swing it around by the cable if I wanted. takes just a bit of effort to pull the cable off the port...
And now back to your regularly scheduled banter...

Since you mention it, I can't argue. My nokia ports were pretty rock solid, but I still have my old Nokia USB cable, and while so far all of my samsung ports and cables seem pretty solid/not loose, the nokia fits in (short of making any dirty references :laugh pretty snug and too snug for comfort, which is why I mentioned sticking to the original ones in hopes of less force and wear.
I understand loose but now it works with osimood where it didn't before the same exact cables. Seems that there is something that changes with ICS and charging.

Now... That's why I avoid using Samsung's USB cable, they're too much troubles. I have two of them shorting itself out, so the Wacom Bamboo USB cable gets used instead - no problems. I wonder why Samsung makes the most unreliable USB cable, hmm?
Sent from my SGH-I927 using xda app-developers app
USB cables! my wife and I both have Glides and with in 3 to 4 months both of the usb cables broke! I mean the end that plugs into the phone just disintegrated! I use a usb cable that came from a palm one phone, its twice as long and works wonderfully! although be very careful with the port in the phone! was caught in a light rain, and a single drop happen to hit perfectly on the charging port! that ended the usb functionality! still charged but could not use on a pc. I had already rooted the phone! I called att and they sent me a new one on warranty. I got lucky I guess, all I did was delete all the apps the used root and used root explorer to delete superuser.apk. rebooted the phone and sent it in!
I would say if you need to send it in, just flash the leaked ICS update and that will un-root and also restore a stock recovery. there's also a stock 2.3.5 and the stock recovery floating in the forum here somewhere!
Yup... -___- Mine just shorted out, from positive to negative - at least Samsung's charger itself is fault-proof (didn't let out the magic smoke when that occurred).

[Q] Charging Cable

The wall UNIT is fine but the OEM cable doesnt work anymore.
I am using a old BLACKBERRY microUSB cable with it now and I noticed it charges a bit slower than the OEM.
Anyone have any suggestions on amazon or something for cables that are like close to OEM?
Thanks guys!
Why not address this with the company that sold you the phone?

Kindle replacement Micro USB Cable will get the job done perfect fit.
If you happen to own a kindle with worn out cable give Amazon a call and they will give you discount on it.

I had this problem took mine back to att gave me a new cord and ordered me a new battery dont know why but hey...got a spare...
Guys this is just s standard urn cable with a micro usb end. I actually have a thick BlackBerry cable plugged into the wall plug that came with my phone and everything is good.
Although I do remember the skyrocket, where people had to be really specific on what they used to charge their phones because if they didn't they would actually have a charging wake lock, but this doesn't seem to be the case on this phone!

[Q] Xperia S touchscreen bugs while charging

Hello,
Following problem occurring now with i think every ROM i've used!
Charging normally with my official Sony USB cable into a wall charger of 2A.
And when it's charging, the touchscreen just doesn't respond as it should be, i make more mistakes, and inaccurate typing then when im not charging.
And the behavior of long pressing buttons will completely freak the phone out.
Anyone know a solution, or recognize the symptoms?
I appreciate you reading this, and perhaps answering on this.
Thx!
This is normally to do with the wall plug itself. When I put in a cheap copy charger it does the same. I press the T button and end up getting a Y for example. I have a wall extension plug which has usb outputs on there. When I use a cable on that to charge my phone it does the exact same. I tested with my nexus 7 charger and works fine with sony cable and asus cable. Best to probably get the original Sony wall plug.

The issue is really annoying, and i dont think martinko23 and i are the only one who are noticing it.
change the plug socket you're plugging into. it's bad earthing somewhere
while charging plug the hdmi into your tv and see if the problem still happens

This happened to mine as well. I have taken it apart and tightened the micro usb socket twice now. Works for a while but the overall design is the problem. This has always been a problem with micro usb and is why proprietary sockets are far superior to micro usb despite all the blather I hear about how convenient micro usb is. You can convert proprietary ports when needed and they dont fail like this.
My other two Android devices are like two years and both use micro USB, and they still work fine. It might be the design of the Nexus 7 itself.

I had this problem with my old Samsung Captivate. It would get so bad the cable would actually fall out. Have you tried a new cable? I thought my phone was damaged but I ordered a new OEM cable because I damaged the original and it also happened to fix the charging and loose connection issues. After a while, it happened again so I just ordered a few more cables on eBay. The reason I chose OEM cables was because the Captivate had a sliding door for the USB cable that often wouldn't accommodate a standard connector. After that experience, I try to stick with OEM cables when possible, just to be safe.
Sent from my VS980 4G using XDA Free mobile app
Mine is different. The micro USB would perfectly fit into the port. I would feel and hear a confident strong click and the movement is minimal. However, it would not sometimes charge and have to play with the cable while at the port.
Funny... I though I was alone 'cause no one would write about it..
I got 3 cables, all with slight different behaviors but generally loose, one of them actually falls off.
Patience is highly and thoroughly tested when I want to transfer data to my nexus.
Mine is loose. I have to slip a piece of paper in with the cable to pack it. Otherwise it won't charge.
Mine is loose but that's my own doing lol but using a different usb mini seems to work
