Cheap 64GB microSD card? - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm looking for a cheap 64GB micro SD card in the UK. Does anyone know any good deals? This is the cheapest I've found:
http://www.play.com/Mobiles/Mobile/...urce=0&searchtype=allproducts&urlrefer=search
It's incredibly expensive though. Thanks for any help

The Play only supports up to 32 gb from what I have read so I would not recommend a 64 GB card unless you see someone else with a Play who has one and says it works.

I asked in another thread and got told it worked?
Sent from my R800i using xda app-developers app

Well then, it probably does. Sorry for misleading you, it's just that the specs where ever I read them say "up to 32 gb". But if Play owners said it works it probably does.

I thought the same thing as you.

Proof HERE and HERE.

I have been using a class 6 sandisk 64gb sdcard for a few months. You can use a 64gb you just have to format it to fat32.

You can do it from your phone, but I did it from my laptop. Put the MicroSD card in the SD adapter and put it in my laptop, went to my computer and right clicked on it and selected "Format"
Then I set the cluster size to "default", format to "Fat32". hit enter and waited. Been using it with zerio issues and runs fast...

Thanks, how would i do it from my phone?

ou can do it from Recovery... go to mount&storage, you will see "Format SD card" at the bottom.... I would recommend doing this on your phone as it takes a lot longer to format on your phone then form your PC. MAKE SURE TO BACKUP YOUR SDCARD FIRST. To play it safe do not cut and paste your phones sd card contents.. it will tkae longer but copy them... that way if something happens like power goes out or someone pulls the card out, you can still copy over the original files. I cut and pasted once on my old 32gb card... and my laptop shut off, lost a ton of files i could never get back... it sucked.

This one is cheaper: http://www.amazon.co.uk/SanDisk-64G...3?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1344513391&sr=1-3-catcorr

12gb instead of 16

Bought my 2nd gs3 and it has 12gb of storage and not 16. Should i return?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
No.. that's how much they all have out of 16GB that you can use.
Sent from my SGH-T999
It's formatted to be less, and about 1-2 GB is reserved for the system.
But phone says total storage is 12. Kinda dumb

San disk is just fine. You can get one on amazon for under 20. If you do a lot of podcasting I would suggest getting the apps2sd hack in development.

san disk is fine. dont even bother with the premium lines, as they are more geared towards cameras. Also I read a few reviews on them in regards to using them for android phones (sgs3 was part of test) and they stated they saw no real optimal improvement compared to the average black san disk micro sds you can buy..
Find one on ebay, preferably in the US and not China, Ive seen 32gb go for like $12 free shipping, sometimes cheaper!

Class 10 micro SD cards?

Would a class 4 Micro SD card perform better than a class 10 micro sd card on an android phone?
Also, i made a second partition with link2sd on my SD card. How would i transfer that over onto a new SD card?
Thanks

1 year ago, class 10 cards performed worse in random access (mostly used for apps and games), but apparently the newer class 10 cards perform just as well or even better than lower class cards. So I would suggest getting a SanDisk class 10 card, they are currently considered being one of the best.
Yeah, i ordered a class 10 high speed SanDisk SDXC card and was just wondering. Thanks for that answer though. Quite helpful. Just need an answer to the second question now

Hey KindaUndisputed,
If you're interested in seeing which SD card will perform better for you, you should test it with CrystalDiskMark 3. It's really easy to use and you'll mostly be interested in looking at the small byte ranged 4K random read/write speeds. This is important for running ROMs from SD or games and things.
I've noticed that my SanDisk 32GB Class 4 and Samsung 32GB Class 10 are pretty similar, so it's kind of just the luck of it I guess. SanDisk is usually pretty reliable though.
Thanks for that response, will probably try that, I although I think I'll be sticking with the 64GB anyways as I need the extra storage.

Oh yeah absolutely. Just if you wanted to test the speeds of some other cards in comparison to the Mobile Ultra. I'd have to think that that 64GB card would have superior speeds in every category though.
Yeah, thanks again
Sent from my R800i using xda app-developers app
All of this talk about class 10 cards having bad random access speeds was valid a year ago, not any more. Times change and with it so does technology. A decent class 10 card nowadays doesn't have these problems.

I will have a look, i can't seem to find any class 4 SD's at 64GB, only 6, 10 but i have had problems with a 32GB SD class 6 card before.
that's the UK as i'm from the united kingdom, it probably be worth going for a class 10? ultra or mobile ultra? is there any difference?

I'm from the UK, that's the one (the first one) I bought, from Amazon as well. It's quite cheap really. I don't know about drastic changes in speed but I don't think there are many cheaper 64GB micro SD cards anyways?

Why we cant use 64GB sdcard?

Hey, im wondering why at the Xplay specs is "Space: 8GB - 32GB max".. 32 and 64GB cards are same seriously, i mean not by spave but how its big. Why we cant use 64GB sdcards, or we can? Im thinking about buying it but no idea if it will work.

If the card is formatted as FAT32, you shouldn't have any problems with it.
The 32GB cards are SDHC, 64GB+ cards are SDXC. It's a different format so 32GB and 64GB cards are not the same. The Xperia Play officially supports SDHC so that is why the specs say that it is up to 32GB. Saying that a lot of SDHC devices (especially later ones) are compatible with the SDXC format. I haven't tried it myself but I've seen plenty of other people saying that 64GB cards are working with their Xperia Play so you should be fine.

At that rate, you might as well wait for the Note III. It's technology, a few months after you buy it, something newer and cooler is out. There's already rumor threads forming about a new Exynos 5 phone.
But yeah, more expandable memory is better. Especially if you want to keep FLAC files on your phone.
But still can't install apps on the cards and these games are now larger than 2 gig.
