I'm not a huge fan of the stock JB camera app, is it possible for me to install the stock Touchwiz or Sense camera app on my CM10 SGSIII?
I'd prefer the added functionality.

I reccomend a quick search. It's not possible. The cameras you requested require specefic frameworks that don't play well with others. My advice is to download/purchase an app that has some of the features you're looking for.

Ah, that's a shame. I'll try to find a good replacement camera app in that case.
If anyone has any recommendations I'd be glad to hear them!
I love camera zoom fx

I agree the stock android camera sucks. Video recording doesn't even work on half the ROMs and focus is slower than watching grass grow.

Hey guys I was wondering if its possible to port the camera from stock ROM to aosp. I'm a huge camera user and camera quality for me is important. I did notice that the aosp camera really sucks compared to stock ROM. So is it possible?
Impossible.
yes it is possible but no one is going to do it because it requires other files in conjunction with the camera apk. and even more work to get it running on aosp roms
I was also looking for a way to do this but already knew it was unlikely.

I would agree with OP that the stock camera on TW is the best.
It's fast and seems to be more clear.
However, I don't think that devs are willing to put out extra time on porting something so difficult.
I am running cm10 nightlies on my sgs3 and was wondering what app is a good replacement to aosp camera app? It doesn't take as good of photos as the touchwiz camera on stock, the light balance is too dark and flash gives it a weird hue. I love cm10 but need a better camera app and from what I gather, touchwiz camera apk only works with touchwiz ROMs. Suggestions?

Yes, the AOSP camera sucks big time and the interface is super, extra, ugly and outdated.
you can try lgcamera

For the majority of people, myself included, the stock Camera is just fine for PointAndShoot. I've even purchased CameraZoom when it was on sale, but prefer the simplicity of the default camera. "Best Shot", "Smile Shot", and the other TouchWiz gimmicks are almost never used.
Well I actually don't use any of the gimmick features of the stock touch with camera app, the thing that I liked about it was how it handled low light situations and getting the true color. I will try LG camera.
* I also purchased camera zoom on sale and am currently trying it out.
Any more suggestions? I don't need gimmicks and I don't need photo editing, I just need a very good basic photo taking ability

The best one I've used (and I've tried a bunch!) is the camera app that was included with the Serenity rom....which i think is just the ported Note II app. If you can get your hands on that, try it!
When I was on CM10 I used ProCapture. It lacks HDR which is a big deal for me, but it's pretty good apart from that. The TouchWiz camera is one of the main reasons I switched back.
i have cm10 and i use camera zoom fx it work just fine for me
Yeah...back to touchwiz myself... I am sorry but cyanogen mod just can't equal the picture quality of stock camera... I love aosp...but I have found a good compromise... use a touchwiz rom, use a good aosp launcher and keyboard, and messaging and gallery.... and you get to keep your good camera! Though on another note I am somewhat disappointed with the aosp keyboard now....the Swype is cool but just isn't add accurate as I would like... actual Swype I never have to correct... stock 4.2 keyboard is always getting my words wrong...

wow.
I find the AOSP camera interface great.
are you suggesting the tw camera app is more modern and less ugly interface, because it doesnt look that way here.
For the past week I had aokp on my phone, I was trying to make it work, and had used the camera a dozen or so times to take photos of the weather. I was pretty happy with it initially.
But then yesterday the camera started crashing and not working, a reboot made it work for exactly one photo so not good enough, so I switched back to neatrom (TW). Now by comparison this camera seems a lot worse in functionality. Is probably 70% configurable options missing, seems slower, so the menu responds slower and the focus is pretty bad in comparison it takes a while to focus and then doesnt stay in focus. On top of this I see can only have limited shortcuts at once meaning all the options are never accessible at same time, have to choose which shortcuts. I think the s3 TW camera app is poor, and am currently looking for AOSP camera to put on TW (but seems noone has bothered except chaos?) but would AOSP camera app still be unstable on a TW rom.
I like camera JB+... It does have a similar UI to the aosp camera though (I think I'm one of the few people who love the aosp camera UI).

I was just wondering if there is any work in progress to port the stock camera to Jelly Bean? I guess few people miss the sense per se but the camera app was really great!
no actually sense camera is only compatible with its kernel driver so , thats not possible!!
Here's a good replacement for stock camera if you miss all effects and all

I bought it while It's on sale. There's a free version too.

I didn't realize that Sense is so far away from the original Android. Used to think it was just a launcher, a different app for setings and some widgets...
Been using TouchWiz since I got my phone (FreeGS3), now switched to LiquidSmooth (4.2.1), and it's awesome...
BUT, the photo quality on TW was MUCH better. So much that I think I'll switch back.
UNLESS anyone knows ... is there a camera app for AOSP that can match the quality of the TW camera?
Has anyone else noticed the inferior photos? Blurrier, less colorful, no HDR ...
And most idiotic of all, the whole "viewfinder" rotates from landscape to portrait ... which makes NO sense.
On a side note ... I wish someone would create a camera app like the HTC Evo 4G LTE where there are TWO buttons on the screen, one for photos, and one for video ... so that you don't have to switch apps!
Samsung's tw camera is the best...I have downloaded camera zoom fx and still the two camera is better by far...I wish there was an apk for the the tw camera on my aosp...all other cameras are slow

Porting the TW camera to AOSP is possible. The TW dependencies just have to be removed. I remember an old friend of mine posted a how to in the OG Epic forums... Might take a look and see if it's something I can poke into

I believe photosphere only works on 4.1.x AOSP based ROMs and not 4.2.x AOSP ROMs...

I have it working on my phone running LiquidSmooth. I have the zip that I used but cannot find the xda thread that I got it from. I'm a little hesitant on posting it, because it's not my work, but I also want to help.
Here is a link to the file: 4CamNex2.zip
This is the stock camera for the Nexus. All you have to do is flash it in your Recovery (I used TWRP). It has a working photosphere, but is very limited in the settings you can change. For instance, I cannot choose the storage location or HDR or any of the fancy stuff that comes with the LiquidSmooth Rom. You can see my screenshots I just took to see what it looks like.
What I have done to mitigate these limitations is that I kept the LiquidSmooth camera. When I want to use Photosphere (which isn't too often), I use the Nexus Camera, and all other pictures are taken with the Stock LiquidSmooth camera. When I do things like set wallpaper, I have to choose my gallery (two cameras = two galleries), but it's not too much of an issue for me.
Hope this helps, and if anyone can find the original thread with this camera, let me know and I'll link it (and remove my dropbox link). I want to give props to whoever created it.
So are the pics quality better with this camera mod compared to whats in liquid smooth ??

There is nothing at the Playstore which even comes close to the stock Jellybean Touchwiz camera.
Trying to compare any camera/camcorder apps at the playstore to the stock JB/TW camera is like
trying to compare apples to oranges, it cannot be done.
All the cameras/camcorders at the playstore are very much inferior to the stock JB/TW camera.
Good luck finding one.

I have to agree with Misterjunky on this. For a stock camera, it's one of the best around. I don't think a camera app on the Play store can beat it. Even Google Edition S4 camera can't touch this one.:good:

CameraZoomFX is a decent alternative.
Go in the Playstore and search up ''Focal'' It is a camera app that Cyanogen mod created. Its better than the other camera apps in the Playstore.
